No comments at all for scorpids? I am suprised. This is my PvP pet. Scorpid poison is stackable(to 5) and if you macro it in with a couple of your shots you can keep a full stack up on a enemy from 16 secs in the fight till you kill em. And when used with Kill Command it can stack up the damage very nicely. Nice DPS.

Have the purple/pink/white scorpid from tanaris thats leveled with me since I tamed it early 40s

okay so was discussing with a guildie so thought id add our breakdown for scorpid poison here... if anyones interested....

So at lvl 70 a scorpid… actually 64 is when scorpid poison rank 5 is learned….lvl 80 is rank 6 which does 45 nature dmg over 10 secs

Rank 5 in game reads 20-30 dmg over 10 secs

Okay random side not here... If you are MM spec, You can regenerate pets focus with critical hit. talents 2pts so 25/50. So my main goal is to get off my Serpant sting, Arcane shot/Aimed Shot and Chimaera Shot as my pets setting the stings. Then repeat. It will ensure pet gets its focus and does massive damage. (generally the chimaera shot crits)

So just using 20

25 sec, assuming pet has 20 focus regenerated then renew stack and has dmg output for next 10secs it had in secs 16-15. It renew entire stack.
26 if not renew stack expires.

So over 26 secs pet does 300 nature dmg while still melee’ing

300-450 nature damage over 26 secs

May not be a lot but its definitely a nice addition to the pet dps considering its and instant cast and can be renews to continue to. That’s just base without any talent points or hunter abilities increasing pet damage.

EDITED JAN 22nd 2008 3.0.8 ... NO longer applies, scorpid poison no longer stacks.

the biggest fact you failed to mention is that this protects viper sting, as it takes the effect of abolish poison.

As for 3.0.3:
Scorpid has the best DPS on simple boss fights.

By simple I mean ones where the boss doesn't have phases where the scorpid could lose his poison stack.

On more complicated battles, he is on the same level or higher than the other top two (Devilsaur and Cat).

He does however loses, by a considerable amount, on short fights, trash usually, to others.

And... only one scorpid can come to the raid since only one poison can be on a target.

As for 3.0.8: Nearly useless due to the nerf. Ignore it.

Agree with Argg0... Scorpid poison' damage is way more than cat's rake. I ran 10man nax with another hunter who had similar gear, I had the cat and the other hunter had a scorpid, both lvl 80 pets. Scorpid's top attacks were melee and scorpid sting. Cat's top attacks were melee and claw(or whatever that skill cats have is), and of course, rake falls last along with the scorpid's claw. But both dps very similar.

Unfortunately, this pet is right up there with Boars for being lacking tenacity pets. They've both been gutted pretty heavily. Here's to hoping Blizzard buffs these once great pets back up.

Due to 3.0.8 Scorpids are now completly useless. Doing even less dmg than before the nerf. But since they are tanking pets. They shouldnt out dps a normal ferocity pet *rolls eyes*

At rank 1 the highest I have gotten from the scorpid poison is 8... the lowest was 3 normal is 5.

For me this was a ground breaker to stop playing my hunter.

Though it isn't a great dpser anymore in raids, It's still a pretty good PvP pet:

- Roar of Sacrifice: Shares 30% of ur damage taken with ur pet for 10 seconds.
- Intervene: The pet catches up the next attack going for your hunter, so the hunter does not get hit but the pet instead.
- Charge: The pet charges an enemy, immobilizing it for 1 second.

4 ther skill, scorpids r useless, but they still hav some great skins and hey, at least its poison still does dmg right? And now since they "changed it so that all pets are now equal", the ONLY things that seperate each pet from each other is looks, talents and ther family skill. By now the only question left on every hunters lips is "what's next? all pets being just grey blobs, the only difference between them being ther name?" i hope not, pets used 2 make each hunter unique and it didn't matter not 2 long ago wat pet u had, but i feel that since blizz hav merged the stats of dps, pvp and tanking pets so that they r all +5% on dmg/health/armor (regardless of tenacity, ferocity or cunning) they r taking the fun out of huntering :( huntering used 2 b about having unique pets that allowed u 2 express who u were, were did that all go? dam blizz has f**ked us around alot but now they crossed the line :( anyways thats just my opinion (sry 4 gettin a little off track) anyways, c ya

I have done some tests of my own and found that (for me anyway) worms and bears do more single-target damage than scorpids but do scorpids have a hidden niche? Read more for theorycrafting or skip to the end for the possible hidden niche.

1. Scorpid Poison does its damage over 10 secs whereas Worms with Acid Spit do an average of 146 every 10 secs (average of 14.6 dps unmodified), meaning with just the damage from the skill alone, worms do 46% more damage. BUT they also apply an armor mitigation effect of 10% that stacks 2 times, increasing the damage output of not only the worm but all attackers with physical damage (including you).

2. Also if you have 3 points in Longevity worms can deal an average of 146 damage every 7 secs, increasing the dps to 20.85 (increase of 6.25) whereas if you have Longevity with Scorpids you actually end up knocking the last 2 ticks off of its' poison off allowing it to only do 60 damage over 7 secs which means 8.5 dps (loss of 1.5 dps)

3. With Scorpids vs. Bears the damage differences are;
Scorpid Poision
vs.
Swipe (This can effect not only a single target but all targets in a cone infront of the bear)
With Longevity Scorpid Poison does 8.5 dps (see working above) vs. Swipe which does

Conclusion:
Sadly scorpids are alot less useful in PvE (including raid/dungeon/group work), however just like there are dps pets in the cunning tree (Wind Serprent) and pvp pets in the ferocity tree (Hyena) I believe Scorpids do have at least one niche for the PvP (Cunning) tree.
Scorpid Poison, being a DoT can bring targets out of vanish, invisibility and will last even after your pet dies (up to 10 secs) which may mean the difference between a shammy/DK water walking/frost pathing away, or a mage/priest slow falling/levitating away.
Also because they are tenacity pets they have Thunderstomp which means you can send them in to a group of enemies in AB, AV, EotS, etc. and let em hammer away while you volley them to death - AoE grinding in BGs for hunters!

Way to go for Blizzard to nerf the beloved scorpids and their poisonous ability. I think their ability did better damage when it used to stack back in the day.

Believe it or not, some Hunters don't pick a pet based on its abilities or damage potential; they pick a pet because they like it.

yes well I'd imagine these hunters aren't in top raiding guilds progressing through WoW
or doing too well in Arena for that matter :P

rest in piece scorpids...... from stackable poison, to one stack of poison.....to a lame assed disarm you now join the other useless families of pets ty blizzard not all hunters pvp or need another disarm pet

A 10 second disarm can be BRUTAL in PvP... I wonder how well these will hold up against other pet choices?

in wotlk, the scorpid was good in pvp because its poison protected the hunters viper sting. in cata, the poison has been replaced with a 10-sec disarm. so pretty much it went from being a caster-killer pvp pet to now being a melee-killer pvp pet. in my own opinion (not sure if other hunters agree) the cataclysm scorpion would go better with a surv hunter now.

It stinks that the venom sting has been removed, but the disarm actually proves interestingly handy against Forgemaster Throngus when he pulls out his swords.

Come WoD, I will be quite sad to retire my red Madexx from active duty in my pet roster. Lakitu has had a good run; his send off high point was Bloody Coin farm while he disarmed many... many heroic geared players chasing our behinds (:

A damned shame. However it means the warp stalker and hydra will be out more often again! Woo!

It feels kindof weird that they have some disarm like a Bird of Prey rather than a secondary Serpent Sting! I mean like, you got a stinger, use it!

Scorpids no longer have a special ability with a Disarm effect. Their ability is called Deadly Sting. It puts the Mortal Wounds debuff on the target, reducing the healing the received by 25% for 10 seconds.
