In this scenario, Tyrande wants to charge into a Horde base but Varian cautions her about attacking without a plan.
It really shows that Varian has come a long way since his introduction. Although most of his character development happened in the Wolfheart novel, so people seeing the new calm Varian without reading that may be a little... put off.

This scenario is confusing as hell the first time you do it, since you get no hints whatsoever as to how you complete the objectives. If you go into it with no idea of what you're doing, the scenario will take you 30-40 minutes to complete, so here's a quick how-to guide:
Your first task is to set up two defensive positions, but you are given no indication of where to go or who to talk to. To progress, you MUST speak to Varian, who will direct you to two more npc's; a group of night elves to the west, a group of pandaren to the east. EDIT: these are not the only two groups. You may be sent to a group of gnomes, jinyu, or dwarves. Gnomes can be found slightly south. Jinyu can be found to the far west, though the set up their defense just in front of the temple. After speaking to each one, your map will be marked with an icon that looks like a hammer. These are where you are supposed to set up you defenses.
When you enter each construction zone, a bar will show up in the bottom of your screen, letting you know how close that zone is to completion. To speed up the completion process, there are two ways. The first is to kill the surrounding wildlife and horde assasins in the area. These mobs will drop battle rations, which you can use to get the npc's to work faster. The second is to go back to the main camp and pick up some construction tools from the wooden chests around the camp. These tools will allow you to help your npc allies in the construction of your defenses. (NOTE: you can only carry one set of tools at a time and they are consumed after one use, so this is not a reliable method). There are other methods of speeding up progress, depending on which races you get, but these are the only two universal methods.
Each construction site has its own challenge that will stop construction until you do something about it. For most of them, you need to protect them from elite mobs that periodically attack the camp. These are fairly powerful, and cannot be soloed by your standard dps, but it's otherwise fairly straightforward. The Pandaren are the one exception to this, and require something a bit different. They had a bit too much to drink the night before, and cannot seem to stay awake for more than 15 sec at a time. To wake them up, you need to go kill some of the nearby water elementals, which will drop something called Spirit-Kissed Water. You need to use this to wake up the one named Pandaren, which will cause the rest to wake up as well.
Once the defenses are completed, the hammer icons will be replaced by icons that look like bear traps. Once both are set up, Varian will taunt the Horde forces, causing waves of Horde to come charging out of the temple. Ignore them. They will charge into the traps you set up, and be slaughtered. Once they're all dead, your job is to get to the temple, take out the Kor'kron, and kill the boss, in that order. You cannot bypass the guards, as the boss will not be targetable until they are all dead. EDIT: a recent hotfix has made it possible to attack the boss without killing the guards.
None of this sounds complicated, because it's really not. But again, you are given no hints, no indication of how exactly you are supposed to set up the defenses. Hope you all found this helpful :)

How it works:
PHASE ONE:
In the first stage of the scenario, you have to complete two defensive sites. There are five possible defensive sites in the scenario; only two will be active on any run. You can either pick up tools at the main base to directly contribute to the progress, or collect materials to increase the rate at which the workers build the sites. (You don't get action buttons for these, you have to find them in your bag.) Tools are single use, so generally you grab them when you enter the zone, and then work on boosting the workers at the site. There is an achievement for completing each site
that seems to require you to use the tools there at least once
. EDIT: You just have to be in the scenario when the site is completed; you apparently don't even have to go to that site yourself.
Materials can either be found on the ground or looted from the mobs in the area. Some materials are specific to certain camps, while others can be used at any camp. See the tooltips on the item. When I completed the event tonight, the wood resource was throwing an error saying it had to be used at the Night Elf camp, but it was also consuming the resource and seemed to be increasing production. There are separate buffs for supplies (wood, ore) and food (Meaty Haunch, rations) which stack up to 3 times each and last 60 seconds, so you'll want to refresh them.
Each site will occasionally stop work due to some event: You have to resolve the event to restart progress.
Dwarven: Attack by a monster. Kill it.
Gnome: Attack by a monster. Kill it.
Jinyu: Attack by a monster. Kill it.
Night Elf: Attack by a monster. Kill it.
Pandaren: Workers fall asleep.
Provide food at the table in the camp, which requires rations or a meaty haunch from inside the zone.
(Or possibly water from the nearby spirit elementals, as mentioned above.) EDIT: Confirmed, you get the water from the nearby elementals and use it by clicking on the named mob. DO NOT use it from your bag; it will apply work towards the site but not wake the workers. You can use the water for +5 progress at other sites or if the workers are awake, but it's unique, so you should save it if the Pandaren site isn't complete.
Note about the Night Elf site: It is possible to get caught inside the wreckage of at least one of the Glaive Throwers. Stay off them.
There is a 12 minute timer called "Varian's patience" when you enter the zone. Presumably beating the timer gives you some reward, but I don't know what that would be, or if you have to complete both phases, or only the first phase.
PHASE TWO:
After you complete both defensive sites, a large number of Horde will spawn to attack the base camp. They will run through the defensive sites and be slaughtered by the traps. (At the Pandaren sites, waves of Horde will run right past the flaming cannons and get burned to death, despite the Hordies in front of them having just done the same thing. Stupid orcs must not have run Zul'Gurub. At the Night Elf site, they charge the Glaives and the Ancients and get sliced to ribbons.)
Once they're dead, head to the temple. Kill the guards that spawn (strictly speaking not necessary any more, but why would you want to let the orcs live?), and the boss will jump out of the temple. He's fairly straightforward. Seems to focus on a single player, who gets a pair of red eyes on their screen. It's an enrage effect, and the game says to avoid his melee attacks, but II didn't have any trouble tanking him and self healing as a Ret Paladin. Non-Plate wearers may want to kite.
The end. No loot.

When you first enter this scenario, press M and review your map to learn the location of the NPC's you need to speak with. Each race has it's own obstacle to completing construction on their respective traps.
Gnomes, Night Elves, Dwarves, and Jinyu construction sites will be randomly attacked by elite Horde NPC's, that will cause all construction efforts to be suspended. These elites must be destroyed for construction to resume.
Pandaren have the issue of having celebrated too much the night before, and need to be kept awake in order to complete construction. There are water sprites nearby that drop
Spirit-Kissed Water
which is used to keep the Pandaren's awake.
By completing construction on a particular race's trap, you will earn an achievement.

Had the final boss bug out--he leaped out to activate but then remained untargetable/frozen. Possibly caused by running up the steps to him before clearing all 6 of the final guards.

I'm not sure if this might have a couple of bugs in it.
We missed Varian's timer but were still able to complete the scenario. I'm not sure if beating the timer gives something additional though.
In addition we did not kill both sets of elites at the bottom of the temple steps. Just killed the one group and ran up after the boss. Once he was down we were complete.

Scenarios are new for WOW and introduced in Mists. Here are a few tips for having a successful scenario. While some of these may seem obvious, not everyone plays the game at the same level and there new players every day.
- Green circles on the ground with a flashing arrow indicate a healing area. Keep an eye on your health and take advantage of these when they are available.
- Don't expect the healing class in your group to provide heals. The scenarios are designed for 3 players of any class to complete. See above.
- Be helpful, considerate and communicate in a positive way. You may have run this scenario 50 times but the other players in your group may be there for the first time. Give players a chance to recuperate between fights, if needed.
- Stay together and work as a team. Things will go much faster and you'll have a better chance at success. If you know a short cut, let the others know.
- Work on the achievements in a pre-made group, rather than expecting 2 other random people to be willing to go for it. It may work out but be advised that most players are just there for a quick way to get Valor.
- If there isn't a tank and you have a lock or hunter in your group, the pets can tank for you as long as you don't pull threat away from them.

It's kind of ironic that Tyrande, who has lived a life more than 2,000 times longer than the King of Stormwind, seems to be more impatient than Varian. I don't really like the way that Blizzard puts these two figures in comparison and shows how greatly Varian has changed, but it's true that Tyrande has been somehow foolhardy throughout the campaigns of Warcraft 3. At least she's much less patient than Malfurion. So why don't let the Archdruid lead the Night Elf armies?

Does anyone has any idea why is there 6 total achievements for this scenario, while for the Horde version Dagger in the Dark there is only 4 total achievements?

This may be a stupid question, but I couldn't find answer anywhere else, so here goes.
I did the alliance landing portion of the quest line where Varian shows up and builds a base in Karasang Wilds. Then he gives you a quest to meet him in this scenario, I entered the scenario, talked to him to complete the quest, then built the traps and killed the general. It says I completed the scenario. Then the only thing that happens is Varian lectures the elf chick about a leader needing patience and then nothing else happens, no quests, nothing. So I leave the scenario and still can't find any other quests but the dailies at the alliance basecamp.
So is that it for the "invasion" questline? Or is there something else I need to do?

So I'm confused. I talked with the Elder guy from the Jinyu, and he talks about a Scepter that basically makes everyone follow you. I've looked everywhere for it, has anyone found it?

There are several boosts to help finish traps faster, go and talk to construction leaders, who give hints about boosts
1. Pandaren Trap - Master Brownstone - North-east of Varian and Tyrande is small lake, where rare mob in Krasarang mob spawns. in middle of lake you find female pandaren monk named Nove Rainpaw. She appears only when scenario has pandaren trap. Talk to her and then defeat her. She uses same abilities as pandaren rare mobs. After defeat, she goes to pandaren trap construction site and keeps pandaren workers awake. No need to farm water for awakening them anymore.
2. Gnome Trap - Rosey Axlerod - Gnome leader asks for her father's journal, which was lost in "high Grass around". No luck finding it so far. After searching wowhead comments, it appears that a mob named Goremaw can appear periodically and drops Soggy Journal, needed for gnomes to speed up.
3. Jinyu Trap - Elder Adler - "legends say there is hidden a mogu scepter with great power". no luck in finding it as well. According wowhead comments, a mogu named Researcher Morian spawns between Alliance base and Red Crane temple, close to
river. It drops Adorned Sceptre needed for jinyu elder.
4. Night Elf Trap - Ferra Pearl - don't have any boost
5. Dwarven Trap - Duff McStrum - They have no extra boost.
From time to time each construction site becomes attacked by various elites. During attack there will be no progress on attacked site and spending items there will help to no progress. Mostly attacker elites are soloable, if player has normal gear. Low-level geared players might need help to finish them
Bonuses usable to hasten construction (from wowpedia):
1. Battle Rations - looted from hostile humanoids, can be used at all sites (Saurok, Orc)
2. Meaty Haunch - looted from beasts, can be used at all sites (crocolisk, TIger)
* these both count as food and give same speed buff
3. Brittle Root - looted from roots next to trees all over the scenario, can be used at the jinyu and pandaren sites
* they are everywhere, but i found more north of pandaren site and north of gnome site
4. Jungle Hops - found on the ground, used at the pandaren site
* mostly around pandaren site
5. Krasari Iron - found on the ground, used at the dwarven and gnomish sites
* found lots of iron south of Dwarven site
6. Laborer's Tool - found between Tyrande and Varian, and also near the rest location of all named NPCs, can be used at all sites
* this is unique and stacks 1x. adds 25 progress to any site
7. Spirit-Kissed Water - looted from water elementals, wakens Master Brownstone, can be used at the pandaren or night elf sites
* If defeat Nove Rainpaw (see above Pandaren trap info), these are no longer needed.
* note, that some items, like Krasari Iron have tooltip where only 1 site's name figures. and might show on other site that you cannot use it there.. I had this problem when tried fasten Gnome site. it said i can use them only at Dwarves, but there was a stock of iron, which I clicked and it worked
8. there is a keg of beer (can't remember beer) which can spawn near Pandaren site. it can be used at Pandaren Site and adds +25 progress (not sure if it can be used at Dwarven or other sites too)

, you will be aiding 2 encampments, randomly chosen for you. If you truely do have the patience to do this scenario multiple times, you will eventually complete the following achievements for helping out each of the different encampments.

for helping the Gnomes
I Used to Love Them
for helping the Night Elves

With 5.2 it looks like horde players can do this scenario as well, not just alliance, otherwise i ran into some serious bug today. (it dropped me in with random scenario, had a fancy intro as well)

This scenario is ridiculous (storywise).
First you have Tyrande, whos thousands of years old, screaming at Varian like a brat, absolutely nothing like the commander she once used to be like in WC3 and she just comes off as incompetent, unable to formulate strategy when faced with a human whos not even a fragment her age.
Second, Varian's own words at the end of the scenario
"The day is ours! And not a single drop of blood was shed on this holy ground"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He just orders a group of Jinyu to set a trap for an army of orcs, whos bodies you see explode and rain down gore over there ground, and THEN the adventures go and kill the commander inside the temple. What, does orcs exploding and killing an orc so he bleeds over the ground not count as sheding blood in Varian's #$%^ed up mentality?
And the biggest kicker, is you can do this scenario as horde, under lorewalker chos human illusions. Why in Gods name would you, as horde, be joining Varian in killing your own soldiers and killing one of the generals in your faction to the benefit of your enemy, who wants to wipe you out?

The achievement names are references to Guns N Roses, as well as when you talk to Varian after starting the scenario he will say "Welcome to the jungle, <class>" which is of course a reference to "Welcome to the jungle", also a Guns N Roses song.
This came as a pleasant surprise when I got this scenario for the first time ever after listening to my Guns N Roses playlist.

Everything in this scenario has references to the american band Guns N 'Roses.
A Little Patience = a part of the lyrics of the song 'Patience'
when you reach in the scenario and talk to King Varian,
he says: "Welcome to the jungle " = it's a Guns N' Roses song
Kor'Kron Assassin say: "Welcome to the jungle , you're gonna die" = a part of the lyrics of the song 'Welcome To The Jungle'
Rosey Axlerod = singer of GN'R, Axl Rose
Commander Scargash = Slash, guitarrist of GN'R
Dizzy = Dizzy Reed, tecladist of GN'R
Duff McStrum = Duff McKagan, bassist of GN'R
Elder Adler = Steven Adler, first GN'R's drummer

Every time I get this one I just drop group and eat the Deserter debuff so this scenario has become my 30m break from WoW.
It is confusing with little guidance on how to do it (let alone do it fast) and has bugged out on me meaning it was impossible to complete so I refuse to waste more of my time going trough it.

This scenario randomly tests your patience.
You will know which two construction teams to help when their two representatives in Varian's camp display a bubble above their head on the map.
I've seen the word bubbles show up within seconds, and I've seen them not show up for several minutes.
This looks like a bug, but then again it's a little ironic given the name of the scenario.

So, I'm a special kind of stupid. I couldn't figure out how to EXIT the scenario upon completion, as I was the only person in it (lvl 110 DH). I had to
