So, this may be a bit of a silly question, but WHY do we get an amazing FR item for KILLING the boss we need FR for?
This is Blizzard design at its finest.
I thought you needed Shadow Resistance for that nether drake? :S
Note the name of the item "Phoenix" Kael'thas perhaps? :)
This is the final step in the quest line to obtain the key for The Eye, which is the raid wing of Tempest Keep.
In reference to the Phoenix-Fire Band quest reward, the final boss of The Eye is Kael'thas Sunstrider who is well renowned for his use of fire magic (WC3: TFT).
To make next kills easier? Also it is for other bosses probably for final Tempest Keep one too.
Does this quest become available after completing Trial of the Naaru: Strenght, Mercy and Tenacity?
Yes, you'll prolly be able to visit Kael'thas and his fellas when you've killed magtheridon.
I noticed that in 2.1 the key to TK doesn't show up as a reward for completing the quest. Is it some kind of buff, similiar to the buff attunement to SSC now ?
Edit: Just realized it said "Do this and you will be granted the mark of the naaru."
So I guess I'm right ? =p
you will get the the Tempest Key right after you hand in the quest at A'dal. The key will be automatically shown up on your keyring. Take a notice. :)
With today's annoucement by Blizzard that there will now be no attunement required to enter The Eye, it is no longer necessary to do this quest:
However the quest will remain in game; the same post also implies they may add a reward in the future for those who have fully completed this questline.
So don't worry, you can still get your Phoenix-fire Band. =)
so,u only need attunement for kara,bt and hyjal?
I completed SSC attunement when 2.2, and the Eye attunement today. But I can't get the title while I recieved Phoenix-fire Band. BUG or what?

Just confirmed by talking to a gamemaster that you HAVE to complete the attunement-quest to Serpentshrine Cavern AND Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon to get the title "Champion of the Naaru".
It's stated in the latest patchnotes but most people miss it.
For quick reference, this will be displayed after the character name as "<Name>, Champion of the Naaru". For example:
Helini, Champion of the Naaru
can u still use say another title while using champion of the naaru like "stone guard <name>, champion of the naaru"
The chain to get the key (though not required, you get "Champion of the Naaru" title):
The Hand of Gul'dan
Enraged Spirits of Fire and Earth
Enraged Spirits of Water
Enraged Spirits of Air
Oronok Torn Heart
I was a lot of things

Yes, you can use the Champion of the Naaru title and any other title currently in the game at the same time. Please rate down Rossogia; he has no idea what he's talking about.
To get the title " champion of the naaru" you have to have validated too the quest
"The Cudgel of Kar'desh" given by Skar'this the Heretic
Is it possible to get the title now, after 2.3 has come out?
Do you still receive the title if you finish the quest chain now that 2.4 is out? Has anyone done it that can confirm?
You still get the title "<name>, Champion of the Naaru." if you complete it in v2.4
Not sure why but I also thought that these Trials were after the Arcatraz key quest chain lol. But You have to complete the VERY long quest chain that starts with this in Shadowmoon Valley
The Hand of Gul'dan
and then you receive these Trials. Also if you complete all 4 of these Trials,
Trial of the Naaru: Mercy
Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon
Trial of the Naaru: Strength
Trial of the Naaru: Tenacity
and complete the quest
The Cudgel of Kar'desh
you get the cool title
Champion of the Naaru
. The two quest chains mentioned above used to be attunement quests for the Tempest Keep: The Eye, and Serpantshrine Cavern but are no longer required to enter the two raid dungeons. Imo this title is more prestigious than the title Hand of A'dal since Hand of A'dal is a required title to do either Mount Hyjal or Black Temple.
Did mag's today. No title. Opened a ticket to a GM and they said no longer available to people. So gratz if u already have the title.... =|
It is confirmed that the old version of Trial of the Naruu: Magtheridon is no longer sharable and the new version is, blizzards trying to spread the new version I guess.
-> New version: does not reward title but the quest is exactly the same.
-> Old version: still awards the title, so if you had accepted it before 3.0 patch you can still get the titles by not abandoning it and just completing it.
Additionally, you could share the old version but now they restricted that but you can still get the new shared with you so you can end up having both old and new quests in the log, resulting in you getting double gold and reputation -at least when I last *tried* some weeks ago. :)
Perhaps someone can provide an answer for me.
I got this title on 3 characters a long time ago, but my warrior never completed it in time.
I see above, some people are mentioning if you have the "old" Cudgel of Kardesh, you can get the title.
My warrior has the "old" Cudgel of Kardesh, with the signet from Gruul is his inventory and he has completed two of the heroics. Does this mean I can accept the "new" Trials of Magtheridon quest after the heroics and then turn in Kardesh and get the title? Or do I also need the "old" Trials of the Magtheridon quest.
Just killed Mag and handed in both these quests, obtained previously to patch 3.0, and received my title :D
Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon
Champion of the Naaru
As of this patch, title is still possible to attain, if you still have the old quests sitting in your log.
Don't release if you die on Magtheridon.
I had a part of 8 80s and 1 70... I pulled healing aggro. (don't forget to kill ALL the trash) and I hit release thinking it would be a wipe... The rest of the raid carried on and killed Magtheridon, I got locked out for a week and when I could zone in I didn't get the kill credit!
So you can do this with 1 healer, 1 tank and 5 DPS 80s... if you die... don't release.
I did all the "old" quests before the patch exept the kill magtheridon one which I still can take from A'dal how can I see if its the right one?
confirmed today 31.10.2010 that if you have been having the quest sins TBC times and complete it now you won't get the title :/ huge bummer. But credit to those who killed him back in the days!
Confirming 16/12/2010 that if you have been having the quest in your questlog before the update of the quest (for me summer 2007) you will still get the achivement AND the title <Champion of the Naaru>
For those using the wowhead client/profiler:
This is the OLD version of the quest, with 10888 as the quest ID. If you didn't do it when the title was available, you will NEVER be able to do it, UNLESS you still have the old version in your quest log.
The new version of the quest, has 13430 as quest ID, and can be found here:
Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon
Do note that regardless of what version you did, wowhead profiler will show one quest as complete, and the other as INcomplete, and both will have the same name. So, to clear up the mess, mark the incomplete quest in your profile, and hit the Exclude button.
I just received the title and Achievement and did NOT have the old Mag quest. I recently picked up the Magtheridon part, well after 3.0, in fact it was post MoP. I did complete the cudgel part years ago however, and had the last part of the Trial quests in my logs since TBC.
I just decided to go solo Mag, and turn in the quest, but having read this page before, I did not expect to get any reward. Well, when I turned in the quest I did not receive anything, but upon logging out and back in I was awarded the achievement and title. Quite surprised actually. Now off to finish off my Hand of A'dal title.
Just completed this quest having received the quest from A'dal today so if you have the first parts this is still possible to complete patch 6.0.2
You have proven yourself as a being of great power. The naaru approve...
