Drop rates for these are ridiculously low at the start of 5.1, which they will hopefully fix.

Pristine golden crownfeathers are found at the Cradle of Chi-ji (where the August Celestials Red Crane dailies are: 31, 63).
Pristine jet crownfeathers can be found at the spires close to the Anglers dailies (64, 47 and 73, 44).

The 完整的金色冠羽s drop from 赤精的子嗣. The drop rate seems to be 5%, the respawn rate is not very good, so expect to spend a good 20 to 30 minutes finding these.

The 完整的墨黑冠羽 drops from 巨型仙鹤. Also, drops rate seems to be very low, there are far less of these mobs around and several people farming them right now.

No rep is given for this quest. You get to battle one of the three animals associated with the boxes and get a 30 minute buff where you have a 5% chance to summon a ghost verion of them in combat while in the Krasarang Wilds.

Fight them on the beach to avoid the students. There are several spawns and it's fairly quick. I had some trouble with some of them evading relatively quickly if I pulled them too far but managed to get 3-4 to AOE down a couple of times.

Unfortunately the drop rate sucks, as mentioned here. I ended up with 46 wildfowl breasts by the time I got the 5 quills. The whole thing took me about 45 minutes as a 482 prot paladin.

I'm not quite sure what the point is...buying these quest starters to do a daily that takes forever...and at the end I got a 30 minute buff that disappeared as soon as I left Krasarang.

Not only is drop rate low, but on Arthas at least 3 are evade bugged and cannot be dislodged or engaged in combat.

drop rates are removed on this quest! killed 20 birds at the isle where you do the august celestials daily's and have gotten 1 feather so far. Didnt have much of a problem with the students (specially since most seem to be evade bugged on my server) and half the birds i encountered are also evade bugged. The first feather which you only need 1 of was rather painless to get and only took me 3 kills. I really hope blizzard ups the drop rate on the rest of the items required for this quest.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

You know, its a funny fact:
Those incredibly low drop rates have been reported in the bug forums of the PTR nearly a month ago. There was neither a response from a developer nor did they acutally do anything about it.

This is my comment from the Sturdy Tiger Trap quest. I'm assuming that this issue affects all three of the purchasable dailies from Domination Point. If anyone doesn't have this problem with this quest, please reply.

"As of 11/28, when the dailies reset at 3AM PST, this quest is removed from your log and the drops will be removed from your bag. The Commissions you spent on the item are NOT refunded. I was in the middle of working on it when everything reset and I received a message that the quest had been removed from my log. You have been warned. :-\"

Can anyone tell me, why you would ever want to do this quest? The reward seems really useless when you consider the effort it takes to complete the quest. If only it actually gave some reputation, I could see why you would do it.

Hopefully this will be hotfixed and won't be necessary, but until then, I found that the birds didn't evade if I just stood on top of them instead of trying to pull them.

The droprate on these feathers are extremely low. It took me about ~100 crane kills to get all 5 of them, and on top of that, the cranes keep evading mid combat.

Luckily, you can only get the 200 extra rep from doing just one of the trap quests every day. That means you have the option to choose between Tiger, Crane and Crab. Thus you can choose either of the other traps, and still get your daily reputation without ever having to farm cranes.

I've done all 3 of them, and personally I prefer doing the Crab one. You kill monkeys that drop fish with a very high drop chance. Sure you need 30 of them, but it only takes 5 minutes compared to the 30 mins for the crane one.

Now the easiest way to get your rep, is to simply not farm anything. Instead you camp the cages and kill the bosses other people have farmed for. You still get quest credit for killing the boss, even if you didn't tag it.

Another solution is have a rotation with friends and guildies. One person farms 1 trap every day, sharing the kill, and you rotate on a schedule.

I picked up this quest with anticipation and excitement.
Couldn't get any feathers to drop. Checked out Wowhead, many similar reports.
On Wowhead and in guild, people said it had been hotfixed. Farmed 2 stacks of wildfowl breast, and only managed to find 2 of the 5 feathers required.
This isn't a daily. It's a weekly.
Quest abandoned.
It's not for me.

From the 86 kills it took me to get the 5 feathers i need i got:

78 Soft Down Feathers (90.7%)
43 Wildfowl Breast (50%)
5 Pristine Golden Crownfeather (5.81%!)
2 Ornamental Feather (2.33%)

So yes very small drop chance!

The object of this quest is to capture the Ancient Bloodcrown Crane, which is then caged. Once caged, it can be challenged until killed. When a group sucessfully kills the Ancient Bloodcrown Crane, it disappears until someone captures another one.

Each quest costs 30 Domination Point Commission or Lion's Landing Commission, which are easily farmed from Dominance and Reliquary NPC's (Alliance) or Shieldwall NPC's (Horde). The other two related quests are:

Beastmaster's Hunt: The Crab, started by Sturdy Tiger Trap.
Beastmaster's Hunt: The Tiger, started by Sturdy Crab Crate, to capture Colossal Viceclaw.

The Pristine Jet Crownfeather (1 needed) drops from Great Crane found on the islands next to Angler's Warf. The Pristine Golden Crownfeathers (5 needed) drop from Child of Chi-Ji (a crane), most easily farmed on Cradle of Chi-Ji island.

One of the better places to farm the cranes is on the shoreline. While there are still Student of Chi-Ji npc's to contend with, they are fewer and are not stealthed.

The map areas for finding the feathers appear accurate. Once you get the feathers, you turn them in at a dirt pile at about 89,62. A large crane then walks toward the dirt pile and is the npc for a daily quest Beastmaster's Quarry: The Crane. You turn this one it to Huntsman Blake (who has moved from Glineas to Pandaria) at 84,19, just north of Lion's Landing. Once the quest is completed, the crane appears in a cage and can be fought.

The rewards for completing both crane quests are a total of 10 valor, 4 lesser charm of good fortune and 22+ gold. There is no rep for either of these quests, it just makes the crane available to fight.

It appears this is a new incarnation of the Crucible of Carnage (and it's ilk) except that you don't need to be in a group to attack and get credit for the kill. At 12,647k HP, you'll want a group to take it on. Killing the beast gives you a quest to turn in to Huntsman Blake for another 5 valor, 2 lesser charms and 200 (standard) rep for Operation: Shieldwall.

So, before you start the quest, you might want to check to see if the beasts are in the cage, unless you're just farming valor tokens. Before you turn it in, it's a good idea to have a group ready to challenge it to get the rep.

As of 12/5/12 the drop rate doesn't seem as bad as the above posters have stated. I completed the quest in about 20 mins.

That said, I think I can find better ways to earn 4 lesser charms.

Dailies is right,taking all day to do them!,looks like this another daily that isn't worth the effort for the rewards...
I like a challenge and id rather it was challenging than easy BUT when it gets tedious it just aint fun!

And after getting 5 完整的金色冠羽 i was flying for the 完整的墨黑冠羽 i get "The quest Beastmaster's Hunt: has been removed from your quest log" daily quest reset ! AHHHHHHHHH FFS lol(##RESPBREAK##)524##DELIM##thaia##DELIM##

This quest starts from the item 坚固的捕鹤陷阱, purchable from
乔恩·星眼 or 奥格罗姆·黑牙. See note below.

For the first part of this quest, you are going to collect 5 完整的金色冠羽 and 1 完整的墨黑冠羽 from Krasarang Wilds.

The 完整的金色冠羽 are obtained from 赤精的子嗣 on the island Cradle of Chi-Ji. (31.31, 63.14 -- Southeast of Temple of the Red Crane). Because of the other level 90 agros in the area, for speed, it is best to stick to the beach in the north section of the island. The 赤精的子嗣 respawn at a quick enough rate that you should have little wait between fights.
My personal drop rate for these are around 1 in 10-12.

The 完整的墨黑冠羽 are obtained from 巨型仙鹤. (Spawns around 64.07, 48.30 -- The island due west of Anglers Wharf). These have always dropped within 4-6 kills for a few of us, so the rate seems good.

Once you have both items, you'll need to go to the trap location. (39.20 61.91 -- The beach south of Temple of the Red Crane). When you turn in the quest, wait. A moment later an Ancient Bloodcrown Crane will appear and promptly be snared. You can now grab the next daily. 兽王的猎物：仙鹤.

From here you simply fly back to 乔恩·星眼 (12.66, 62.73) at Domination Point. You will unlock the ability for all Horde members to fight 远古血冠鹤 for the remainder of the day or until it is killed.

NOTES:

The item for this quest can be picked up by TWO mobs. If you grab the trap from 乔恩·星眼 (12.66, 62.73 -- the pit, north of the tower) at Domination Point, you can not grab anymore traps off of him that day.
If you buy your traps from 奥格罗姆·黑牙 (10.77, 53.58 -- North Keep of Domination Point by the large fire), you can activate the quest, then buy another trap. This will allow you to do all three dailies

at the same time, but still only once per day each.

This quest will expire at 3:00 am realm time. All items, objectives, and quest log information will be stripped from your character at this time.
This quest is currently not connected to any faction for reputation. Upon defeating 远古血冠鹤 you will auto-accept 远古的败亡, which rewards you with 200 reputation with Dominance Offensive.

EDIT: As of 5.2 items appear to remain in inventory.

If you came here to figure out if you're doing something wrong, because the cranes were not dropping anything, you're not doing anything wrong.

Instead, this daily quest is stupid long and awards no rep of its own. I would suggest not wasting 30 Lion's Landing Commissions and just not get these Beastmaster's quests.

Forgive this Wowhead noob but... the quest text sez, "Along with the #snare# you get some advice..."

My question is, where is the snare? Shouldn't there be some sort of rope, trip-wire, SNARE, in my inventory? I'd assume (oops!) that I'd get a snare! Something to make capturing a simple matter.

Am I missing something? I see that the drop rate is pathetic, that seems to be a given.

Now, to move along ... where's the snare that comes along with the lame advice?

Something's missing... Something that *might* make fast work out of finishing this endless quest.

All info will be most appreciated.

I had 4/5 of my feathers. gathered within 15 minutes of starting the quest. and all of a sudden it says
"The quest Beastmaster's Hunt : The Crane has ben removed from your quest log" and im 100% sure that i did not remove it myself and i did not delete any of the quest items or the quest giving item.

Seriously though how can blizzard not be trolling us on purpose? HAL 9000 doesn't make the game. A person had to physically sit at a keyboard to code in the quest and press the '9' key for percentage drop chance and keep a straight face. Patch 5.1 and this stuff still happens and what else can we do but say "OMG BLIZZ I HAET YOU". There has to be method to the madness...revenge for driving Community Managers insane or something. Or they want to keep us angsty so that when something fairly good is released it looks Godlike. Hmmm *scratches beard*

I just completed this quest for the first and last time. What a huge waste of time, effort and nerves.

Ridiculously low drop rate on quest items - I can live with that
Monsters bugging so they evade randomly, sometimes even during fight - Annoying, but *!@# happens
Almost non-existing reward - I've done quests for less
Placing quest mobs in between masses of unrelated aggro mobs with no loot, no rep, no nothing - Meh
Placing quest into a neutral quest area (read: PvP battle when you least want it) - Takes more to piss me off

Putting all these into one (1) quest - Now that makes me your life-long enemy

This is easily one of the most annoying quests I have encountered. I wish I had looked here before starting the quest, I would have skipped it. As it was it took over 30 minutes to get 2 golden crownfeathers, I was seriously getting ready to lose it after dying twice and I am a VERY patient person. It got a little easier when I realized 1. to stick to the outer edges of the island and 2. to attack the cranes at the spawn point whether than pulling from afar. The outer edges have a lot more cranes than students and attacking the cranes on the spawn point (or very close to) eliminates the evade problem. Luckily the last 3 started to come a lot quicker. I was ready to give up or just come back another day. Unless you are anticipating devoting 45 minutes to an hour of your time to just this I would skip it or save it for another time when you have that much time and enough patience. Or just skip it entirely!

Last time I did this quest, I was at it for 30 minutes and not a single feather dropped, but I did get a lifetime supply of Wildfowl Breast! Anyways I'm not sure if they fixed the drop rate or not but I tried it again and I used 幸运药水 and I got all the feathers to drop under 10 minutes. I'm not sure if the potion actually had any effect on the quest items dropping or not, but I did get some additional goodies. Im going to try again without the potion and see what a happens. I hope this helps.

There's a stealthed crane that runs around the island really fast. It's not targetable, but when you collide with it, it vanishes. Shortly after doing this, the next couple of normal cranes dropped the golden feather for me.

It seems to do the trick. Hard to spot, but you should see it's shadow on the ground when it's on the beach.

If you just arrived on this quest and want information on how to complete it... you already took a horribly tedious first step. I would suggest either abandoning it or only completing it once and only once. Half an hour for your rewards is just not worth your time.

These quests are garbage and ARE NOT WORTH THE EFFORT! No rep, measly gold pay off, and a measly charm reward. AVOID BEASTMASTER QUESTS AT ALL COSTS!

It seems this quest has finally been fixed... two months before Legion release^^
The droprate is now as intended. Which means you can expect to kill every single crane on that island twice and be finished.

If for some reason you're doing the Beastmaster dailies, DO NOT pick The Crane as it takes about x3 as long as the other two. The drop rate of Pristine Golden Crownfeathers is VERY low.
