Basics
Warfronts are a 20-man, PvE, large-scale cooperative mode meant to represent the large-scale war on the homefront, as members of each faction fight for control of a location critical to their war efforts.
Inspired by the real-time strategy (RTS) origins of Warcraft III, Warfronts allow you to play the role of a lieutenant leading the charge on the group for a massive battle. With a full group of 20 allied players, you're responsible for creating outposts, securing resources, set-up supply lines, and train troops to push the assault forward and conquer the enemy stronghold. However, unlike in Warcraft III, you won't be commanding the action from a top-down perspective - Instead, you will be fighting first-hand in the front lines.
Do I have to PvP in a Warfront?
No.
Warfronts, while depicting the conflict of the Alliance vs Horde, are not PvP content. You are not queueing into a large battleground, or instanced PvP like Ashran. Inside the Warfront, you will be fighting with 20 Allies, controlling NPC units, and fighting enemy troops and bosses.
Cycle of Content
There are four stages that the cycle of Warfronts and how Arathi Highlands and Darkshore changes. Using the launch of Darkshore in December 11 as an example of a Warfront cycle:
The Horde starts with ownership of Darkshore on December 11th. Alliance players must challenge this by contribution profession items, gold and War Resources to help their faction build up enough strength to attack. This is a region-wide effort.
Once enough contributions are supplied by the region, the Warfront: Battle for Darkshore unlocks and Alliance players are able to queue for the experience. This queue remains open for an entire week, allowing players to complete the Warfront at least once on a schedule that works for them.
After this queue time comes to an end, the Alliance takes control of Darkshore, giving them access to a unique World Boss, a serie of rare spawns, and World Quests only available while the Alliance controls the zone.
After losing control of Darkshore, the Horde then begins contributing resources to challenge Alliance control.
The contribution phase for a Warfront lasts between 3 to 5 days, then the Warfront is queueable for the faction launching the contribution effort for the next 7 days.
After winning control of the Warfront, the faction has a portal teleporting you to the Warfront zone, rare spawns and a World Boss that awards loot once per contribution cycle (their loot will only reset once the faction loses control of the Warfront, then regain control of it).
Launching a Warfront
Warfronts will use a system similar to the Broken Shore buildings - Your faction needs to collect resources to trigger them. Once enough resources are collected, your faction will be able to launch a Warfront assault. You are able to turn in three different contribution quests per day, until the contribution effort is complete.
Each turn-in rewards a sizable amount of Azerite and reputation with the
7th Legion
or
The Honorbound
.
Learn more in the Launching a Warfront Through Contributions Guide!
Launching a Heroic Warfront
Heroic Warfronts will use the same system as regular Warfronts but you will need to queue with a premade raid group. Keep in mind, the health and damage of enemies will scale based on how many players you have after 10, up to 30 players.
Warfront Queue Requirements
Warfront queue requirements are updated in Season 2:
You must be level 120 and ilvl 320 to queue for the Arathi Warfront.
You must be level 120 and ilvl 335 to queue for the Darkshore Warfront.
Heroic Warfront Queue Requirements
Queuing up for Heroic Warfronts will have different requirements than a Normal Warfront.
You must be level 120 to queue for the Arathi or Darkshore Heroic Warfront.
You must be in a premade raid group to queue for the Arathi Warfront.
How Warfronts Work
The first Warfront is the Battle for Stromgarde in Arathi Highlands. These are the core mechanics to the Warfront:
Resources -
There are three types of resources that are used in Warfronts. They can be seen on a special panel that can only be seen in Warfronts. Iron and Wood are used to construct and upgrade buildings to various extents, while the rare currency Essence of Storms is used for the powerful
buff.
Buildings -
There are different buildings you can construct. These aid in the production of troops, fortified weapons and armor, and creation of vehicles. We recommend you build in the following order:
Stromgarde:
Great Hall > Barracks > War Mill/Altar of Storms > Stronghold > Workshop > Fortress.
Darkshore:
Tree of Life/Great Hall > Ancient of War/Barracks > Altar of Elders/Storms > Tree of Ages/Stronghold > Glaiveworks/Plagueworks > Tree of Eternity/Fortress.
Bases -
Players can take a base from the enemy team after capping a flag and defeating the nearby named NPC. Capturing each base provides different benefits.

Arathi Highlands Mechanics
and
Darkshore Mechanics
Guides.
The team that launches the Warfront assault is always going to win, as to prevent a single faction dominating Warfronts forever. US and EU realms will be on the same Warfront cycle. The Warfront is completed once the Stromgarde Keep Enemy Commander is slain.

History of Stromgarde
In
World of Warcraft Chronicle: Volume 1
we learn that Stromgarde, originally named Strom, was the capital of the great kingdom of Arathor.
In the Second War, Stromgarde was a powerful harbor city which allied itself with Lordaeron against the Horde.
Stromgarde left the Alliance after the Second War due to a falling out between Thoras Trollbane and King Terenas of Lordaeron--Trollbane wanted Terenas to annex part of Alterac to Stromgarde as thanks for the kingdom's sacrifices.
In the Third War, Stromgarde assisted Jaina Proudmoore in her Kalimdor expedition. Tragically, Thoras was murdered by his son, Galen.
At the start of
World of Warcraft
,
is overrun with various races like Ogres and the Syndicate. In Cataclysm, Galen was killed by the Horde in
and pledges his loyalty to Sylvanas in
.
In Legion, the Death Knight class campaign has you raise four new Horsemen. One of these is
in the following questline:
,
,
,
,
. At the start of the campaign, Galen is an independent ruler, split from the Forsaken, who offers to help you... But you end up killing him after he does not keep his word.
In Battle for Azeroth, the Alliance has control of the Eastern Kingdoms, as Undercity lies in ruins.
The fight in Eastern Kingdoms focuses on Arathi Highlands, a strategic location for both factions. The Alliance wants to secure it to block Horde attacks from Silvermoon, while the Horde wants it to re-secure their footing in the North, and be in close proximity to Gilneas.
History of Darkshore
At the start of
World of Warcaft
, Darkshore is an Alliance zone and the second Night Elf themed zone, all the way from Classic WoW to Battle for Azeroth, with the port city of Auberdine as its main hub.
The zone was heavily affected by the Cataclysm, with many points ravaged by the elements and Auberdine destroyed. This did not stop the Night Elves from maintaining control of the zone, moving north of the coast and building Lor'danel.
The Cataclysm also brought the Shatterspear Troll Tribe to the northern part of the zone, promptly recruited to the Horde by then Warchief Garrosh Hellscream.
In
Jaina Proudmoore: Tides of War
, the Horde set up a blockade trapping the Night Elf fleet at Darkshore and Feralas. The Alliance sent false intelligence about attacking the blockade, attacking Durotar directly instead.
Darkshore became a battleground between the Horde and the Alliance during the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch event,
War of the Thorns
. The battle ends up in Horde victory, as they surpass the Alliance blockade and ends up burning Teldrassil, obliterating the Night Elf zone.
At the beginning of Tides of Vengeance, Darkshore is in Horde control, with Tyrande Whisperwind taking matters into her own hands by performing an ancient ritual to become the
Night Warrior
. Alliance forces led by Maiev Shadowsong will try everything to relinquish control of the zone back to the Alliance.

missing horde mail
评论来自
Eluvia
There needs to be a non skirt version for mail, otherwise it is a big fail.

Leare315
As a horde player, the alliance sets are spot on. I'm absolutely in love with the mail and leather sets. The leather set in particular is gorgeous at each tier, probably the best series in the game. The plate's no slouch either.
Horde stuff is great but I giggle at each evolution series. MOAR SPIKES!

Warfronts will probably be one of those features that is either going to be very poorly developed and turn into another Arathi Basin Battleground, or just not be implemented at all. Way too much here. They always overestimate what they are going to put into expansions.

Dharay
Think the Alliance sets takes the pot on this round. The leather and mail are my favourites and look surprisingly good at every tier,
although I find the kilt on the mail a bit odd.
<- This is no longer accurate, since it was written when the mail set's kilt was the standard full length look. This new tunic appearance is a great look.
The Horde sets aren't "bad" but they aren't that good either and which has been mentioned before, every tier is just "More studs and spikes!".
Also, both Horde and Alliance's plate shoulderpads are way too oversized if you ask me.

Do anybody knows about the minimum level to enter one of these?
I mean, only for full level players (as I assume with the island expeditions) o you will be able to maybe gain exp and level in one of these warfronts?
评论来自
xhlb69x
Are the sets something that you have to collect on both Alliance and Horde? Or will it be something where if you collect an appearance on Alliance it will be collected for Horde as well?

I haven't seen any information regarding this anywhere - so here it is:
In order to join the warfronts you need:
Be Level 120
Finished the Quest to obtain World Quests, which requires you to be friendly with the 3 Kul-Tiran factions.
(Proudmoore Admiralty, Storm's Wake, Order of Embers) which respectively represent the 3 quest-zones.
Quest:
统一库尔提拉斯
After handing in the quest, you will get a quest from
莱斯顿·卡尔恩
where you are send to the Arathi Highlands to familiarize yourself with the landscape and to learn a bit about the warfront.
Careful though, the enemy NPCs are Level 122 and will most likely kill you if you are fresh 120.
You have to meet 2 (now 3) NPCs - one at the Lumber mill and the other at the Mine. And you have to take a quick flight from Grayson Bell.
You can fly here!
Return to the base and hand in the quest, now you are send back to Boralus, it isn't completely clear where Yvera is at - but you may look by the throne.
Also I noticed, that she offers a handful of quests - one of these offers a 340 ilvl cache, the others azerite & ressources
Congrats, now you can join the Warfronts and no, you
cannot
fly in the Warfronts.
As far as I've seen it, the first time a warfront opens, you can pick up a quest at
莱斯顿·卡尔恩
for a box with item-level 370 gear. But you will also get a 340 for completing the warfront -
this is repeatable
. These items can war- and titanforge.
@Neryssa - if you want to use this post as a prereq for warfronts in your guide - it's fine by me.
To Clarify (again): You may fly in the normal Arathi Highland as usual, but as soon as you queue up for Warfronts in Boralus and you join the instanced raidgroup, you won't be able to fly.

so do we just que up for these from some npc in town (once the count is 100%) or how does getting in work?

Can I queue up for Warfronts with friends from other realms?
My friends and I are deciding if playing on the same server would be worth it, since we can do most content cross realm anyway. We have one question though:
Can we make a cross realm party, queue up for Warfronts and play together? I know Warfronts are region wide. We are in the same region. But I can't find any info about the Warfront instance being cross realm or not.

The Warfront intro theme plays in the very north-western area of Southern Barrens near the Alliance outpost, only in a very small area to the north of the outpost and around the crack in the earth made by the cataclysm. Definitely a big hint at a warfront coming to the Barrens at some point.

If anyone wonders.
Quests are
weekly
.
Loot from rares is also
weekly
.
Alliance Quests - From Yvera Dawnwing
Horde Quests - Druza Netherfang
(Have to say the Alliance did also get the better looking armor sets. They are very good looking sets!)
UPDATE:
After the weekly reset killed a rare and got 0 loot.
So loot from rares is actually based on warfront cycle.
We should get loot again next time the Warfront changes.
Clarifying this. You will get loot again when your faction takes the warfront again.
Example: Horde controls Warfront, you kill rares and get loot. You will get loot again not when the Alliance takes control, but even after that when the Horde takes the warfront again.
Basically loot from rares is available again every time your faction takes the warfront.
Quests are also warfront control based. Not weekly or daily.
So loot + quests up again, when the Warfront changes.
Also, easy way to get to Arathi when ones faction does not control it. Portal to Twilight Highlands and fly.

The Elemental Goliaths battle buddy items may be on a day timer, they can be retrieved daily from the associated Rares. I took out all four, went back to Boralus to log out, and the items disappeared from my inventory the next day. Use 'em or lose 'em folks!

I'm a bit confused by Warfront changeover times. According to the information I've read so far, Alliance should hold the Warfront again but (at least on my EU realm) Horde are still stuck at the Battle For Stromgard part. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

This guide is missing a lot of information. Doesn't tell you even the basics (what to expect when doing the quests, etc) and doesn't even make clear as to the differences in the zone when your faction owns it or not.
Just a few basic questions it doesn't answer:
- What ilevel should I be?
- Should I join a group?
I'm doing this for the first time and I'll answer a few here:
- There are raid groups on lfg for rares. But, if you're in a raid group you can't do the quests (but you can kill the rares very easily).
- In theory you can do the quests solo, but you need to watch for bands of the opposite faction. I also had a very hard time doing the quests solo since there are rares mixed amongst and the quest mobs tend to be level 121 (and have elites mixed amongst them). So if possible I'd suggest a 5 man group (can't be a raid though).
- When you're looking for a group in lfg make sure you find a group with your War Mode (off or on). e.g. if you have War Mode on and get in a group with War Mode off you won't be able to see each other.
I did this on an alli and a horde (when alli had the zone) and the differences were:
- Horde didn't have a portal to the zone (you have to fly there, use the portal to Dal Crater in Legion Dal).
- You could still kill the rares but seemed like the gear drop rate was lower (just guessing here). Edit: I think the drop rate is the same after doing this on a few toons.
- Of course there is no World Boss since you're killing the other factions vehicle.
- No quests if you don't have the zone.
As an example I'm doing the Ogre quest on a pretty much freshly dinged 120 and I had a lot of problems. Couldn't even kill the elites that patrol the area without using pots.
Did the witherbark troll quest and it had 119 normal mobs, some 121 normal and some 121 elites.

Just got my fourth (identical) piece of 7th Legionair’s Bracers from the Arathi front. So, either I’m missing the point or this Warfront thingy is a complete waste of time…
Edit 2018-10-18:
OK, got now some different pieces on 3 more runs. Seems I just had really bad luck as I wrote the post.

I've run through the Warfront scenario three times now and it seems like I'm missing something critical - like a purpose. It just seems so unstructured and chaotic. No one leads and everyone does their own thing. Then suddenly - after maybe ten minutes - the battle is won and I'm teleported away. I should point out that I join the Warfront via the table in Boralus.
Who has time to upgrade the Barracks, War Mill and/or Altar of Storms? I'm lucky if I can recruit a single Knight and maybe a dwarf-gunman before the scenario is over. The rewards haven't been upgrades, either.
If anyone has any good experiences or advice that would make Warfronts more enjoyable, I'd be glad to hear them.
