Special Events in Torghast
Torghast will have some special events during the expansion. The third one will be Unbridled Darkness, the week from the 9 to the 15 of March 2021, according to calendar inside of the game.

Your
first Anima Orb
will offer you a third Anima Power:

Unbridled Darkness is a buff that you can get which removes your vision in exchange for damage and movement bonuses.
When in a
2 player party
or more, it adds a 4th option to the first Anima Orb
失控黑暗
. This will automatically activate and deactivate the Darkness every 5 kills.
失控黑暗
. Darkness envelops you every 5 kills, causing you to be completely unable to view your surroundings. While under this effect, your damage and healing done is increased by 150% and your movement speed in increased by 50%. This effect is only removed when you kill 5 more enemies. You will NOT be able to enter or leave the darkness manually.
无拘黑暗之瓶
. Release the darkness for 15 sec, causing you to be completely unable to view your surroundings. While under this effect, your damage and healing done is increased by 50% and your movement speed in increased by 30%. 90 sec cooldown.
无拘黑暗合剂
. Release the darkness for 30 sec, causing you to be completely unable to view your surroundings. While under this effect, your damage and healing done is increased by 75% and your movement speed in increased by 30%.
When you pick this ability, you:
Will add all the Unbridled Darkness Anima Powers listed below into pool.
Get an
extra action button
. It will completely cover your screen in Darkness (UI still visible). During this time you'll get a 75% damage increase and a 30% movement speed increase but cannot click off the buff.
The special event Anima Powers (all buff you
when you're under the effect
of Unbridled Darkness) that are be mixed into the pool if you choose to participate:
窒息暗影香炉
release a wave of magic every 5 sec, inflicting (100% of Spell power) Shadow damage to enemies within 10 yds.
黑暗之身
killing an enemy unit extends its duration by 5 sec. Unbridled Darkness is automatically removed from you while out of combat.
甜腻黑暗之球
you have 20% increased Mastery and 20% increased Critical Strike Chance.
阴影收割者
If you and an ally within 5 yds are both under the effects of Unbridled Darkness, you heal for 15% of your maximum health every 1 sec.
堆积的雕刻品
Your damage done is increased by 100% if you and an ally within 5 yds are both under the effects of Unbridled Darkness.
奇异无形钥匙
you take 30% less damage from area of effect attacks.

your time flows 30% faster.

you lash out at the nearest enemy OR player within 5 yds every 2 sec inflicting (400% of Spell power) Shadow damage.

your attacks have a chance to cause a dark explosion and inflict (200% of Spell power) Shadow damage as well as blind enemies within 5 yds of your target for 6 sec.
Rewards
It's still unknown if there will be rewards from this event. As of today the event is considered as a reward in it's own.

Uncontrolled Darkness
is absolutely horrible!

This ability is offered on the first Anima Orb when entering during the
Torghast: Unbridled Darkness
event
and is only offered in parties of 2 or more
. Darkness automatically activates/deactivates every 5 kills. When in Darkness, your screen goes black, but you are still able to see your UI, as can be seen in this

Just completed Layer 8
Mort'regar
in a 4-man group during this event, and I was the only idiot (thankfully) who decided to try out the "fun" new offerings. I chose
Uncontrolled Darkness
, which I thought would be better than the other item,
Flask of Unbridled Darkness
(surely getting 5 kills would be quick and easy...) What I didn't realize was that the Flask was actually a "use" item allowing you to control when you got thrust into Darkness. The Flask is definitely the way to go if you want to experience this event.
First, there's bad puddles and swirlies getting thrown out pretty much constantly. I ended up having to mostly stand still when Darkness came for fear of falling off a ledge or being knocked back due to standing in a swirl. Being able to heal myself was absolutely necessary (even if it was just passively by
Ysera's Gift
.) I also chose
Tollar's Hidden Flask of Fortification
,
Obleron Endurance
,
Curious Miasma
,
Protective Phantasma
, and
Defiance of Death
from the Anima Orbs I was able to actually access. If you choose to give any of the Darkness traits a go, I would suggest you aim for similar powers.
Second, even though I purchased the new
Broker Traversal Enhancer
from
Ve'nari
in order to skip out on tight-walking the chains, I would always get thrown into Darkness right before the group came upon any chains. Unable to see the clickable portal that was always dangerously close to the edge, I ended up having to put myself on follow with one of my group members (who thankfully didn't have the
Broker Traversal Enhancer
yet, so he had to go across the chains the old-fashioned way) in order to get across the necessary chains. I wouldn't have been able to continue on my own as there were no other mobs in the area to kill to remove the Darkness, and there's one specific section where you have to go across 2 chain-paths to continue on the run. I skipped out on all the chains that were for bonus items or rare mobs, as it would have taken too long to run back and grab things as the rest of the group moved on.
Last, my DPS suffered greatly due to me not being able to see where it was safe to go or where there were mobs to target (when Tab wasn't able to reach any hostile.) Target of target helped, but again, many times I was out of range. It was essential for me to stick close to a group member/keep myself on follow when I was getting close to my 5th into-Darkness kill. If you are too far away, the group's kills won't count towards your 5 coming-out-of-Darkness kills. Druid abilities that helped, due to their AoE nature/splash damage (pretty much every one of my spells):
Convoke the Spirits
(Night Fae ability),
Starfall
,
Fury of Elune
,
Force of Nature
, and
Twin Moons
talent. Anima Powers I chose in addition to the defensive ones listed above:
Censer of Suffocating Shadows
,
Writhing Shadow-Tendrils
, and
Sands of Desperation
(although I'm not sure I noticed the effects of this one).
Note:
- You
can
fall/get knocked off of the many ledges.
- If you are too far away from the mobs being killed, they won't count towards your 5 needed to come out of Darkness.
- Darkness resets between floors; if you go to the next floor while afflicted with Darkness, you will again be able to see when you come through.

This was not fun. At all. Chose

and I basically one-shot the other person in my party while I was standing next to them in darkness, out of combat. They rezzed, ran back to me so I could follow them (since they were NOT in darkness) and I promptly one-shotted them again without any action on my part. That was the last straw. We left.

As a solo healer, Flask of unbridled darkness + damage dealing bonuses are really overtuned. The final boss dies in less than 3 seconds on layer 8 with 195 ilvl.

I don't get it. Why is there a Vial and a Flask? Why would you ever want the Vial?
I've done this several times. Doing it with a tanking pet (lock or hunter) is a no brainer. Doing it with a melee all depends on the last boss and of course you don't know who the boss is until you pick it. One of the bosses that runs around or moves a lot would be near impossible. Basically, as melee, you just want to nuke the final boss down.
I'm not sure as a mage or spriest (pure caster). Basically you'd have to tank the last boss you'd think which would be a race to kill him before he reaches you and kills you.
An example of how complicated this can get, I was doing it on my WW monk. I targeted the boss, activated my Xuen and Storm,Earth and Fire and then hit the
无拘黑暗合剂
. But the Xuen repositioned the boss a little and I was no longer facing him, so I thought I was screwed (because you can't see where he is to reposition). However I was lucky and he wasn't far and I just had to turn a little (I just guessed) and I downed him in a matter of seconds. Could have easily not known where to face and the boss could have just destroyed me while I couldn't even have hit him.

I created an account just to post that I LOVED THIS EVENT as a mage with a tank/melee friend. I chose the vial/flask which let us gather large groups of mobs, chain pull them to keep the buff going, and I just NUKED them down as I collected more powers. You can still see the damage numbers when you hit them so I was able to see how close the mobs were, drop blizzard and tab target. Clearly not a good option for many, but wanted to share my experience!

It's very touchy, especially in Mort'regar. Lots of times I'd activate the flask and it would go away immediately, more so in the hallways and tight places.

and similar powers, as you might expect - do not seem to work solo. Summoning a steward will not change that.
