The final boss for the tier .5 quest line, he is relatively hard to fight with a 10 man UBRS group.

Valthalak is a gimmick fight: hard to learn, but once learned it's easy.
Groups learning Valthalak will focus too much energy on dealing with swarms of Spectral Assassins in Phase 1 instead of focusing on the 2 things that are most important:
1) Keep his mana at zero.
2) Have no more than 2 people in close range of him, whenever possible.
If Valthalak's mana is at zero constantly, he won't cast his devastating chain-lightning that increases exponentially in damage the more people it hits and heals him for the same amount. Mages, hunters or rogues should be able to deal with whatever Spectral Assassins that spawn almost on their own, as long as they know how to stun and interrupt, so the rest of the group can give steady DPS to him until he reaches 40% and enters Phase 2.

It is impossible to trinket out of the stun, although using the PvP trinket during the stun will invoke the cooldown.

Successful soloed him as T7 Retr Pal
Keep consecrations on always, those assassins spawned near you and easily killed by consecrations even if you were stunned

If you're looking to solo/duo this, it is possible, as long as you can deal with the adds somehow quickly. As you fight him, spam tab or create a macro "/target spectral assassin" and you MUST get both assassins DoTed or moonfired, consecrated or whatever method you can to ensure they will die within 10 seconds. Pet classes have an easier time soloing, because if you can get a spell off on 1 assassin, either you or your pet will be free to kill the other. The assassins have about 1.4k hp, so if you have an instant cast aoe that does that much, that would be excellent as well.

Solo'd him as a Ret Paladin in mostly heroic gear and two pieces of T7. As long as you bubble out of the stun beams which basically kill you, you'll be fine.

A prot warrior's Shockwave doesn't cool down fast enough to save you here. Nor will Battlechicken/Dragonling help, as they stay on the boss instead. Damage shield will only kill the one that isn't channeling the spell and is meleeing you instead.
Fricking gimmicked unsoloable bosses >:( At least I had a paladin buddy with consecrate willing to come and get his LBRS Lunar Coin at the same time.

Just solo'd as Protection Paladin. Shadow Resist Aura, Blessing of Sanctuary, Seal of Wisdom, Judge light. As soon as his minions spawn, Hammer of the Righteous them down before they can stun you - Then judge light, holy shield, shield of the righteous.
Phase 2: Avenging Wrath and blow him up.
Tough fight.

Soloed as a level 80 Affliction Lock in almost all 25 man loot. Simply Drop an Infernal and nuke as fast as you can. I Hellfired once or twice so me or my pet didn't get stunned. Phase 2 pop healthstone get DoTs back up fast and spam drain life. My attempt was close but pulled it out.

Very straightforward to solo as an 80 elemental shaman. Drop fire elemental on the pull, blow heroism and nuke him down. The elemental's aoe will take care of any assassins on you. Don't underestimate his damage in phase 2, he's boss level so don't count on any misses or resists. I pretty much spam healed myself while my elemental finished him off.

Solo'd as an 80 fury warrior with ilvl180ish blues and 3 naxx epics.
He has a decent amount of health so just pop cooldowns and burn through it, he doesnt hit too hard but i used a pot and enraged regeneration just in case when i noticed he had 120k health lol, most lvl 60 bosses have 25-40k health.

This is definitely the hardest non raid boss to try and solo from the original game, and quite possibly from TBC and WOTLK too, due to the fact that you have virtually no time at all to down those adds before defile is cast.
For rogues, it is even harder as we have no healing abilities, no bubble, no pet. However after about 10 tries, I finally got him down. Yay.
Unless you are combat specced and have Fan of Knives, forget it, you wont get the adds down no matter what you try.
Here is what I did. Equipped in nothing more than lv 200 gear.
Equip Zandalarian Hero Badge (this is the Warrior badge from the Heart of Hakkar Quest)
Equip a spec that allows FoK and Unfair Advantage from Combat spec AND Preparation from Subtlety. (Macro the Prep with Evasion) It also helps to have a glyph of evasion equipped as this will give you an extra 10 secs overall.
Drink an Indestructible potion, which gives extra armor for 2 mins.
Open up on Valthalak and immediately pop Evasion, Blade Flurry, plus a trinket for extra attack power (these should be macroed btw). Attack him for maybe 5-6 seconds then STOP because the adds will soon appear. (If you continue attacking you wont have enough energy to immediately use FoK, and it NEEDS to be immediate)
As soon as the adds appear, FoK them, then open up again on Valthalak for another 5-6 seconds and again wait for the adds. Now pop your macroed Preparation/Evasion. FoK the adds again, and re-open up on Valthalak, if he doesnt get to below 45k health V quickly now, you will need to wait for a 3rd set of adds (which appeared for me)
FoK the last set of adds and he should be below the limit which takes you to phase 2, in which the adds wont appear again. It is now essentially a dps race as to who can get who down first.
Pop your Zandalarian badge. And at about 20k health, pop Cloak of Shadows. I finished him with about 1.5k health left.
V V satisfying fight. Good luck with it.

When soloing this boss at Level 80, don't be fooled at the speed at which this guy's health goes down even with good damage output. You will be caught off-guard, like I was, when he summons Spectral Assassins to bind you and kill you after 10 seconds. The bind cannot be broken even by PVP trinkets but if the Assassin is attacked it will stop casting (or not cast it at all if it hasn't yet.) It's doable as any class; either you've got a quick and reliable AE like a Mage or Shaman, or you have a pet like a Hunter or Warlock, or your twitch skills should be good enough to hit the assassin within the half-second window like a Rogue or Warrior.
Some pointers: I suggest you turn your sound on--like it always should be, it's a useful advantage to have--to hear the Assassins as they are summoned in. Also, you can bring some
Oil Of Immolation
so that you can damage the Assassins even while you're stunned. You can use a combat pet such as
Mechanical Yeti
or
Arcanite Dragonling
(if you're an Engineer) to--hopefully--attack the Assassins while you're stunned, stopping their cast.
All in all, you're best off bringing a friend or you can waste several deaths trying to trick your way through the fight soloing it.
If completing this as a 5-player party of the appropriate level, this fight is trivial so long as you quickly kill the Assassins as they appear.

soloed as a level 70 retribution paladin in two pieces of Brutal Gladiator (
shoulder

),
Stun
Stormherald
and L70 PvP epics:
at first i was afraid of the encounter but then i read comments here and other palas were sayin' that a single cast of
Consecration
may kill the adds, so i gave it a try… to no avail. it didn't work for me as at L70 as with 2.5k AP, my Consecration only does 1.6k damage.
then i went back, because what i noticed is that
the adds
won't cast
Defile
on you as soon as they spawn
:
they even "aggro" you, saying "a-HA!" like most humanoid mobs do when they run up to you.
so, what i did is: saving GCD for the adds – i used only
Judgement
and
Flash of Light
during phase 1.
when i heard the adds spawning, i used
Divine Storm
(or occassionally
Holy Wrath
) to kill them.
phase2 wasn't that easy for me, but with
Lay on Hands
i made it.
now i just have to kill
Drakkisath
a couple more times to get my
Lightforge Breastplate

Soloed as an 80 feral druid (kitty speced). Use rake and mangle on the boss, but don't let your energy drop below 45 during phase 1. Watch carefully for adds and swipe them immediately when they come up. Once phase 2 hits, pop Tiger's Fury and Berserk and go to down with a rake and mangle spam since he doesn't summon adds anymore.

Solo'd as lvl 80 fury warrior, mostly in ICC10/25 gear. Took 3 attempts, first two attempts tried to anticipate the spectral assassins and kept whirlwind off cooldown to use as soon as they appeared - didn't work. Third attempt popped all cooldowns (Battle Shout, Mark of Supremacy, Death Wish, Recklesness) and just went ballistic on him. I either got very lucky and killed the adds as they spawned or they didn't spawn at all - whole fight was over in less then 10 seconds.

Soloed without difficulty as a pvp spec frost mage with arcane splash, in pve gear at score 5557. Molten armor and the usual ice barrier with frostbolt spam, I also started with mana shield. Got him to 50-60%, then popped mirror image and water elemental, which handily distracted the adds when they showed up long enough for a blizzard. After that, cold snap and new icy veins and burned him down. Didn't need backup water elem.

Pop Trees, nuke Boss hard, Moonfire any adds/or send Pets after them, should your trees die pop Starfall. Valthalak should be down before Starfall ends - and your Feralheart set is complete.

3 manned this boss with lvl 60s, had prot warr (T2), resto sham (T2.5), frost mage (T2). We had our mage take care of the adds by arcane explosion, or ice lance with his pet helping, as well as the shaman dropping magma totem and using shocks. Once he enters P2 no more adds spawn but he does heavy group dmg, so chain heal spam worked nicely. Play on pre-bc lovers :]

This is the absolute surefire way to kill him... if you can do it w/o useing this strat then props to you... but this is mostly directed at those not in Teir 2.
Class Balance 4 rogues, 1 priest, 1 mage, 1 hunter, 1 druid, 2 warriors.
(This works best, though due to whatever reasons, similar classes can be substituted)
Gear: This fight is quite easy with blues/scattered epics. The tank needs to be well geared however.
General:
-This fights hardest Stage is Stage One.
-Keep mana drains up.
-Only Main Tank should recieve heals.
-This fight takes place in the Beasts Room of UBRS.
-It is for your Teir 0.5 quests.
-It is an easy fight if done correctly.
-Bring 2 each for every attempt.
-If everyone does/has what is listed here, he will go down.
Stages!
There are 3 stages....
Stage One
Outline: Most Rogues kill adds, only the main tank should take damage... if anyone else does its probably a wipe. Dps boss down to 40% to procede into Stage 2.
Fight: He spawns with 111k hp and 2.8k mana.. 3 rogues and dps warrior kill Specters (summoned adds)QUICKLY, if they completly channel their stunning spell on you, you will die instantly at the end, no matter what HP you have. 2 healers keep the main tank up, you will be stunned from the adds and the other healer must take over, hopefully the rogues and dps warrior are doing their job, and you will only be stunned for a few seconds. The tank just tanks Lord Valthalak, no tricks, just hold aggro. 1 hunter mana drains/dps Lord Valthalak, mage/odd rogue dps boss.
Other notes: Only tank on boss untill mana is fully drained (ALOT LIKE SNAKE BOSS IN ZUL'GURUB); turn gamma on video options up so you can see the Specters.
Stage Two
Outline: This stage begins at 40%. Specters no longer spawn, Valthalak will get buffed, he will hit for alot more. This stage ends at 15%.
Fight: All DPS on Spectres will move onto Lord Valthalak, then its just like fighting any other mob... no tricks, just steady DPS. You will want to drink a the second this stage begins.
Other Notes: Keep the boss mana drained, conserver mana/rage through this stage as much as possible. The potion you have drunk at the beginning of this stage is for Stage Three.
Stage Three
Outline:Final stage. Begins at 15% and ends at 0%. Boss will start shooting many medium damage shadowbolts. No Spectres spawn in this stage.
Fight: This is a burn. Warriors should be spamming execute the second he hits 20%, everyone else blow your cooldowns and bring him down. Be alert and ready to drop another on this stage. Healers should still be focusing on MT, your potions will hold you throughout the burn.
Other Notes: Keep him mana drained. Full dps... save your cooldowns for this.
Loot!
Other then your actual teir 0.5, there is an excelent rogue/dps warrior cape, and the leet lookin staff. Many more items may be availible for lootin, but I'm not here to spectulate about what they could be.

i think it was a better choice to bring in hunters than rogues. with the hunters multishot it makes it easier for you to kill the spectors. the multi shot is on a 6 seccond cooldown i believe. and when the multishots crit they usually can kill a spector. our hunters were equiped with most of the +crit% gear from DM.
side note. keep an eye out for spectors on your MT. your mt will probably be the furthest away from the group and will be hardest to see when a spector is on him. 10secconds on him and it's a wipe boys. i believe the "v" key brings up health bars of enemy mobs....this also helps to locate the spectors.

Well after the 14 th wipe i decided to wait until members from the guild was up for it. It helps alot if you can talk over Vent or TS, did it with 2 warriors, 3 hunters, 1 mage, 1 druid, 1 priest, 1 warlock and 1 shaman
Just get past fase 1 and you are fine. Stay at max range only tanks do the melee damage in fase 1. JUST KILL THE SPAWNS FAST AND YOU WILL TAKE HIM.
You dont even need shadow pots for the 3th fase, just hit him with all you got.

I downed Valthalak first try with one group I put together. Even without pimped-out-gear, the boss is doable if you can find 10 players with the right class mix and who are competent players who can listen and follow instructions.
Thus, the hardest part about downing Valthalak is finding a good group.
My suggestion
3 Warriors
2 Rogues
1-2 Priest / Lock : for Mana Drain
1-2 Priest / Pally / Shammy / Druid : for heals
The rest should preferably be Ranged DPS
Phase 1, all the ranged DPS, healers, and mana drain split into 2 groups and help from afar. The Warriors and Rogues all gang up around Valthalak. Spreading out will minimize dammage from his chain-shadow move. When the shades spawn,,, the reason for having so many rogues/warriors is for kick/shield bash. Stop their channeling spell FIRST, then kill them. Having lots of kicks and shield bashes makes phase 1 ALOT easier. He will enter phase 2 once you get him down to 40%
Phase 2, Valthalak heats up his DPS, but you can disarm him. This is actually the easy rest-up phase. As long as you have enough healing power, there isn't much to worry about in this phase. Everyone should be dealing steady DPS. Once he hits 25%, all the warriors and rogues should start saving their energy and rage. Rogues should start putting up combo points.
Phase 3, He hits phase 3 at 15%. Some people suggest using Shadow protection potions at this stage (and indeed that would help), but I say you can do it without them if you have enough DPS (and because I'm too cheap and they're WAY too expensive). Warriors and rogues should be at full rage/energy (rogues with combo points up). Have warriors pop recklessness execute at 15% (not 20). Anyone with arcane power, power infusion, zandalarian hero charms, etc; use them durring this stage. The priest should be in the same group as the party members with the fewest HP, and should start tossing out AOE group heals (probably will need to pop a potion by this point). DPS the $%^& out of him, and he should drop before he drops you.
And thats it. Thats the way I got it done at least.

We noticed that during the fight this guy is healing himself somehow. I also noticed that whenever one of the specters die, more appear immidiatly. Is this a coincedence or does killing the shades make more spawn, and how/why is he healing himself?
评论来自
Thottbot
Come from the chain lightening, it heals him. So if too many people are around him, he is getting more heals every time.
Our group had 1 rogue, 2 warriors (dps and prot), 2 priest, 2 mages, 1 pally, 2 hunters. 4 of us are on the quest to get our armor upgrades and we are wearing those tier .5 set pieces that we have gotten.
The rest are wearing random gear.
First stage we had mages and pally on adds, with hunter backing up and viper sting on him. We initially started with me running taking adds but there wasn't enough DPS.
Twice we got him down to 9% with our group. It wasn't an issue until the shadow damage came into the play. I do agree having the 2 shadow protection potions help, especially for the last stage because I wasn't even up for that stage, died in the 2nd cause I didn't get heals in time. I'm a rogue btw.
Also it was 9% after the dps warrior and I went down in stage stage two. Spamming healing is great on the tank, but if there isn't enough dps in that last stage there is no point in it cause you just drain your mana and be *!@# out of luck.

This was my 2nd kill of Lord Valthalak, the first time me and a friend forgot to use the amulet on the Lord (Dont make the same mistake!).
Group: 1 tank, 1 dps warr, 1 rogue, 2 mages, 1 warlock, 1 hunter, 2 priests and 1 druid.
First of i thought this was way to many healers, but after trying sometimes with 3 rogues we switched em with healers.
Phase 1: from 100-40% life
The shades must be killed asap, thats priority 1 for everyone except MT. His mana pool is about 2500 so we got a warlock to drain his mana and a hunter using viper sting to keep it down. Its important to spread out so u dont get that chain lightining. And if u got some casualities we used both soulstones and combat resses. Phase 1 is definitly the hardest part.
Phase 2: from 40-15% shades are gone
This is when the Lord starts to hit harder, healing mt is really important. Cause he will be the only one taking dmg. Keep a steady dps and save mana for the last phase.
Phase 3: from 15-0%
This is when u go all out, use whatever of pots u got. Have all of your cooldowns ready for this. He will start casting some shadowbolts at everyone, and its impossible for healers to heal everyone.
Edit: We got him down on the 6th try, and after switching a few players. 2 times we had him to 1%.
Rest was just plain wipes. If someone on stormscale needs help, just pm Jinxen.
And last, thanks to my group for the help.
Full Sorcere's Set :D

1 dps warrior, 1 rogue (me), 1 warlock, 1 druid (resto/balance with innervate), 1 pally, 3 hunters (marksmen), 2 priests (one was shadow).
First attempted we wiped cause the tank was lagging and couldn't hold the aggro.
Second time we killed him. Most everyone was on the adds in the first round. I came off Valthalak a few times to grab the adds that got on the tank and random ones that were near me.
Second stage I backed off, tank puts up shield wall then disarms him, I run in at that point do as much damage, then back off. He gets to 15%, I pop a shadow protection, run in and wail on him. I was the only one to die because I wasn't getting heals, I am now a happy DM full set owner.
Four of us were on the quest and had all our armor, the others had random pieces. Nothing above tier .5, shame on the higher tier wearers.
The leggings and the Ironweave cap dropped.

Just this evening we downed him with the following group:
1 warrior
3 rogues
2 mages
1 warlock
1 hunter
1 priest
1 shaman
Phase 1 - 100% to 40%
Basically, 2 rogues on adds, 3rd one on boss duty. Warlock and Hunter on mana drain duty. Keep him at 0 mana or he heals himself. Hunter should do some multishots to deal with adds but mainly focus on keeping boss manadrained with the warlock. Warlock can dps once boss is to 0 mana and hunter will take over with Viper Sting. Mages and lock can do instant damage and counterspell on the adds if they mess with the caster/healer group.
Phase 2 - 40% to 15%
Ranged dps worked for us here. Keep him mana drained. Adds no longer spawn so dont worry about those. Dps him hard and make sure that healers have mana to heal tank. Valthalak hits harder in Phase 2 than in the first one.
Phase 3 - 15% to 0%
Valthalak increases his melee damage alot so keep the heals up. Full on dps on him to get him down, keep some viper sting to prevent him from healing himself but other than that just nuke the living piss out of him. Also shoots 500ish damage shadow bolts at people so bring a shadow prot pot for this and just survive longer than him :)
Mana pots is a good thing to have. Group healths wont be the main problem for the healers, only tank.
Hope it helps, good luck.

We made this a week ago with most of us blue gear and a couple of epics per character, and we wiped three times before the right time. In our success, the main idea was the position of the raid.
We pulled Valthalak in the room next to his; the MT was close to him, one rogue stayed near but not too much, to face the adds stunning the warrior and in the same time avoid Val's AoE. The others were all near to each other, in a "grape" pattern: the other rogue and the hunt in front, the casters behind, but in this group we were all together, no one was isolated: this helped a lot for the adds: when they spawned they all rush in the same direction, making them far easier to target. Me as a caster (lock), I was nuking Val and pressed "tab" between each spell; in this fashion I was able to nuke Val as often as possible, and prevent all the moving adds from beginning their beam spell, and that without moving; the adds focusing on the MT were easily slain by the "free" rogue.
The second phase was the easiest as the MT disarmed Val quickly, and all of us were doing a lot DPS. The locks took advantage in this phase, doing lifetap and selfhealing without any threat.
I can hardly explain what happened on third phase, I think most of the bolts concerned those in close combat first; the mages and locks keep focusing on Val, not caring about their health and the locks casting their Curse of Doom at this point (or at the near end of phase 2). All the healers moved to stay in the entrance of this room (the corridor leading to BWL), in this place they kept LoS on the MT and the rogues but not on Val, and that prevented them from being hit by the bolts. Anyway it seems that this phase have to be as short as possible... Only the MT and one cc rogue died in third phase.
What is stated above helped a lot, but I would say that you can spare Shadow Protection potions for your MT and your rogues.

We just killed him yesterday. This is the easy way to do it:
-Get ranged. We had 2 Hunters and 2 Mages as the main bulk. AoE is nice for the Assasins. Yes, Undead spells work on them as well
-1 or 2 Healers. For our run I pretty much healed the tank myself (Pally) and another Pally took over later
Start the fight, have only the tank up there with Valthalak. Keep everyone else back at max distance, including other melee. When the Assassins come everyone (but the tank) shifts their attention to them, owns them fast, and returns attention to the boss
Have any pets out to help kill Assassins/Take a stun. The MT needs to make sure to call out if he is getting stunned- I zapped his assailant with Excorcism and a Hunter finished it off
Keep going. Make sure to stay back or the Lightning will zap you good; you can drain his mana pretty easily
At 40-50% he'll Yell something out and change his attack style. Have the MT Disarm him immediatley. We had another Warrior as well, who charged in, DA'd again, and came back out
When he got to 20% we just went nuts and everyone attacked. He was at about 0 mana so we were pretty safe, no deaths

Mage and lock focus on draki and only MT is jiting him in meele... all teh rest basically focus on shades and when none are up go on valthalak... this is teh worse part... on phase 2 druid starts healing with teh help of the priest too and steady dps will do the job on phase 3 its prety much nuke keeping his mana down and keeping the mt up..

Blizzard seriously need to do one of two thigs. Make Lord Valthalak easier (like one spawn every summons instead of two), or let him drop epics (so more people will want to try him, and gain more experience).
On my server silvermoon, I'm having a really tough time finding good UBRS groups to down this guy. PUGs with partial non-60s will never bring him down. Even doing a guild UBRS run (my guild is right now in the beginning BWL stage), with everybody on vent and mostly MC gear is still virtually impossible.
If I wasn't going for the Ironweave set, I would seriously say: "Hell no" if someone asked to do him.
Blizzard! Increase the level of his drops, or chill him out. MC bosses are easier then him right now.

Stage 1, 100 to 40% he spawns nasty Assasins who stu nsomeone for 10 seconds if that lasts for 10 seconds and it isnt interrupted the guys ( that is being stunned ) dies. All hunters rogues mages and warlocks must kill those when spawns.
Stage 2, 40 - 15% he doenst spawn adds anymore but he gets a powerup Heal MT alot here...
Stage 3 15 - 0% He is even stronger and spawns AoE Shadowbolts, bring on teh Cooldowns and nuke him dead.
You have killed Valthalak and got some great loot + Tier 0,5!

Got him down on our second try. I think the key was having three hunters with us, their constant DPS on Val and the ability to take out the assassins with the two pallys spamming exorcism was the trick.
we had:
Prot warrior
Rogue
Pallys - 2
Preist
Druid (Inervate and battle rez came in handy)
Hunters - 3
Warlock (mana drain)
3 of us had the quest and the necklace dropped, so it was a good time for all.
Good luck!

I got him down once but I have to do him again since I didnt know we were suppose to use the amulet on his corpse. Well out pug group most greens did well. We had 1 warrior, 2 rogues, 1 pally (me), 1 hunter,1 mage, and 3 priests, The lock mostly took out the undead things with his Fel'Guard in 1 shot so yeah was pretty easy. Everytime I try to do this peopel just leave after Drak or say get a tier'ed to help you or guild. Well I did have a tier 1 warrior and priest this one run but we somehow died... Also I dont have a guild since I hate them now... Anyways yeah I like the idea with 3 hunters ganan try it.

So, we got him down today. Not smoothly, but with the information provided here, nobody should have any problems to do the very same thing.
At first, let me quickly go over his abilities:
1. His feared chained shadow-based attack:
This attack chains from target to target, each time doubling its damage. Starts with 750 damage, chains 4 times. If this is casted into a group, it means a wipe. This is easily his most fearsome attack, but, luckily, he also needs a lot of his mana (about 1/3, a rough guess: about 1300) to perform it.
Note: As of yet, I cannot confirm whether the damage done by this ability heals him or not. But I think it doesnt matter (see below).
2. Spectral Assasins
Every 10 or 12 seconds in phase 1, he creates two spectral assasins. These have around 1800 hp and count as undead. They randomly pick a target, run towards this target and, at some point, start to channel a spell which has 8 seconds duration. During the spell, the unfortunate target is stunned. In case the spell is channeled for the whole 8 seconds, the target will, in the end, receive an amount of damage precisely matching her/his maximum hitpoints. In other words, the target will be dead. The spell itself can only be interrupted by stun or disorient effects. The assasins are also quite stealthy and almost invisible, unless you stand close to them (close meaning ~15 yard).
3. Mana Tap
Drains about 500 mana from a target in range and adds this to his own. He does this on a regular basis, though the time between the taps is quite long, about 20 to 30 seconds.
4. Self Heal
Heals himself for ~12k hp, takes about 500 of his mana. While this awesome ratio is good for Valthalak, its not good for you. This heal is instant cast and has a rather distinctive graphic.
5. Shadow Bolts
Only available in phase 3. He starts to shoot shadowbolts on all raid members, every 2 or 3 seconds. They do, from what I noticed, 500ish damage.
Our setup:
Warrior (def), 2 palas (holy and protection), 2 priests (shadow, other was lvl 58/59 holy (dinged during the fight)), 2 mages, feral druid (lvl 59), rogue, hunter
The warrior was t1 equipped, the rogue, the holy paladin and the hunter had t2 style equipment.
Crazy as it is, this is what we did: the t0 protection paladin tanked the lord, keeping judgement of wisdom on him. Shadowpriest and hunter drained his mana (as soon as the mana was down, the hunter was mostly sufficient to keep it there, with an occasional small manaburn from the priest). Once his mana was depleted, we all charged the lord. Just the hunter was allowed to stay a bit further away due to minimum range. During phase 1, the holy paladin was totally enough to keep the tank healed. The DPS was switched from the lord to the assasins once they appeared, then back to the lord.
In phase 2, the holy priest actually had to earn his money by helping the paladin to heal the tank. In phase 1, he was extremely bored and attacked the Lord with his wand
Phase 3 was rough and tough, but over soon enough. We all burned our cooldowns on him and the rogue got the kill. This phase lasted about 15 seconds and two people died due to the shadowbolts. Only the tank had a shadow protection potion (this is recommendable though).
We tried the usual strategy, only one person (tank) in melee range. It didnt work for us because we couldnt down the assasins fast enough and they had a nasty tendency to go for the tank (Which stood a good bit away from us. Try targeting an almost invisible mob from 30 yard distance, then kill it within 8s. Good luck). The other problem was that ranged DPS alone was not enough to outdamage his selfheal.
By standing all together in close proximity to the lord, you have the advantage of eliminating both problems at once: assasins get killed quickly and while no assasins are present, the lord gets it all. Note that the assasins are not immune to AE effects. Just make sure the mana-drainers feel responsible for keeping his mana down and get the DPS to kill the assasins as they appear, and you will experience no difficulties in this fight.

Killed him for the first time tonight. Scroll up to see the last time I attempted him. Did it with 2 shamans, 2 warriors, 1 rogue, 1 hunter, 1 mage, 1 lock, 1 druid, 1 priest.
Rogue, and myself(shaman) were totally focused on shades during phase1, with everyone else pretty much dps'ing. At the end of phase1, we lost our priest, so resto shaman and druid picked up the slack.
At phase2, we had our heals and mana ready for the heavy physical damage part. At the end of phase2, we lost our main tank to pure damage.
When phase3 came, we had about 7 people left and we just threw everything we had at him. We lost two or three more during the phase. Anyways, unbelieveable fight, especially considering our lack of mana drain, and we only had 1 hunter.

Since 2.0 patch they've nerfed Val so that he only spawns 2 shades at a time instead of 3. This results in a very easy fight as more often than not that 3rd shade would spawn away from the other two making the crowd control that little bit more tricky.

Killed this guy yesterday after 5 wipes we finally got him in the end.
Our group was:
1 Tank
2 Mages
1 Priest
1 Paladin
1 Hunter
4 Rogues
In phase 1 the rogues was on spectral assasins while mages and 1 rouge (that took assasins close to the lord) did the dps.
At 40% our tank managed to disarm the lord, but he died before 15% health.
At 15% health we drank some shadow prot potions and nuked him... 3 dead in last fight!
Good luck with him!

We killed him yesterday at EU - Drak'thul with our guild: <The Immortal Legion>. It's a pretty cool boss and a cool fight.
http://67.18.37.16/2602/53/upload/p4793401.jpg
Left to right: Shadowflake, Tongpo, Kaham, Preatorius, (me, Immortal in front), Liandri, Cerdan, Darklord, Kaffi and Cagliostro.
His abilities:
-From start to 40%, shades spawn that channel a spell on a target in the raid that immobilizes and kills them when the spell ends
-If you clump up near him, or if you have people forming a chain from at mele range to the people standing at the back, he does an ability like the snake boss in zg that hits for (from our early tries) 17k
-He heals himself... farily tame, but interupt it if it happens
-At 40% to 10% he hits really hard and shades stop spawning
-At 10% he tosses shadowbolts. We only saw 3-4 per second, but they may be more frequent if they have a max/min range and you happen to be mostly in that range (not sure)
Tips:
-Split into 2 grps, one in melee range, other at max range.
-Hit your "v" button to display a healthbar over the shades (they can be hard to spot)
-The shades can die in 1 multishot crit, so save that for when they spawn, and the more hunters, the better
-Hunters and locks put pets on aggressive, but keep them away from the boss, this helps on shades
-Don't be a newb like me and forget to use the neck on his corpse to hand in the quest (not to the guy outside)
In addition:
- Drain his mana (we are still not sure if kick and shield bash worked for interuption).
- Melee can focus on boss, except when spawns keep standing close to the boss.
- At 40% hp all melee classes go ranged as well(except MT).
- At 10% hp MT uses shieldwall.

I put together a Valthalak group on Cenarion Circle, mostly from my guild (Bound by Blood) but with a few outsiders from my friends list and one person I hadn't met before (props to all). I'd tried Valthalak five times before on two different runs, with PUGs that were well-balanced for UBRS and did fine through UBRS, and we'd always wiped to the shades. This time, I grabbed a completed UBRS instance from a guild run, kept a few people, and added as much ranged DPS as possible, especially hunters. We ended up with 2 druids (including me), a warrior, a pally, 2 mages, and 4 hunters. The warrior tanked Valthalak, the druids and pally mostly healed, the mages and hunters did ranged DPS on Valthalak and the shades. The most critical part, I think, was the hunters spammed multi-shot whenever the shades popped (2 every 10 seconds seems to be a good estimate). Once Valthalak got to 40% and the shades stopped, everybody but the healers went all out on DPS. The healers chain-healed the main tank, who had no trouble holding aggro. We didn't even need the druids' combat resses. I'd never seen Valthalak get below 68% before, usually with 8 of the group immobilized by shades, but this time he dropped *fast*, and better yet on the first try. This strategy is simple enough that I think it could be done without vent (the only voice traffic we had was somebody calling out whenever shades appeared, but everybody could see them anyway). Four hunters and two mages were probably more than were needed (one hunter actually didn't have multi-shot); just keep in mind that having a lot of close meleers would risk the chain lightning attack. In addition to the quest finish for two of us, Valthalak dropped the Ironweave Cowl and the Shroud of Domination.

Boss encounter was tricky, but a couple of good quick rogues, some crazy DPS from a mage & enough healing from myself we got the job done.
Handguards of Savagery & Ironweave Cowl dropped

Just did it again and noticed he has 2400mana... drain to prevent heals maybe? Cause it's odd to have only 2400 on a 110000hp mob...

Hey Everyone,
If you're having trouble with this boss, don't listen to these guys below. This IS a hard boss considering you're trying to finish your dungeon set 2 (tier .5) gear, and you probably at best only have a couple pieces of Tier 1 & some ZG/AQ Gear. I tried downing valthalak numerous times. I tried with friends, pug's, my guild (who has ZG on farm, and we're working on AQ & MC). I finally went with another guildy last night and teamed up with some of our servers best-geared people. Our MT had 6/8 Tier 2 & 2/8 Tier 3, and the Thunderfurry. He still suffered greatly in Phase 3. I'm protec spec'd, but I was on spawn duty & dps b/c I have tried tanking Val in the past and I've died in Phase 3 every time.
If you'd like to see my go of it last night, see below:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=OxhBqiaNhMM
Good Luck to all that try and complete this. As if there weren't enough challenges before this guy... The Baron 45min run is hard. The Challenge is very difficult. The special summoned boss's are annoying. Valthalak is almost impossible. Anyway, if you're one of the ones below saying how unbelievably easy this is, why don't you go throw on some tier 0 & .5, and get 9 other people equally spec'd as you, and try it. It's not possible, period. You shouldn't HAVE to find people in Tier 2, AQ40 & Nax gear to kill a boss that gives you .5 gear. GG Blizzard.

You need a "bad ass DPS" group that all uses ventrilo or some other voice comms; otherwise forget it. Pug groups and no voice communication will not cut it. Just going to add to what the original post has, let you know how we did it. If you can make it passed all the adds from the first phase, he is easy with a high DPS group. The stun and drain effects on the adds will wipe your group if you don't communicate and act fast, not to mention, if you don't kill them quickly, the damage on the drains group up, and do more damage.
1. 100%-40%
a. Have your Rogues and fury warrior DPS Lord until the adds spawn. (Hit V like it is suggested so you can see them because they tend to blend in to the backround.)
b. Drain his mana for when you do finally get him down to that 10% so you're not dealing with his shadow bolts. (He only has 2800 mana)
c. Shadow Protection and shadow potions will help.
d. Shammy's help with adds and chain lightening them.
e. Rogues/Warriors Kick and cancel his shadow casts, helps avoid the 8000 Damage some of your group will recieve
2. 40%-15% easiest part
a. All out DPS...
b. Use your warriors to try to disarm him, helps tremendously
3. 15%-Dead
a. Your protect warrior should shield wall between 15-10% and DPS some more, tremor totem would help with the Bus effect he does. He will charge everybody just focus DPS until dead.
And if all else fails, bring a bad ass guild with you... Thanks again Denizons of Defilement.
-Ruination (Conspiracy)
** I'd also like to add that it isn't completely useless after you are done. There are 2 more bosses you are able to summon as well, although I haven't read any info on them. But there is still a bonus to doing the quest.

another pic.
got him down to 2% on our third attempt then the server went down. we had 3 shaman, 2 warriors, 1 hunter, 1 mage, 1 lock, and 2 rogues. most of us were in some of our tier 1, and 1 shammy was in aq40 gear.
notes about strat.
dont use shield wall until he says something at 50ish%. for us it was at 45%. use last stand at 15%
phase 1
he heals but the mt should have enough time as well as with a rogue to stop the heals. make sure to hit "V" or whatever you have rebound teh view health bars above the npc key. that way right when the spawns pop up you will see them instantly. also when they pop all dps focus on them. the spawns seem to come out ever 30 seconds.
during phase 2 focus heal on the MT. the shdow bolts hurt, but they can be spot healed. during the middle of stage 3 pop dps cooldowns since the last 15% he takes the most damage and the cooldowns should last until the last 5% of his health.
during phase 3 he takes alot more damage that in phase 2, i was able to hit an execute at 1/2 rage for 2400dmg and i am prot spec.

How the hell can we kill him ? ><
We wiped around 6 times on him before repop of UBRS mobs with a full guild 10-man raid T1-T2 stuffed :o I wonder how he can be killed with a T0-guys raid oO We didn't even reach the 2nd phase as he kept OS us although we were trying to kill all the assassins. He was always healing himself I don't know how and no way we could make him lesser than 70% ;(
Can someone give us a fine strategy for him, more than "thoughts" ? I need to kill him ><

My 4th Valthalak group finally got him down (on its 1st try too!).
We had:
1 warrior
1 warlock
1 druid
1 priest
3 mages
3 hunters (one level 59)
About half of us were in epics, but groups in normal dungeon gear could get it done too, they might just need to bring greater shadow protection potions. The good thing about this setup was we didn't have to worry about healing melee people in stage 2 and 3 (other than the tank).
At first the lock and 1 hunter drained his mana to 0 before the group started dps. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of draining his mana. In my 3 previous groups we didn't bother, and he basically was able to heal 2/3 of our damage done to him. The lowest we ever got him in those groups was 41%.
2 hunters rotated Viper Sting to keep his mana at 0 the whole fight. All the mages, hunters and lock dpsed Val, and killed assassins when they spawned. Hunters had their pets out but not on Val as extra targets for the assassins to defile.
Phase 2, everyone took their shadow protection potions (only tank had greater ones) and dpsed the heck outta Val. Phase 3, mana drain was continued while we upped our dps. The tank ended up dying right at the end of the fight (his shield wall was on cooldown), but we managed to get Val down.
Basically, there was only one difference between this group and my last 3 - we drained his mana. He didn't heal one bit and was easy to get into stage 2.
3 of us are now happy owners of full T0.5 ^^
Valthalak is tough and requires coordination but he isn't impossible. Good luck to all who try him :)

This boss was hard hard hard.
We had the party set out:
1 warrior
2 priests
2 rogues
2 warlocks
3 mages
No uber epix, everyone in T1 or worse. We had the warrior pull the boss back into the room before the beast's room (mostly for easy wipe protection) and tank him in the top left corner (if you're facing the beast's room), a rogue was positioned behind him, the rest of the party in a ball behind the boss within spell range. Initially both the locks mana drained, getting his mana to 0, then one lock kept it that way throughout the fight (sometimes helped by the other if it was getting close). The rogue dealt with any assassins on the tank, the other rogue got any assassins that came to near the main party, the mages did DPS and cleared out any assassins that went for the rogues.
Down to 40%, this was pretty easy with a bit of practice (sometimes someone died in the attempts before... you could pretty much write off any attempt where someone was killed by an assassin as a wipe). At this point, the ninjas stopped, the bosses DPS grew greatly so the tank disarmed, the second rogue piled in, and the mages tightened up the DPS. The warlocks kept draining/DPSing as and when appropriate. At 15%, that's when the fun starts as he starts unleashing very, very regular and very painful shadow bolts. We'd brought along shadow protection potions which we drunk and spammed the hell out of him, priests cast prayer of healing, everyone else went into DPS mode. Downed him with 7 party members still up, all on red health. Far too close, but full 0.5 for me!
He is very hard, but don't give up on him... we had a group of us who all needed the quest and we just kept trying (over a few days) until we finally got it. Took us about 20 attempts to finally bring him down after a 4% and 3% wipe. Pleased though, and we got some nice loot.

2 Mages
2 Warriors
1 Rogue
1 Hunter
1 Warlock
1 Priest
1 Druid
1 Shaman
Group 1 - Boss / Adds:
Shaman
Warrior (tank)
Warlock
Hunter
Druid
Group 2 - Adds Only (Until 40%):
Priest
Mage
Mage
Warrior
Rogue
Basically, the whole basis of doing it this way is to have clearly assigned tasks for everyone in the raid. Priest, druid, shaman - heal. Always. Unless the shaman can provide a helpful shock or two on the adds, they shoudl be healing. Rogue, be on the adds. Mages, Arcane Explosion right under his feet as they are coming out. One AE from both mages will put them below half health.
While this is happening, the tank will be building incredible amounts of aggro. The other warrior is on adds. Preferably, you will want a MS or Fury warrior there for his instant hit, which is usually over half of the Spectral Assassin's health. The rogue, like the DPS warrior, has his instant hits for the adds as well. In my experience as the tank, I had such good aggro on Lord Valthalak, I could switch over and kill a nearby add.
The biggest part of this lies on the hunter/warlock. Hunter, keep a mana sting on him at all times. In addition, use Multishot like it's your job. Lock, mana drain all day long. Be sure that BOTH of you have pets out and BOTH of them are on the boss. This will cause the assassins to target them from time to time. Losing a pet is much less vital than losing one of your other party members.
Tauren are especially useful here. Warstomp DOES interrupt the cast. Not sure about fear. The Lock was too busy mana draining to worry about it. :)
It's a fight of a geared tank with GOOD healers that have large mana pools (and have Learned2Conserve). Bringing potions along will make it smoother. Once he hits 40%, the physical damage on the tank will be pretty large. And at 15%, people will die. Be fully buffed (including Well Fed, Divine Spirit, Shadow Protection, and any other magic resistance potions you have that will improve your ability to mitigate shadow damage).
Tank is main priority. Warlock and Mages are second. I'd have a hard time picking between them because of how important their jobs are.
Killed him five times now to date. Really fun boss when people work together. He's definitely the 10 man version of a ZG/AQ20 boss. Not easy, though he can be if done right.

Got him down this night. The Setup was:
Mage, Warrior (Def), 2xHunter, Feral-Druid, another Feral (me), Moonkin-Druid, Paladin (Holy), Paladin (Retribution) & a Rogue.
All but me and the other Feral were mainly T1 or T2, I was in 8/8 shadowcraft and the healing Feral afaik in T0&0,5 or so.
Warri Tanked, 1 Hunter + the Rogue killed the spawns, the Paladins & the other Feral healed & did a lil ranged dmg to Valthalak, the other Hunter, the Moonkin, the Mage and me nuked Valthalak.
Later (at about 60% health) the Rogue & I changed positions because he could deal more dmg to Valthalak (who might guess that a T1/T2-Rogue could deal more dmg than a T0-Feral *smiles*).
We did not care at all about draining mana and just tried to get him down asap via maxdps.
I died first at about 8% and one other did at 4%, but he got down 1st try.
He dropped the Set-Head and the Caster-Ring.
The whole fight seemed to be shorter than 2 or 3 minutes. Not a piece of cake but the Rogue and me were the only ones with pots applied and it still did go quite well.

Got him to 10% on Burning Blade (alliance) PvP
FUN FUN crazy fight, hard too
he has 3 different phases,
Phase 1~~ He dosnt do much damage, but he summons little shadow people, these people will cast a spell on u that looks like drain soul, its about a 7~10 second long, while u are being "drained" u can not move, cast, or do anything, its up to the other raid members to kill this guy for u, if the dot stays on u till tis over u die, lol so dont let it stay on u, its necessary to kill these guys as soon as they spawn, and they sapwn 2 at a time
also, it seemed that he would heal every now and then, liek a drain life for 10k life : 0, have a war/rogue shield slap/kick him to stop it AS SOON as u see Lord Valthalak do a drain on the MT.
Healing isnt that big of an issue, because he dosnt do that much damage during phase 1, have locks/priest/hunters drain mana as soon as the battle starts (he only has 2k mana so u can drain his mana really quickly into the battle), (also, it seemd that lord valthalak did a crazy 5k aoe damage when we where all grouped together, there may be another cause of his aoe but i highly suggest u all spread out, thats what worked for us)
Phase 2~~ at 40% he goes insaine, his staff switches into some killer weapon and he dishes out alot more damage, suggested that the warrior shield walls as soon as phase 2 starts becuase he really dishes out some serious damage, this phase is a straight up, tank em rock em fight, keep tank healed!
Phase 3~~ at 10% it really goes to hell, he starts running around spamming shadow bolts to every one in the raid, this is where my raid wiped, i belive u just straight up zerg him down fast at the last 10%
~~~~This is just my conclusion of the fight after about 3~4 tries. plz feel free to add to, or change any part of this strat. also i highly recomend everyone in the raid has a greater shadow resistance potion, it will help alot for phase 3~~~
Pwnt him raw with the help of Sacred Brethren on Azjul-Noobrub. Had the two locks use their Felhouds, made a huge difference. Tons of big DPS is another help. dropped neck and shadow pants.
How the hell did you do Valthalak without any interrupting his nearly instant cast healing, Arlor?
we tried him with no rogues, only 1 war and had 2 shamans 2 hunters 1 mage 1 warlock 2 priests 1 druid
couldnt bring him down, he kept healing himself full
All the comments are garbage
THE FIRST THING
YOU NEED TO KNOW IS AFTER U KILL THE BOSS USE THE AMULET ON HIS BODY TO COMPLETE QUEST
To kill the Boss:
Take a hunter for Viper sting so the boss has no mana and cannot heal or cast damaging abilities
A warlock can drain mana and priest can mana burn
There is no point for melee to hit the boss at first while he has mana he will heal and also cast chain lighting best to spread out
The tank will be stunned often thereby risk losing aggro early on too
DPS must kill adds as prio before they finish casting their channels thats a 1 shot too
Prio kill adds as they spawn only DPS the boss when no adds and keep mana drains on him so he has under 20% mana at all time
Use shadow aura to reduce shadow dmg
1 Tank, 3 Heal, 6 DPS do this and its easy
