Increases the damage dealt with your Backstab, Mutilate, Garrote and Ambush abilities by 10%.
does not specify you behind or infront - true that most of the attacks are done from behind but Mut doesn't have that criteria anymore :D

Well even in 2.4.3 I noticed about 1.5 times damage increase in arenas when i specced mutilate-combat after ShS dagger. I hope it will remain the same even with 45 energy backstab )

Does the 50% more damage require a poison to be actively on the target, or will an instant poison proc qualify?
Also curious if the buff from Master Poisoner works works the same way.

Afaik, mutilate's OH damage wasn't lowered by the 50% penalty before WOTLK and the DW spec even increased it (thus making OH mutilate damage more than MH). Can anyone confirm if it still works that way?

Before the 3.x.x patches, I've been running combat and hemo builds with glad. fists, after leveling most of the way to 70 on mutilate.
After seeing the buffs it seemed to be getting from the wrath patches, I decided to try mutilate again with the modified rogue talent trees (mute + dw spec + opportunity), using the shattered sun daggers (which were about -30 dps each)
Despite the fact that my fists easily dwarf the daggers, Mute has massively out dps'd any combat / hemo build I've used so far. I'm maybe seeing either a nerfbat to mutilate (or things that benefit it) or a boost to combat / sub.
Just my opinion though - can't deny that removing the rear-facing requirement made this build hella fun.

Oh my god, this is wonderful for leveling up! On most mobs (around 9k Hps) I use Ambush (cold blood if I can), mutilate (and I should be at 3/4/5 cps) and eviscerate. If one of these crits the mob is gone, otherwise I should have enough energy to shot another mutilate and bye bye.
Anyway I really love Cut to the Chase in group PvE situations, mostly on bosses since when total dps is too high it's a bit hard to mantain HfB and SnD up.
I must confess: playing as combat I was always envious of mages, destro locks, retridins or arms warriors, because even if you know that you're damaging your enemy you don't see huge numbers as they do. Now I can crit for 5k with eviscerate and I'm happy, it's like playing another character. And I love this! (When I'll reach lev 80 I'm gonna recruit an enha shammy and I'll try a 5 cp envenom with stormstrike. I can't imagine how would it be...)

This Talent has been buffed greatly in Wotlk, esp now since the 50% OH talent is in the first line of combat tree. Combine this with oportunity talent for 20% more dmg, murderer talent for 4% more dmg, improved Kidney shot for 9% dmg and 3 stacks of Hunger for blood (3% more dmg for each stack ) and you end up with a total of 42% damage increase, not to mention 50% more damage on mutilate by having poisons on target. Assasination might be the new choice for raiders now since the talent Cut to the chase which refreshes SaD by envenom and eviscerate will make you save loads of energy for keeping it up.

Deep Assassination is becoming a good choice for PvP too. Instead of the conventional stunlock or Hemo-AR-Prep build, you can rely on burst damage from Mutilate and Eviscerate. If you go this way, grab the Glyphs of Vigor and Eviscerate.

41 point talent, trained at 80. I'd like to point out it requires TWO daggers to use this ability, and it gets even better when poison's applied to your target, increasing it's overall effectiveness by 50%. Pre-WotLK, this ability requires you to be behind your target, which really made this ability harder to use, position and of course if you were slightly to the side, it wouldn't work.
Outside the SHaT bug (pre 3.0.8 post) this is one of the highest DPS specs available.
You're normal PvE rotation will revolve around something like this, Deadly Main, Instant Off.
Rotation:
* Before combat, get 3 stacks of Hunger for Blood up.
* Start up Slice and Dice however you please, really.
1. Mutilate to 4+ Combo Points
2. Make sure Hunger for Blood isn't going to drop soon. Refresh it if it will (5-8 seconds normally)
3. Is Rupture up? If yes, Envenom. Go to step 1.
4. Does Slice and Dice have >12 seconds left? If no, Envenom. Go to Step 1.
5. Rupture. Go to Step 1.
Envenom does more damage per stack/CP than evic will do, plus, if you should have Cut to the Chase, it'll refresh your SnD to max.

wowwiki is referring to the bonus damage ("181 with each weapon"). If you check the formula, you'll see that offhand weapon damage does recieve a pentalty. The extra 181 isn't penalized though, and is increased by 50% when you have dual wield specialization.
Edit: Quoting the formula:
Offhand Base Damage = (Base Damage * Offhand Reduction)
+ ( Mutilate Bonus Damage * (1 + (.1 * Dual Wield Specialization Rank))
Offhand Reduction = 0.5 + (0.05 * Dual Wield Specialization Rank)
Also, from the same quote in your post:
Previously, the Mutilate
Bonus Damage
was listed as being reduced by the offhand penalty.

Dear Rogues,
(Especially rogues who got this after 3.02)
Just because this skill does not require you to be behind the target anymore, does not mean that you should attack from the front. This mainly pertains to inside an instance run. "Why?" you ask?
Well, when you attack from the front, a mob can dodge AND parry your attack. What's a parry? Well, when a parry occurs, your attack is blocked by the mob, and the mob's next attack is sped up. Except this sped up attack gets directed at your beloved tank who is already taking a beating on your behalf, possibly resulting in him or her getting smacked around a lot more, possibly resulting in their death, and subsequently yours.
So do every tank out there a favour. Attack from the back of a mob.
Remember. Good rogues do it from behind. Be a good rogue.

Great job Blizzard, /applause... sure nerf us rogues but no don't nerf ret paladins who can 2-3 shot ppl and healing to almost full HP with a holy light crit via sheath of light talent...
At least HfB got buffed but who in the world goes HfB for pvp anyway? IMO Combat > Assassination atm for raids. I hope that blizzard will re-buff mutilate in 3.1.

even with the recent decrease on the bonus damage to already poisoned targets, mutilate still remains the highest possible dps build for raiding rogues in wrath.
it is arguable as to weather combat swords/fists can compete, but for sure Mut spec is up there on dps.
with improved poisons talent, DW specialization, and opportunity, combined with dual wound poisons, youre looking at top dps.
and unlike previous mutilate builds pre-Wrath, rogues will currently want to look for
fast
daggers rather than slow, since most of the damage comes from poison procs now, rather than the mutilate itself.
Hope this cleared up a few misconceptions.

Dear Tank,
I completely agree with your suggestion that rogues should attack from behind, in fact the same applies to any melee class. Can I respectfully suggest that tanks could greatly assist us by turning the mob or boss as they attack ? A rogue in stealth trying to get an opening move on a target generally travels slowly and whilst we are travelling we aren't doing any damage. If tanks would, wherever possible and appropriate, turn the target as soon as they get to it, us rogues could start our attacks that little bit earlier.

Hmm...quite similar to a Death Knight strike (the same if you are dw-ing and have ToT), only you have to put talents in it and has a higher cost.
