Great Spell espacially at higher levels when the invulnerable time is increased to 12 seconds. Because of this spell many paladins do what is called bubble hearthing. where when outnumbered Paladins will pop their Divine Shields and hearthstone escaping death.

With patch 2.0.1 the handicap on attack speed can be lifted with a Protection talent that reduces your time between attacks by 100%(basically the same as normal attack speed).

But anyways I was just going to say that if you put 25 points in the protection tree, you can put 2 points in the talent Sacred Duty. This will increase your total stamina by 6%, reduce the cooldown of your holy shield by a minute, and reduces the attack speed penalty by 100%. This means that with this talent, you would be able to attack at regular speed while using divine shield.

I'm fairly new to Paladin, but I was wondering if this prevents damage from falling. I read Blessing of Protection, which specifies physical damage protection, Divine Protection which specified physical and spell damage, and this which says all damage. Does this mean that these three have essentially three different degrees of protection ?

Blessing of Protection just protects against physical damage, but Divine Protection/Shield work on everything. All three spells can be used to prevent falling damage. Divine Protection is pretty much the same as Divine Shield, except it has a shorter duration and prevents you from attacking at all. Divine Shield and Divine Protection are self-only, while Blessing of Protection can be cast on party members.

This is incorrect. It merely supresses your threat until the immunity wears off. There has been a number of times where I've used a Divine Shield on the brink of death so my healer can pop off another heal. Removing the shield brought the monster back to me.
A nice trick for Divine Shield tanking is to pop up the shield and use Righteous Defence. You're an invincible tank for 3 seconds guaranteed, enough to give your healers breathing space. Just remember to remove it after the taunt fades.

/cancelaura Divine Shield can be used to quickly remove the buff, so the mob will quickly return to you after you have avoided death. Use it in a macro with divine shield.

It appears that as of 3.0.2 this no longer suppresses threat for the duration. Can anyone verify this? Ive looked around at wowinsider/patch notes/maintankadin and havent found anything to verify.

as far as ive tested it appears you can use this for invinicible tanking now.

What about as an affliction warlock? I'm screwed, plain and simple. No one should be totally invincible and capable of dealing damage at the same time. Especially not for 12 seconds. It'd be fine if they were damage immune but still vulnerable to crowd control, but this just won't do.

this is so bull!@#$ at PTR patch note 3.0.8 this skills no longer 100% immune but instead going to 50% damage reduce, think about how holy paladin will be disadvantage of this skill seriously. All healing class got Heal Over Time except Paladin also Shaman and Priest have fear resist buff ( fear ward and tremor totem). How you heal tank when you got fear in boss fight? Druid doesn't have fear resist buff but his Heal Over Time will help him a lot when he got fear. I wish Blizzard will considered what they doing, why they don't make like Crusader Strike makes Divine Shield to reduce 50% damage instead of 100% for the penalty since a lot of people complain with this because Retribution Paladin can go everywhere kill people with this skill.

No, you can't interact with most objects while bubbled. This includes mining nodes, herbs, flags and chests (pretty much anything with the little cog mouse icon). Blizzard decided it just isn't fair for a Paladin to get those things while not being able to be stopped, unless there's a Priest in the area. Was a fair decision in my opinion.

The nerf that this ability is receiving in patch 3.0.8 is heartbreaking. /wave goodbye to bubble+hearth. /farewell to the legit soloing practice of bubble+bandage. You can't bandage if something is attacking you.

Besides, what is going to be the point of having redundant skills Divine Protection and Divine Shield? This is seriously cutting into a Paladin's soloing survivability.

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I may have jumped the gun a little bit. After re-reading (and re-re-reading) the change, it does appear that instead of removing complete immunity, it reduces your damage output. I think Blizzard should re-word this change a little more clearly.

Oh here's some more info. I think you might be reacting to the Divine Protection change. It DOES allow hits through (which means you DON'T have 2 redundant spells)

Think of it as a pally's shield wall to reduce 50% of all incoming dmg for however long it's up! - just don't be expecting to throw up Divine Shield within 2 min of the 'bubblewall.'

Erm, No is a simple answer to that.

Ever since I started WoW I have played the Ret Paladin till WoTLK.

The class was always easy to play but frustrating because it just did not have the tools to take down opposing classes.

Blizzard's answer to this was to increase the damage significantly and allow the class to faceroll everyone down to the ground.

What should have happen'd is Divine Shield becomes the the 21 point Holy Talent and the class given more tools.

As it stands it is now the easiest class to play but still a class which lacks tools.

Since then I have moved onto playing the Death Knight, Mage, Destruction Warlock and Protection Warrior, all of which require attention to what is going on, careful CD management and dare I say it, skill to some extent.

Yeah you can bubble out of a silence, what you can't bubble out of is your holy school being interrupted like with kick (in which case you can't at all).

Since this hasn't been mentioned, and is undocumented in the patch notes, and does show up on the spell now, the forbearance effect caused by HoP, DS and DP is now 3 minutes instead of 2.

This spell actually makes you immune from the Trespasser! buff which teleports you out of your opposing faction's quarters in Dalaran, thus enabling you to walk straight pass their guards.

While I don't know about Alliance, once inside, Horde players can stay anywhere in "A Heroe's Welcome" without being kicked out, even after the shield fades.

All this is also true for Hand of Protection. Bring your friends and family!

About the air drop, that doesn't work. Mostly.

The quarters are heavily guarded by the bouncers (especially the Beer Garden naturally). However, the inn (A Heroe's Welcome) is totally free of guards.

But I did say mostly, and you can actually with much luck and probably favorable delay fly into the inn from its balconny. I've achieved this once, but failed tens of times.

I confirn, DOES PENETRATE this shield, this is probably a bug. For pvp geared retri paladin Hand of Reckoning can crit for ~70 damage. Therefore, hand of reckoning can be used to stop Your DS/Hearthstone emergency evac, or bandaging, be aware.

I giggle at the fact that only paladins can fluck other paladins during bubble with Hand of Reconing...a taunt ability to boot lol that only the holy damage can penatrate it :D it helps with all my paladin on paladin ganking and they jus cant seem to find out that they have to run like the other peeps now :D

The above comment is no longer true. Divine Protection reduces all damage taken by 50%, instead of making one immune to all damage. Furthermore, Blessing of Protection is now called Hand of Protection , though many still call it by it's old nickname "BoP."

Divine shield can be removed by a Warrior's Shattering Throw and a Priest's Mass Dispel.

Mass Dispel (30 yard range, targeted area of effect, 1.5 second cast, 33% base mana, no cooldown, learned at Level 70): http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=32375

Both are trainable baseline abilities. So, when you use divine shield, keep an eye out for these two classes since they'll usually prioritize removing your shield. Although, this can be used to your advantage, since you can anticipate their next move and give you or your teammates a window to stop or at least delay it via stuns, CC, or interrupts (both require a cast time, mass dispel needs to be AOE targeted and warriors need to be in battle stance).

What the hell is it with everyone about the "Bubble + Hearthstone" combo? I have played the Paladins ince TBC came out, and I NEVER have bubble-hearthstoned out of PvP or otherwise, (except I DID one time in IF) nor have I ever seen a Alliance Paladin hearthstone away from me/someone else, true I don't play on a PvP Server, except I have as of late with friends, still haven't seen a Pally Bubblestone out.

Divine Shield causes you to be immune to all attacks, no matter what attack it is, for the entire duration. It will remove all DoT Effects and prevent new ones from being cast.

During this time, you will continue to generate threat normally, although you will also not have any aggro. How it works is that as soon as the bubble returns, you will return 100% of aggro to you, just like Fade. Another thing to note is this drops you to 0 Aggro, not none aggro. You can Bubble Pull (helpful for the trash of Mimiron), but no one can be near you, nor heal or buff you during the entire time. Divine Shield will not automatically pull you out of combat, either.

There are only two abilities as of 3.2 that will break the shield. The first (which has been around for a long time) is Mass Dispel. When a priest casts this, it will 'show' immune, but it will actually remove the shield. The second is Warrior's new talent: Shattering Throw. While Mass Dispel is the preferred way of removing this useful, but annoying, ability, having a Warrior's Shattering Throw is a good cooldown in Arenas. Prevent the Paladin from sitting pretty, Shattering Throw!

It's called forebearance! The debuff that keeps us from using them within 2 minutes of each other. Please know a little something about the class you're discussing before you post stupid crap! The more powerful bubbles (i.e. full immunity DS) have alonger CD. This is nearly negated by sacred duty, which evens the CDs out so they are very close to forebearance. Forebearance is removed on death. If you can come up with a reason why this system is flawed, please come up with a new one and post it on the WoW suggestion forums. I can tell you that Shattering Throw isn't all it's cracked up to be, compared to Mass Dispel. To do Shatter, you must be in Battle stance, which will mainly be Arms Warriors. ST costs 25 rage, and changing stances consumes all but 10 of your rage, unless you have specific points that will preserve it, so you need to have Bloodrage up for the extra 15. Hitting that will trigger the GCD, and ST takes 1.5 seconds to cast. So, you will still be able to get off several Flashes in the time it takes a person to see it, and cast it, assuming there is a Warrior in Battle, ready nearby that has targeted you.

On top of that, Warriors don't get it until 71, Priests don't get it until 70, Paladins get Divine Shield at 34. So that's 36 levels of being able to laugh at every other class. But don't worry, since Warriors are all melee, if you die, you can come back and cast Hand of Protection and continue to laugh at them, because shatter has a 5 minute cd. But if a Priest dispels your Hand, and you die again, you can come back and hit Divine Protection, glyphed with Salvation, and hey, it's only a 70% reduction in damage.

As for a whole class overpowered? That's a distinction that Rogues have fought hard for, and Death Knights were made honorary life members of. Mages are only a problem for Paladins because you have nothing to close the distance, or slow them down.

Many classes have melee, spellcasts, fears, stuns, slows, roots, and heals.
Only 2 classes can hit complete invincibility.
Only 1 of those classes can still run around, heal, and kill while invincible.
For 36 levels nobody can do anything about it.

It's the very definition of overpowered. I would think it was a glitch, or bug, but it's a legitimate ability. In any other game it would be called cheating.

Lots of abilities are overpowered if looked at in isolation. In the end, "overpowered" is often shorthand for "does something other classes can't do". The alternative is every class having the same abilities with different graphics.

Divine Shield is probably more useful for healers. If you're a Ret paladin and you bubble, you've already lost. There's not much you can do under the bubble except run away that will change the tide of battle at that point. On the other hand, a healer can keep spamming out beaconed Holy Lights from under the bubble as long as they like.

That said, I suspect half the complaints would go away if hearthstones stopped working under bubbles.

Don't go paladin is OP. We really need that stuff to close distance. How else are we supposed to even fight a kiter class? Against a mage we can't do anything really. One bubble to heal or close distance, after that our HoF gets stolen and we won't survive the next shattercombo. A skilled hunter can kite a paladin all day long AND has a pet. We CANNOT kill a resto druid.. It sounds like a L2P issue to me if you have a class that can do some kiting, since pallies are the laughing stock of all kiter classes. Yes we can destroy warriors and DKs in close combat, but really anything ranged can eat a ret pally up. Warriors and DKs both have far better options to close distance then pallies do, honestly.

IF you want to talk OP: take a look at the options a frost mage has to escape or snare/root; Feck they even steal our hand of freedom. Or hunters deterence/trap/disengage. We can't get back in melee against a hunter worth his salt. Or how about druids instant flight form: it's back to kiting after a cyclone. It's not OP actually, i don't think any class is OP since that would mean it's a killer against every other class which no class is. Not even frost mages!

really people, killing a retpally is not that hard if you know your class. Just survive the first burst and then laugh away as you kite us back to the stone age. Or see us coming and laugh while we struggle to get in melee range

Those things can be countered with PvP trinkets (that can be used by every player) and certain racials. It's far more reasonable to assume the player has either one of those than to assume that every player play as priests (or warriors, although getting Shattering Throw can be hard if you start at 0 rage, as you'll need to wait for a few seconds to get the remaining 5 rage).

Both Divine Shield and Hand of Protection do make you immune to falling damage though, as the ground is very much physical. Thus this can be used as a "parachute bubble" to jump from high places, and with Hand of Protection your friend can jump along with you!

Assuming of course your friend trusts you to actually cast Hand of Protection on him before he lands *cough*.

So with Divine Shield and Ice Block potentially breakable, the only ability that grants invulnerability to player or npc attacks is Deterrence.

Divine shield, nickname Bubble

for PVP situations, Bubble gets u out of everything, including stuns, silences EXCEPT the druid cyclone. So if u need to help ur partner out, while ur Cycloned, u cant bubble, its better to save Trink to get out of cyclone.

Pre-4.0, on the original divine shield comments page, I had a comment. It was a joke, a good one, since it was uprated to like 85 before 4.0 came out. Then the patch came, wowhead did its datamining, deleting that version and reverting to this one.

Here is a macro useful for canceling Divine Shield when you no longer desire it to be up and don't want to go chasing your buffs to click it off.

This spell description doesn't mention anything about Lay on Hands, but the Lay on Hands description mentions inability to cast Divine Shield on yourself after Lay on Hands.
Does that mean you can cast Divine Shield and then cast Lay on Hands on yourself; but you are unable to cast Lay on Hands and then Divine Shield in this order?

How to drop a FC surrounded by his team.

Step 1. Divine shield, build up 3 holy power under it. Zealotry.
Step 2. Crusader Strike. 3 pt Inquisition. (Save your Art of War Exorcism procs)
Step 3. Repentance the healer -> he trinkets -> you HoJ.
Step 4. Divine shield fades. Free action potion. (自由行动药水)
Step 5. Blow up FC with Avenging Wrath -> Hammer of Wrath. Exorcism. TV with Hand of Light procs.
Step 6. Profit?

* Forgot to mention the part where you get mass dispelled and globaled ;) But hey if you do this fast you can get some lolretburst moments, enjoy it because there are very few moments like that now. Think I'ma roll a fury war, I hear macroing a bunch of I win stuff to crit ppl is hard.

A pretty useful macro to get quick healing after using Divine Shield:

/cast Dense Embersilk Bandage

Please note that:
1. You should have First Aid @ 500 minimum to use this macro (very easy to do)
2. Bandage usage doesn't share Global Cooldown with Divine Shield so you getting heal straight after hitting the macro
3. This macro saves you lot of mana (more than 50 % of your total pool)
4. You don't need to press "healing" button multiple times as you do in case of casted heals

Though this spell has been nerfed it doesnt mean it is not useful anymore
I think all paladins should have a cancelaura macro of this which shadowaninja said already.
It is extremely useful for dispelling debuffs or CC on you, even some debuffs that are not normally dispellable such as bleeds, and just to name a couple off the top of my head 致伤打击 from Halfus in BoT, and from Nalorakk in Zul Aman (which is nearly 90% of the damage he deals to you in bear form) or sigils that the Archons put on you before they you if your tanking. Debuffs/DoTs that stack to a undispellable point such as 烈焰打击 from the dragonhawks in Zul Aman, Even in pvp it has more usages than just running in with it precasted to gain holy power, try using it to get out of any CC, dots, bleeds, poisons, colossus smash. Disregard the fact that it it is so easy to be dispelled off you and use it not as a emergency when your low health, but before to prevent yourself from getting that low health in the first place.

Basically, anytime where there's bad stuff on you that you want off, when your too lazy to run out of stuff your supposed to run out of, or when you just want to run into stuff that your not supposed to run into....

Just remember to taunt first if your tanking, because it will drop your aggro, taunt only works because of the little "forces the target to attack you for 3 seconds" after that, you better have cancelauraed it or the rogue right next to you is gonna be really angry

Ok guys, here is a tactic that I have found that works. I haven't tried it lately, but if you are leveling a Paladin you can get a 老兵的炉石. It has around a 5 second cast time. You have to be level 80, exactly level 80 to get this. It's from the Warchief's command board in Dalaran. If you wait till 81, then it's too late.

Not sure if they have changed the cast time on it since 4.2, but the last time I checked it worked perfectly fine :D
