This strategy guide covers how to defeat the Skorpyron boss encounter and notable trash on all difficulties. Skorpyron is the first boss encounter in

Skorpyron is available the week of January 17th on Normal and Heroic, January 24th on LFR and Mythic.

Skorpyron Abilities
This guide provides tips and strategies for defeating the

encounter on Normal difficulty. Changes to the fight for Looking for Raid, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties are listed below in their respective sections, including suggestions for dealing with the new mechanics introduced in these difficulties.
The Skorpyron encounter is primarily single-target with several waves of numerous low-health adds. One tank should primarily focus on tanking Skorpyron, while another tank should be designated to pick up these adds.
Throughout the fight, the raid will gradually whittle away Skorpyron's armor until he is briefly unprotected, and then will deal extra damage until Skorpyron recovers. Players should save their DPS cooldowns for these vulnerability phases, which occur at 75%, 50%, and 25% health.

The adds tank should round these Scorpids up and pull them to the melee DPS
The raid should use AoE and cleave abilities, as well as AoE CC, to neutralize the Scorpids quickly
Healers should watch the adds tank carefully since the Scorpids become much more dangerous once buffed
As Scorpids in the room are pulled and killed, new Scorpids will file in periodically through the crystal-lined breech in the wall opposite the entrance to the room. Players must take special care not to stand in this area, or else all of these new Scorpids will be engaged, and will likely kill any player near them before the adds tank can get them under control.

Note that standing behind a Crystalline Shard does not prevent you from attacking the boss (unless you are out of range, of course) or healing other players. The Crystalline Shards only LOS the

, so players must position carefully to ensure they can reach one of them in time.

Pick two spots in front of Skorpyron, about 12 yards apart, and side-by-side
Stand in one spot for the first

This will keep the boss's facing fairly consistent and predictable, so that no DPS are ever caught in the

Assign a strong AoE threat tank to be the adds tank, and the other tank to be the boss tank
The raid can clump loosely behind Skorpyron, staying within the decorative circle on the ground

Quickly kill the Crystalline Scorpids, ideally ensuring all adds are dead before

Then pull the Volatile Scorpid out of the melee pile before it dies
In either strategy, the tank is likely to take

damage each time a Volatile Scorpid dies
Volatile Scorpids that live long enough can cast

as well. It is important for the tank to use Active Mitigation or cooldowns when these packs of adds are the most dangerous - when both

Mythic Difficulty
On Mythic difficulty, the

buff grants Skorpyron 20% increased damage per stack. Similarly, the

buff grants 15% increased damage per stack.
Mythic Skorpyron has a

, and his chitin will frequently shift colors as the fight progresses.
Skorpyron will cycle through Crystalline, Volatile, and Acidic exoskeletons in that order
The cycle seems to be time-based:
Crystalline exoskeleton will last from 0:00 to 0:30, 2:00-3:00, and 4:30-5:30
Volatile exoskeleton will last from 0:30-1:30, 3:00-4:00, and 5:30-6:30
Acidic exoskeleton will last from 1:30-2:00, 4:00-4:30, and 6:30-7:00 if the fight goes that long
The

Finally, the

will persist in its location for 15 seconds after the tank breaks free of it.
If the tank enters the 10-yard radius around the

The tank should attempt to avoid this by dancing between a few safe locations each time

E.g. mark three spots in front of the boss, in a triangle formation, more than 10 yards apart
The tank will begin in one corner of the triangle, then after the third

cast of a set, will move to another corner to break the

On heroic i don't think the Volatile Scorpid explode when they die. Never saw that and never saw that on any stream/guide. So you can tank the add like in normal mode.

Was able to solo Skorpyron on 10H as a Ret Pally, 305 ilvl. Takes a long time, and make sure to utilize your

I managed to solo him (on normal, for the bloodgazer hatchling quest) with an ilvl 283 survival hunter. Kept as much aggro focused on my direhorn pet as I could and whittled him down, getting out of the way of the focused blasts and ducking behind shards as much as possible for the shockwaves. I pretty much ignored the adds and counted on cleave damage to take care of them.

If you’re a hunter like me, do not tame the boss! I thought I might be able to avoid the fight but I ended getting stuck in the room, he never respawned and the smaller scorpid’s don’t stop respawning no matter how many you kill.
