Prob based off The old pink Strider Mazzranache. Both are pink have odd Long names an Are Birds. But unlike Maz this is more lovely an not nearly nude.
An whats more is the part of there Name has rannache at the end. Def a reference.

What's this? It looks like Mazzranche is evolving!
Mazzranache evolved into Patrannache!
Putting the bad Pokémon joke a side, Patrannache looks like a new version of Mazzranache, and a better one, in my opinion.

Patrannache is a new rare Crane Pet in Mists of Pandaria for hunters to tame. It is the only crane with it's unique pink skin. The way to find this pet is the same for every new "rare" pet in MoP, and it's by following tracks. The pets are completely invisible, and leave behind small tracks on the ground on the path that they walk on. The tracks left by Patrannache are almost invisible and are reasonably named "Barely Visible Tracks". For some reason, even on live, the tracks are left backwards, so the bird will be walking in the opposite direction the feet are pointing. A good idea is to put ground clutter on the lowest setting, as it helps vastly
You follow these tracks either until they end, or more reliably, you see one get left before your eyes. This means that the beast is in front of you, but invisible. This is your queue to flare it out. With a correctly placed flare, you should pop the pet into visibility, and be able to tame.
Be careful though, as once the pet is visible, it can be killed by other players
.
If you want to go ahead and be cheap like I was, (I got frustrated because it was impossible to find one track. let alone follow a trail.) You can just pick a spot on the route they walk, and just keep a flare up 100% of the time, and keep yourself occupied with netflix or youtube or something. Eventually the pet will walk into the flare and be popped out of stealth.
This method is a bit less rewarding
, and sort of ruins the purpose of tracking instead of camping, but it works if you get lazy like me.
Good luck hunters :)

I tamed this pet an hour or so ago on Nordassil (4:30pm realm time)
It was definitely a pain to track down, I just followed the trail on a video I saw on wow-petopia.com. (Great place for all hunter pet needs) I followed it for about an hour before I finally picked a spot on its path and just threw flare up until it passed by. The tracks are much harder to see than Savage tracks.
It was worth the effort and damn fun too. I actually felt like a hunter.

I first spotted the bird's tracks near Stoneplow and spent about half an hour following the tracks south past Stormstout Brewery, where I was finally able to flare it out (the ground is flatter here and so the tracks are easier to follow). It's advisable to use Camouflage to avoid aggroing mobs while tracking, and using Flare won't break your stealth.
The tracks face in the OPPOSITE direction to what you would expect - luckily I knew this before I went out hunting it, otherwise it would have thrown me right off.
Make sure to turn the "Ground Clutter" option to "Low" in your graphics options when you go out searching for tracks. The tracks are so hard to spot that the grass can often get in the way.

This was definitely the hardest for me to track down so far. Spawn timer seems to be a good bit longer than the other rares (no evidence, other than anecdotal), and his tracks are aptly named "Barely Visible".
Starts off at the mount in the top right of the Valley of the Four Winds, crosses over the river at the long island with the turtles, then wends his way around the rest of the zone finally finishing off just before the road junction north of the Imperial Granary.
Great hunter pet, and is brilliant for DPS, as when he attacks he looks slightly nuts, especially if you take Lynx Rush.

Tamed this beautiful pet about 7:20am server time Winterhoof. Found a track up in the swamp area where the white cranes are that are non-aggressive at about 24, 44. Followed the tracks past Stoneplow, down towards the lake above Nesingwary's. Lost them but went over by the brewery and waited on the opposite side of the river where I knew she was most likely to come ashore. Kept my flare up and was able to tame about 20 mins or so after first spotting the first track.
They are not kidding when they say that the tracks are really small, hard to follow. I am not sure if I just lost the trail or if the tracks simply disappeared as she does not leave tracks for her entire route.
At any rate, I have a beautiful new pet and I think I am the first on my server with it as I have yet to see another hunter with this crane. :)

And I continue my roll of getting each new rare while I level with this beauty! Tamed around 9 PM server time on Shadowmoon. They're spot on which this one's tracks name, as they were rotten to try to spot while tracking them down. I first happened across one while questing by New Cifera and ended up following them all the way to the bottom of the map.
Unlike the last two, she definitely DID aggro while taming. Hopefully this means the glitch from before is fixed!
Overall not a bad tame, keep your eyes sharp and good luck fellow trackers!

Turn your ground clutter to low - it helps a mighty lot when looking for his barely visible tracks. I added a screenshot of what the tracks look like. :)

This pet was by far the most difficult for me, simply because the tracks are impossible to follow. When people tell you they are hard to see, believe them....they are TINY, buried and spread out. I waited where he spawned and didn't even see them pop up at first. I tracked as far as the swamp and lost him there. Spent the next two hours trying to find him, being the tracks are unreliable and don't always spawn even...I just picked a spot in between this village house and a mountain, then started flaring my happy little head off. This spot left little room for him to miss the flare.
I was only there about 10 minutes when I was going to have to leave, popped a couple more flares and literally had my cursor over the log out when there he was. Talk about timing.
I personally would suggest camping spots you know he crosses through and flaring. As annoying and boring as this is, it takes just as long to track him down with the prints. Though I understand the idea is to track, the prints really should be visible giving you something to 'track.' This pet was not as fun as the others, but worth it...he's my new Butterball! ;)

Just caught him at 4:50 PM ST on Area 52 - Horde (Cárnelion Alt+0225). Following the map on this video (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-cxLoBbWcs
) I was able to follow his tracks. I started over at the southeastern mountain, where I soon discovered a track. From there I decided to fly to the end of his route and follow the path to where his tracks would be going. Finally caught up with him at (25.03, 52.40).
Very tricky tame, as many have mentioned. I decided the Singing Marshes would be too much of a pain to follow his tracks through due to the curving nature of his path and ran ahead to the next straight area, where I found him. I'd suggest doing this for anyone hot on his tail.
Also worth mentioning, the tracks have a five minute up time. That means that once a track is made, it will remain visible for five minutes, then despawn. Just a little something to keep in mind if you see a track one second, and then go back to see it gone.
I hope this helps anyone, and happy hunting everyone!

The "Barely Visible Tracks" are just that,
barely visible
, especially for this pretty little bird specifically, because of them blending in with grass, being under water or sometimes not even showing up at all. So if you are like me and have been running around for quite a while, looking for tracks, and unable to find them, here are some tips that helped me to find
Patrannache
and tame him. I went for the camp in one spot method. I would suggest camping in an area close to the middle of his path like
. That will give you quicker shot of seeing him. Once you find a spot make yourself comfortable and start spamming your
Flare
ability. Eventually (if he hasn't been already tamed) he will come into your flare and become visible. Make sure though you leave your
Flare
up constantly to better guarantee him walking into it. Once you see him you can either put a
Hunter's Mark
on him to keep him visible or tame him immediately. That's all there is to it. Its not is the quickest way to tame him, but it is an effective way.
Other tips that I can give you are:
If you have a rare npc mod, make sure you keep your cache cleared, once he walks through the flare and becomes visible it will go off.
If you are looking for his tracks and you would like help, make sure its a fellow hunter helping you look for tracks. No other classes can see them
Lastly the tracks do disappear after a few minutes after he puts them down, so if you find one, he is close by. And, as stated by other posts, he is walking the opposite direction of where the tracks are pointing.
Hope this helps my fellow hunters. Good luck :)

I tamed him with help from another hunter. Here are a couple things I discovered:
- If another hunter tags him with hunter's mark while you're in party, you CAN see both the mark and Patrannache. I'm unsure if this goes for all of the new rares or just this one.
- The other hunter shot him with a freezing trap while I ran back close enough to tame him. After the trap broke, he had aggro and I was unable to tame. I would click tame and after a few seconds, it would stop casting. The hunter feign-ed death, then I tamed without a problem. So, if you're attempting to tame him in a party be sure you have aggro on him first.

I spent around four hours looking for him over a couple of days after seeing his tracks a few times.
He’s a tricky bird because sometimes the tracks will just disappear and moving ahead and spamming flares to trap him is no guarantee that you’ll catch him… I caught him in the marsh area and was lucky that there were no other mobs around to interrupt the tame – he puts up a little fight but nothing really damaging to an 86 hunter (must be at least 86 to tame), even though he appears as an enemy he only aggroed during the tame.
At this time, patch 5.0.5 his tracks are still being laid backwards so be sure to move and track him in the opposite direction.
As everyone else points out, turning the ground clutter to low is a must if you want to spot those tracks!
Patrannache will complete his route one-way in around 90 minutes before turning around and heading back but be advised there are places along the route where he will phase-out, I found this happened near Stoneplow.
Patrannache is quite a challenge to find but is worth the effort as he is the only pink crane in the expansion.
He spawns between 2 to 8 hours and because only hunters can make him visible via a flare (thanks Blizz) he should be up quite frequently.
I’ve uploaded a few pic’s for you fellow hunters :o)
Take a peek because they will show you the tracks but importantly the scale of the tracks compared with my forsaken hunter – personally I don’t think the tracks are that small but sometimes they don’t appear correctly on the ground making it difficult to track him.
Best of luck peeps!

Just tamed him at about 2:30 p.m. server time on Galakrond at 44,74 - and I can confirm the tracks go in the wrong direction compared to which way he is traveling. I actually did it the hard way and went looking ... Saw the tracks around the Stormstout Brewery area and I followed them EAST (opposite of what you would expect), caught up with him (her?) at (63,63) in the Silken Fields. He is a very slow walker and extremely easy to tame. The tracks are not impossible, so take your time with them. I walked on foot while tracking as to not accidentally miss him if I were to skip a footprint.
Good luck! Very pretty bird.

A good way to find him is to just stay on his trail in one spot, and keep a flare up at all times. Flare has a 20 second cool down and will stay up for 20 seconds too, so you need to always be active. Your flare will fade after 20 seconds. This may be a helpful way to find Patrannache, but not the most useful, because it takes Patrannache about an hour and a half to go each way on his trail. 3 hours total both way, so you may have to wait a while if you use this method. Otherwise, just follow his trail and see if you can find it's tracks. Remember to follow them backwards! Try to put a flare up a little bit ahead of each track. If you see another track spawning, you found him! Put a flare up in front of that track and you will see him! Probably unless he walked really fast or something :P if you dont see him look for another track ahead. Be ready to place a hunter's mark on him, so he doesn't go back into stealth. Also be careful, because he can be killed by other players once you flare him out of stealth.
Goodluck!

I decided to tame this rare bird on a challenge from my friend. I found Portent very Easily, but this one proved to be a bit of a challenge, due to his long, winding route and the fact that i have very bad eyesight.
He drops Barely-Visible Tracks. Aptly named.
He spawned at the southeastern point of his path, at 80, 49 (/way Valley of the Four Winds 80 49 Patrannache Spawn). I decided to sit in a spot i wouldnt easily miss him, at the island at 70, 56 with a constant Flare up. When I noticed a track and no flamingo, I meandered all around, until I decided to camp him at 34, 77 near the Stormstout Brewery. Constant flare up, from whatever point in time he walked past me on the island to him appearing near the brewery for me to tame, it was probably 45 minutes. And that was only half his path.
Yes. Follow the tracks backwards. Turn ground clutter setting to low, even then, its very hard to see his tracks. This was the hardest of the rares for me to find, Patrannache and Glimmer.
Good luck to all of you!

I finally tamed him after many tours through the Valley!
I would recommend checking areas where he crosses roads, water or other "bare ground" where his tracks are easier to spot. I was able to spot his tracks at his water crossing south of Stormstout Brewery, but almost immediately lost them in the grass and animals to the west. I went ahead and waited at his road crossing at Stoneplow and found him there about 10-15 minutes later.

So, after looking up guides, forum posts, youtube videos, and other such helpful tools, I finally decided to hunker down and find this beautiful bird. I found his tracks coming out of the river at 54,76, and followed them to the wild plains. I lost him there, and couldn't find any tracks. After about 30 minutes I decided to go ahead and move along to see if I could find other tracks.
The second trail picked up at 27,54 and went around the hill on his path back to the Singing Marshes. I was getting all fidgety when I actually saw a track appear, popped a flair at 26,50 and found him! Marked, trapped, and tamed at 2:50 am server time on Kul Tiras (US).

Found him within 40 seconds (two flares lol). I'm aware this was very good luck, but the camp spot I used I feel is pretty effective - inside the small ridge (25.01 50.47). This spot guarantees your flare will cover the whole of Patrannache's path as he walks directly through the middle of the ridge, and if you're doing this as a level 86 like I was, there are no nearby mobs to aggro. The ridge also provides a small amount of cover which may be useful if you have competition for this lovely bird.
Happy hunting :)

Tamed Patrannache on Draenor EU server Saturday night and it was a pain to find him. Is by far the hardest rare to find in Pandaria. Even if he move slowly, is really hard to spot his location. There are couple of reasons for that. First, tracks are very tinny and hard to spot, especially in some particularly areas like the swamp or river crossings. Also, even if you found them, they sometime just disappear, most probably because of some phase-out zones in Valley of the Four Winds. When you find the last track, you will never know if that is indeed the last track or the trail disappeared or he was tamed in that spot couple of minutes ago. The camp tactic work really nice for other rares but in this case is not recommended because he have a long path and move slow and you will need to wait a very long time for him to come. Also is a real possibility to be tamed in other spot without you noticed and you will stay for nothing. The best way to tame this nice pet is to know his path perfectly and to verify his route (flying is a big advantage) for tracks. When you found one, just follow them (tracks are still backwards) and when you see the trail end use flare in front of the last one. If is not there do not stay on that spot, just go further on his route and wait him there. Keep flare up and also use a trap on flare for safe. He will activate the trap in the second when it steps in flare light. There are some really good spots for that, like road crossings, Krasarang Wilds ridge, HalfHill area. I hope this comment will help my fellow hunters, Good Luck on hunting !

For those who are new to this... Tracks of all MoP hunter pets have a tooltip text that shows you the name of the tracks. So if you think you see a track but can't be sure if it indeed is one, just hover over it. In Patrannache's case, you'll see "Barely-Visible Tracks" text on screen.
If you don't see the tooltip, it's just ground clutter.

like I was constantly doing to make sure I was on track, then the other hunter can be very helpful in scouting for new footprints. Two sets of eyes made a big difference on my hunt, and having double the flares was nice, too.
Out of sheer curiosity, for those who are now the proud owners of elegant pink cranes, what did you name yours?

Just tamed this beauty at 9:13pm (server time) on Onyxia at coordinates (60,64, roughly)! I was using my flying mount to try to find the "Barely Visible Tracks" (and to avoid mobs), but I quickly realised that wasn't going to work. The tracks are simply too tiny and hard to see to use a flying mount (imo). I couldn't find the tracks until I dismounted and ran around stealthed. They are VERY hard to find. I followed the path of Patrannache (provided by the video linked on Petopia), and kept scanning the ground for the tracks (btw- turn your ground clutter and environmental detail down to low- this will make the tracks more visible). When I finally found one, I just followed the tracks backwards until I couldn't find another one, then just spammed my flare. Patrannache finally walked into it and BAM! No need to lay down an Ice Trap or anything (I'm lvl 90), just Tame Beast asap because once he becomes visible other players CAN target him. Happy Hunting!

Just tamed this lovely pet, my first MoP rare! I HIGHLY recommend turning down ground clutter as her tracks really are tiny as mentioned. Without doing this I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to pick them up. After chasing her footprints around, and losing them a few times, I finally took a punt that I was a little ahead of her and set off my Flare, then set it off again, wondered if I should move, set off a third and BAM, she walked into it! I can confirm that, as of today, you still have to follow her tracks backwards (hoping this is fixed soon as its a little silly and confusing if you haven't read up on the rares). Once you find her, she is a simple tame, I didnt use traps or anything like that. Just popped Hunter's Mark on her to keep her visible and hit Tame.
I don't think I even remembered to have my Tame Beast Glyph activated lol
. Hope these confirmations helped
Happy Hunting!

Edit: I have realised that I didnt include the location, I was a bit over-excited and panicky with it being my first hunt so sadly didnt get the exact co-ords but it was pretty much at the bridge near Silken Fields.
As for the strike through (if it works on edit lol), I double checked and I did have the glyph active, but they seem to be pretty easy tames once you track them down so not sure how much difference it would make if you dont have it.

I agree with the assessment that this is the hardest of the new rares to find. Those tracks are freakin' tiny, and rain or any kind of distraction can cause you to lose them easily.
It took me about 30-40 minutes to figure out what direction Patrannache was moving (I know it probably says in the comments, I just wasn't sure) and then another 15 to 20 of just trying to get ahead. Once I did, I just sat and spammed Flare. I tamed right as Patrannache entered the water to cross near Stormstout Brewery - right between the two hostile big mobs who sit at the waterside.
Good luck everyone!

I think it's a waste of time looking for the tracks when they are so hard to spot. I was waiting in one spot and spam flaired untill he appeared, followed by hunters mark and tame beast.
If it should be more challenceing they could have added some spawn areas, make the rare invisible still so u'd need to use flair to see it. But then makeing it despawn after some minutes and not letting it spawn for quiet a while.. well just an idea... might not be better than the pet tracks.

I just got this lovely bird tonight. (Named him Donut, because he’s not pink, he’s lightish red” >_> *cough* RedvsBlue *cough*)
This is just an observation but I thought I would post it here anyway. I found him shortly after coming across glimmers tracks in Jade Forest. As some of you may know, MoP rares are connected to each other and you can always find the same pair of 3-5 rares up at the same time in a zone. I wouldn’t be surprised if the rare pets work the same way across the whole map and groups of them spawn at the same time. Just a guess but who knows…
Now if you are looking for this guy then I strongly recommend watching the petopia video about him. (Where the wild things are) since it will highlight his path on the map. His tracks are very tiny and well hidden so turn ground clutter down as much as you can and enemy nameplates off. The zone is absolutely covered in swarms of critters that look like footprints from a distance so it’s easy to gain false hopes here. I recommend following his path backwards on a ground mount. That way if he is up, the two of you are almost guaranteed to pass by each other.
(Please note that the tracks are still backwards as of this patch but should be fixed next patch. Until then, follow the direction his heel is pointing.)
Your best bet is to find tracks among the grassy hills as he moves form one body of water to the next. This is where you will get the best contrast and his tiny little brown prints will stick out against the bright colors. From there I don’t recommend trying to follow the tracks since they are easy to lose. Just run ahead to the nearest choke point. (usually on the opposite side of a body of water where the tracks are found. Preferably near a dirt path) and just flare the bottleneck. I found that just running ahead a good distance and doing this was much easier and faster then trying to guess where the end of the trail was.
Hope this will help soomeone. Good luck and happy hunting.

I just tamed this exotic beauty at 2PM on Wyrmrest Accord-US.
After spending an hour or so hopelessly looking for the tracks, I decided to follow the advice I found here and chose a couple of spots to sit at and spam Flare. Unsure of whether or not he had even spawned at all (sat at the beginning of the route for awhile) I finally ended up where Patrannache crosses the road directly South of the Pools of Purity (No co-ords addon handy, sorry).
I sat there for only a few minutes, set off a few flares and set my NPCscan to boom when he spawned. He popped up, and I immediately marked him, had a target/tame macro ready, and he was mine. He did not attack me, he actually kept walking away from me!
One curious thing to note was that his nameplate was grey during the tame, as if someone else had tagged it. Nobody was around and obviously I had aggro to complete the tame, so I am not sure what happened there.
Immediately after taming I started looking for tracks. It took more than a few minutes for me to locate one, just behind the spawn point. Even standing right beside it with my settings reduced I could barely see it. I STRONGLY suggest rotating or camping some mob-free spots rather than trying to find these. If I had been looking for him rather than Flare-spamming he would have strolled right past me.
I'll see if I can upload a screenshot!

As of October 23rd, 2012 the tracks are still backwards.
I decided to track him down the hard/fun way. I found and lost his tracks on two different occasions before I was able to flare him out. All three times I found his tracks, I had the best luck starting from his eastern endpoint, and following him to the west.
First time, I found his tracks at the silken fields, but lost them because of a dungeon queue.
Second time, I found his tracks just north of Nesingwary's Safari, but lost him because of phasing around Stoneplow.
For the time that I did get him, I spotted the first track at the south-east path out of Halfhill, and followed him north through the marsh. I was a little surprised at how I missed any of the tracks, because I was moving opposite of his path. But once you find that first one, the rest aren't too difficult to see!
When you flare him out, if you're not IN the flare with him, he won't aggro. When you mark him, you can follow right on top of him, and he won't aggro. He won't even aggro when you start to tame, so make sure to start your tame close to him, or he could walk out of your range.
The only way he'll aggro is if you attack him, or if you're in the flare with him.

Didnt even have to follow any tracks, I just parked my big pandaren butt at 28.0, 55.8, put down a freezing trap, popped a flare, and waited. I was in luck, roughly 30 secounds later Patrannache appeared in my flare + trap. Easy tame.
Happy hunting!

Just got this little lady. Spent about an hour following tracks and losing them again because they drop a little strangely and are quite hard to spot in some places. After having a hard time tracking her around the river crossing below the brewery, I finally followed the advice of one of the previous comments by going to 25,50 and spamming flare in the little ravine there. Had to wait around half an hour for her to finally walk around to me, but she popped up and I marked and tamed. Hello sexy new pink birdy (:
If you want to try tracking Patrannache then I suggest
this
website for a very clearly marked layout of her walk path.

Patrannache has the longest path of all the trackable Pandaria hunter pets (1hr 38 minutes from end to end) and imo the toughest tracks to hunt down. They are very tiny and really blend in to the surroundings. (This pet is totally worth the effort though!)
If you don't mind spoilers, I've got a full map of his exact path in this wowhead
guide to all of the new Pandaria hunter pets

Just tamed him at 80:48 in Hydraxis at 11pm realm time, at level 87. I found his tracks twice before I found him. The third time I found his tracks, I got killed by the cranes in the pools of purity. So I ran back to my body to find the tracks gone. Discouraged, I amost gave up. Instead, I remembered which direction his footprints were going (backwards of course). So what I did was go down to almost the end of his route, about 80:48 coordinates, and spammed flare and freezing trap until he popped up and I tamed him.
I recommend that once you find his tracks, go quite awhile farther along his path in the same direction, and sit there and spam flare. It's just too hard otherwise.
Very tricky, but so worth it. What a beautiful bird!
EDIT: Another hint if you're looking for tracks - turn down the ground clutter all the way to LOW. It's near impossible to see them otherwise!

Just tamed this lovely crane on Thunderhorn @ 3:58am server time.
I looked for the footprints two days straight and couldn't find anything. I just got done doing my dailies and was headed towards Valley of the Four Winds to get my Glorious! achievement when I came across the tracks at halfhill. I followed them and lost the footprints twice because of the despawn, looked on wowhead and followed the trail. I finally caught up to the tracks once again and tamed the crane over by the elite mushan. Sorry I don't have the exact cords, got way too excited.
Happy hunting for those still looking.

Just found him on Cenarius as a level 86 hunter at 7:25 CST today. I started at his start point and tracked him as many others have. Just below Stormstout Brewery, I found my first set of tracks and proceeded to lose them until I got to the lake around Nesinwary's camp thanks to no flight yet and all of the foxes attacking me. From there, I followed them and found him just outside of Stoneplow. I'm pretty excited about this pretty little bird. Now to think of a name. :D

Tamed him @ 5.54pm on Dreadmaul US. 63.64.
Started to track two footprints from right up at Singing Marshes, headed left, down the hillside at about 23.39. Lost track. Found more prints way down on the other side of the Brewery, so it was traveling anti-clockwise. Tracked footprints in a right direction on the other side of the river down there, over the river going north then back over the right side of the river just as in the route here:
http://www.wowhead.com/guide=1293/rare-pandaria-hunter-pets#tabs-name-valley-of-the-four-winds
I was waiting on the patch of grass on the top of the little hill, below the Silken Fields, below the bottom third house on the map. Your map says you're in the Yan-Zhe River, and it was at 63.64 co-ordinates.

The tracks do despawn over time, so if you can see the tracks, you aren't too far away.
I lost them the first time I found them while I search to find out what they were for. When I picked the trail back up, the first track I found despawned in front of me, and I wasn't near any phased zones as far as I know.
Followed the path from Silken Fields, and managed to get the tame right at the Zhu's Descent end point.

Tamed Patrannache at 54, 75 near sleeping wolves. Just walked around area spamming flares and he magically appeared. Put hunter's mark on him so he wouldn't despawn, abandoned current pet, and tamed. He was walking away from me all the time I was trying to tame him and I was afraid he would move out of range, but he didn't.
Moves very slowly, very easy to tame. Although I was looking closely, there were no visible footprints at all.

Tamed this beautiful bird at around 7:20 server time on Wyrmrest Accord. I raced around the map for about 3 hours, trailing its twisting and wandering path, never once finding a single track. After much reading I decided to try a tactic that seemed to work for other hunters: I parked my butt at a spawn point (in this cast at 28,55) and spammed flare and ice trap. I waited a total of maybe 2 or 3 minutes and there she was! Very easy tame, and for me the name was easy to come up with since I have a Greek mythology theme with all of my pets. Her new name is Aphrodite :)

Finally tamed on Dawnbringer around 9:06 pm server time.
I took the advice of those on this thread; after not finding a single track around; I parked myself in the between the mountains (ya know .. where the one annoying goat walks back and forth) and waited for about and hour and a half. I told myself that I was going to wait 30 more min. before giving up (it was already 10:00pm) and BAM! She was here. I was so nervous I forgot where my Hunters Mark was! So I had to keep popping flares down when he would fade out of them but I finally got her!
I really do recommend just camping her out - it worked out for me since I'm a lower-pop server so there was no competition; she is a beautiful creature and definitely worth the wait! I'll post a screenshot as well :)

I took the advice given by several other people from the posts, about a good spot to park your character down below the brewery, right on the bank, and within a few hours he was mine!
About a week later I was helping a family member obtain him, showing them where to stay, keep the flare out in this spot, and to keep it out at all times, the second they logged out to leave, the bird came out of the shadows from the flare I was demonstrating with! xD ... immediate hunters mark, duel-cliented stabled their pet and NOTICED something....
While I had hunter's mark on him with my hunter, their hunter could not see him until I pulled him out of stealth with a flare of theirs and marked him. Thank you blizzard for not letting other people see nor kill us hunter's soon-to-be pets! So.... also keep it in mind that you do not have to worry if some warrior flies by, they won't see your pet- they will just see you flailing around with hearts and a taming rod and think none the wiser! lol
good luck and happy hunting fellow hunters!

I feel like an absolute IDIOT. I found this gorgeous pink crane tonight at 1:30 PM server time (Aman Thul) and lost her! I was staked out by the Stormstout Brewery by the big paddlewheel, spamming flares, and fishing. Suddenly she appeared! She was larger than I expected--a really big girl. I was so shocked, I neglected to put the hunter's mark on her, and was fumbling around dismissing my pet. I set flares as quickly as the cooldown would let me, but to my dismay, she got away. I flew to a spot further north and kept spamming flare to no avail. I am heartbroken. I'll try again in a few hours and hope for the best. I hope none of you readers are as lame as I was. Good luck!

I just tamed him (Dec 7th 2012) and can confirm that
as of Patch 5.1, his tracks still point backwards
, as was posted on Petopia forums:
(forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=18527)
As of patch 5.1, pawprints (Savage, Bloodtooth, Bristlespine, Stompy, Rockhide, Portent) lead FORWARDS and clawprints (Glimmer, Patrannache, Hexapos) lead BACKWARDS. For backwards tracks, instead of following the toes, you follow the back of the prints to the next fresh one. This is counter-intuitive and will hopefully change in the future, since the pawprints are now correct. Bombyx's tracks have no front or back, so none of this applies to him.

Just thought I'd share this: I'm the reason Patrannache no longer aggros. This is due to an incident on Fizzcrank, caused by yours truly.
Because I dragged her into the Halfhill market, someone must have put in a ticket that very moment (and had a response within a few hours) because I found myself unable to do this to the bird the VERY next time she spawned.
I should have posted this sooner, figuring someone else might mention it, but no one has, so here are the changes:
1. Patrannache (and probably the rest of them?) no longer aggros. You can kill her for the Tear, but she won't attack you nor chase after you. I've even tried Distracting Shot. Taunting her will not work.
2. Patrannache (again, probably the rest too?) no longer turns visible to all when Marked or Flared. Even another Hunter can't see it, just because you can.
Not sure if the second is due to me or not, but I am sure the first is, and the second wasn't always the case, so there you go. There's a very slim possibility it was the case, and the one who killed her in the market simply targeted my target or used some other ability to get sight of her.

Tamed 01/03/2013 @ 12:28pm CST on Deathwing.
Important details
bolded
for hunters in a hurry.
I got him in the little ravine @ approximately
26,50
. Saw the footprints over by where his path goes straight--near his spawn point--just west of Halfhill. His tracks were pointing West, so I ran East since other posts have said they point the direction opposite of where he's going. Spammed flare a few times, couldn't find any trace of him; no new tracks, nothing. So I ran back West, hoping to find the tracks still there since other posts have said that the
tracks remain visible for several minutes
, and they do. I found them, mounted up and ran up to my ravine. I spent maybe 5 minutes waiting for him, spamming flare and he walked right into it. NPC scan went off,
tagged him with Hunter's Mark because if you do not, even if you are mid-tame, when he walks out of your flare he will disappear again.
I can confirm that his
tracks
DO
point the correct direction now
.
Also: the tracks really are quite small, but if you have your stuff set for a high resolution, and the lowest setting for ground clutter, you can see them. They're just easily disguised, and as others have mentioned, not a constant track. As my friend put it, "they're about the size of a gnome's foot."
Good luck & happy hunting!

Of all of the hard to find hunter pets, this one, Glimmer and Bombyx are the hardest to find. This one specially for some obvious reasons: He's in a zone with a lot of players (which means he can be capped by someone else and you're left there wondering if you're just not lucky enough to find him or if someone already tamed him), he leaves tracks that are very hard to find because of the ground, and he sometimes skips a footprint or two, so you're left there in the middle of nowhere wondering if you're taking the wrong turn.
Glimmer is only hard due to phasing, since most of his path is on a phased zone. Bombyx is only hard because unlike other footprints, his don't show "fingers" which makes it hard to know which way he's going. Other than that, worth the tame on all those bad boys.

I'll post a screenshot with this, including the barely-visible tracks. Btw, I can also confirm that the tracks are still pointing the other direction opposite to where Patrannache is heading.

Does this bird's name not bring to mind the name of the colourful plainstrider found at Mulgore, Mazzranache? Patra meaning patron (father/male) and Maz meaning matron (mother/female). Odd couple if you ask me, but given they're both fowl I can't complain. Maybe we can hook them up with a blind date and see where things to from there.

I can confirm as of patch 5.1 (10th Jan 2013), that Patrannache's footprints
are still backwards
. This was supposed to be fixed but I can assure you it isn't. I tamed him ages ago, but spent an hour straining to see footprints to help a guildie tame this lovely creature today.
This is in contrast to
Portent
, whose footprints now face in the
correct direction
. I am not sure of the other rares, but Portent is fixed and Patrannache is still backwards.
There are a couple of posts here that state it is fixed and Patrannache's footprints now face the correct direction. This is 100% false. If you follow them facing forwards, (like you'd expect in real life), you will start to see them despawn very quickly. This is because your crane is marching in the opposite direction!
Hope that helps

Just tamed Patrannache and encountered several heart sinking moments. Not only is tracking difficult, but the majority of the tracks I encountered where in the air. The first was obviously the amount of time it took in tracking (Good job Blizz, I love the challenge). The second would be when I finally spotted this bright pink bird in all of its glory, only to see the health bar greyed out (my heart sank a little). Crossing my fingers, I hit it with my arcane shot, tossed my freezing trap and rejoiced when I finally calmed down enough to hit my tame beast... Only to have Patrannache despawn before my very eyes (my flare was still active)! Yup. Gone. Poof. Not even a feather left. I died a little inside. I frantically started throwing flares, and rejoiced when I saw his beautiful, pink plumage pop up again. The difficulties I encountered during this tame makes it even more worth it. Good luck in your hunt, I hope it goes much smoother for the rest of you.

1) set MSBT triggers to sound when Flare cooldown was complete.
2) add Patrannache to NPC scan
3) watch tv on second monitor
4) cast flare each time it dings
5) actually look at the monitor when NPC scan rumbles
6) cast Hunter's Mark on Patrannache
7) tame crane
I stood at 71.9,57.4 (in the water) and set the flair in front of me right where he walks out of/into the creek. Took just a little over an hour.

TWICE

only to get lost because the tracks, even after flying around and fighting countless mobs, I could not find the others and figure out which direction he was heading.
It does not help that some people say to follow them backwards and others say that it's fixed.
I spent 4 hours tracking this guy. Going back and forth to all the locations he has been spotted. I've only found his tracks in this location...and both times I've lost him.
It's kind of discouraging, but I refuse to give up. I'm going to keep looking for this guy even if it kills me.
EDIT: Alright...so after 1 hour and 50 minutes, plus camping at

I found this guys prints around stormstout brewery.... after going mental because I lost his track about 30 times, I finally found him at exactly 63.4, 38,6. Took me about 20 minutes to find him.
Just a few things to help you track him:
- The tracks he leaves can be a few minutes old, and he may be no where near them by time you see them.
- Tracks still point backwards as of 7th feb, however, they only indicate which way he was facing when he made them. They may be facing east and you find the next one north of that.
- Tracks are *usually* about 15 yards apart
- If you lose his tracks, have a look at this map for his rough path. or flare like crazy, haha.
- He typically avoids roads and steep ramps. So remember to flare on smooth inclines and ramps.
- His pace is around about walking pace on your toon, so that should gauge it for you.
- Always have flare on CD! It doesn't hurt! Mine was a lucky flare!
- Also, he doesn't attack you when you start taming him, so he can walk out of your flare and restealth. So Put a hunter's mark on him.
I just gotta think of a name for him now. =D

Tracks still pointing backwards as of today's (2/25/13) tame. Map in this

helps to fill in the gaps of the exact path. It takes about
90 minutes to complete a one-way trek
from end to end.
Tracks are visible for around 15 minutes
, I believe.
Found a track (NW of the Heartland - extreme NW part of overall route), determined direction and moved to about where I thought he'd be in 10 minutes from that track (he was heading toward HalfHill). Got him around 35, 60. Not 'easy' by any means; I'd just look for a track here n' there while farming, etc. Try to stay positive and enjoy the challenge! Added comment to provide times.

I found her today around 1:30 central time on Cenarius. I think I got pretty lucky due to the fact I found the tracks just before the end of the line they were hard to follow but the strange thing was they started to appear both ways so I knew she was pretty close. I honestly couldn’t find or follow the windy path in that section in-front of the brewery so I simply went to the point on the map with the rock near by the path and just cheesed it and kept placing a flare. Next thing you know she appears. Very happy I caught her there.

I think Blizzard must've changed how the tracks work on this rare. The tracks now seem to point in the correct direction instead of in reverse. After spending hours following the tracks backwards, I noticed that the most "rearward" track had already disappeared while the one that should've disappeared first, if the tracks were reversed, was still there. I confirmed this by parking at the river, near Stormstout Brewery, where it flows into Krasarang, and sure enough, when she appeared, she was getting ready to cross the water in the very direction the footprints were pointing.

57,70
. It took approximately 2.5 hours of waiting at the same spot with continual flare. Hunters, be sure to put
Hunter's Mark
on him as soon as he steps into your flare, because as soon as you start taming him, he'll just keep walking! He'll walk right out of your flare and interrupt your tame. Then he'll disappear, leaving you panicked.
Steps to tame him:
1)
Go to 57,70 or a similar spot (check out the map on Petopia's video -

)
2)

4)
Tame peacefully, as he is not an aggro'd pet.

method, I found this to be the best spot after farming him for a few weeks.
No chance of missing him because the path he walks is such a tight spot, very easy to sit and wait, close to his spawn point, and since he walks up the hill, you know which way to face.
Posted a picture of the capture and flare point.

I used the 'stay in one place and repetitively flare' tactic.
I'd tried a few times but always lost patience but decided 'today is my day' and sat still for over 30 minutes. To help pass the time I'd started killing and skinning any unlucky animals to come my way (while still throwing up flares, what a pro lol) and just started skinning something when a great big pink crane showed up!
So I wasn't someone to follow or even see his tracks, but after hunter's mark-ing him and taming at I am now the proud owner of Patrannache. (I thought this was a good place to camp as there wasn't anything for me to worry about aggro-ing)

does he start out near half-hill or does he spawn at that mountain thing near the eastern part of the zone? Just curious. I have yet to see his tracks at either after a server reset or maintenance, so I might just be unlucky. :(

I'd like to point out that Patrannache's
Trick
will cause him to slightly jump forward when you use it (when he is in a 'Move To' position and NOT following you. Following you will cause him just to run back to you if he leaps too far away).
So, if you're like me and like to spam this, let me save you the trouble and say that
he does not willingly jump off cliffs and/or other drop-down points.
However, you are still free to make him chase random people and repeatedly perform his trick at them. Yay!

After patch 5.4 Patrannache is no longer the only moddel with the pink color.
There are pink cranes on Timeless Isle

that are tameable.

Keep in mind that he is extremely slow. I followed his tracks through half the zone before I decided to put a flare at 77.50, exactly on one of his tracks because I knew he would soon turn and walk back through my flare. I didn't check the time, I was too busy staring at the tracks, but the old tracks disappeared shortly before Patrannache came back.

I tamed him today at around 9:32pm Server Time on Argent Dawn (EU)
I started out trying to find his tracks, but had no luck. I followed his path around twice, and never came across a single track. After almost giving up, I decided to camp out and set my flare up 100% of the time. After almost around 30 minutes, he wandered through my flare; he was walking east, and I confirmed that his tracks were visible where he had been walking from, and they were facing the correct way.
He just keeps on walking without becoming aggressive, even when you start to tame him. As soon as he walks through your flare, you will have to have Hunter's Mark ready to place on him, then tame him.
Such a beautiful bird, and fits my character so well. Good luck to anyone trying to tame him!
If you are on the same server, I will gladly help anyone who asks for it. :)

Hey there, just thought I'd put up my own observations of this little brat.
- his tracks are teeny tiny, very hard to see, but they are a tan color, lighter than the other rare spawn tracks. I had to turn up my graphics to see them.
- unlike some of the other spawns, he walks VERY slow, I found his tracks and was in a panic cause I couldn't find the next set. Some flare spam later and backtracking and I tagged him.
There are several maps of his patrol route, but most I've found missed an area or turn, I used this video and learned his route then checked it every so often:

Hope it helps!

This guys' prints must be extremely hard to spot. Either that, or he is an extremely rare spawn. I play really late at night, and I've managed to get every other "invisible tame," including all four Quilen skins. I have only seen one single footprint of his one time, and it vanished three seconds after I saw it. Been stalking him for two weeks and nothing.

Used TomTom & Paste addons and started at the east end of his path on foot. Got lucky and, around the second or third waypoint, I spotted his first print (they aren't exactly on the waypoint, just scan the area around you as move, because they are hard to spot and there are alot of "almost prints" naturally occurring in the area). And his prints are frontwards, in respect to his path, as they should be (toes pointing forward). Finally put his prints and he together in the middle of the farmers' shaghorn herds, just northwest of Sunsong Ranch. Took less than an hour (lucky me).

Found him just under the Stoneplow FP. Tracked him the old-fashion way; without the aid of an add-on. Took about an hour to narrow down the search area, found and lost his tracks about 3 times in that time frame.

Hi! I just tamed Patrannache on Shattered Halls (EU). Got him on spot 25/52. Took me only 10 min to get :D so i guess i was in luck!.
Although i added patrannache into npcscan before, but npc scan diddnt shout when i saw him. Very weird i added the npc id from petopia and choose pandaria and typed in his exact name but nothing happned. Anyone knows why?
Thought this could be of interest for people trying to spot tame him.
I found him at 16:53 eu time.

i used the stand still method described. i stood exactly at and kept flare up 100%. it took about a hour, not too bad really. BUT...when i popped it out of stealth then applied hunters mark, then trap dow...and finally "tame"...it didnt come towards me! i thought something was wrong. so i stopped tame, ran up closer and retried. it worked just fine but it never came toward me during the tame process...just right after....
and of coarse it came across my path as i was fight off a couple grainhunters, lol

Set flare and Freezing Trap at 25,50. This is a narrow choke point along the bird's patrol path.
Began stakeout at 6:03 server time. Bird appeared at 7:11. Easily tamed from that point on. If your flare goes out and s/he vanishes, don't panic - provided you have a trap up s/he'll set it off and will still be there when you pop another flare. Mark just to be certain.
Yes, I realize that the same skin exists on the cranes in Timeless Isle. Call it OCD, I wanted this rare, even if no one else knows the difference. ;)

I just finished collecting all of these hidden Pandaria pets, this being the last one (and by far the most difficult). I tracked down every single one of them by finding the tracks and following them, but this bird's path is just too long and I could never find a track to save my life. I ended up camping a spot I was sure it would pass through and kept a flare up at all times. Took about 10 min of waiting and he finally showed up. After catching him I decided to see if I could even find his tracks and it's no wonder they're called "barely-visible." I highly recommend camping this one...good luck.

I was able to find and tame all the other hidden pets quite easily, but this one definitely is the most difficult, primarily because his tracks are hard to follow since his path has a lot of twists and turns. I downloaded an addon called Routes so I could follow his path easily on the minimap, which I do suggest because if you don't know which direction he's heading next you will lose him easily. After following his tracks nearly half across the map, I finally found him underneath Stormstout Brewery.

So I only realized this bird was
not
rare
when he finally walked through my flare.. an elite is so not worth the wait but his ability
"Gift of Chi-Ji"
makes it worth the wait I suppose considering it is a resurrection for players; I used it in battle so sounds like it's a battle resurrection. But I found him at
(57, 70)
also put a picture up (picture 29) with me standing in the spot facing where I put the flare non - stop until he showed up, I did find him 45 minutes prior but I lost him when I had trouble following the steps since I read an out of date post that is very up voted that says his tracks point in the opposite direction he is walking which in fact they
DO NOT
point in the opposite direction he is walking they were fixed in a patch in
2013
so his tracks
point in the direction he
IS
going
, this made me almost give up trying to find him about a minute prior to taming him. His foot prints are quite easy to see though, if you put all your settings to "low" in graphics; if he leaves your flare before you finish "tame beast" it will cancel your tame and you must re-flare before you lose him and start taming again, this happened to me and I almost had a heart attack. I also added more photos, one of me and a player standing with a
tamed
Patrannache showing where the
"barely visible track"
is to show where Patrannache is
compared to his last visible track.

UPDATE as of WoD 01/01/2015
So let's
UPDATE this for WoD
and sum the stuff already posted.
-As of now, there is NO DIFFERENCE between Pat and the one on Timeless Isle,
Brilliant Windfeather
. I decided to find and tame Pat anyway because of the
Lullabye
talent specified above, but Pat no longer has this - he has the same talents. I've sent a LOUD complaint to the service desk asking if they meant to do this, let's see if I get three free days of play time.
-Use the coords posted below with TomTom addon and your minimap open to find tracks. The on-screen arrow was too crazy for me with all those points, but having the map open with the quest panel minimized worked well.
-/tar Barely-visible tracks does NOT find tracks, bummer. Minimize ground clutter in your interface, and follow the direction the toes are facing, the footprints are NO LONGER backward and haven't been for a long time.
-I used SilverDragon which does not need the cache to be cleared, but of course we don't have Hunter's Mark anymore so these Pandaria tames are MUCH harder. I'd suggest finding a set of tracks and then setting up camp either at the narrow pass on the way up into the marsh (around 23, 39) or where he enters the lake on the east end of his path (around 59, 70).
-The hardest thing here is patience, because until you've seen him you have no idea how fast he moves. So you find some tracks, fly ahead 1000 yards and set up shop with flare and wait for a half-hour, you start to wonder if you saw old tracks and he's way past you already or if he's slow as heck and not to you yet. Patience is the key.
-I caught him on the narrow throat into the upper marsh, and kept laying down a
Flare
with
Trap Launcher
turned on with
Freezing Trap
. As soon as he wandered into the flare, I popped the trap right in front of his arse and tamed him quickly. It took hours to find him bu the methodology worked very well.
Unless you're a total nerd like me, just go to Timeless Isle, there is no difference in talents between the two models :(
Happy hunting!

Just tamed at 10:40pm EST. Took an hour and 40 minutes. I believe the full cycle for the path is 2 hours. I used Flare and Ice Trap constantly. Coord...26,49. there is a path and farmed at the smallest space. Good Luck. I will post a couple pictures.

So this was my first time looking for a rare pet and I got SOOOO lucky I sat right at about 49 , 48 right in the middle of the lil valley next to the halfhill road and the other raised terrain near all the cattle npcs. and spammed my flare ability. about 10 min later there he was. now I wasn't aware that I couldn't aggro the mob at level 40 with my punches (as I really didnt want to 1 shot the elite lvl 35 rare mob) in current patch and or cant aggro these pets in general, I really don't know how it works. so I lost track of him and continued up the path and repeated this strategy till I finally tamed it around 70 , 55 as I knew which way it was walking. if you are unaware I had to tame it while the flare is up or tame would cancel. maybe theres a better strat for more experienced players but hey you gotta do what you gotta do.
good luck if you are looking for this i got mega lucky this mobs walking path takes like an hour and a half to complete so you could maybe expect to wait 45 min to an hour for it to get halfway through its pathing and show up so patience is key

The footprints are small and they match most of the terrain. They are bird foot shaped so basically three slim lines. He also stops leaving footprints in random areas. I have 20/5 eyesight and the footprints were hard to spot as well as the way my vision picks apart detail so it doesn't exactly pop off the screen for me as if it has shadow highlights around the print, I just see the detail. I had to find the pattern and then follow it so when they vanished I had to spend more time trying to learn to recognize the prints and follow.
I found a map of the path this guy wanders and I didn't know how to put that map into my own map in the game. I saw he would stick to one path and even when the prints weren't visible I just followed his prints over and over even when they vanished id walk the same path until they showed up. The prints were also delayed as other pets that you tame this way, you see them spawn and suddenly when you go ahead you see the prints way up ahead like the crane is powerwalking. I eventually just stalked him this way until I caught him in a flare and then the chase ensued.
So, what worked for me was to follow the path and watch the floor and learn his movements. If his path changes, to know when that happens and go to the area he is supposed to be at. You can alter your graphics so the ground clutter shows up more than anything else and even the lighting and contrast so that when the footprints are being made you notice sooner. This isn't just with this beast, all the ones you track and tame are like this, maybe this can help someone who after a different one.
This is me without any in-game map changes or waypoints and with advanced eyesight that can make it so I notice movement over the actual defined print of the foot the crane leaves. Good luck to anyone after pets right now. Hope something from my experience can aid in farming.

Just wanted to leave a comment as a hunter if someone is farming him - his end point is the small mountain in the right corner (down).
Freezing trap does not stop him, as well as an attack - better take another hunter with you,
because when the Flare ends, you are loosing him even if you cast tame beast. I tamed him with my bf, we casted Flare one after another so I had time to tame him. It is tricky, but possible. Good luck!
