Your trainee should automatically appear as you fly into Bastion and then follow you as you do world quests. I did not have to do anything to get a trainee.

Where do you pick this up in the Night Fae Covenant? The map marker is outside the Heart of the Forest, and I can't see anything above or below ...

When you're Venthyr, you get a companion named 阿滴, who will sometimes dig up interesting items after combat.
He also sometimes grants you a special ability button that summons a giant by your side to help you in combat.

When he dug up something, he says: "Dredged up somethin' interesting over here, boss." so look for this text to appear.
Then you can click the sparkly little mud mount for some loot.

I am not sure if he's the only companion who does this, since this is my first playthrough, but thought I'd share. Free stuff!
He dug up all of this for me in one Bastion session:
- 幽魂敏捷药水
- 心华之速药水
- 灵魂法力药水
- 水栖战斗训练石 x5 or x6 (family type varies)
- 无瑕龙类战斗石 (family type varies)
- 苷铜万能钥匙
- Some food items
- And a bunch of grey items.

The companion stays with you for as long as you stay in the 'training grounds' (the whole of Bastion).
So you can run around and collect free stuff for as long as you like, it seems :)

I right clicked his buff to get rid of him so I could tame a hunter pet. He came back a few minutes later. No need to worry about losing your buff.

If you're on the campaign questline Night Warrior's Curse, Lord Herne may be at 51,79 and won't give the quest. Progress in the campaign quest and he should move back to 42,74 and offer it as normal.

The quest March of the Eternal Protector! does not count as credit towards training in Bastion. Sumthin' bugged...

"Flight School" quests do not seem to count towards this. I guess you actually have to be with your trainee during the entire duration of the quest.

EDIT: Or maybe they do. The next world quest I completed gave me credit for two.

I had been on Kivarr's Den and wasn't able to find Lord Herne when I checked for this Bastion Calling today. I figured that was the issue and, as it turns out, this guy gives both Kivarr's Den and this Calling quest. I completed more quests in the Campaign Chapter (Drust to Drust), which did help him show back up. I'm not sure which specific quest brought him back to the proper phase but he was there waiting when I returned to Heart of the Forest to turn in Nox Root.
