It's intriguing that this quest was dug up (based on the date of the comments) before the WoW F&F alpha even started. This is probably quite old, but impossible to say as there's no info as to when the data was collected.

Funny that Acherus Deathcharger now is the Death Knight mount.

The interesting part is that this seems to predate WoTLK itself by almost a year, given development cycles that's not entirely unnatural, but, the fact that the quest existed in the game files in a datamined form is interesting.

This sword has been suggested to me as an upgrade for my level 54 Paladin, by the Armoury of all places...

I'm assuming that it's a Deathknight only quest though...

Apparently this is a/the quest from the very early alpha stage of WotLK. The NPC who gave out this quest is an orc, whom is presumably dressed in some sort of warlock gear. Also, apparently he is the master of death and resurrects you as a Death Knight, leading to this quest and it's completion. The reason this quest is labeled as 1 is because there was no 1st quest, and Blizzard decided this would be labeled quest 1 :P

i think i know what this is
the very original idea with dk's was that you could turn one of your characters into a death knight, once it was over lv55, rather than having a new character to make.
just a possibility

Strange how no one else has ever mentioned Kanrethad eventually became a Warlock NPC for the Green Fire questline, as well as an additional champion for the Class Hall in Legion.

Strange he started as a Death Knight. I wonder what else changed about him besides his class.
