Ragnaros is the final boss in Molten Core, the original 40-man dungeon crawl-style raid instance. He drops all of the "Tier 2" armor set leggings, as well as several other highly-sought items.
There is some disagreement about the approach to this boss, largely brought about by discrepancies in gear, but, generally speaking, you will need a well-balanced, fairly well-geared raid group, and they will need a respectable amount of Fire resistance.

In my experience, precision Sons of Flame control yields a kill. Make sure everyone understands the strategy for that.
The sons are basic level 60 elites. Immune to fire but nothing else. Slowing, freezing, fear, horror, silence, and taunt effects all work. Hunter ice traps, frost nova, and challenging shout are all key to any Son control.

The Molten Core lies at the very bottom of Blackrock Depths. It is the heart of Blackrock Mountain and the exact spot where, long ago in a desperate bid to turn the tide of the dwarven civil war, Emperor Thaurissan summoned the elemental Firelord, Ragnaros, into the world. Though the fire lord is incapable of straying far from the blazing Core, it is believed that his elemental minions command the Dark Iron dwarves, who are in the midst of creating armies out of living stone. The burning lake where Ragnaros lies sleeping acts as a rift connecting to the plane of fire, allowing the malicious elementals to pass through. Chief among Ragnaros' agents is Majordomo Executus - for this cunning elemental is the only one capable of calling the Firelord from his slumber.

His loot table consists of..
All class Tier 2 Leggings (Transcedance/priest, Bloodfang/rogue, ten storms/shammy, netherwind/mage, nemesis/warlock, wrath/warrior, stormrage/druid, dragonstalker/hunter, judgement/paladin)...
and other goodies..
Not a hard boss to kill really.. for beginning guilds, tank should have 315 fire resistance, but its a tank and spank fight.

Melee Players should have Min 200 FR and range should have 100-150 FR. I do say min as doing it well but you could have less and still take him down.

As a hunter, it is actually best if you wear as much DPS gear as possible. FR gear is hardly needed as hunters take the fewest AoE fire balls and also have (for the most part) the most HP of the ranged damage dealing classes. Well, except for warlocks. Anyway, if you can push the DPS charts you will be much more useful in Rag attempts/kills and let the other classes worry about surviving. We have feign death.

It's very important (especially for newer guilds) to dps as much as possible.
Assigned healers need to keep the dps alive at all costs, and all ranged dps should begin their attacks from very start of the fight and never let up, as range cannot gain aggro with a melee target within Rag's reach.
The sons do drain mana, so if you're a class that can kite the sons, do it. Priests fear, mages blink, etc.
A good goal is to have Rag at 30% before he submerges for the first time.

Rag can be a very tough fight if your strat consists of certain elements. Chances are if you are a beginning guild you will die a few times.
Our strategy has been to have a challenging shout rotation for all the warriors with FR when the sons come up, and watch for the knockback, other than that its a piece of cake.

With the release of the 2.0 patch, I believe Rag has become much easier. Not that he was nerfed, but that the classes were over all largely improved. In personal experience with my own guild, just last weekend we were only able to get Rag to about 40% before we wiped. That was the best we could do at the time. Only one week later, nearly all the same gear, but brand new talents, we managed to get him to 10% before the sons were even summoned, the sons were killed within one minute, and Rag fell as though he were no more difficult than Golemagg. These new talents are definitely a help, so if your guild hasn't attempted Rag since the patch, and you've been trying to kill him for weeks, I suggest you give it a go ASAP. You may be surprised at the difference and improvement. =D

We used to use the aoe taunt tactic when the sons came in for the warriors to control the sons and then aoe them. But indeed since the 2.0 patch we don't need it. He just goes down before sons....

Ragnaros is the first real "gear check" in endgame raiding (except maybe Bloodlord Mandokir and having tank with a lot of defense). Downing him is a significant achievement for any guild mostly because it shows that they are willing and able to farm for fire resist gear and greater fire protection potions en masse.

Yes, he is the 1st target to really bring down in a raiding guild, requiring collective effort and perseverance. One could say that Raggy makes or breaks raiding guilds. He provides training for the basic skills to face BWL and AQ40, and further down the line Naxxramas.

The Lords of Vengence, Damage Inc. , and another guild downed Rag on Blade's Edge. What sucked was this it dropped TWO I repeat TWO Leggings of the Ten Storms, I mean, after all that, it drops Shammy gear! WHY!?
That is all, we spanked him with only five people dying because they ran into the lava like idiots. -.-

Ragnaros is the first true epic fight old players had to deal with. While going throught the whole Molten Core dungeon was challenging for many of us and is piece of cake now... Ragnaros still has this little something that makes him different.
We were young and naive, and this fight truely felt epic as we had to have 40 players playing 110% to kill him. The pride of downing him for the first time is something you keep in mind for a long time !
I don't feel like burning crusade could match this fight (as well as several others from the old word). Most likely because we have grown and don't look at the game the same way, but also because now we are running 25 mans raids.
Easier to play, but less fun in the end I think.
Anyway if you have never been in Molten Core, gather up 10-15 people and go ahead ;) You will be surprised that you can still wipe there despite the instance being tuned for level 60 blue geared players ;)

A few days ago, we were running old raids just for fun. We were 2 mages, a priest and my pally tank.
Ragnaros is summoned automatically after defeat of Majordomo Executus (he appears after all other bosses are dead). I didn't know about the knockbacks (didn't play vanilla xD). I felt so useless in the fight...
Also Executus was hillarious...we got his adds oom as we were unable to kill them before they heal themselves :D
Whole MC is soloable now by a class that can take a few hits - if you know what to do. Like firedemon said. You just have to be in raid group to enter.
PS: confirmation code 'dotmm'...locks are coming back!

Ragnaros is the lord and ruler of all fire elements,so, a NPC there summons him and then Ragnaros execute him with a single attack
To fight ragnaros it will be good tanks have hight fire resistance cause of every single attack he deals FIRE damage
Ragnaros have a spell that summons NPCs called son of ragnaros and you have to killed them quickly or maybe the entire raid go wrong.Be carefull of "Wrath of Ragnaros" he knocks players back and if they threw to the lava they will die especially TANKS.
Good luck and now go fight him

I want to add that, if you kill Majordomo Executus, and the party won't be able to move any further because someone have to go (or some other reason) and the instance gets reset (All the trash gets reset, not the bosses). You have to kill Majordomo again, to make him able to summon Ragnaros.

on him. It's very fun to see Ragnaros become not but a tiny boss. My raid laughed quite hard, seeing him shrink, though, I would not suggest it. Our raid leader got a little ticked, as Ragnaros becomes hard to hit if you shrink him. He is too far into the middle of the lava, and getting close for hitting him causes you damage. It still looks hillarious though.

Just soloed him and the rest of MC as a prot paladin.
Pic
.
Like you saw it took ~70 minutes getting the kill, my weapon broke at ~60% which made the fight a lot harder(less SoW/JoL proccs). So bring another 1-2 weapons for a lot easier and faster kill.
I had 413 FR with FR aura and used SoW/JoL and Sacred up constantly. I was hoping I would be able to jump out of Wrath of Ragnaros's knockback range every ~25sec, but my initial feeling was right, he doesn't use it unless someone is in melee range. This made the fight a lot more trickier.
I placed myself
here
so I would always get thrown in the lava and therefor avoid the fall damage. It is very important to stay close to the inner circle's lava, since the room for where you hit the floor in the lava is somewhat limited(and ofcourse lag here = baaaad if anyone remembers the lava jump in BRM :P).
I recommend saving Divine Shield for when you get both Hand of Ragnaros and Wrath of Ragnaros at the same time, I f.x. died once from getting shot out of melee range from Hand of Ragnaros and then when I was running back into my position I got Wrath of Ragnaros'd and didn't land in lava(since I wasn't yet near the inner circle lava). I used JoL/ShoR/HotR every 9s(waiting for J instead of doing 6s abilities first).
When the Sons come, go to 969 rotation but depending on mana you might want to skip consecrate. Your goal is to keep 1-2 adds alive and be at full mana ASAP. Then you heal up to full health and kill the remaining adds and rinse and repeat.
Note: You can also FoL between his swings if you're lacking health in between Son Phases.
In the end was merely done to prove I could and due to lack of challenges :)

Extremely time consuming to solo on a prot paladin but nothing particularly difficult about him. Keep sacred shield up at all times, JoW/Seal of wisdom. Wore roughly 330 FR with aura, make sure you bring backup weapons, he will easily break one of them over the course of the fight. Pop all of your cds immediately after sons are down, should have avenging wrath up after every sons phase.

I also managed to solo Ragnaros, and all previous 9 bosses before him, as a protection paladin. My main spec is retribution, so I only had decent tanking gear and around 289FR with my aura.
Artharas' post above me was very helpful, especially about the "sweet spot" you must stand on so that when he pushes you back you'll land unharmed in the lava.
Fight lasted 50minutes. I didn't try at all to avoid his knockback, instead I threw a flare on the "sweetspot" Artharas said and immediately after Ragnaros knocked me back, I swam to the flare, Holy light, and fight again :)
The adds phase was simply a chance for me to regain a full mana bar, no problems at all with them.
I used wisdom both on seal and judgement.
Only 2 interesting points I can add to the previous posts:
1.Two or three times during the fight, after been thrown into the lava, somehow I managed to have less than 10k health. If that happens, bubble or LoH immediately, the danger of wipe is imminent :)
2.My tanking sword broke at around 80% because of the previous engagement I had with Majordomo. When my healing mace which I equipped next, turned yellow at 30%, I deployed a repair bot (didn't know if that would work but it did!), repaired to the full, and in 2 seconds I was ready as new :) So you engineers out there, no need to even bring a 2nd weapon. When it breaks, just repair on-site :)

395 fire resist, basically the lev 70 badge FR gear + blacksmithing FR helm + FR aura.
only hard part's making sure you land in the lava after the punts.
damage is minimal, SS + JoL + SoL keeps you at full most of the time.
took about 4 waves of sons, so I'd guess 25mins.

Soloable as a lvl 80 prot paladin.
The fight is not very hard, but it is unfortuantely very RNG.
The only dangerous thing is taking falling damage from the knockback. With correct positioning you should land in the lava every time and avoid the damage, but if your position is just a little bit off or you are unlucky you can get falling damage and possibly die.
When you get knocked back, look to see if it looks like you will get falling damage and have your finger ready on bubble/LoH. Remember that Ardent Defender wont prevent you from dying to falling damage.
Also note that you will never actually land on ground, but the edge of the lava pool is shallow enough for you to take falling damage.
You should position such that you are facing roughly west and thus will be knocked back to the east. Get a feeling for how you need to face to be knocked in the best possible direction, and make sure always to return to that position ASAP.
I used these buffs primarily: Fire aura, RF, BoSanc, seal of corruption. I used JoL the entire fight. Sacred shield is good to keep up, a good time to cast it is when you are knocked back or swimming back.
You can switch to SoL if you get low on health, but remember to switch back at some point; the more dps you do, the less time there is for getting an unlucky knockback.
I did not wear any FR gear.
Sons of Ragnaros is your chance to get full health and mana. When 8 of them are hitting you, BoSanc will get you to full mana quickly. Finish all but 2-3 sons, heal to full with HL and then stop dps while divine plea + BoSanc gets you to full mana. I only melee'd once every 10 sec to keep DP going.
When you are full on mana again, finish the sons off and return to your position for knock back immediately.

Easily soloable as a Ret Paladin wearing Illidan glaive tanking FR gear. I believe I had ~440FR with aura, and it was basically tank and spank swapping between seal of Light and Wisdom. Only real danger is if you cop a punt and don't land on soft ground, in which case you may need to stop and heal yourself back up.
Compared to what you've had to do to get here it's a simple, yet drawn out fight.

In the upcoming Cataclysm expansion (to be released in 2010), he returns from banishment to attempt to burn down Nordrassil, the World Tree, in Hyjal. The tree will be protected by the newly returned Malfurion Stormrage and his Cenarius army.
What this will mean for Molten Core is not certain, but it is likely this instance will stay as it is (much like Stratholme still exists despite Rivendare's return in Northrend)

I was able to solo him as a ret pally using only the fire resist aura in pve gear. I have a few emblem of conquest pieces and 4/5 tier 7 (10 man Naxx).
Strat:
Use seal of light, judge light, always keep up sacred shield. Instant flash of light yourself when you can to keep the HoTs up. Position yourself so you're knocked back into the lava when you fall, otherwise I don't believe this fight is possible. When Rag submerges, stun an add and use hand of salvation (if you have the glyph). Keep 1 add alive and use divine plea if necessary.
You'll only need to bring one weapon with you as ret as long as it's repaired before starting.
I frapsed the fight. Not sure exactly how long it took, but the total file size of 2 files was ~7 gigs... Probably around 15 minutes. If I get a chance, I'll post it.

Soloable by prot pally and feral druid. On seperate visits, of course.
Prot:
There's a rock opposite of where Majordomo summons Rag. When you get knocked back, make sure to land on that thing. Fire resist aura very handy, no other fire resist really necessary. Rotate cooldowns - first knockback, use bubble before landing. Third/fourth, use protection to mitigate his Wrath of Ragnaros attacks. When you make your way back from the rock, jump into the lava rather than the ground - the fall damage is unpleasant. Other than that, Rag isn't a very hard hitter. Swap to a healing weapon if you need healing, get yourself up, get back on him. I'll say one thing though, the fight's long, and Rag melts your weapon. On my druid, I ended up killing him with my fishing pole, and on my pally, I went through my melee weapon and half my healing weapon.
Feral:
Stand as far as you can from him, but still in melee range. If he knocks you back, feral charge back quickly. If you're too close, it will consume the charge, but not let you come back, and then you have to face his annoying fire blasts. If you're not comfortable with that, use the safety rock on the side opposite of where Domo used to be as a back up. If you're feral charging correctly, you don't need any fire resist at all. If you're uncomfortable with feral charges for whatever reason, 200 or more fire resist trivializes the fire blasts.

A creature who waged war against the titans when the world was young. A monster of unimaginable power. A power that dwarfs Kil'Jaedan or Illidan.
A creature that got mauled to death by a feral druid. 11 minute fight. Feral Charge heavily mitigates the fall damage, but doesn't eliminate it. Buffed with 50 resist flask, 40 hit/sta food to reach the old world 9% cap, 132 stamina scroll, mark of the wild, and drums of forgotten kings. The only time I needed to hit a cooldown was when I opted to hit my screenshot button in midair once, rather than feral charge (slight delay as the file writes, and only a split second window of opportunity on the charge). I did hit berserk when the sons came out, so I could time the next wave. To my knowledge, this is the first solo with screenshots to back it up. Anyone attempting to wear him down through high mitigation should bring a backup weapon, your weapon will
take damage
as you fight him. The only boss along the way that wasn't soloable was Golemagg. It takes some high DPS to beat his
stacks
, pally could probably manage it with bubble though. Enjoy and GL farming!

Solo'd him in just 12 minutes as a ret paladin in full dps gear, with ret aura, BoM and SoV. My gear is mostly ilvl 219-226 epics.
It wasn't very hard at all. A good place to stand is a spot where you land on an oddly-shapen cliff when you get blasted. I forgot the geographical orientation of it, but you'll notice it. This greatly reduces the falling damage you take when you get blasted. The Magma Blast typically hits for 3k with fire resistance aura, and is only cast every 3 seconds or so, so it's not a big threat.
The biggest threat was really the sons, they hit rather hard and there are 8 of them. Had to use LoH once on them.
I had repair bots ready, but I didn't need them at all, ended with my weapon at 63/120 durability. :)

I used howl of terror, fear, banish, healthstone, death coil and a healing potion, and it was still a close call.
Killed him before he could slap me with another add phase.
Uninteresting drops, but now I'm 10/10 Molten Core solo. It was a challenge and extremely fun. =)

2manned Ragnaros as a resto shaman in ~t8 gear and a destro warlock in ~t7.5 gear.
Basically this fight is about positioning, let the voidwalker tank, and you and the lock have to stand in the middle edge of the circle so when he does the knockback you dont get out of range of the void. Drop fire resist, it helps alot. Whenever he summons his adds just let your DPS blow them up, rinse and repeat. Probably solable as a protection paladin.

Soloed as DK Blood DPS in my DPS gear and fire res gear. Once you have enough fire resistance it's pretty easy, so long as you have the spot down to fight him. Took me a wipe to figure the right spot so I won't get blown back into hard ground.
I don't recommend doing this without any fire res gear, as his fire attack does 6000 damage. I put on 330 fire res and his damage was very tiny and manageable. The sons adds did trivial damage as well. Once you get enough fire res, the main concern is positioning yourself so you fall in the right spot.

Two manned Molten Core.
Achronos - Asassination Rogue
Highrise - Holy Paladin
Pretty simple, except for the boss with the ton of healers. Had to get each one out of line of sight one by one and dps down.

Step 1: Wait for him to submerge and spawn the sons.
Step 2: Get a warlock to banish one of them, kill the rest.
Step 3: Make a shaman kill Ragnaros by himself.
So you have the
banished
son of the
Firelord
, right besides the
master of all four elements
as he defeats him.
Not exactly canon, but close enough.
Now if we only had a comet...

Confirmed. I solo'd Ragnaros on my (4400gs?) prot paladin with no fire resist other than aura. Was still easy. There were a few close calls and it took 25 minutes, but wasn't a real problem. Weapon broke when Rag was at ~10%, and I was forced to switch to my healing weapon.
Interestingly enough, the Sons of Flame were the easiest part. They allowed me to bring my mana and HP back up to full.
Basically I judged light and used seal of light/wisdom as needed to keep either up. If you stand where the ranged DPS used to stand in classic (at least, in the guilds I ran it with) you will get launched back into the lava. I took falling damage twice out of countless knockbacks.

Soloed as DK Blood Tank, and a Moonkin (to make it quicker). I died once, from falling DMG, i didn't landed in the lava, CRsed me and np from that point. A DK Tank can solo almost all bosses, except gehennas (curse nulls lethal strike healing), and some help is welcome in Magmadar, if u aggro the dogs in a fear... get ready to be deleted, but u can take a mage, moonkin or whatever who does AoE's, down the dogs and ask him/her to let u kill it by yourself.
Have fun trying and excuse my english, not mi "lengua materna" :)

If you clear the instance till Ragnaros, and you leave it there, the boss will be there for 2 hours, then it will despawn. If you want to kill it later, you have to kill Majordomo again.
Majordomo repops every 12 hours.
He wont drop loots again if you killed it for second time.

Hi,
As a person that never got the chance to fight Ragnaros in Vanilla (I was in a non raiding social guild) I would like to know for soloing purposes does Ragnaros melee swings deal physical or fire damage?
From what i remember Baron Geddon melee swings are all fire damage so I'm wondering if its the case with Ragnaros also? This would basicly mean that Fire Res would be good to mitigate dmg done to you.
Also another thing,
When he does a knockback is there a safespot for a person where you wouldnt get knocked back? What i mean is, is there a spot where lets say a healer could stand (At healing range) and during the knockback "fly" against a "wall" hes against and this way avoid having to run back to original position?
Im considering bringing a healer on my other computer as my main class cant heal and I imagine the knockback would be the most annoying thing to handle in this fight if youre trying to control 2 characters yourself. Having a healer at a kind of safe spot would basicly mean i could concentrate moving to melee range with my main only and this way avoid the extra dmg that he does when noones in melee range.
Anyone able to clarify these points?

Solo'd with my prot pally with mostly 10 ICC and some 264 frost emblem bought gear and a
BOA WEAPON,
that parts very important. The fight lasted 20 mins according to the time left on BoS. Using SoCor most of the fight and only switching judgements for hp/mana unless under 50% hp while fighting Rag then I'd switch seals. Making sure to land in the lava every knockback it was really a piece of cake with the 264 libram proc'ing on SoR and keeping Holy Shield up almost all the time using the normal 69696 tank rotation. I took next to 0 damage while in melee range and the elemental fire debuff was mostly absorbed by Sacred Shield then on knockbacks the magma blasts were resisted/absorbed (only had fire res aura for my fire resistance). As long as i stayed above 50% while on Rag when the adds came out BoS brought mana up and SoL brought hp up then I was ready to go all out on Rag some more.
Most important thing that I haven't seen in previous posts, use a BoA weapon! They don't take durability damage and since the fight only lasted 20 mins I'd say they are more than enough damage to be worth not having to pay repair bills on 2 dead weapons

Popped all cds and went for a quick burn with the hunter pet tanking. I (shammy) ended up spending most of my time chain healing the pet since rags immune to fire damage. Really annoying as enhance. Easily doable though, happy hunting.

Solo'd as an 80 Blood DK with iLevel gear no more than 226.
I had all four pieces of fire resistance gear from Badges of Justice and used a Lesser Flask of Resistance to give me a total of 250 fire resist. I also threw on some pieces of tank gear to make up for the stamina loss, netting me about 24k health.
It was a pretty easy fight with two close calls due to fall damage. A cycle of Anti-Magic Shell + Rune Tap and Vampiric Blood + Rune Tap (with Icebound Fortitude thrown in every now and then) kept me healthy while and after getting knocked up. I blew whatever remaining cooldowns I had including Death Pact when the Sons spawned. I didn't keep track of how long it had taken but I would estimate no more than 15 minutes, most likely less.

Managed to solo him with ease today as a protection paladin, never dropping below 90% HP. The fight took about 30 minutes. With Ragnaros' defeat, I have finally soloed every boss in Molten Core.
The gear I used was a mix between Fire Resistance-, tanking- and healing-items.
Here
I've listed them in the comparison tool, along with enchants and gems. As I had earlier wiped during attempts at soloing Ragnaros because of fall damage, I planned to equip some healing gear so I could easily heal back to full when I'd take fall damage next time. The libram is probably the only item that's equipped only for extra damage. This gear-setup gave me a whopping 460 Fire Resistance (giving me the resistance rating "Excellent", never seen that before) when combined with Fire Resistance Aura. Using a
Bind on Account
-weapon as
ludafrank
suggested (thanks man!) I also avoided Ragnaros'
Melt Weapon
-ability.
Following
Artharas
' tip (thanks to you too!) by standing
here
, I noticed I had enough resistance to walk down in the lava, right up to Ragnaros. This increased the "safe" distance at which Ragnaros could knock me back with.
Healing turned out to be a lot easier than I had expected.
Divine Plea
supplied me with all the mana I needed, and
Judgement of Light
kept me at full HP almost the entire fight. I never had to use any other kind of heal (not
Lay on Hands
either) nor
Divine Shield
. My position when fighting Ragnaros always ensured that I fell in the lava when he knocked me back, and his adds were a joke.
This
is the talent build I used. It's a special (permanently in-test) "soloing-build" I created. Can always be improved...
<EDIT:>
As of the upcoming expansion of Cataclysm, the talent calculators on wowhead and Blizzard's official sites have been reconfigured. Thus, this link no longer redirect to the build I used when I fought Ragnaros. There are various calculators which still uses the old talents, but as these will soon be outdated (and already somewhat are, even before Cataclysm), I see no point in listing the build I used anymore.
These are the buffs and items I used on myself:
- Runescroll of Fortitude (+165 stamina)
- Fish Feast (+80 Attack Power, 46 Spell Power and 40 Stamina)
- Scroll of Strength VIII (+30 strength)
- Elixir of Greater Agility (+25 agility, got a lot of them from a friend that leveled alchemy)
- Seal of Vengeance
- Fire Resistance Aura
- Righteous Fury (-6% damage taken via talents)
- Greater Blessing of Sanctuary
Other buffs that were nearly permanently active:
- Sacred Shield
- Divine Plea
- Holy Strength (+200 strength, from the Libram proc)
As healing was no problem I guess I could have swapped out some of the healing-items with my regular tanking gear. My math is too bad (at least too slow) to figure out whether the extra Spell Power boosted my Sacred Shield better than the strength from my tanking gear via the
Touched by the Light
-talent.

Soloed this morning with my buddy's Ret pally 2843 gs average icc gear.
Went in killed the council took my chances against rag.... died from fall damage cause i stood in the wrong place. then i moved to the southeast and when he knocked back i would land on the rock, heal, and continue the onslaught. fire res aura helps a lot and i always had AoW active for emergency heals so dps was a lil low (only about 4k-5k dps). The only time i had to use a CD was divine shield the second time the sons came up. i was on the rock at the time and was automatically teleported down and instead of taking on 4 or 5 at a time i had ALL of them and i wasn't prepared cause i had just taken a bit of fall damage, but i survived and divine stormed my way out of there. Eventually he came up I burned him some more and that was the end of it.
97g 2 boe blues, judgment legs (WOOT!) warrior legs, crap trinket and a cloak were my rewards for downing him! sent the boes to my toons and let him have the epics for repair. very much worth it for a weekly farm.

Soloing this as deathknight was pretty easy, once i found the right spot to stand on, so the knockback makes me land into the lava and not land, cause the falldmg is whats going to kill you, Also if u dont get to him fast enough he will do 5k+ fire dmg every few secs on you.
You should be in blood spec ofc with tanking gear on, and use blood tap or other defensive abilitys right after he hes knockbacked you and he does hes 5k fire dmg on you cause your out of range of hes melee. The adds that spawn on 75% and 25% hp was a joke(think its more then 2 times it spawns but not sure when)
This fight took me 35 mins.
Also a sidenote for paladin's make sure if your there alone to take with you a spare weapon, been there 2 times on my palladin so far and my weapon broke both times, did not have this problem as deathknight though..
Dont know if there is many people soloing this for the Eye drop, but my guess is there is a few, hope this helps, gonna upload picture of the spot i found was best to stand at to avoid fall damage

Just soloed him as a pure fury warrior. I picked up bloodthirst glyph and used lesser flask of resistance (with an additional +40 resistance with mixology) and had drums of kings and wild to bring my resistance up to 144. I also had to respec into improved intercept since all his knock ups came every 20 secs or so.
I was able to get him down before the submerge but it was pretty close. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're very geared. My warrior is at 6500gs with shadowmourne. Pretty nice and quick for farming.
Was also able to do most of the other bosses as fury except for Golemagg and Garr.

I just soloed this guy on my warrior with a prot/fury spec with Bloodthirst, improved intercept and generic prot talents. Usual bloodthirst, Enraged Regen, and Cleave glyphs. Just under 40k with my tank gear (5300ish gs) and nothing special (IE no fire resist gear or BC junk) I used Flask of resist, Drums of kings and wild, Runescroll and food to hit about 47-48k with commanding shout.
I must say Improved Intercept is MUST. His knockback is on a 22-25 sec cooldown it seemed and without the talent you would get killed pretty quick with his instant pwn you for not being in melee ability. He calls it out...so I would start mashing my intercept button so I could get it off with the weird distance of being knocked up+out. I can't express enough how important this was for me for the fight. You have the Last stand+engraged regen O sh!t button but you can't use it very often. Nail the intercepts you should be fine.
I had to fight in beserker stance the whole time due to latency and macros to switch to berserker and cast Intercept not being 100% effective. Wasn't bad though, glyphed Bloodthirst would outheal his damage over time. His dot hurts and will do more then you can heal through but it is on a cooldown and bloodthirst will catch up over the course of the fight.
He submerged about 4-5 times and I used that time to make sure I bloodthirsted up to 100%.
My weapon was broken about 20% and I had to switch to Bryn'toll for the last 20% but it was fine.
I might try Bryn'toll for the whole fight next time to cut down on kill time, and switch to sword/shield on the sons. But either way, I would recommend an heirloom weapon or multiple weapons in your bags.
Took 19 mins and 45 sec to down him. No Eye either :(
Maybe next week. :)

Used divine shield at least twice and many time Divine Protection. Word of Glory is a must for this.
I did it in 12 minutes. Long, stressful and repetitive xD But worth the 140g he drop at the end.

Pretty easy solo for Blood DK after 4.0. I don't have the best gear; my average ilvl is 206 according to my stats. That's with three FR greens on, ending up with 176 FR flasked total and just over 35k HP.
Key to this fight is being in the right position to avoid taking fall damage (and don't be afraid to toe the lava when in melee with Rags), and saving defensive CDs for the Sons. A DK with my gear should actually be able to burn down the Sons quickly enough that you may even be able to use that phase of the fight for some downtime, saving one spawn alive so you can Rune Tap and Death Strike it to top yourself off.
Another tip for this fight, even more cementing Blood as an ideal spec for it: after the knockback, Rags won't nuke you if there's something in melee range he can swing at. This includes your ghoul or even a Bloodworm. Sometimes it's hard to tell, but if you are going to get nuked instead, make sure you manage your CDs appropriately. Try to alternate Bone Shield and AMS with each knockback.
All in all, an easy chunk of change if you've got the gear or the skill for Gehennas. Cores will continue to sell well, too.

I found a use for Subtlety as a Rogue...it makes Ragnaros soloable. The largest source of damage you will take is,
by far
, the 5k damage nuke he casts on you if no one is in melee range. So, go subtlety, but glyph more or less like a combat rogue, mash sinister strike, and just shadowstep back to him whenever he does the knockback. Didn't even need a repair bot, he dies long before my weapons were even close to broken.

I just solo'ed Molten Core as a discipline priest. Interestingly, I died several times on trash but never on a boss. I have 264 gear and used a disc pvp spec (for the extra dps from spell reflection). Archangel is a must for mana regeneration.
A few notes in no particular order.
-- Ragnaros's adds are far more challenging than he is, and because of Rag's 1.1 million hit points you'll need to go through several waves of adds. The adds' combined dps is easily enough to take out a disc priest if you're not careful. I used power infusion + holy nova spam for a while, but when I dropped to 50% health, I'd fear then focus my dps on the remaining adds near me. They only have 15k health each and have usually dropped about half from the holy nova spam, so they die fairly quickly. Hint: fight on the NE side of Ragnaros so you get tossed back into lava, not onto land.
-- The big fire elemental trash (firelords? I don't recall their name) are quite a pain. The have a 15 second silences which is an absolute killer. Not to mention their adds begin splitting. The adds have a large pile of health each, so it takes a while to get them down (which leaves others to split in the meantime). I generally focused all my dps on the fire lord and got out my shadowfiend for extra dps as soon as possible, then focused on the adds. Mostly though you can avoid these guys.
-- I thought Garr would be more difficult than he was. I pulled by DOT'ing up a few adds but mostly did my damage through holy nova spam. Power Word: Shield worked surprisingly well in spite of Garr's dispel magic, as they'd beat through it fairly quickly anyway.
-- Geddon was a joke. I fought him in the tunnel to avoid being tossed very high in the air.
-- Golemagg wasn't too tough, although he did hit rather hard once he was enraged. I pulled out my shadowfiend after his enrage then cast fade so I could focus my attacks without needing as much healing. They killed the shadowfiend rather quickly though, so in retrospect I might have been better off serving as a tank while letting the shadowfiend dps Golemagg instead.
-- Sulfuron's healers hit surprisingly weakly. I mana burned them outta mana then blew 'em away one by one. E-Z.
-- Majordomo's adds were something of a pain, as I had him and eight adds on me at once. That means their dps drops during the fight though, so don't be afraid to burn your cooldowns earlier on. (It's an 8-10 minute fight anyway). I mana burned the healers out of mana (doesn't take long) then pulled out my shadowfiend and focus'ed one down. From there on it was just a matter of killing the healers one by one, then the other adds. All in all, not difficult. Just time-consuming and requiring a bit of concentration.
-- Shazzrah has a -75% healing curse on you during the fight. Rather annoying, but you can heal through it anyway (if not very efficiently). I spent a lot of time ducking out of his flamestorm, but in restrospect I might have been served just sitting through it so I could nuke him down faster.
Overall, a very fun experience. I was surprised I was able to do it. Quite fun, and an enjoyable challenge for the bored discipline priest.

Just completed the whole Molten Core as a retri paladin, apart from Golemagg the Incinerator (that guy is a total d-bag, the fight took 33minutes as a holy paladin).
Ragnaros is simple, stand by his feet, when he throws you away, give yourself a quick heal, the fall damage can be as high as 50% of your max. hp - as for the adds, get 3 holy power, divine storm, rinse & repeat until they're only 3-4 left, then Word of Glory yourself up to max hp.

Trying to solo him as a prot warrior, can be abit of a challenge.
Since you're the only one in melle range, he'll knock you back/up now and then, meaning you've got to either charge/intercept to not get thrown back into the lava.
Could always use a parachute cloak too, but since that's got a minute c/d and he'll use the knockback more often than that, spamming charge/intercept is needed, else you go splat on the way down :(

I just did him as an 85 Death Knight, average 342 ilevel DPS gear and blood tanking spec. The key to this fight, for me, was positioning. Success or failure hinged on avoiding fall damage, as it seems to for most classes. To that end, I used glyphed Path of Frost and I always made sure I had a frost or death rune up for when he was going to knock me back - this helped with some of the falling damage but the most important part was standing in the right place.
The right place to stand, for me, was exactly south-east of him, perhaps 1 or 2 feet from the lava pool he is in. That way, when I was knocked back I would always land on the rocky outcrop behind me. Out of the whole fight (maybe 5 knockbacks?) I took falling damage twice, which ended up being 20k a time (health pool of 130k). When he was at 23k HP left over the sons came, which were no bother with heart strike.

Will be doing him again tonight with ilvl 342 and the above-mentioned strategy, will report back on how it goes.

best spot
to tank him. Thanks mate!
Staying there you will always land on a lava pool, avoiding the falling damage. After landing I swam as fast as I could, spamming charge, so I would get back to Ragnaros in little time. That's also important cause his ranged attacks were hiting me for 5,4K.
That's pretty much everything. Use your cooldowns wisely. If you don't have it already, make a healing macro using Last Stand, Berserker Rage and Enraged Regeneration (and Healthstone, Health Potion if you have those available, always nice for pvp situations). I activated mine when my life went down to 60% and again by the end of the fight.
Have a good farming!

With that just make sure you have the rage for it around the timer and I spam it and charge back down as he knocks me away and continue to beat on him. Might record it next week when i do him again if people are interested. Good luck!

I just finished soloing him on a level 85 hunter, ilevel 340. I've never even done that raid before. I recently tried to solo it a few weeks ago. But after a couple bosses I was simply too tired to finish. But I digress.
Anyways, I didn't even know the fights. But it was still a cake walk to one shot every boss. I did most of the raid with a worm pet. But I used a spirit beast on Ragnaros. I probably didn't need it, but I was wearing my T5 as well.

Solo'd it with my enhancement shaman 85 (ilevel 342) Patch 4.0.3
Was only helping a guy kill the last boss of BRD but then out of curiosity (just started playing wow midway through wrath) wanted to know how that raid was. Since I didn't know how the raid worked, took me a while to get to him. Cant say it was the easiest fight, due to the ridic amounts of knock backs, I pretty much had to use greater healing wave every time I had 5 stacks of maelstrom do to the 350 faceplants I had during the battle.
At the end he droped some purples and

Soloed as a lvl 85 fury warrior with ilvl 328. If you have the talent skirmisher it will reduce the CD on intercept to 20 seconds and you will always have it up for the knockback. Having rage for it shouldn't be a problem, but just make sure you have 10 rage almost all the time and you're safe.
I popped my reck and death wish at the start of the fight and didn't drop below 60%. Good luck!

How easy is Rag to solo at 85? I'm melee, and I know that although his health is no problem at all, some fights have mechanics that you simply can't get around with one person. Is there anything like that?

def cake as an 85 feral druid as long as you make sure to feral charge / skull bash (if feral charge is on CD) when you get the knockback.

Easy as an enhancement shaman, use ghost wolves and earth elementals to be in range of the knockback so you can duck out and not get hit.

Here is a video of
Ragnaros
vs my level 85 Blood Death Knight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSzh5zQ1S48
.
The video does not show the entire fight, but it does show where I think a good place to stand is (worked for me)
so that when you get knocked back you land up on a rock which does significantly less damage vs landing on flat ground.
If you are an engineer you can avoid fall damage for some of the fight (or if you are fortunate enough for Ragnaros
to hit you less than once per 30 seconds than it would work for the entire fight) if you use a
Parachute Cloak
which has only a 30 second cooldown.
Also if you use the cloak try to click on it when you get close to the ground instead of as soon as possible.
When I clicked on it as soon as I was up in the air I would drift back quite a ways and it takes a long time to
run back.

Just soloed as a level 85 prot warrior. The most important thing to remember is to position yourself with you back to the giant lava pool so a mistake will not mean instant death. But as a warrior, a small mistake can make the difference between a kill or a wipe. When he knocks you into the air, be sure to spam your charge button so you will not take any damage from falling or his ranged attack (which hurts a lot). If you can get the charge down, its a DPS race. Once you get him to 20% and you can use Victory Rush, its all over.

I can solo whole MC with my affliction warlock.
Let me explain how to solo Ragnaros! (this might work for hunters to)
The thing is with Ragnaros, is that he goes down in the lava
When he does that he goes down and you can't dps him. Then he starts summoning Sons of Flames these come with eight at a time. The first time I tried Ragnaros he got me there.
So now we know what can kill us (you can also survive this, don 't get me wrong but my technique might work way better). So now we know our biggest threat.
This is how it works:
- Before you start the event, set your pet next to Executes. He will be our tank
- Also in the outer ring, place you portal down. I will explain this later.
- Once started you want this to do:
* Keep your pet alive
* Use teleport when Ragnaros knocks you back
* Pop
ALL CD
's in this fight, but why? We want to kill him
before
he sumberges! So you got about 3 minutes and and a few seconds to kill him. We use the portal to safe us time. Sometimes you don't get knock backed at all but I didn't figure out why not.
After 2 mins loot him and be proud!
Note: Yes you can kill him in about 2 mins. Instead of portal you could stand in the lava but if you are using life tap often that can be a problem. Hunter can use disengage instead of portal!

If you're having trouble finding the 'sweet spot' where being punted won't result in fallback damage, it's quite feasible at 85 to just sit in the lava and cast at him. His Magma Blast does around 4k, and you take spell pushback and 500 damage every few seconds from sitting in the lava... that's measly compared to the possible 70+k damage you can take from fall damage if you're punted badly.

This was easily done solo by me, an ilvl 339 prot pally. I did die the first try from the knockback, but kind of gauged where I'd need to be to hit lava instead on my 2nd try. It's pretty much a tank and spank, just keep your resistance aura up, and upon landing from knockback (in lava, of course), head right back up and spank repeatedly :). Sons are no biggie, they fall easily to HotR/Cons/AS.
I had tried an earlier poster's recommended spot to melee, and it was a difficult spot to master, hence the death on the first try. Here is where I stood to melee, and fell safely in lava :P

I just killed him on my DK, I forgot to stand in the right spot the first time and I died from falling damage. After running back, killing him, and looting - I suddenly noticed that Majordomo was standing there staring at me. Talked to Domo, and wouldn't you know it, another Rag spawned ontop of the first Rag corpse.
I'm wondering if I purposely died on the 2nd Rag spawn, and went back and killed him just like the first. If a third Ragnaros would spawn, and so-forth... Hmmm guess I'll have to try on my other 85 sometime.

I died while soloing him and when I returned executus was back to life and rag was still there, so after I killed rag I was able to summon and kill another one. If this happens to you don't talk to executus before you kill the first one or you might have to deal with two Ragnaroses at once.

I solo'd this guy on my 85 DK, for kicks and for the achievement.
Thought it would be easy until I realized Wrath sent you skyward (or cave-ceiling-ward if you wanna be technical) and I would lose 60% of my HP from falling damage. After that horrible death, I tried again. Do note that I had no means of falling speed reductions (i.e. parachute) on me at the time so I had to scope the lava for a deep enough pool that would cushion my fall, I found one and was able to down Raggy the first time... however, something miraculous happened. Executus, who summons him, respawned again while Raggy stayed after I rezzed and came in again. I downed him twice in 1 day! Sadly, no Eye dropped on either occasions. Got a solid 300g from those 2 fights alone (minus the 50g required to repair my badly melted weapon.)

It depends on your phone, but these steps are the groundwork:
Get an
MPQ extractor software (MPQ Editor might work)
navigate inside the sound.MPQ to \Creature\Ragnaros\
once there look for the files Spicbringer picked in the above post:
"By fire be purged!"
\\Creature\\Ragnaros\\RagnarosSpecialAttack01.wav
"Taste the flames of Sulfuron!"
\\Creature\\Ragnaros\\RagnarosSpecialAttack02.wav
"My patience is dwindling! Come, gnats, to your death!"
\\Creature\\Ragnaros\\RagnarosSpecialAttack03.wav
"Die, insects!"
\\Creature\\Ragnaros\\RagnarosSlay01.wav
Nasty sounds( Aka raggy dies):
\\Creature\\Ragnaros\\RagnarosDeath.wav
(ignore the double slashes, those are for escaping on another when executing inside of WoW)
with said Editor simply extract those .wav files.
.wav is an uncompressed soundfile, and basically everything can play it, some phones may need it to be converted however (i.e. iPhone)
Once you have the files get them on your phone, as mentioned above that procedure is different for every phone and if you google for that you should be good.

With the impending 4.3, I picked up farming MC for Rogue gear.(Mainly wanted the daggers and BF legs but also collectting Nightstalker) The entire zone is a pretty easy solo. Granted I am in high dps PvE gear, I'm still sure I could easily do it in my V10 PvP gear; kills would just take longer.
I stealth past all the trash except the occasional dogs that detect me, and gank bosses. They're pretty easy fights and struggle just to beat through improved Recuperate. I use Evasion on the ones with large groups of trash, by the time my 20sec evade runs out they've all died to FoK spam and the boss follows shortly. There isn't much else to say, they're too easy to give strategy. I will say that I learned to point Ragnaros a certain direction so that I land on the ground after punts... that's about it. I could also suggest using Cloak on Baron's bomb debuff to avoid being sky tossed, but it'll only work 1 time and he'll get off 3-4 bombs if you're solo. On Gar and the others with adds just spam FoK with Evasion.
I also 2man BWL weekly with a guildmember and am starting up SSC/Eye raids too. We all want our fancy T5 and weapons for next patch. At the time of this post I am 6/8 Nightstalker 4/8 Bloodfang 2/5 Deathmantle. Whichever set I can fill up by the time 4.3 hits will likely be the winner.(I hope it's Deathmantle because that one made a killer PvP set once upon a time and I'd love to wear it for that cause. Ganking players with skull mask and hood=win)
Don't wait until afterwards to start getting cool models... you can farm them right now in advance and have them just waiting for day 1 of the patch. I also recommend this if you want PvE sets because you will likely have to do them 5-10 times to get all the pieces and it's only 1 clear per week. I've done MC and BWL 5 times each(That's 5 weeks) and you see they still aren't done. 5 clears of BWL and I'm still missing the hat, shoulder, gloves, boots(Aka the slots of actual value refusing to drop). I'd seriously have regretted not farming in advance.

Been giving this guy a go lately for the past few days and I think I'm just not quite there gear-wise yet. Tried the following all with some success (all in battle stances):
1. Nightelf Pure Fury Warrior (with a couple points in Arms and Protection) @ 83, Titan's Grip, and enhanced Bloodthirst / Regeneration bonuses (my normal setup). No fire resist though. Figured out how to at least land on the high cliff but can't figure out for the life of me if I can use charge at all while being thrown; it seems to be not at all despite everyone seemingly to say the contrary. Had no to minor problems with the other bosses but was able to defeat them all except Ragnaros so far.
2. Respeced into Arms/Fury with that enhanced charge to hit it in the air - that helped a lot! Seems like I take more damage though with Arms spec.
3. Arms/Fury boosted from 0 FR up to ~108 Fire Resist
4. Tried all three of above combinations with 2H+Shield, 2H alone or 1H+Shield... Seems like the order of best damage I could do was 1H+Shield Fury or Arms, 2H+Shield Fury, and then just plain old 2H with the Arms tree active.
5. Tried again with +FR and one of those Darkmoon Cards giving a small heal boost when hitting in melee. It helped slightly but of course no where near enough.
---(edit)
6. Purchased a Mending scroll for my weapon. It helped enough to notice some fight longevity but not enough to counteract his damage.
7. Likewise tried a Windwalker scroll - that too gave some avoiding damage but not quite enough.
8. Put an enchantment on every piece of armor I had... helped a little.
9. Tried a few Golem potions. Again, nice damage output but not enough.
Greatest success so far is pretty much the order listed, though the amounts don't vary by too much... I can get him down to the 700's (finally got into 670s on my last try) but nothing close enough to beat him down yet. Using pot and regeneration but that's pretty much it for healing regardless of setup. ilevel is about 310.
Just not sure if I'm geared up enough just yet. The few warriors posting so far haven't said their levels except for I think, the one 80... I'd imagine I'd be able to kill him at 85 though I hope. Not saying he's *supposed* to be easy after all but I just wonder if there's something I'm doing "wrong".
----
From the later attempts with focusing on pure defense (1H, Shield, FR), damage (2H, Golem Pot, no FR), or healing (1 or 2H, FR, Mending) I've gotten him consistently down into the 600s. With mending, I finally hit the upper 400s so getting there ;).
After every possible combo I can think of, I think I'll simply have to return and try this again at 84 or 85. Since those two levels continue to offer huge health boosts and recoveries (regeneration), I would think it's doable at 85.

Soloed Raggy with my frost mage (352 ilvl) with no problems. He was quite possibly the easiest boss to solo in Molten Core. I stood underneath the rock formation as one usually would, applied
mage armor
and glyphed
frost armor
(which could have been replaced by something else, it obviously wasn't needed and engaged him, using CDs. He didn't even knockback, he just cast his Magma Blast. His negative frost resistance may have helped, though I have my doubts that he even still has it.
Was a very profitable raid to solo for a frost mage considering the small amount of effort you have to put in.

Just solo'd him as an 85 Gnomish Fury Warrior with 328 item level.
After 2 initial wipes I got scared and went and got a prismatic elixir for resistance and a small food buff (90stam/90str)
In general it was fairly easy, just required some spot on timing. I just burned him down with bloodthirst constantly and using intercept immediately after his "Wrath of Ragnaros".
The hardest part was in fact timing intercepts since it's a very small window in which you can actually use it. I actually missed a few of the intercepts due to either cooldown or just bad timing, the first one dealt me a massive 60k fall damage(ouch!) but I was lucky with the other ones as I landed in the lava. I popped Frenzied Regeneration after the 60k hit and bloodthirst wound up keeping me alive throughout the rest of the fight.
I hit the 3 minute timer when he was around 150k hp and after clearing out his children(?) it was fairly simple to just spam execute and bloodthirst and shame his ego.
All in all it was VERY exciting! While I may not say, EVER, want to solo him again I can say it was a fun thing to try :D

Came back and downed him today ;). Level 85 Arms Warrior with Inpatience of Youth from Tol Barad, a Golem Blood Potion, and the Tol Barad 2H Sword with the usual pot and Enraged Regeneration. Kept getting him between 250-500K without any fire resist so added 100 points' worth (despite it horribly affecting my gear), and added a mending buff to help migrate the time to cycle ER. ilevel was in the upper 330s / low 340s so not even near maxed out.
Thankfully, I could use ER and Bladestorm right as the sons came up and I had 10K HP left! From there just executed as fast as I could. For my troubles I got a few purples, blues, and 137 gold.

Any 80+ toon should be able to do this fight solo. The only "trick" is to stand with your back to the widest part of the lava. On the MC map here that is about 9 o'clock. When you get knocked back, you will land in the lava and can swim back over to the boss. Of course, if you are ranged dps class you can just sit back and burn.

The Firelord and his brethren once held sway over the entire world. As a servant of the Old Gods, he fought against the Titans for domination over the planet. The victorious Titans banished him and his brethren to the Elemental Plane — there to remain imprisoned until the end of time. It was then and there that the brothers turned on each other. For five millennia a battle was fought at the core of this world. It was during the Elemental Sundering that Ragnaros attacked Thunderaan, Prince of Air. Thunderaan was utterly defeated and the Firelord feasted upon his essence, but was unable to consume him entirely. Ragnaros divided what remained between his servants, Baron Geddon and Garr.
In the center of a vast lake of fire in the Elemental Plane stands Sulfuron Keep, the home of Ragnaros. Until comparatively recently, he ruled his underground land with a molten iron fist.
Around three hundred years ago the ambitious and ruthless Dark Iron clan initiated a war against their dwarven brethren, the Bronzebeard clan and Wildhammer clan, thinking that they were about to unite against the Dark Irons. During this War of the Three Hammers, the Dark Iron dwarf leader named Thaurissan lay siege to the Bronzebeard's capital city of Ironforge, while his wife Modgud attacked the Wildhammer capital of Grim Batol. Mudgod was succesful in her assault upon the Wildhammer dwarves, but Thaurissan proved less succesful. The Bronzebeard dwarves repelled his attack and quickly dispatched aid to the Wildhammer dwarves. In a short time, the Dark Irons' fortunes took a turn for the worse, and they were pushed back to the city of Thaurissan, the Dark Iron dwarven home. Thaurissan, seeking to summon a supernatural minion that would turn the tide of the war back to his favor, called upon the ancient powers sleeping beneath the world. To Thaurissan's surprise, and ultimately his doom, the creature that emerged was more terrible than any nightmare he could have imagined.
Now, freed by Thaurissan's call, Ragnaros erupted into being once again. Ragnaros' apocalyptic rebirth into Azeroth shattered the Redridge Mountains and created a raging volcano at the center of the devastation. The volcano, known as Blackrock Mountain, was bordered by what is now known as the Searing Gorge, to the north, and the Burning Steppes, to the south. Though Thaurissan was killed by the forces he had unleashed, his surviving Dark Iron clan brethren were ultimately enslaved by Ragnaros and his elementals. Many Dark Iron dwarves remain within the lower areas of the mountain, especially Blackrock Depths, toiling away at the behest of Ragnaros and the Firelord's lieutenants. They worship Ragnaros, considering him not only a Elemental Lord but also an Old God, although he is only affiliated with the Old Gods. The Bronzebeards and Wildhammers, however, remain free.
Witnessing the horrific devastation and the fires spreading across the southern mountains, the Bronzebeards' King Madoran and Wildhammers' King Khardros halted their armies and hastily turned back towards their kingdoms, unwilling to face the awesome wrath of Ragnaros. Now he lies at the bottom of that volcano on Azeroth, striving to find a way home, as well as to gather his strength once again so he can burn away Azeroth and take it for his own. Meanwhile, in Sulfuron Keep and elsewhere across the Firelands, his elemental princes battle constantly for dominance. He and his dwarven minions took control of the Blackrock mountain's volcanic depths and made war on the orcs in the Upper Blackrock Spire, which served as the seat of power for Nefarian the black dragon. Ragnaros has uncovered the secret to creating life from stone and plans to build an army of unstoppable golems to aid him in conquering the whole of Blackrock Mountain.

Finally found that if you melee approaching him from appoximately 3 o'clock (i.e. from his right) you can line up with a very high rock that you can land on when he tosses you. Also note that you don't have to be right up on him to melee, you can be in the middle of the strip of land there and still hit him even though he seems far away.
Landing in cat form helps if you're feral, but should still be doable.

What gear you would need depends entirely on what your class is, of course.
But basically, to kill Ragnaros, the best thing is to keep farming the bosses before him. Each of them drops class specific gear with good fire resistance.
Once your raid group has a good selection of gear from the previous bosses, you will have a much easier time with Rag.
But until you get the dropped gear from MC, anything with good FR, attack power, critical pluses and high armor class.
If you are a mail wearer like me (hunter), the Black Dragonscale stuff is good. You give up agility but the added attack power and fire protection make up for it. And you can have agility enchants added.

A MT with ~300 FR can tank this fight easily and resist 95% of the knockbacks. Melee should ahev around 150-200 FR, ranged needs about 100-150 FR as well as the healers. Just make sure to have an assist on the sons and they will go down veeeery quickly.
So..FR + Rogues = Loot

Not been myself but I did Onyxia the other day with 2 other 80's besides me and one 78 and seeing as he's the same lvl old raid im guessing around 1mill hp, btw he can now be done with 5 80's as long as one is healer and preferably another healer / hybrid

As of 3.0.8 you DO NOT need any item or to do the quest chain to summon up this boss. Just kill the other 9 bosses in molten core first. The brazier's/fire's go out all by themselves. No crazy Duke Hydraxis mumbo jumbo. We 8 man'd it easily.
3 pallies (fire aura ftw)
1 lock
1 hunter
1 warrior
1 shammy
1 mage

My friends and I ran a 5-man MC recently, and we had no trouble with any of the other bosses. We only tried Rag a few times but we couldn't down him because of the knockback on the MT. At lvl 60 you needed 250 FR to be immune to his knockback, but does anyone know how much you need at lvl 80 to be immune? Thanks

Arms Warrior Lvl 80
Priest Lvl 70

actully you are wrong, a blacksmith needs to raise reputation with thorium brotherhood to revered and then turn in a sulfuron ingot to get the recipie for the epic hammer
https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=17193/
萨弗隆战锤 then you need to get the eye of sulfuros to drop from rag as well that combines with the hammer to turn it to the hand of rag.

Molten Core easily takes a few nights to clear EVEN IF YOU HAVE DONE IT BEFORE. And it takes 35-40 People to do it (definitely 40 for the latter bosses and areas). It's a ton of fun being in there and plugging away at the place, but I wouldn't expect Rangaros to be down anytime soon... at least until everyone's farmed Onyxia and MC for awhile longer.

Just in case you are wondering, or some what care about the story of Warcraft there is a level 62 elite spirit you can talk to in Crystal Vale, in Silithus. He will explain that Ragnaros had backstabbed a god, and made an attempt to consume his essence immediately. He got most of it but some was left over, so Ragnaros and split it in two and gave it to two of his lieutennants, garr and golemagg or something, as pendants. So I guess thats why he's so insane, he's kind of a demigod

2) Molten Core : This is where Ragnaros and a few other bosses are, at level 70 you can probably down all with 10 people, wouldn't doubt it. The blue square on the map is where Ragnaros is.

The drops on this badboy are rather depressing. Let's murder all of MC to get some stuff slightly better than dropped by Azuregos, Lord Kazzak and Onyxia. Sure the legs to all the high-end sets, but I really hope blizzard prevents the sad drop of improper legs i.e. Shaman legs dropping in an alliance run or paladin legs for a horde run. The weapons dropped.... what's a few DPS for hours of killing just to get to this effer. Like I have said many times before: Blizzard can S my N's.

besides, he dont hit for like "700-1500",he hits MT for 2000+ and occasional fireball DPS class or healer for 5000+, he also summon 8 lv60elite fire spawns, and that's only his first stage. Just like Onyxia, Ragnaros must have multiple stages.

Sorry for the long post, but these are my collective thoughts on Ragnaros so far...
It will take much farming of Onyxia and the rest of MC to have a chance at beating him. However, if you all remember, there was once a time that Onyxia was thought to be similarly invincible. She was downed, and Ragnaros too will eventually be killed. I have seen the wipe videos of Ragnaros, and I think that with the formulation of effective strategies, Ragnaros will be defeated. From what I have seen, people have trouble with the part when he splits into 8(?) fire elementals, though I believe the number is convenient because with a raid group of 40, there can be 8 highly regimented groups of 5 that might be able to handle them individually.
I think it is painfully obvious that his loot table will include tier 2 epic set items, tier 1 epic set BPs, and probably some ridiculous epic weapons & armor. I highly doubt he will drop anything legendary or artifact, though he might have a legendary drop with a rate similar to, say, the Runeblade of Baron Rivendare. Naturally, though, it will take many kills to find this out.
At any rate, once Ragnaros is beaten, I believe that Blizzard will keep us interested by introducing raid bosses even harder than Ragnaros and compensate for the difficulty by increasing the cap on how far we can level characters. In turn, Ragnaros will become easier and the new ones will replace him as the near-impossible-to-kill mobs.

Two possible strategies i was wondering about:
--Since Ragnaros is an elemental couldnt he be banished by a warlock? Then the raid could heal up OR even take care of those pesky elementals he summons. Would this work?
--Second wut if you had like ten-twelve pallies all with fire resist aura on? If this works it would add up to like 600 fire resistance to everone in group? That would ROCK.
Keep in mind that these are just theories. Dont slam me because im wrong. Just pondering. :)

Never seen a Rags kill? Here's footage. Its really not too bad, just emphasize on FR gear for your melee and healer classes. Everyone else stand back and DPS with all you got. Make sure you've got him below 50% health before the first dip in the fire, or just wipe and try again.
Sons - just mages cycle frost nova and aoe. Make it quick and keep your mana classes far from them.
Next phase - NUKE.

You'd assume correct that no one has killed him.
The problem with ragnaros is that a) It takes clearing an entire HARD instance to get to him. And then theres b) he's harder, but a significant step from what I understand, than onyxia.

Of course you can't banish him... where would you banish him to? Yup- right here in the Molten COre.

.. the whole kill was kinda weird - we had agreed to do a trial run first to get people used to the encounter & then head to UC and pick up the Wickerman buff and pop the major potions. All of the sudden, he was at 43% with noone dead yet & people only having popped the greater fire pots & some smaller mana pots - and then the sons went down with only 1 dead (he lagged into the lava) and then Ragnaros himself went down with about 20 odd secounds to spare. Of course, our MT died midair from the only knockback he suffered in the whole fight :D
Perdition's Blade, Wrath legs, Dragonstalker legs & Cloak of Shrouded Mist was the loot to be had.

tame onyxia
That would be so awesome, but you would have to be a pretty special Hunter for an entire guild/Raid* to give up Onxyia's loot just so you could have a really cool looking pet... But yeah, Hunters wish.
ALSO ->
Ragnaros had backstabbed a god
Just to clearify, Backstab isnt the best word to use, since some people (ie. me) thought you ment the rogue skill and that Ragnaros was using a dagger to do +150% damage... lol... Betrayed, i think works nicely... No offense, im just being a little Roleplaying silly
And he didnt attack a God, he attacked "Thunderaan" the Son of the Wind Elemental lieutenant "Al'Akir the Windlord" and after he 'consumed' (w/e that means in elemental terms, guess it just means he absorbed the other elements powers w/e) Thunderaan's essence, what was left was stored in a talisman of elemental binding, that was then broken in half, and given to Baron Geddon and Garr.
