Changes to the fight for Looking for Raid and Heroic difficulties are listed below in their respective sections, including tips and strategies for dealing with the new mechanics introduced in these difficulties. The Mythic Guide has moved to its own page which can be found by
Varimathras is a single phase encounter in which the raid needs to kill the boss before the strict enrage timer. The fight revolves around the idea of minimizing the shadow damage you take through group coordination to avoid gaining the devastating healing reduction debuff known as

As these spawn they have a few moments delay before they do their first tick.

This marks a random non-tank player, and after 5 seconds the boss will send out a shadow version of himself in the direction of that player.
This shadow version acts as a projectile, that will be absorbed by the first player that it contacts.
This deals a burst of shadow damage and knocks that player back.
To deal with this you should have a mobile melee DPS, such as a Rogue, Demon Hunter or Warrior, take this hit. They can then use their mobility to counter the knock back, which ensures they are never more than 8 yards away from any other player.
The raid should stand a few yards away from the boss to ensure that the desired player can easily soak the hit from this ability.
If you are unable to have a player

Raid Finder Difficulty
Aside from numerical changes, in which the damage from the abilities has been severely reduced, there is one major mechanical change to the Varimathras encounter on Raid Finder difficulty.
On Raid Finder difficulty
has been removed, allowing players to be far more reckless with their intake of shadow damage.
Players should still continue to follow the strategies described above, as this is the best way of avoiding unnecessary damage.
Alongside numerical changes, in which the damage from the abilities has been increased, there are several mechanical changes that have been made to the Varimathras encounter on Heroic difficulty.

An additional ability has been added to the encounter:
is a debuff placed on a random non-tank player.
This debuff lasts 6 seconds, and when it expires the player takes a burst of shadow damage.
At this same time, the debuff will then attempt to jump to anyone within 10 yards.
This will spread like a plague, coating the raid with the debuff and then

The person with the debuff needs to move 10+ yards away from the group, let the debuff expire and then return to the group.
This player needs to be topped up by the healers before leaving the group, as they will get hit by both the

Hi all. I have started creating some boss overviews and strategy guides for Antorus. Built mainly for my raid but hoping to spread the love and maybe they can help you all out as well. You can find them here...
. They are somewhere between Fatbosses videos and these full blown guides in terms of usability. They are also heavily dependent on the great work of the Fatboss guys so kudos to them. Good luck and happy hunting
How awesome was it to see Varimathras return to bring chaos? On normal the mechanics weren't too much to handle, but I'm looking forward to what he does on higher difficulties. Here is a video of our group defeating him on the first day Antorus opened up.
the author makes it sound like Shadow Strike is a cone ability only on heroic. It's a simple case of expressing it wrong. It's a cone ability regardless of difficulty only the dmg changes.
The Undercity was merely a setback.
So heads up, pretty sure the 'Soft Enrage' timer is now FIVE minutes, not SIX as listed above.

The guide appears to be missing DPS in the Role Responsibilities.
for any DK's: you can use/abuse
to avoid taking
(it won't remove it, just prevent it)
this is especially helpful when tanking is going messy, or if you're the dps taking the knockback
you can also use
to keep yourself alive through the raidwide damage, if healers can't give you absorb shields
You don't realy need to do this walking-swap-thingy as tanks on HC, you can stay on his left and right hand and just taunt swap him, makes the fight pretty easy on hc :)
The strange thing is that I do not understand how in this event, they put Christmas decorations and a sock on his horns ?.
perhaps the Shivarra is too cruel to treat it as a Christmas ornament to the Dreadlord in loincloths.
Is it possible to kill Coven before him. And if so how does the dialogue change?
One important note on Marked for Prey is that this will also apply the Misery debuff to whomever soaks it. So that player needs to be prepared, maybe prepare some kind of damage avoidance (like a WW Monk’s
what is dps supposed to do?
you have tank and heals listed, but not dps?
Under Role Responsibilities for Healers:
"Players with cannot receive direct healing, although absorbs and spirit link works."
I believe you meant , just to clear up any confusion.
Healers, I recommend that you take the
from the Antoran High Command,
specifically to cheese out
. The shield will eat both the Embrace and
Alone in the Darkness
, reducing a lot of stress from the fight. 2 healers can take turns with their trinket to cheese out this mechanic entirely.
