This is one of the best things they could give to rogues imo. You can pop it to reemove dots and vanish, or you can pop it before a polymorph, seduce, pyroblast, any other I.W.I.N. spell you can think of. And only a 2 minute cooldown, this is a gift from the heaven.
I can see a Nerf call when TBC is released on the Rogue world. Cloak of Shadows-Vanish-Shadowstep is going to make the Rogue even more deadly in the PvP world. Even if the Rogue is hit by an AOE effect, a quick burst of Cloak of Shadow then Vanish will quickly get the Rogue back into the position to strike.
Yes, Ladies & Gentlement - The Sharks will be roaming the Battlegrounds Hard come TBC
The description says that this is a talent, but it was recently changed to become a trainable skill at level 66.
It is currently a talent in the LIVE servers... but in beta (from what i hear) it is a skill all rogues receive.
The new skill is called Shadowstep and it's unfortunatly not on this site. It is however on thottbot
so if that helps anyone
There's finally something worth going to the very bottom of the subtlety street for : )
Think of it as a bit of a helper against DoTs
Currently as far as I know this skill will become a trained skill at level 66 in The Burning Crusade. It's being replaced by the 41 point talent Shadow Step, which is something like a stealth blink for 10 energy. Many people think these skills will in essence shift the rogue community tword a Subtlety build as the prefered build in PvP.
Cloak of shadows is the best ability against casters. Imagine that you can resist warlock's death coil , paladin's Hammer of Justice etc. That's really awesome!
Btw its cooldown in TBC beta is 1min. ;)
This is a great asset to any build, sword or dagger, venturing into Subtlety, but it will become a trained skill at level 66.
It works best against pesky warlocks ;)
Currently on the live servers, you cannot cast this when you are not in control of your character. This basically means you can't use it to break fear/stun/poly/seduce like will of the forsaken or the PvP trinket. This is still an amazing ability though.
Hmm,i'm an warlock and this is so bad i just laugh at it! i just get an drink and wait 5 sec then cast my imbadeathcoil combo including an backlash!
If you're a dwarvern rogue this ability will basically make you immune to everything... well, not immune, but able to cleanse it once every few minutes.
Cloak of shadows- all curse and magic effects (warlocks, mages, priest and to some extent druids and shamans) Not sure if this works against unstable affliction, it might just hit you with the negative of having removed it...
Stone-skin- Poison, bleed and disease effects (Great for PVE and also Warriors and other rogues)
Insignia of the - Charm, fear and polymorph effects (Which is the remaining abilities of mages, priests and locks (with Succubus))
also Imp Sprint (if you get it)- All slowing and snaring effects (Mages, hunters and Warriors)
Truly a devastating combination, though probably not 100% reliable for PVP due to Cooldowns leaving a chink in your armour...
me being a mage this spell annoys the hell out of me. the best thing i learned to deal with this beside IB through out his cloak was to use my netherweave nets. When he pops on his cloak his immunity goes up to 90%. The net isnt magic. throw it on him and he will be immobile for 3 secs out of the 5 secs. That gives him 2 secs maybe 1 to enjoy it.
it helps me alot. and the spell SLOW is also a rouge killer as well. Seems when i specced Arcane my slow made it thru his cloak on the second instant cast almost all the time. i would spamm slow over and over until it stuck. hopefully this will help you mages or tailors out there.
As in the patch of 2.1.0 "Cloak of Shadows": The tooltip has been adjusted to indicate this ability removes hostile effects, rather than dispels them. "Cloak of Shadows" does not count as a dispel, and will not interact with dispel resistance or effects triggered by dispelling. This ability no longer removes the "Weakened Soul" debuff.
This spell just makes my freaking day. It makes me want to go around challenging warlocks unfamiliar with the spell to duels just to see them freak out and cry. This, combined with a racial like WotF or Escape Artist, and perhaps some of the outlands trinkets (Bladefist's Breath. Massive less-than-three for this thing) makes a 5 minute rogue into a 1 minute rogue.
I used it earlier today to shake off a Blade's Edge mountain raptor's disease. Thats just how useful it is.
I feel that blizzard should make it a 41 point talent instead...it's simply too uber...guess what will happen to a warlock in arena..sap..sap finishes..blind..blind finshes..cloak..
Rogue:Haha you can't touch me
Does anyone know if this will protect/resist warlock's deathcoil ability?
And how about Spellsteal?
I like calling this the 'I win' button against Casters
This spell is useless when fighting warriors because it
work on physical bleed effects.
Is it just me or does CloS + Setup (Subtlety talent) seem a bit OP?
I don't think it's a bad buff for Rogues to have. However, a skill this powerful needs a longer cooldown, and shouldn't coincide with things like the Setup talent (not sure if it does, just theorycrafting).
HOWEVER, if you have a decent raiding guild,
Eye of Magtheridon
basically turns CloS into a buff for everyone if you can survive the 5 seconds it's up.
Is it true that you need 90 Spell Penetration to not get your spells resisted? Because i have almost 90 and was thinking if i should get the WSG trinket for rogues.
I would think an afflict lock with Suppression maxed out would have a better chance at penetrating the CoS.
(Just two ranks of Suppression gives you a 99% chance to hit against the same lv- the highest the game will allow)
Suppression will only give you a 10% chance to hit headstart and only on Affliction spells. Even if you are in raiding gear (bad idea for PvP anyway) and have 202 hit rating AND Suppression maxed out AND spell hit really did help penetrate Cloak of Shadows, you'd still end up with:
4% (Base chance to miss) + 90% (CoS) - 16% (202 hit) - 10% (Suppression) = 68% chance to miss
And 78% on any non-affliction spell. Not much of a help at all, especially since you'd be giving up a lot of stamina and resilience to pump your spell hit up that high and will be squishy as hell. Really, there's not much any caster can do against a rogue who uses this anymore... the only exception being Frost Mages who can Iceblock it out.
And I'm sorry if this comes across as "QQ", but in my opinion there's something wrong when a class can kill anyone from a whole set of classes without them even having a chance of retaliation. I mean, there's literally
a SPriest, Warlock, Non-Frost Mage or any other caster can do about this but wait to die. And this is a trainable skill now, not even a talent.
CoS also removes Poisons and diseases.
I hate this ability so much!! I didn't know about it till I went into a BG last weekend.
I didn't notice the shadowpriest like aura it gives, so I was like "what the F none of my spells work" till someone told me about this ability...
Good thing to know how it works now, so I can adjust my gameplan against rogues using this (if they haven't killed me fast enough already)
I'm an affliction lock. With 5 points in suppression and only +dmg and +crit gear (no spellhit or spellpenetration (or almost nothing, I'm not gearing that way, so if I have it, it's lower then 20)
I was able to put one or two dots on them when I kept spamming on my dot buttons in frustration...
hmm demo locks can, i guess. if they sac VW, instant summon felguard again, then try. sac prob wont hold up for 5 sec, but its enuf. use medallion trink break stun lock and then death coil and start from there?
Here is some help to those who are flippin out cause of CoS... if you got a non magic stun...use it. Any engineering bombs with stun should help. demonology warlocks could use the felguard intercept stun. its just something to think about when facing a rogue and have for that horrible 20sec. that your fighting the rogue.
Just for future reference...
"Does not remove effects that prevent you from using Cloak of Shadows."
What spells/effects prevent this skill's usage?
Will CoS remove the Hammer of Justice stun?
is CoS supposed to remove "Faerie Fire" ?
Cloak of Shadows no longer removes the curse Shrink.
Also known as the rogue crutch
one of the reasons rogues are considered overpowered...
oh c'mon purge it, you can't hide the truth!
I would like to know who else has an ablity like this and who is Blizzard catering to .... As a caster I agree with the before said post this should be in a talent tree somewhere forcing the rogue to spend alot of points into it.
Imagine an undead rogue if it dispelled Whilst in stun / fear, 3 tools to remove CC's = immunities...
Does this stop Cyclone? i have a CYCLONE watcher for my Arena rogue....and everytime we face druid it tells me when he starts casting...havent tried it yet cuz no one casts it on me :(
"I would like to know who else has an ablity like this and who is Blizzard catering to .... As a caster I agree with the before said post this should be in a talent tree somewhere forcing the rogue to spend alot of points into it." Quote : wulf534
If this were to be true then... i think shamans should have to spec 41 to get dual-weild...and mages have to spec 41 for polymorph and Frost nova, if you dont like it think of the Cheat Death nerf INC....
will now be refered to either Cloak of Awesome, or Cloak of Noobs, depending on your opinion
Is the Cloak of Shadow effectiveness limited against a rogue specced with Vial Poisons
It doesn't even cost any energy to use... maybe if it costed 30 energy it would be more balanced?
At the expense of sounding like a sook, I absolutely hate this ability. As a mage I have yet to beat a rogue with this ability enabled. Its not balanced and I simply think its unfair to all casters out there. At least allow us to dispell / spellsteal it?
Truly a devastating combination, though probably not 100% reliable for PVP due to Cooldowns leaving a chink in your armour...
Every other player's abilities have this chink though so it is as "reliable" as anything else. It basically comes down to the length of the CDs, which for all the things you listed is very favorably short.
Yay more whiners!.
Omg people you just dont get it do you.
This game can not be more balanced as it is. Yes rogue is an anti-caster. And since this is NOT meant to be 1vs1 game it is normal that a rogue WILL dominate casters. (omg what a surprise)
Yes rogue is not an anti-plate. And since this is NOT meant to be 1vs1 game it is normal that plate wearers WILL dominate rogues.
There can be exceptions but we are not talking about skill here.
I have a 70 rogue & lock
As a rogue I die a lot against plate wearers (especially warriors -.-) And I am not whining about them being overpowered. On a lock I eat warriors and die by rogues. Thats balance if you ask me. Of course for all of you nobrainers balance would mean that 1on1 you can beat 80% of players out there and be equal to the remaining 20%. You would be really happy if they took CoS awy from rogues so not only you casters would kill plate and mail wearers with ease, there would no more be an anti-class for you. And rogue without a CoS is what? Anti-rogue class and thats it! Good job!
Think about what you want to do to a class and to balance before you post.
I understand dying vs a rogue can be very painful since most of the fights start with with your heart stopping for a second due to an unexpected attack but them getting on your nerves is not a valid reason to get irrational and emo against every ability they have.
Grow up and deal with it. Your class (whichever it may be) is NOT the most powerfull class in the game (and none is - some say that druids are tho. i just dont care) and you are NOT the most skilled player in the game.
And to all casters: learn to play your class the best you can. Then find a group or a partner and go "own" that rogue on the oposite arena team. Just stop this pathetic whining on the forums...
If you cant deal with it go pve...
does it remove faerie fire (feral)?
Cloak of Shadows also doesn't prevent you from getting damaged by magma or lava flows like the ones in MC, SMV, or many other places.
The cooldown on Cloak of Shadows is being increased to 2 minutes in WotLK. However, the ''Elusiveness'' talent will reduce the cooldown back to 1 minute.
Couldn't find it anywhere, but I heard that being Silenced also prevents you from using it?
Anyone else think that this ability just does not fit on a rogue? From an RP perspective I mean. The ability to remove all harmful spells from yourself bypassing all dispel resistances and triggers and become 90% resistant to all magic for 5 seconds really does seem to be a very high level magic spell. The kind of spell a wizard or warlock would have to train for years to get. Instead rogues are handed it free to use once every minute.
Great to use before a Vanish...Gets rid of
every time, allowing Stealth again
Is cloak of shadows supposed to remove Faerie Fire (Feral)?
I think i posted this twice :S my bad.
Good bye, anti-venom ;)
If one put living bomb on a rogue and then he/she uses cos, will it count as a dispell and detonate the bomb?
Until such time as WoW gives me, a demonology/affiliction warlock, a "remove all stab wounds" spell, COS will continue to be the most blatantly one-sided, overpowered ability in the entire game.
As a random trivia, the sound it makes when it's activated it's the same as when you ordered a Zerg Hydralisk to move in Starcraft. Same applies to Shadowform (and any other spell with the same sound).
this spell is a joke from my pov this should belong to a shadow priest but hey is there any other class at this game except rogues NO lol i really hope rogues become the worst class of this game not because im angry or something but im curious to see what all those ppl are going to do xD st my server rogues are almost the 50% and hey even im not sure i think they are at your server that much too lol
This includes Poison for some reason...
Glyph of Cloak of Shadows will now grant CloS a 40% physical damage reduction for the duration as well.
We're not OP at all <.< I mean, would you call god OP when he smites your family? =]
is it me, or does anybody note that the 'blahblahblah for 5 seconds' is more like 3 full seconds instead?
yeah but the thing poofs at zero.
maybe if u could count with a wristwatch it would be a big step for down syndrome warthor.
Chaos bolt ignores CoS so cast away warlocks xD
does this ability work while stealthed?
and you now laugh at any form of incoming melee AoE damage (Warrior Bladestorm for example) for the next 5 seconds. Extreamly handy combination for boss fights where massive melee AoE damage is inc and normally means you should move out, no need to with this combination no matter how high the incomming melee damage is, reducing it by using both the above mentioned should result in a loss of a few thousand HP max unless the incoming damage is something silly, for instance if these work additivly it will be 90% reduction, on a melee AoE of lets just say 50,000 it will do 5000 damage, which is nothing.
The effect this combo has on bladestorm causes warriors to do less damage to you than if they did not pop bladestorm so rogues need not be so rushed into blinding an already in CC warrior to avoid getting an immune on their blind instead just ride out the bladestorm while taking tiny damage then apply the blind(Reason for me saying this is cause I cannot count how many times a warrior has trinked a KS straight into a bladestorm rogue panics upon seeing trink and blinds but just as they blind the warrior is into BS thus immune). It also allows for a rogue to just sit on a warrior for the duration and do damage as normal while taking nothing in return :-)
id really loved to see a week without it! XD
i mean blizz should just remove it for just 1 week god frost mages(...and kinda all casters) whould run a party upon rogues hoho
any1 thinks that 1 min cd (dont tell me that it has 2 every1 gets elusines) is kinda OP? :< i'd give it 4 or 3
ps: i think warriors or retris should take this ability too or ferals maybe it would be fun xD
I'm guessing that it won't remove disease effects eg devouring plague from a priest? Just wondering as I want to stop a rogue from restealthing in arena and SW:P won't do it if they CoS
Diseases aren't magic effects. They're
That being said, yes, CloSkill removes it, even though it shouldn't with regards to the tooltip.
This ability is currently bugged. It does not work. Every single time I have used this ability against a Target, something has broken through it. It does not resist DoTs after they have been applied even with this active, and this has an extremely reduced effect against Arcane and Shadow.
From the Rogue side, I can safely say that this ability is clearly broken. I understand that 90% is not 100%, but for the past few months it's seemed a lot more like 50%...
it seems that this also makes u dodge fall damage i tried punting a rogue out of the air and he just used this ability and took no damage then when he hit the ground he burst me down in a matter of seconds at least i manged 2 mount up far away before he could catch up 2 me and put me in combat.
The animation is like Shadow Priest's shadowform. 100% same.
The feeling is not good when someone make you 9k chaos bolt trough Clos... :S
i saw the combat text is "miss" not resist, but the tooltip said resist, :(
For all you QQers.....mages have polymorph. Bam, no more CoS. Destro locks have that chaos bolt ability, you know, the one that penetrates regardless of resistance? Priests...priests can bubble. Rogues have no heals whatsoever, and are at a disadvantage. I'm an experienced rogue myself, and as a sub, i spend a lot of time in WSG watching other rogues and seeing what mistakes they make. Especially when i was a failure-40 in the level 49 battlegrounds, such and such. Priests make quick work of rogues....holy nova. DoTs. psychic scream. If the rogue gets too close, mind control them a bit further away. Heck, if you're in arathi basin, mind control them
off a cliff.
Always fun. i roll all squishy classes, and i've beaten countless rogues. But a rogue is my cup of tea, so...i suppose knowing them gives me the upper hand? Either way. There's always a way out. Being a sneaking, filthy, dirty rogue taught me so. Just might take some time for you guys to figure it out. (; best of luck. Do hurry, the leather-wielders aren't much of a challenge...an intelligent and efficient squishy that packs a punch is exactly the kind of challenge i'm looking for.
This skill is also widely known as "Cloak of no skills".
I have been using this a lot with little success recently.
At first it seemed that I was making a mistake, or someone just got lucky with a DoT effect landing right after cloak when off but before vanish registered, and the dot would continue to tick.
I haven't tested it yet but it seems that any class with a talent "Your debuffs have a X% (usually being 30%) to ignore dispelling effects" like a paladin's Stoicism seem to also count cloak of shadows as a dispel effect, rather than a removal of the buff entirely, like living bomb.
Hopefully blizzard will fix this as it is our best and only defense against casters besides getting first jump on them.
Either that or make vanish have a built in cloak of shadows effect that removes dots or make vanish invisibility not break on DoTs.
this remove harmful effects no matter what, dispel resistance has nothing to do, and there isnt anything anybody can make for his DoT to survive CoS, except, of course, if that DoT is a bleed, as a feral druid, i LOL when i bleed a rogue in open pvp, and when he's losing, he runs, CoS and try to vanish...sure, walk 1 second stealthed and be pwnd on the next bleed tick :P
...make vanish invisibility not break on DoTs.
yeah.. that wouldnt be OP
No one has mentioned this...
Cooldown is now 1.5 mins, up from 1min. Dunno when it happened.
Rogues frequently complain that they can still be death gripped, even when under CloS. Keep in mind that despite talking about unholy energy,
is part of the
school, which is not effected by CloS' spell resistance.
btw anyone know will cd on CloS will be lowered or stay 1.5min in Cata? coz Elusiveness will be unreachable for Muti spec
For me currently, this ability is making spells miss, not resist. Unsure if its happening for others.
also known as Cloak of Skill
so what does the line "provides momentary immunity against ALL damage and harmful effects" imply? I can use CoS to break blind just like vanish used to do?
Despite what the tooltip says ("...provides momentary immunity against
and harmful effects," this currently does NOT provide immunity against all damage. Seems to be just spell damage, and even then isn't consistent.
I know that Hunter's Mark is a Physical debuff, but would CoS remove it? Or maybe it used to remove in WOTLK? I'm asking because I think I saw more than once a Rogue removing it, and, I think, it wasn't Vanish. If it changes anything, I could've "seen" it back on WOTLK.
As of Patch 4.2, CloS will be nerfed. However,
will be buffed slightly to compensate.
Cloak of Shadows cooldown is now 2 minutes, up from 90 seconds. In addition, Cloak of Shadows is no longer on the global cooldown.
Combat Readiness and Cloak of Shadows now share a cooldown.
Despite the tooltip, this does
remove bleed effects.
This now shares a cool with combat readiness... epic, epic, epic nerf to rogues, however, combat readiness was also changed to fit the same cooldown as cloak, they both have a 2 min cool and elusiveness reduces both cools to 1.5mins, so it's just a choice between using combat readiness or using cloak
Actually, Death Grip is considered in the Shadow school now and therefore can miss/be blocked by CloS.
You'll find that most DK skills are either Shadow or Frost, this is why Death Knights gem for Spell Penetration.
This spell (CloS) will also likely make Hungering Cold miss, esp. might be worth using if you are juked on the cast time and then must either run away in time or resist/trinket the spell.
Cloak of Shadows: ignoring kill mechanics since TBC.
With the talent system changes,
no longer shares a cool down with
Most OP ability against mages.....
In Patch 5.2:
- cooldown reduced to 60 sec (from 2 min).
1 minute cooldown = rogue godmode activated >:P
And as a side not, in case you haven't figured this out already, if you think about it, it's *kind of* a 55 second cd, since it lasts for 5 seconds!
Same thing for other cds that last for a certain amount of time. Listed CD time - CD duration = actual CD waiting period.
At this point in the game, Cloak of Shadows really should be buffed to remove Bleed Effects. These Feral Druids and Warriors are out of control.
It seems to me that the only DOT effect that this skill cannot remove is bleeding.
"Mechanics? What mechanics?"
*Cloak wears off*
"Oh... those mechanics..."
Cloak of Shadows in raids is basically that annoying kid we all knew who would say" Nope I have my everything proof shield, it doesn't work" Except you are the kid, and the raid bosses are everyone else. This is better than ice block in many cases for raids, as you don't have to stop the DPS.
Do not underestimate the value of this skill, there is a VERY good reason most healers adore a rogue joining the raid.
Patch 3.1 Cloak of Shadows has 60 seconds cooldown
Patch 3.3 Cloak of Shadows cooldown is now 90 seconds, up from 60 seconds.
Patch 4.2 Cloak of Shadows cooldown is now 2 minutes, up from 90 seconds. In addition, Cloak of Shadows is no longer on the global cooldown.
Patch 5.2 Cloak of Shadows - cooldown reduced to 60 sec (from 2 min).
Patch 6.2 Cloak of Shadows now has a 90-second cooldown (up from 60 seconds).
Mages can slow trough cloak in 8.0. Fun.
