Tier5 gloves and legs drop in the Serpentshrine Cavern.
Lady Vashj, the last boss, drops the second quest item needed to be attuned to Mount Hyjal: Vashj's Vial Remnant. The quest can be found here:
This instance should be done (as a guild) after Magtheridon's Lair, which is after Gruul's Lair, which is after Karazhan. It is not the "true" order of things, but as tiers go up it should be.
To "open" the cascade which blocks the entrance, you NEED to be in a raid group. Sounds evident, but I miss the time when you could port in MC or BWL, having just a Raid ID.
It's a pain especially on PvP servers... know what I mean ?
SSC Pre-Hydross Trash
Base explanation of some used abilities:
Spore Shot - fired by the screamers at any random target, debuffs the target causing poisnon dmg over time.
Acid Geyser - Used by the Bog Lords, the bog lord will target a random member of the raid and fire a frontal cone attack, similar to teh use of cone of cold only with a much large range. This attack is easily dealt with by having teh person that is being targeted run away from the raid, or over to the tank, anything so that he so not pointing the Bog Lord at the raid.
Serpent Shrine Parasite - the little mana worm look alikes spawn from Bog Lords randomly through the battle, they run around and poison people and those people get sad faces! The parasites have a patheticly small amount of hp and can be killed by a sinle arcane explosion or thunderclap.
Spore Quake - Used by the Bog Lords, ground shake causing massive AOE poison dmg. Range on aoe is not short, not far, estimate 10-15yards.
Rampant Infection - Used by the Bog Lords, randomly targets any random member of the raid. This infects and debufs the target, then will continue to jump from one player to another that is within a certain range. Avoid by keeping the ranged portion of the raid 5-8 yards from every other person.
Bog Lords, upon death spawn either a gas of poison in the area around him, dotting anyone in it for faily high damage. Mushroom Spore, Regenerates hp/mp over time near the mushrooms, only in effect when the blue gas is coming out of the mushrooms.

SSC no longer has an attunement requirement, as of today.
(same with The Eye)
I just took a 25-man PUG there, its not a smart idea...
We did down all trash to hydross, but he beat us, the only thing good that came was a Nether Vortex.
Can anyone please list the bosses in Kill order?
There is no real kill order, apart from having to kill Lady Vashj last, you can mix it up a bit.
er... so you can just get 25 ppl together and walk in? or am i missing something...?
i was reading my old post. naah there is no real kill order as varathos wrote. go kill lurker if you are new to SSC . easiest boss. after that you may want to try lethoras the blind Leotheras the Blind. if you got enough tank with resistance try hydross or whatever you like.
Hardest fight in SSC: The Elevator.Definitely.
What level u need to be in fishing to aggro him?
Here's some info about ssc, and boss details if you need to study for your raid.
After 3.0.2 this raid is a joke really... We did a PuG on this and had a paladin tank all trashes and then just let Boomkins and Warlocks AoE them down. We did all bosses around 3minutes but Lady Vashj took long and we wiped only once..
Blizzard really nerfed this alot!
Still no one posting minimum character stats for 25man raids. Shocking.
I was wondering, if your top ten on the DPS scale in a group that downs Magtheridon with extreme easy, would this be pug-able now?
Mage - 960 ish BSD with elixers/oil, enchanted, and gemed. hit capped, and all that.
So... maybe I'm weird, but I've been wondering about something...
I wonder about the elevator at the beginning of the instance. When it arrives at the top, does it arrive at the top for every other copy of this instance for other playerd? Is every instance's elevator syncronized to arrive at the top at the same time, or are they all randomly moving? If they are randomly moving, what "starts" the elevators movement? Would it "start" the moment a player steps into SSC, or what?
This has been bugging my puny little mind for a while, and we probably wont ever know, but I want to know what others think.

im trying to get inside SSC and im in a raid group but it still wont let me. that waterfall just wont budge. anyone know what im doing wrong?
If there is no longer a requirement to be attuned why is it that i cannot enter this raid instance?
Does this place realy have to be so hard to get in to?
The pre-requisite to have completed the quest chains from Skar'this must have been removed, because I tried to talk to him on both of my geared toons, and he gave no quest. However, I was able to get into Serpentshrine cavern with no key, just joined a raid group, and walked right in. That'll save some time!
What bosses must be killed in order to get to Lady Vashj?
Are any of them optional?
Anyone tried soloing in here yet? As expansions come out old content becomes incredibly trivial. Wondering if any fellow soloers out there have given this a try?
I solo'd 3/6 SSC and 3/4 TK as a prot paladin in full 346+ DPS gear with pretty much no issue. Used the 1h Axe from H-Deadmines and the JP shield. I skipped as much trash as I could, but for Leo and Tidewalker I killed just about everything in my way from Lurker's bridge switch onward. Regarding the healers, usually you just have to interrupt them once to give yourself enough time to finish them off.
For Hydross, I let it stack up to 100% before switching his form and then just stayed on him and wore down the 4 adds with HotR. Used Seal of Insight. Fairly easy, though I'm not running any boss mods so I have no idea how close I would've been to the enrage. You could probably get away with switching between Truth and Insight throughout the course of the fight to be honest, the damage isn't that bad.
I skipped Lurker, figured the fight would take AGES and the extra money probably wasn't worth my time. I may try it at some point, it's probably doable as he has no hard enrage though.
Tidewalker was fairly easy. Just tank him up near the door to the hallway that leads to Fathom-Lord, aoe the murlocs down then they come, kite him around a little bit when he starts summoning globules.
Fathom-Lord is unsoloable by melee, at least from my perspective. The cyclone never leaves you alone and is constantly tossing you into the air, by the time you land back on the ground you get 2 steps and it throws you back up. Gave it 2 tries and quit.
Leo was pretty easy. Running resistance aura + BoK, my fire resist was pretty high. I used Seal of Insight when he was in his Blood Elf form, and Seal of Truth in Demon form. Popped Divine Protection at around 15-16 stacks of the debuff. When he split into both forms at 15%, I waited till the stack reached about 20 before I bubbled to drop it, and then just did my usual Divine Protection at 15-16 stacks. He died during the Divine Protection.
Vashj is obviously unsoloable, I didn't even bother with her.
As for TK, all 3 bosses are relatively simple to solo. I won't go into them here as this isn't the TK page, however.

Hydross the Unstable & The Lurker Below
Leotheras the Blind:
There is one more boss that can be done but not by me. He is called:
Lady Vashj is impossible even at 85.
Nobbel 85 Paladin
ed: as of patch 5.04, old raid zones now only provide you with gold amounts based on the number of people in the instance, so boss and trash drops are now 1/25 what they used to be for this raid, making it useless to farm gold.
It should be noted that as of this patch, with Magtheridon and Gruul's Lair both having had their gold drop amounts nerfed by 90%, this raid is the next easiest for soloers or duo-ers looking for relatively quick gold from old content.
Each boss in this instance still drops 250g. All trash mobs drop about 1-1.5g. Coilfang armaments drop and sell for varying amounts on the AH depending on your realm, I was fetching 10g each and would get about 20 out of a full solo clear (minus Vashj). Green items, netherweave cloth, trash items and potions for vendor also drop quite a lot. There are also several epic BOE/BOP patterns which can drop from bosses and trash, several of which are actually decent moneymakers either from crafting them (Red Belt of Battle) or selling the patterns themselves.
A solo clear of this instance as a DK was netting me at a minimum:
1250 for 5 bosses
200 for boss epic drops vendored
200 for trash
200 for trash greens/junk vendored
200 for AHing armaments, possibly more if they sell well on your realm
50-500 for boe patterns / random boe world blues/epics
for about 90 minutes effort. This is quite a decent haul for a bored 85 DK looking to make gold from something other than dailies. An 85 blood DK in decent gear (ZG / 359 stuff) can trivially pull 2-3 trash packs at a time and AOE them down. All in all a good moneymaker, you should definitely start doing the instance for gold now before the gold drop eventually gets nerfed in a later content patch.
Or you know. YOU WERE LEVEL 80?
The new maps added in Cataclysm made SSC appealing.
For those trying to figure out how to enter this damn instance, you need to be in a raid far away from the door BEFORE being near it. As you run towards it(While already in a raid), it will then clear. I was standing near the door wondering how to get the fuk in when they said it no longer needed a key. I had to come research to find out this little gimmick. So in other words, run away from the door, make the raid(Or reform it), then run to the door. This should fix the problem.
I'm not sure when they changed this or why...but this raid can be soloed now, INCLUDING Lady Vash'j. The Tainted Cores no longer immobilize you when you pick them up, thereby eliminating the need for other people. I was stunned/shocked when a small group went in there the other week. I had explained what needed to be done with the cores, when, lo and behold, i managed to loot one and could still run up to the generators and destroy them without having to pass the core. Good times!
Soloable by a decently geared blood dk..however...we are blood DKs we can solo anything:) quite some troubles on the first groups coz they´r HELLA long and it took me like 10 mins until i cleared all of them
EDIT:Make sure you get fishing 1 and fishing pole so u can fish up Lurker Below
sp solo 4\6
Me and a friend cleared this yesterday and it was quite fun i have to say.
Here is the armory if u want to check gear or w/e
The run started out with food buff and poping flask ;P
And then it went realy quick just pull pull pull and aoe like mad. The trash dont have much for fancy abilitys like the Slayers in sunwell.
Hydross: Kill it
Lurker: Kill it
Leotheras: Just burst it
Fathom-lord: Here we wiped once because the paladin is a mana user and we started killing his adds first.
(the imba spell that pawns mana users here
Second time i had focus target on the naga add that heals for interrupt and we basicly just bursted the boss down and cleared the adds after.
Morogrim: Kill it
Vashj: Paladin went Prot (because we did not know how much elemental adds would reach her) its a realy easy fight now that u can run around with the tainted core. and as warrior just
and burst down the big squids that aoe fear spam.
and it was a good thing the paladin went prot since Vashj was freaking huge once we reached P3 (kill phase) Tho i am not 100% sure about how much extra damage she had but it was quite alot
overall easy instance and very nice gold for the small effort needed
Strategy for one/two players from the
Solo/Duo Old Raid Compendium
, done at level 85 at patch 4.3 with ilvl 385-395 gear:
is fully duoable and partially soloable.
If you are having trouble entering the instance, be sure you are in a raid group before you get close to the door and the waterfall will disappear as you approach it.
You can skip ahead to the final boss without fighting any of the other ones beforehand.
Some bosses in the instance can be soloed by some classes with varying degrees of difficulty, but for less intense folks they will be challenging.
Hydross the Unstable
Has two forms: a water form and a poison form. Pulling him away from his original location changes him into his poison form, while returning him to his original location triggers his water form. When in water form, he will cast
Mark of Hydross
, an ever-increasing debuff that will quickly max out at 500% increased frost damage taken. Similarly, in poison form, he casts the equivalent
Mark of Corruption
. Switch him to the opposite form when one of these debuffs becomes too dangerous, and let the debuff wear off before switching him back.
If soloing this,
Drums of the Forgotten Kings
are pretty much essential as they mitigate a large amount of his damage.
The Lurker Below
Must be fished up, and it can take a little while to successfully fish him. Make sure you aren't standing in front of him when he casts
or you will have a lot of swimming to do, unless you are fighting him with your back to the rim of the pool.
Leotheras the Blind
If your DPS is solid enough, you should just be able to burn him down solo.
Might eventually spawn Inner Demons for every player in the group with his
. Make sure you kill your own inner demon (and make sure you, not your pet, lands the killing blow) or you will be mind controlled.
Burn him down, ignore his adds. Some with enough burst DPS and damage mitigation, can solo him.
In phase 1, just burn her down.
In phase 2, she will become invincible.
constantly and walk towards Vashj - you must kill these or they give Vashj a permanent size and damage increase, which stacks to problematic levels even at level 85. You will not be able to kill them all unless you have superior AoE abilities, so just focus on getting as many down as possible so she does not have an unmanageable amount of stacks. We usually end up with about 50 or so (99 is the max).
Vashj is invincible in this phase until you disable her shield generators using four
. These elementals spawn at the edge of the arena and do not climb the stairs, so they are difficult to see. Scan the horizon for the toxic projectiles they lob onto the main stage. They despawn quickly, so you must be fast, and be sure to have loot on free for all.
Two adds will occasionally spawn throughout this phase. The problematic ones,
constantly cast a very disrupting Point Blank AoE Fear (like a priest's psychic scream except faster than usual) and must be rooted, kited, or killed (preferably at range). It will help to have ranged dps for both the Enchanted Elementals and the Striders. It is absolutely crucial that you progress to phase 3 (by using the 4th core) when no adds are up or about to spawn, as the AoE fear will easily wipe you against an overpowered Vashj in phase 3.
In phase 3, damage mitigation as a tank or healing is absolutely crucial, as unless you have managed to keep her from getting stacks, she will attack very quickly and hit very hard.
Soloable as lvl 90 Monk Brewmaster.
All bosses are easy except for Vashj who is quite difficult.
The main problem is the Tainted elementals, getting to these before they despawn and getting the cores takes a lot of time. Keep an eye out for poison bolts, if you see one follow it back to the elemental. The striders are also problematic for melee classes as you end up feared a lot which wastes time.
I ended up with 99 buff stacks on Vashj and just had to live with that and nuke her down using cooldowns and self heals to stay alive.
It should be noted that casters will find Fathom Lord difficult also as there is a spell reflect mechanic and constant bouncy in the air which will make casting most difficult.
ENTRANCE: Coordinates are 50.5 : 41.0 in the centre of Serpent Lake (Coilfang Reservoir). Swim down through the pipe with the bubbling water, follow it down until you come back out in an underwater lake. Here you will find the meeting stone and entrances to the raid.
If you happen to be an engineer trying to solo this, you can use your cloak glider halfway down the first elevator to soar out the window. You have enough height that you can land yourself just about anywhere in the first half of the zone. It's nice for saving yourself time going down the first and up the second elevator, skipping the early trash, and just having fun :)
Just soloed all bosses with a 90 protection warrior, 471 gear score, last fight time consuming, but easily done.
Was able to solo 5 of 6 bosses as 527 ilvl Destro Lock w/ Voidlord minion. Fathom-Lord was challenging, but manageable.
As for Lady Vashj, wiped twice and decided to come back another day, maybe with help.
Lessons learned on Lady Vashj: It took awhile to find and loot Tainted Ele's because my Pet/Minion would find and melee them before I could get there, making them unlootable :(( If soloing this boss, during phase 2, I would advise pet/minion should be on passive unless you get in real trouble, such as spam feared without end (as happened when I was at a shield and turned around to face a strider - the fear just kept shoving me flat against the shield post).
I was able to reach Phase 3 the on 2nd attempt, using gateways to help move around after the Tainted Elementals. Unfortunately, since I basically ignored the Enchanted Elementals, saving quick spells for striders, and naga as I raced around to get the Tainted before they despawned, the boss was at max stack and I didnt get her down.
Managed to solo Lady Vashj at L90 Arms Warrior, gear ilvl 530.
When she gets buffed up and gets too large, I found it harder to click the orbs, so watch out for that; it can get quite frustrating.
Soloed as a feral druid, 504 ilvl. It was tricky at the last boss. Had to pop bear form on third phase because she was 79 stacks. Just keep frenzied regeneration up and you should be able to solo it.
I The Serpentshire elevator is one of the most F* place to get DC
Just downed her as Shadow Priest with pvp gear 523ilvl (missing 7% hit for bosses).
I killed her in TBC so I was kinda familiar with the fight.
Just watched a youtube video to refresh the memory tho.
I didn't kill all adds because i was getting low on mana.
Just searched for the green spills to detect where the taunted elementals were and killed them with shadow word: pain(instant kill).
2 dots on the strider and it went down fast.
She had about 80 stacks, thats +800% dmg or so but it wasn't a problem tbh in last phase. Renew and devouring plague was enough to keep me up.
The main issue on this fight was my mana tbh.
Luckily the t5 head token dropped :)
Fathom-lord was more challenging that Vashj tbh. I was expecting to wipe on her...
Serpentshrine Cavern Entrance:
Tip for traversing the water sections,
is useable in here.
Serpentshrine Cavern Entrance
"Fetch" pet ability is a great help. :) As well as enabling /target - helped locating those Tainted Elementals.
With the recent buff to old expansion bosses, you might get stuck in Phase 2 of the Lady Vashj fight, and it's a HUGE pain in the ass. She gets a "Magic Barrier" that you have to break.
Lady Vashj Magic Barrier in Phase 2
Look for "Tainted Elementals" to spawn, which are uncommon. Kill them quickly before they time out and vanish.
Loot their "Tainted Core".
You may now deactivate one of the four "Shield Generators".
Repeat for each Shield Generator.
Just after Pre-BFA patch ran this raid solo with my 101 (eye-oh-eye) Arcane Mage. The hot water will kill you quickly (over 700 dmg per 3 sec). Kill Lady Vashj (if she gets to 99 buffs will kill you eventually if you don't take down the tainted pillars) and the waters cool off (and the fish re-spawn) so you can deal with the Lurker and catch another round of loot from the mobs on the platforms (they also re-spawn after killing Lady Vashj). Everything else seems the same with regards to soloing this raid.
Oddly, I had to reset instances, even though I never ran this before.
