Pummel keeps the fight in the warrior's control. With only a ten second cool down it's easy for the consummate warrior to stop the most pesky spells. Unfortunately it's on the same cool down as Shield Bash.

Stance-dancing in between would be a royal pain anyways. You'd have to switch to sword & board and chance stances, then hit Shield Bash.
It's a great ability, but I tent to prefer Sword & Board while fighting casting mobs anyhow, assuming they don't die like butter. Spell Reflect & Shield Bash are an awesome combo! Here is a macro that will help in pummeling;
#showtooltip Shield Bash; Pummel
/cast Berserker Stance; Shield Bash; Pummel
If you click it and you have Sword & Board, it will switch to Defensive Stance and Shield Bash, else it will switch to Berserker Stance and Pummel.

The way this ability is calculated in the game makes it considerably less powerful then it should be.
First it checks how much rage you have.
Next it checks your range.
Then it checks your enemies cast time.
Because of this very often it will have a significant delay where it hits between spells doing absolutely nothing but still burning the cooldown and rage.

All interrupts are off gcd, except earth shock but theres a replacement called windshock (does no damage tho). Not sure about shield bash tho

I just recently started playing a warrior seriously and it was sort of a surprise to see that Pummel cannot be used in Battle Stance. I mean, with Berserker Rage now usable in any stance, fear becomes less of a problem for arms warriors but that doesn't stop a mage from standing there protected by an ice barrier (with Blink and Frost Nova on cooldown or whatnot) and literally shoving frostbolts or fireballs into my face as I flail my two-hander around.
Is there something about arms spec I'm not aware of that makes up for a lack of an interrupt, which all DPS classes/specs that can't heal themselves have?
Sure, you could argue the use of Intimidating Shout for interrupting but that's hardly the same thing as Kick, Counterspell, Mind Freeze, etc.

The Unrelenting Assault talent in Arms allows your Overpower to apply a 6 second debuff that reduces the effect of any spells cast by 50%, it functions like an interrupt in the sense that you have to apply it while they are casting.
It's the closest thing to an interrupt you'll get in battle stance.

I'm just noticing that, at this point anyway, it doesn't state that it requires a melee weapon. Does anyone know if it can be used while disarmed?

Having the Titan's Grip talent would destroy the point using a 2h+shield combo because, since fury is generally specialized around berzerker stance, you could just use pummel. Since pummel and shield bash also share the same CD, the point of such a set up would be for naught.
This changes nothing for fury warriors while arms warriors are still stuck without a convenient interrupt for boss fights (Or, to an equal if not greater extent, PvP encounters).
Shield bash, the interrupt availiable in battle stance, requires you to wear a shield. Because of this, you would have to switch to sword&board in preparation for a spell to interrupt, resulting in DPS loss if you switch too soon.
I really hope that Blizzard will one day make pummel available to battle stance also while making shield bash only usable in defensive stance, making arms warrior interrupts become much more stream lined and easier to utilize.
EDIT: The comment I was replying to has been deleted for a while now. It was suggesting that you could use shield bash with a 2h when using a 2h+shield combo in battle or defensive stance if you had titans grip.
EDIT: Pummel in battle stance is here! Now I don't have to rely upon a macro to interrupt anymore!

Pummel should be redesigned to be used in both Battle and Berserker stances. What's the point of limiting it only zerg?
Only warriors have a delay before interrupt. Other classes interrupt at one hit: Mage - Counterspell, Shaman - Wind shear, DK - Mind Freeze etc
It is sometimes impossible to interrupt when you are playing with high latency and low frame rate.
Thus, I think that Pummel has to be redesigned in Cataclysm that it will be usable in Battle Stance also.

no longer costs rage, just like rogue's kick
seems like it has been lowered to the level warriors recieve it
But no matter,with all the abilities other classes get since Cata/mop, low level warriors will get $hat on by priests and paladins
it cannot interrupt instants like Holy Shock or Penance /Rejuvenation either, so expect to die a lot to self-healing classes
