Unlike a lot of pet abilities that might be available earlier on a different pet. Dark Simulacrum is only available at lvl20 on the pets that have it.
The copy effect of this ability last throughout the fight, which means:
1. Even if you or your opponent make a switch for the pet after using this ability, when that particular pet is sent out again, it will keep the copied ability.
2. You can only use the copy function for once in a fight and you cannot change your idea later about which ability you want to copy.
This ability does DATA ERROR to the target. It does this by DATA ERROR DATA ERROR DATA ERROR.

Required Pet Level: 20
Observes the opponent's next ability.
Uses the stored ability.
In PvP, this move is going to be far more strategic than the moves it replaces. And that's not necessarily a good thing, as it requires you to be very smart about when it's used, or you've effectively wasted two moves. You must be able to predict what your opponent will be casting next, and your pet should have a high speed so that you can cast this first. If you're second-turn, your opponent will likely notice and pick a weaker move for you to copy. More often than not, I will opt out of this move and pick moves that are less situational.
That said, in PvE this is much easier. Your opponents generally fight using scripts, so it's much easier to predict when, say,
is going to hit or when they're going to
Not mentioned in the tooltip, but this always goes first when copying, and also has a 3 round cooldown when using the copied ability (regardless of its original cooldown, or lack thereof).
5.4 PTR: "Dark Simulacrum has been replaced with a new ability, Rot. Rot deals Undead damage and temporarily turns the enemy pet's type into Undead."
Cool ability but 6 of the 8 pets that use it are already Undead.
This ability was the replacement for Dark Sim in patch 5.4
When u transform them into Undead, do they get the resurrect for 1 round passive? I guess not, but would like to be sure :P
Warning, misleading tooltip -
This ability doesn't really turn enemies into Undeads!
In game, the debuff tooltip merely states "taking damage as if the pet was Undead".
Pets affected by Rot have their family icon and description switch to Undead - but don't be fooled, that has no effect in gameplay. Their underlying class remains the same, and with it all the bonuses it entails (Mechanicals still activate
, Critters are
, Magics retain their
, etc). Same way, they don't get the
passive from Undeads either, so you don't have to worry about making enemies come back to life while using this spell.
The only thing this ability does is
merely changing their weaknesses and resistances
to that of the Undead family. This means that any pet affected by Rot will take
more damage from Critter
less from Dragonkin attacks
As of 5.4, all of the pets with
can benefit from its effect to some extent, be that to supress a resistance (for example, making
deal 100% damage to flying foes) or to generate a weakness. Most direct one is
, who can make any enemies weak to his
. On the other hand, the
could accidentally make enemies resistant to their own
, were they to use it. Keep that in mind!
On the matter of Voodoos, they can however make strong combos with
; leaving any target vulnerable to multi-hit Critter attacks such as
Worst-case scenario you can always fall back to using it just for raw damage, since it has high accuracy and is still relatively hard-hitting at
Is there any pet that can count this spell?
I like this ability, but none of the pets that have it can take advantage of its ability to make the enemy pet undead. There needs to be a pet with a Critter damage ability, like the untameable Eleanor does. Yes, you can swap to a pet that does, but you have to lose a turn when you do that. Maybe that's why it lasts 5 rounds...
