Is this quest mandatory? My mage has been fire since I rolled her in classic, I've never had an off spec, nor even purchased the second spec from the trainer (back when you could for the achiev). For me, pure dps classes are their spec: when I wanted to play arcane, I rolled another toon.

So, if I don't do this quest will it hamper my toon/hall progression?

Please note that if you switch specs, your current artifact is disabled and you, (like I did) might realize 3/4s of the way through a 'holy hell this is hard' questline that you have no weapon.

Not always so obvious if you are caster and an idiot like me.

There dosen't seem to be much information around on this quest and I left it until I had maximum artifact power on my first weapon.

things in a nutshell:

I was able to do the scenario as fire with my original weapon and gain the second weapon at the end, so none of this omg i dont have a weapon problem that eveyone seems to mention!

when you activate the new spec your new weapon obviously starts at zero but any artifact power you acquire still gains the larger amount that you gain through artifact research, so i was able to aquire 17 levels on my first artifact stone which was around 35k

So Idecided to delete my arcane artifact quest. And I cant pick up any quest... I wanted a Frost one... Guess I have to wait? or is it Bugged out...

I love the text on this quest. All the other "go fetch another artifact" quests just give reasons like "This weapon is good but these other weapons could be even more powerful, you should get them too!" while here Meryl is just like "I suppose you could go get those other artifacts if you want. I mean, you already have ONE artifact that's extremely powerful, but I suppose if you really wanted to be selfish...".

After getting killed on this quest. despite having the arcane energy crackling around me and standing in the middle of the void energy.. nothing happened. Quest failed. Can not seem to pick it back up despite talking to npc.

I can't seem to get this quest at level 50, after I got the first one also at level 50. Sad, well I guess time to level another mage..
