When it comes to your reward choices there are a couple of things to consider.

In my opinion, the Hunting Spear is probably the least useful of the three items. Weapons themselves will eventually become outdated, to begin with, as people level up, especially with the upcoming expansion. Also, if one truly wants a decent spear, many hunters go and get the Ice Barbed Spear (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=19106) which is a reward if you win ONE battle in Alterac Valley. This spear has better overall stats, in my opinion, than the Hunting Spear, as it has an abundance of agility as well as stamina.

This brings it down to the last two items. Now if you are a Marks or Surv hunter, the Devilsaur Eye is clearly the best choice for you. However, I'm not certain if there are other trinkets more useful than this for Marks/Surv hunters, so please make a comment if you believe there is.

Being a BM hunter, I instinctively went for the Devilsaur Tooth. I have no doubt in my mind that this trinket is one of the best for hunters with this spec. It's highly useful for opening attacks, especially if one has a cat. A cat put into Prowl, with the Devilsaur Tooth buff, as well as triggering Bestial Wrath the moment before it reaches the intended target means a strong critical opening attack that will proc Frenzy instantly.

This will become especially useful when the expansion pack is released. One of the new BM abilities is Ferocious Inspiration. It means that when your pet scores a critical hit, all party members have their damage output increased by 1-3% for 10 seconds.

When this quest was first available, all the way to the release of AQ40, there were no replacements for the Devilsaur Eye, and any hunter who took the spear found it quickly replaced, and any hunter who took the Devilsaur Tooth quickly found that it was useless in raids, and nominal in PvP. However, with the release of AQ40, Naxx, and the expansion, there are several replacements for the Devilsaur Eye. Examples being: Badge of the Swarmguard, Drake Fang Talisman, Jom Gabber, Kiss of the Spider and Slayer's Crest. Even outside of raids, the Earthstrike trinket from the Cenarian Circle replaces the Devilsaur Eye.

However, nothing in the game replaces the Devilsaur Tooth. So, if you are a hunter that has not yet chosen your reward, it is probably in your best interest to get the Devilsaur Tooth. Even in the expansion, there is not a replacement for this item.

I agree with the top posters. I for one went for the hunting spear and now hit my head against a wall for doing so. Go for one of the trinkets, whichever you find most suitable for you...

The Devilsaur Eye is probably the best reward out of them all. Trinkets arent easy to come by for hunters.

There are no "good" epic trinkets before getting to AQ40 so the Devilsaur eye is probably your best bet here.

The best of the set is the eye, no question in my opinion, however, what's this about no good trinkets for hunters? Before you start raiding, you should have your DM trinket (book isn't that expensive) and Blackhand's Breadth from the quest chain in UBRS. The eye is great for fights when you need serious burst DPS (I use it twice in the Rag fight personally) but your other standard trinkets should be DM and BB

Is this still the truth with BC out now? I know there are two seperate better trinkets than the eye you can get in Outland. Bladefist's Breath and Mark of Conquest. Both easy to obtain. I realise that they are 8 and 10 levels higher than the eye you obtain here. But does this effect the need for the eye over the tooth? There still is no trinket I know of that enhances Pet crit rate in BC.

Try and find party members familiar with how to get to the instance

After you enter the instance in the temple, take the left hand steps up to the top. You are then faced with a group of dragons. Handle them and keep going straight until you reach the large room full of dragons.

Make your way left, (your group killing mobs as required) and find the room with the two dragons flying around the room.
Kill and loot.

Well! If the hunter got brain, you take the Xbow from AV, NOT the spear.. then you take the spear:) and you keep it untill you get better, probally not before outlands.... the trinkets it's crap anyways... if you are a BM hunter.. the pet can strike hard, but it will critt without the trinket too, and often.. my pet critt all the time, not rare at all!... You get a better trinket than Devilsaur Eye in Honor hold at lvl 58 or 60..can't rember.. so, all hunters who know how to play, take the spear!!! :D

I think there's too many arguments that exist on the premise of an item being "irreplaceable". It's said also for the warlock quest, with one trinket being pretty much unique and the other two items being eventually replaceable. But that trinket is a 30 minute cooldown free void walker. My problem with taking the "irreplaceable" trinket is that odds are you're not going to wear the thing at higher levels even if you can't replace it. What it does simply isn't special enough to matter.

In this case we have the Eye versus the Tooth. The polearm is pretty bad, nice crit, but while leveling your crit isn't terribly high to begin with. Greens at least increase your AP while they're at it. The Tooth gives a free crit on your pet's next attack. Now, if you're MM, or Survival, this doesn't really matter, your pet isn't a huge amount of your DPS and a crit other then the minor extra damage (especially if it's a claw or bite rather then a melee swing) is tiny. But if you're BM, you're looking at Ferocious Inspiration and Frenzy both procing every crit.

The problem exists that your pet simply can maintain both up a ridiculously large amount of the time without the trinket. Particularly after the first crit, frenzy helps increase the odds he'll proc before the effect is over and refresh the duration. With cobra reflexes, serpent's swiftness, and frenzy, your pet attacks slightly more then once a second (.99 per second). Combined with a focus dump like Claw, and he doesn't need the crit from the Tooth.

I think the Eye is more beneficial while leveling. And odds are if you're looking this up you are doing that. The eye gives a solid benefit and while it's not unique, the fact of the matter is you probably won't be using the Tooth in Outland anyway. You'll end up replacing either trinket but the Eye is a better damage increaser then offering a free crit to a pet that crits all the time anyway.

I just wanted to say that I completely agree with zhek's opinion on this. I have levelled a lock to 70 and took the voidwalker trinket on the reasoning that it was irreplaceable. Guess what? I never used it, because it sucks. The devilsaur tooth sucks even more. You will never equip it at level 70, and either of the other quest rewards are superior for levelling. It's much better to have an item that will help you for 8-10 levels than one which will never help you, ever. I am currently levelling a hunter and I plan on taking the trinket. As a BM-spec hunter, it will stack nicely with BW, TBW, Rapid Fire, and Blood Fury for some insane burst damage! The spear is a good choice as well if you aren't taking the IBS from the AV quest.

the devilsaur tooth is best choice, even if your not BM, because no matter what level you are, 1 or 500 this trinket will always help you.
but the spear and the eye in some level are easly replaceable.

zhek and glass' opinions are both very valid. I will offer up mine as well.

Simply put, the Hunter's Spear is easily replaceable and by the time you finish this quest you ahve gotten something better anyhow.

The Eye becomes weaker as you level and offers nothing really good at all IMO.

The tooth can be used with any and all pets and can easily last you upto and past 70. yes there are better TBC trinket's, i know, but the fact that it can used with any pet at any level and still hasthe same benefits makes it invaluable. Especially if you are a BM spec as the above poster's previously stated.

Now there's no need to even wait until Outlands to get a better trinket. If you complete the quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5128 in Winterspring, you will get a passive +50 attack power trinket.

To those mulling over which to get, just get whatever item is the best upgrade for you with your current gear. If you find the spear gives you the best upgrade, so be it.

Finished the quest this afternoon at 54.

Actually had a two high levels and a 49 pally helping, so easier.

Morphaz does not pull anything else.

You do have to fight your way around to his hallway though.

Enter the instance and go left up stairs.

Fight the Whelps and Dragonkin at top of stairs. Directly opposite where you came up stairs is the hallway to him...Fight your way back to him and out.

Took Devilsaur tooth based on suggestions here.

The pet trinket could be good if your pet doesn't crit alot but if your BM you should notice it critting alot... also your pet benefits from the AP buff.

Your nuts i use my void trinket every 30 min when i need to just equip wait 30 sec and use i agree the hunter one is stupid but the warlock one is a life saver when your out of shards and are in a area where you cant get a new one plus it works with Fel domination

This Q has been the elephant in the room in my Q Log staring reproachfully thru my 50’s. Finally done solo at 60 BM. I had got 3 M73 Frag Grenades Q reward from Jim’Jael Indeed! (Azshara 53,21) and found a good use for them.
My approach: Into Instance, staight ahead then right fork 2 mobs: Pull and trap fighter while dealing with caster. Up two flights of stairs but watch out for wandering 4 mobs that patrol from from top down to basement. You can prepare and take them down but don’t blunder into them on stairs and get hexed like I did first. Else wait till there’re down to basement and avoid.
At top there are groups of 6-8 mobs and I found these too tough in one go as I was trying to work my way around to be over the S chamber as rec in prev posts.
Instead I went straight down stairs to mini-boss troll Zolo in Pit of Sacrifice(?). He is tough as his totems produce skeletons and that was death No.2 for me after killing him.
On return from graveyard, back there to loot him and consider options. Looking over into the central room, the S chamber is straight ahead just to the right and the Dragonkin there not visible yet. I dismissed Pet, ran and leapt off balcony, landing nearer the central pit. Went left around it and pulled up short of the Scaleblanes(?) in front of the S chamber entry. You should (at 60) be able to do this with out aggroing anything (~900 health hit on fall).
I then used the grenade on the dragonkin in front of me. There are Engineer alternatives Iron, Frost,Thorium grenades but M73’s seem to have wider AOE.
Then ran past them whiled stunned and staight thur the dragon whelps behind them and you can then FD. IMPORTANT You must run past whelps patrol area almost up to Hazza and Morpheus else your FD is wasted. Now, with no grenades etc you may be able to run past both sets of mobs and still FD sucessfully but I didn’t try it.
M and H fly an anticlockwise path around their chamber so run past them to the left into Eranikus’ chamber. He won’t stir and you have time to compose yourself. Summon pet, lay freezing trap and take them on . Nearly mucked up on that but final sucess!
Now reward. Tooth or Eye. I’m going for Eye because although Tooth may be unique if you have Bestial Wrath and Serpent Swiftness you are going to proc several crits in a fight any way. Better to have the attack bonus.

hunters use melee weps for stats. Just like warriors use ranged weps for stats.

A surv hunter does decent (not bad, but not good either) melee dps.

It is a quest so any hunter can choose what they want.

And lastly, 2h weps are only pvp toys for all classes except hunters who can generally gain larger stat bonus from 2hers.

Yes there are some 2h weps that do not have major hunter stats. These are clearly non hunter weps.

Besides, pvp 2hers are superior in every way for 2h damage in pvp.

Just a comment on what you two have said: The Ice Barbed Spear is indeed better than the Hunting Spear, however, I believe you'll find that the crossbow is a much better option, as Grimlok's Charge has more AP than the Ice-Barbed Spear, only a little less agi/stam, and is available a lot earlier.

I have to agree with those annoyed it wasn't a bow or gun for the reward. Hunters use melee weapons... we all know this already; and yes, for the extra stats, it's nice. But we all know, as well, that we use ranged weapons 95% of the time when in instances and PvP! So why not give Hunters a nice ranged weapon with stats on as the quest reward. There are PLENTY of two-handed weapons with stats on them that drop in instances; there are not many good ranged bows and guns with great stats on them, at this level. Though I did get a nice crossbow for my rogue (just for stats) from the AV reward. Name is Bloodseeker, and has 8 agi, 7 str, and pretty nice damage.

The other rewards didn't help my Rogue out much compared. But kind of weird how a BG reward gives a nice ranged weapon, yet a HUNTER reward gives no ranged weapon, but a melee weapon.

Anyway, I will be picking the 150 attack power trinket. This will be nice for burst damage on bosses in instances, and PvP, especially when used with Rapid Fire ability.

It's not easy to make choice between Tooth and Eye.
I'm Hunter with mainly BM points.

Eye gives 150 attackpower. Lucky your pet makes more dmg with Eye a bit. It raises attack power and spell damage. With your gun, you makes generally more dmg. Overall more dps in fact.

Tooth is pet only extra crit. But it's a never replaceable trinket in whole WoW world. Your AtP is same, but your pet got 200 AtP. Use it if you got BM with Bestial Wrath.

If you level further, there are replacement trinkets for Eye. If you like to collect unique stuff, then you should take Tooth. At level 70, you can have Tooth to buff it first, then change to another high-AtP trinket and fight. You must wait before you reach l70, to get better trinkets. If you choose Tooth, no worries, you have still chance to get another high-AtP trinket.

Do you like to run raids? Get Eye, because Tooth is not useful in raids.
Will you level fast? Then you can go for Eye.

I choose for Tooth because it's rare item. AtP bonus can be fixed at higher levels.
And i'm not raid player yet.

The most early replacement trinket for Eye is http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28041 :) For around level 62. Hah!

Per latest patch:

Devilsaur Eye now increases your pet’s attack power for a short duration instead of increasing its critical strike chance. It also provides a small amount of passive Agility.

Soloed as 53lvl BM Hunter. Used Lesser Invisibility Potion and Feign Death to get to Morphaz. However I had to fight both drakes at once. Just focused dps on Morphaz and used Feign Death to drop aggro from the Hazzas. Also used one Major Healing Potion. Killed drake, looted tooth and died under attacks of Hazzas. I am satisfied with the result ;)

Solo'ed this as a level 55 hunter with 46/46 in beast mastery.

How to get there:
Get to Morphaz by running throug the packs one at a time and use feign death when you are at a save spot. When u get to the room with Hazzas and Morphaz, run in a counter-clockwise cirkle (the same way the drakes patrol) with Aspect of the Cheetah all the way to Shade of Eranikus. Stay there and make sure that you, and your pet, is on full health/mana and Bestial Wrath and Rapid fire is ready.
You want to use Aspect of the Wild for nature resistance.

The fight:
Start by making your pet attack Hassaz to get aggro, then pop Bestial Wrath and Rapid Fire to burn Morphaz down quickly. When Morphaz was dead my pet was on about 60% health and the rest of the fight was piece of cake.

Ofc remember to have Mend Pet up all the time :P

this thread is suppossed to be about getting "the green drake" quest finished, not all this bullcrap about burning crusade, rewards blah blah blah...there is no info on this quest or in these threads that helped me in any way, to say how you find what you need to find in order to get this quest finished...this page for the green drake quest is worthless, and you people need to stick with the thread topic and not go rantin an ravin about rewards...tell us where the hell to go inside the temple to finish the quest ...pathetic info here.

For me, I went to Swamp of Sorrows and started looking for any kind of temple structure. Finally found it, found the instance portal... and died pretty quickly. :)

I forgot about this quest for a long time, since I could never get a group together at the right level. I'll go back and solo this one when I get some free time.

The Devilsaur Tooth has been changed to give +5 Agility and an On Use of: Increases your pet's attack power by 200 for 20 sec. I now view it as superior to the Eye, because the static +5 agility will get more use, and most players don't necessarily use their trinkets every CD. Of course this become moot when you get one of the many OL trinkets, or Northrend if you are adamant enough to keep this trinket that long.
