Best Vengeance Demon Hunter Talent Builds
is for mixed DPS and Survival,
for defensive build
for small dps bump/targeting at player,
for dungeons or when you need a grip
for most DPS and smoothest Healing
for progression or specific strategies,
all around defensive gain when the other two aren’t required,
good for magic damage/when you want an extra cd/general use.
NOTE: These are simply cookie-cutter vengeance demon hunter builds, and they will vary based on bosses/dungeons/affixes/player preference/group comp/etc.
This build is for when you are able to hold aggro and want to gain the maximal amount of survival. Note that most find it very boring, but the strength of the build defensively is easily the strongest. It will not be used except in extreme circumstances.
Tier 1 (Level 99) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This provides 2 extra Infernal Strike per minute. This means that you will have 5 total casts per minute of
. This provides a large mobility boost if it is required for certain bosses due to the extended range and the 12-second cooldown on
. As for DPS, it is viable with
for AoE. Meaning M+ or multi-target encounters where they will be alive most of the time.
: This can be used for the movement speed, however
is superior for movement and DPS.
: This talent is underperforming at the moment although it may see use later on with more haste. It will rarely be used currently.

Tier 2 (Level 100) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This talent causes your Soul Cleave to additionally apply a healing over time effect on you, providing a consistent source of healing between casts. The overall healing on this is underwhelming, and it is never used.
: This talent causes each damage instance of the initial damage from Immolation Aura to have a chance to shatter soul fragments. What this means is that it has a chance to proc PER target. You can generate a max of 5 souls with this ability. As opposed to
, this causes much spikier healing, removing the consistent healing between
s that Feast of Souls offers, but making each
heal for more in bursts. This works well in conjunction with
for soul generation in Dungeons. Which is pretty much a must-have when using any of the three in dungeons. This is the DPS talent of choice on this row.
: Spreads your
debuff from the primary target every 2 seconds starting with the 2nd second. So you will have your primary plus 4 enemies, for 5 total enemies with the debuff. Every time it spreads it gives the full duration of
. The DoT this talent applies is applied to every enemy affected by
. The 40% damage reduction and
are also spread. Overall this talent is extremely weak and will rarely see play.
Tier 3 (Level 102) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This causes Infernal Strike to also plant a
at the landing location. This talent is an AoE DPS increase. When taking this,
should always be used almost on cooldown, only saving charges for when movement is absolutely necessary. You will then continue to "weave" this with
in order to maximize the uptime. (explained in the rotation section). This option is considered the best in the row, as Felblade is terrible (see Felblade Description) and Charred Flesh provides a smaller dps increase.
: This talents DPS increase is minimal and is the weakest in the row. It will rarely see play.
: It is a single target charge that can be used up to 15 yards away, generating 30 pain. Each cast of
have a chance to reset this cooldown. This talent is currently rarely used, as Flame Crash provides more dps with Abyssal Strike and it doesn't provide a defensive gain.
Tier 4 (Level 104) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This talent grants you 5% leech baseline and causes
to grant 25% leech, increasing the total to 30% leech while
is active. The healing on this talent is underwhelming and it cannot compete with the other two talents in this row.
: This talent causes each soul fragment you consume to also decrease the cooldown on
by 0.5 seconds. It works well with Fallout on AoE and provides a small uptime bump to
on ST. If you want as much active mitigation uptime as possible and the fight involves little movement, this is the go-to talent.
: This provides the most DPS in the row and allows for spawning souls in bursts. Allowing more burst healing and damage. It replaces
on your action bars as well. This will be the primary talent to take in most situations. (More info in the rotation page)
Tier 5 (Level 106) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This talent will increase your DPS, synergizing very well with
. On the other hand, it will remove some possible utility by removing the ability to target sigils. This is generally taken in raiding as it places the sigil on yourself (many don't use macros) and it provides a small DPS gain. Our CC sigils aren't as needed in raids, otherwise, one of the other choices would be taken. This row is preference and scenario specific.
: This ability causes all sigils to activate 1-second faster (1-second explosion) and reduces their cooldowns. Our CC sigils aren't needed in raids so this won't see much use there. In M+ this provides more CC, though it competes with Sigil of Chains grip ability. It reduces the CDs too: Flame - 24, Silence - 48, Misery - 72. This row is preference and scenario specific.
:This talent gives the
ability. This is an AoE grip to the center of the targeting circle. It is useful for grouping up ranged and caster mobs. The grip also cancels whatever cast the enemy may be doing. This row is preference and scenario specific.
Tier 6 (Level 108) Talents for Vengeance DH
: This has an rppm proc rate and has a chance to give
when consuming a soul. This talent is strong defensively and is the best for high keys or when you need the survival in a raid environment.
: This is the best option at the moment. This consumes all souls and explodes for 8 yards around you. Applying Frailty, a 10% leech type effect, (this doesn't actually give or effect leech) to those targets. This provides the highest consistent healing of this tier as well as the highest overall damage.
: This is an ability that has a cooldown of one minute. It deals some damage in a frontal cone AoE, as well as providing large amounts of healing during the channel if you hit an enemy. This is the weakest talent on the row in most situations currently.
Tier 7 (Level 110) Talents for Vengeance DH
: A strong choice for progression content. It can save wipes and save a battle res. You can use it to avoid a mechanic if needed. Once every 8 minutes, instead of taking fatal damage, this will heal you to 30% HP instead and activate
. It does not stack with
, it simply refreshes the duration of
if this procs during Meta.
however does add 5 seconds to the timer instead of a full refresh. With how hard higher end M+ can hit, this is still a strong choice in case you need an extra cooldown.
: This is a general purpose talent. If the other two options are not viable or not required for a fight, this will provide a small amount of damage reduction. This is still viable with the talent
, as you will still need to dump pain with
: Will be the best for Magic intensive fights or when you need an extra cooldown up regularly. You can use this in conjunction with
to build souls with one beforehand, cast
, then build souls with a secondary ability. I.e. build with
on AoE),for maximum effectiveness on the souls. If you are using this with
, then it is better offensively to use spirit bomb then use Soul Barrier when you have no souls or as little as possible. Then it will keep adding to the absorb via the extra souls consumed. While the buff is active, any souls consumed will add to the absorb.
War Mode for Vengeance Demon Hunter
A new change in BFA is the addition of
. War Mode is a new World PvP system in the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, along with the new Honor system and Honor Talents. You are now able to toggle War Mode while in Stormwind or Orgrimmar to gain access to PvP Talents in the outdoor world as well as other bonuses, like increased rewards from World quests and 10% extra experience. The downside is that you will always be in PvP combat mode, with the rewards counterbalancing that risk.
With that in mind, not all talents give the best throughput for your Vengeance Demon Hunter. We've selected the best options for you to use while doing outdoor content with this mode turned on. Keep in mind that these are the best options for PvE activities and may differ from those used when fighting other players.
War Mode bonuses may now scale up to 30%, based on how imbalanced is the PvP situation against your faction. On top of that, you will be able to turn off War Mode in any resting area, like smaller cities and inns, allowing you to leave unfavorable situations if you so desire.
The first talent does not matter, however I will be taking
