I have kept this armor set on my warrior for years. Always loved the look, and remembered how awesome my warrior was when he hit 40 back in the day.
Is anyone sure these pieces still drop? I have been looking in the auction house for months now, and have not seen a single piece. Also a couple of my toons have made several runs through Dire Maul and despite the odds have not seen any of them drop either.
I farmed this set in DM West before 4.3 hit, killing every treant in the courtyard, then the ghosts on both levels. After that, a instance reset. Surprisingly, only took me 6ish hours to get everything but the belt (even the shield). I can confirm that as of a few weeks ago, it does drop here
I've found that the better place to farm this set is the Admiral's Den in Thousand Needles (the cave at around 91, 82 or so). Full of 38-41 elite ogres that respawn extremely quickly. Still waiting for the pants to drop, but so far I have gotten shoulders, two chestpieces, gloves, belt and boots from here. Very easy to farm this place. These ogres have a chance to drop the entire set, including the shield. See here:
Just started to farm those in The Admiral's Cave in TN. You can find it north - east on the map. In 2 hours I got bracer, legs, chest and shoulders. Next day in 30 min I got 3x gloves so is def worth farming since the respawn timer on the ogres is really high. Sometimes so high that you can get insta respawns after you kill one.
As soon as I get the full set on my female belf paladin, I'll upload a screenshot aswell :)
Edit: Got full set and uploaded some screenshots. The TN cave is real. Took me 2 days to get the full set.
As much as I hate farming I love the look of this set, and I just find it amusing as all get out to be the tank and half naked XD
I'm thinking of getting this set for my draenei pally. I'd love to see tanks faces when the ret pally turns up in this. I just wish there was a mail version, I'd love a set like this on my shaman or my hunter.
A mail set similar to this one is the Black Dragonscale LW crafting set <3
I was aiming to obtain
for transmogrification as to me they are the quintessential two items of this set.
I logged in my level 85 mage (who can conveniently teleport around) to first hunt for
. To do this I went to Thousand Needles to mercilessly butcher
s as the legs are most likely to drop from them which in the end worked out for me.
Ps The Den Whompers are probably a good idea for other pieces as well, because they have an insane respawn rate. You can just keep circling the cave and you will always find alive ones. Put on your favorite music and grind away.
After that I went looking for the chestpiece (
). Initially I tried farming
s flying over the ocean in Thousand Needles. This proved a bit tedious so I decided to try and farm Dire Maul West instead, as the chest also drops from the trash there. I've found this to me more comfortable farming and eventually some pieces and the chest dropped.
A small tip for people trying to farm this set, the two most important parts of it, the chest and legs, both have BoPs with the same model, namely the
Carapace of Anub'shiah
Cenarion Thicket Legplates
, and the remainder of the set can be pretty easily replaced by lookalikes or even pieces that you think suit the set better. This will seriously reduce the amount of time it takes to gather this set.
appears to have an absurdly low drop rate for a level 40 green item - in fact, it's all but nonexistent from what I can tell. I started off in Dire Maul but no Saltstone items dropped there after several clears, so I followed advice posted on Wowhead and went to the Admiral's Den instead. There are 22 or so
in the cave. There must be a minimum population limit because the faster you kill them the faster they spawn, so you never have to stop looting. At level 85 you can easily clear the place in under 2 minutes, including the multiple instant respawns. I looted roughly 13,600 ogres and ended up with 2 each of the head, shoulders, and belt, 3 wrists and boots, 4 pants and shields, and 5 gloves - but the chest never dropped. For people who don't have infinite time and/or patience, the
Carapace of Anub'shiah
may be the only way to complete this set.
Edit: Updated some of the numbers after further looting.
So here is a recent breakdown after trying to hunt for this armor. I spent about 3 hours on my main getting this armor in the Admiral's Cave in TN, I managed to get a full suit within that time so I switched over to my alt to farm it up. Thirteen hours later and I am still farming for the legplates. The problem seems to be that Den Whompers have just too many other drops.
498 Uncommon Drops
I received 7 Saltstone Greaves, 3 Salstone Belts, 4 Saltstone Gloves, 1 Saltstone Pauldrons, 1 Salstone Surcoat, and 4 Salstone Bracers. Don't buy into this "You can get a set in 10 minutes because the respawn rate is so fast", its random and time consuming.
ya these drop off the whompers; the shoulders don't seem to really fit, any thoughts?
goes better with the set than the actual shoulders.
The way to get this set is definatly through killing the
s. I have been farming them in Admirals Cave for many hours now and have got all but the
, while farming the Whompers I am also picking up many greens that also may be acceptable for transmog,
(symoblic plate) is a very nice looking set I am also looking out for as well as the Steadfast and Wardens set.
I have been around lookig for other places to farm for the reaming bits of the set, my second most succesful place was in Capial Gardens were the Eldreth are, on the west side. were several things have dropped in a short space of time.
I have also tried killing
for the chest, but this is a very bad place to farm, having to herd them up on a mount and drop down into the sea to kill them is VERY slow, and so far no greens have dropped from them. If anybody has found a better way to farm these things I would love to hear it.
So..farmed this cave for an hour last night..got a blue weapon drop and the saltstone pants...and numerous silk and mageweave to drop. Logged in this morning and more greens dropped the first hour, again tons of silk and mageweave, but no other saltstone pieces.
Half hour later the gloves dropped.
I'm working on farming this set. Started last night. As far as I can tell the 40's drop saltstone. So far none from 41's The 41 mobs 688 kills so far 32 uncommon 5% drop rate, 1 epic, no saltstone. The 40 mobs 696 kills 53 uncommon 8% drop rate, 1 rare, 1 epic, 8 saltstone 4 gloves, 1 legs, 2 boots, and 1 wrist. Both epics were staff of jordan, Sold one 3k.
For anybody looking to pull off a transmog of
, I've been putting together some suggestions, as she wears mostly this set (legs, chest, gloves, boots and belt) Best thing I've found for shoulders is
although it's a bit dark.
are better for color, though they don't match her model as closely.
As for head, I'd highly recommend just setting your helmet off and breaking out your favorite DK hairstyle. In one artist's interpretation that I saw, he gave her straight white/gray hair that I think looks fantastic. If you really feel like you just can't stand to look at your character's face,
looks somewhat close to what she's wearing. You can probably just grab any 'ol blue cape to go with this but
is especially nice.
is no longer available in game, but a
isn't a terrible substitute. For 2H, I think
is pretty good, it's got the nice ornate detail on the head that looks kind of like her weapon. Keep your fingers crossed that they fix the horrible skin on that in Mists. And of course,
is a solid choice no matter what you're doing.
Finish this off by grabbing
and you should be lookin fly.
Hope you guys enjoy! She's definitely a super cool character and seems under-RPed.
What is the steel grey helm used in the screenshot? It's not listed as a set piece and I don't see anyone mentioning it in the comments...
If you don't care for the named shoulders (blizzard rarely matched good helms/shoulders to early model sets, sigh)
Might shoulders seem to go well with this set:
The recolor from TBC may be a slightly better matching hue, hard to say:
As it has not been mentioned yet,
is the exact same model as the bracers, so if you're trying to ease up your Auction House buying or what not for transmog, just run Stratholme (Crusader Square) a few times, and eventually they should drop from Timmy the Cruel!
Really easy to get. Just go to thousand needles and farm in the cave. In 2 hours I got gloves x2 belt x1 boots x1 helm x1 and other green boes. I suggest you go do the Outland quest to get the legs as it don't take long. I managed to buy the chest on ah for 500g very lucky also I bought the shoulders for 1.5k very happy overall. Got this set within a day :)
Custom Paladin set I made using a few pieces of this set:
Took FOREVER to farm the chest. I must have run Dire Maul trash about 200 times before the dang thing dropped.
I love how it looks though:
For the shoulders, I preferred the
Ornate Mithril Shoulders
. I thought they are nice and small, colour isn't too far off, looks nice and easy to obtain, any blacksmith can make it for you.
is a much better choice than
I decided to farm this set for my Holy Paladin because I really liked the style and colour of the set. So upon reading about where to farm these pieces (thank you to those who listed it here!) I set out and began this long, long journey. I am now going on about 6 hours of farming this set. I have had a ton of Uncommon drops but only 1 Legs, 2 Hands, and 1 Feet on the actual Saltstone set. The belt seems not to like me at all. =/ I would like to bid anyone and everyone good luck if you do decide to farm this set!
Also I would like to note that if you are on a high population server you will have quite a bit of levelers coming through to do the quest in the cave. What I was doing was killing the mobs in the path to and from the entrance to the quest they need to ensure that I wouldn't lose that loot.
GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HUNTING! :)
Skyrixx - Area 52
If you're lucky enough to have recieved
, it matches the set much better than the actual saltstone shoulders.
Love this set! Few of the things I noticed while working with this one were-
Farming was rough and the ah was no different. Transmogs can get expensive or time consuming real fast. No matter which way you go get ready for some work with this one. Also, this set has a slight turquoise color to it in some areas. I really liked this turquoise color with the purple and tried to blend it with the pieces I choose. Additionally, I found that alot of the plate 496 armor does match pretty well (shoulders & crafted hands preferably).
Here's what I put together for my Ret. pally along with a couple alternatives that match the set.
optional, It doesn't match perfectly but just a bit of fun, farming could take a bit as it is from a BC rare spawn
When I first started I wanted the alternative shoulders however, getting through HOF for transmog is not much of an option right now! so If you are lucky enough to have them yay for you :) I do like the pvp shoulders though gives it more of a girly feel to it with the pink and paired with the pink belt
Is pretty straight forward, you can either grind for this through dungeons or you can farm mobs out it Silithus and Un'goro
goes very well with the turquoise color that already is on the set, didn't find many options that matched. Can go with these very easy to get if you can afford the mats. However, the saltstone guatlets work just as well, I found them to be a bit small for my taste.
Pink belt looks great with all the purple and the green one with the alternate shoulders looks fantastic. I personally haven't gotten the drop yet for the green (farming AQ25 weekly for the past 7 months)
You can either farm mobs or do the Terrok forest quest line that gives these as a reward.
were the hardest part of this set, Not many options out there and not to thrilled about the model of these (prefer the chunkier look of plate boots that came out in cata) however you won't find a better match than these!
Weapon (2h) -
is what I went with however there are many options out there
This is what my set looks like complete and the alternative set
While I was farming
for this set they dropped a
For shoulders, I'll go with:
. Here's what the entire set looks like:
Just wanted to add some boots to the list of things that go with this xmog set. For a chunkier boot, look no further than
Several people have mentioned shoulders they thought would go with this set pretty well, especially since the Saltstone model doesn't match. However, one set of shoulders which I think best matches the color scheme would be
, as well as looking pretty good in their own right.
I've been using
for shoulders. They're not really a color match but they are pretty and not far off from the grey on the set and don't stand out much. They fit better than some of the other suggestions here.
So many ugly belfs :L
seems the chest an 1 or 2 other pieces are gonna be plate but the rest is mail? hows that gonna work for tmog people in legion with mail/plate toons?
How is this armor supposed to defend their wearer? I don't know, but it seems to work.
