This set is one of my favourites, although the color of the pieces don't match 100%. There is a way to solve this problem, but none of them are perfect.
If you want to keep the
deep purple/blue line design
If you want to keep the
black/white line design
The deep purple/blue line design has a 100% matching shoulder item
although the only matching (recolored deathbone) belt is no longer available in the game. The black/white line design matches 100% on the body, but hasn't got any dedicated shoulder slot item.
As long as accessioires goes I'm confused a bit. There are many many items to be used with this old school set. I think this set does not need a cloak (I'll hide it for sure) but if you want one i think
would match both colors. or you can use
with the black/white line design. One good shield is
since it has the same brutish and strong appearance as the set. For tanking (1h) weapons I have some tips, but i'll post 'em later since I'm not really sure about them and I don't know their names. What I'm sure of if I'm gonna use this set to DPS (as a fury warrior) then I'll dual-weild
if I need swords or
if need maces. (There are many many many maces 90% similar to this model so there are plently of to choose from) Those weapons match the most, I think, with their oldschool non attractive dark/smoky looks. They are simple and they represent power, strenght and death. just as the set.
If there is an enchant that makes them glow black (as an enchanter, I'm ashamed not to know this) please share the information. Black glow would look absolutely cool on them.
Based on the excellent guide above, here is my protection (1h sword + shield) suggestion for tanks :
Helmet is a common green item so your best chance here is checking the ah quite often, sword however is a random drop from a summoned boss in Scholomance named Kormok and you need someone with
. to get your chances with this unique 1hander beauty.
Ps: Sword is claimed to be no longer available within the game by wowhead, but I got mine two weeks ago and I can confirm it is still obtainable as long as you can get access to the item above !
Another good option to go with this set are
, which have blue highlights matching the legs and chest.
I prefer to keep the purple/blue theme, although i havent found a shoulder that i like yet.
*edit-- I just found one that i love! she will look bad a$$ now!
This set uses the really striking "D6 Plate" artwork.
As noted above, it's a mash-up of two different colour variants: silver-black (officially "Black") and dark red-blue (officially "Dark"). It's a shame they couldn't have settled on a single colour and made one decent, awesome, set out of it.
There are six colours of this set in the artwork database and all but one have at least a couple of pieces in the game. Sadly none are complete. Some of the pieces are quest related and may no longer be available to you.
Dark red-blue (officially "Dark"):
Deathbone Guardian (Recolor)
(listed belt is removed from game)
Silver-black (officially "Black"):
Deathbone Guardian (Recolor)
Icy blue (officially "Frost"):
(only chest and belt still available)
Blue-yellow (officially "Sky"):
Deathbone Guardian (Recolor)
(chest, bracers and belt missing)
Blue-red (officially "Blue"):
Zandalari Vindicator Plate
(no matching shoulders) added in patch 5.2, also two older belts:
Green-yellow (officially "Green"):
no transmog page, see
for appearance and pieces (only shoulders, chest, bracers & gloves)
Finally, there's at least a chestpiece of a black-and-red set that uses the "Blood Knight D3" artwork, which is pretty much the same style as this D6:
If you want the deep purple chest with blue highlights, an alternative is to obtain
from Skul in Stratholme (Crusader Side)
While Scholomance is easier to farm,
has a 29% drop chance compared to the depressingly abysmal 4% (and below) chances for
from Scholomance bosses.
EDIT: While Skul has a higher drop rate, he is also a rare elite and caused me much frustration in resetting Stratholme in vain attempts to get him to spawn, and the times he did, he dropped different items...
One more option is to obtain
from a quest reward related to the Blood Furnace instance in Hellfire Peninsula (
). If you're fortunate enough to not have done this quest already long ago and vendored the item, this is the easiest and least frustrating way to obtain a lookalike piece.
However, since the 4.3 BC and WotLK instance changes (reworked to provide quest givers just inside the entrance of every instance), a completely new quest possibly provides vendees to get another chance for taking the easy method to obtain this chestpiece.
i really liked the blue/purple so i tried my best to complete the set. i ended up with
i'm stuck on the belt, because there is an absolutely perfectly matching belt but it was removed from the game a long time ago
here is what i used to make this set for my DK:
if u want to farm the deathbone chest and leggs from scholo, u can, but the 2 items i linked are the same and guaranteed from a quick dungeon quest or a netherstorm chain.
If you did the quest line that rewards
prior to patch 4.3, you can do it again now that they have made the quests easier to obtain by putting the quest givers inside each instance. It appears to have reset the dungeon quests that one had completed prior to the patch.
In Burning Crusade, I did this quest and used these shoulders for quite some time before I deleted them.
After realizing that I was able to do quests in WotLK dungeons (after 4.3) that I had completed in the WotLK expansion, I went into Old Hillsbrad only to find that I was able to pick up the start of this two part chain for these shoulders again.
So if you know you did it before 4.3 and think you can't get these, go in and see.
Anyone have a good helm suggestion for the blue/purple set?
I have this set on my Dwarf DK. For the head, I'm using
, but also have
. I like the full head, and "skull" look of the PvP helm, but, on my Dwarf, the spikes from the shoulders,
, run together with the horns on the helm. Something with broader shoulders might not have that problem. The PvP helm is the current Honor Points buy, and the other one drops from the chest at the end of Heroic Hellfire Ramparts. I got lucky and mine dropped the first time. Added a screenshot with the PvP helm on, I do have one with the other helm if wanted. Happy hunting.
I guess I should add, this set is strictly a Transmog set, for me, no attention was paid to beneficial stats to my character.
Shoulderplates of Frozen Blood
match this set fairly well if you dislike the warchief's mantle model.
Lord Victor Nefarius <Lord of Blackrock> is wearing the Purple/Blue set on his throne in BWL (see submitted screenshot).
I grabbed this set on my female night elf DK, using
for belt since there doesn't seem to be a belt matching the original artwork and also a pair of
s. If you're also using this set on a DW DK, the phantom blades sheath crossed on your back (looks ridiculously epic) and also match the color of glowy DK eyes EXACTLY as well as some runeforges. Since my DK is somewhat of a hipster (I've been rolling frost since before it was cool) I thought ice swords paired with some of the great frost spell effects like HB was extremely appropriate.
Aesthetics aside, there is also another recolor of the D6 plate that was not mentioned above, which is an icy blue color. This set, the Icebane plate, was originally available in classic Naxx. Some of it (chest and belt) can still be obtained easily as crafted items from Wrath, some (gauntlets, bracers and original chest) are still available in game and can be crafted by smiths who have the original recipes, and the rest (legs, shoulders, helm) are no longer available in game. While boots with a name and stats to match the set
are available as a crafted item, they do not match the artwork. It is interesting to note that this is (as far as I know) the only D6 plate recolor to have a matching helmet. The Icebane plate looks like this:
Furthermore, for anyone wanting to compare the "Dark", "Black" and "Sky" recolors of this set, head out to Blood Watch on
. There are three Vindicators in the middle of the village wearing this armor. I'm also submitting a screencap of these guys, so hopefully it'll be approved.
Here's what I found while building a set for my warrior:
drop from any of the six bosses occupying the rooms adjacent to the Headmaster's Study in
. On most runs, only 2 or 3 of them will drop a blue item, and most likely it won't be plate; I vendored mountains of cloth, leather and mail armor on my way to collecting all 5 Deathbone pieces. Also be aware that
doesn't drop any Deathbone items. The Deathbone
don't visually match the chest and legs, so the rest of this guide will discuss alternatives to those items that better match the two main pieces.
, also in Scholomance.
Boots of the Unwavering Will
The Prophet Skeram
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj
. Both of these are an exact match for the Deathbone chest and legs.
are the matching gloves for this set. They drop from
in Stratholme (the Gauntlet side entered through the East Gate). Alternatively,
are an acceptable match and they're extremely cheap and easy to get. Any blacksmith can make them. Or if you prefer,
Grips of Sculptured Icicles
are identical to the crafted pair. They drop from
is a reward from
Escape from Durnholde
. If you completed the quest before the quest giver was moved inside the instance, you should be able to repeat it. Although these are the only shoulders that match exactly, some people (like yours truly) might think they're a bit odd looking (on my d
raenei they look more like bug wings than armor). The best alternative I've found, at least color-wise, is
Shoulderplates of Frozen Blood
, which drop from
, the first boss in the
Pit of Saron
, the second boss in
Halls of Reflection
Spaulders of the Giant Lords
are nearly as close a match and slightly easier to get, since most toons level 80 or higher will already have the rep to buy them.
Matching belts are difficult to come by since
the only one made to match
was removed from the game long ago. I used the
Belt of Crystalline Tears
which is far from perfect, but color-wise it's better than anything else I could find. An acceptable alternative is
which is also available from most blacksmiths, but to my eye the blue in it is a bit too bright when compared to the rest of the set.
For my weapons, I found that a pair of
s were visually the best match. However, if you prefer to go old school, a pair of
Barovian Family Sword
s look amazing with
, and technically it's one of the weapons a warrior would have wielded while wearing this armor back in the day. It's also one of the most elegant and distinctive looking swords in the game, imo. My death knight had a little trouble getting
to drop one, but both my paladin and my warrior got theirs on the first try, so you may have similar luck.
I rarely display helms or cloaks on my toons so I didn't bother with them for this set. Likewise, since bracers aren't visible with my gloves on, I didn't try to match them either. Otherwise, I hope people find this helpful.
Edits: I'm updating periodically with new or more complete information. I tried several times to add a screen shot with all the matching pieces, but for some reason Wowhead won't post it, sorry.
i made the full set of the blue and dark purple today and i must say it is amazing! trying to find a helm that gose with this set anyone know of any? i found for tanking that the phantom blade and the wrathful shield from pvp looks very good with it. heres some screen shots of my toon tell me what ya think.
I haven't found a matching helmet for the black/white set, except for
. Damn you blizz for making the only matching helm un-transmorgible!
*First post so i have no idea how to link items lol
