Unfortunately the attunement is long, yet very worth it. As a starting raider, you'll need every ounce of Fire Resistance you can get. The neck piece you get will have +15 FR, and will allow you to enter Onyxia's Lair
Unlike other instances, she resets every 5 days (Not 3 like the post above). So make sure to kill her every time she respawns as these days most guilds know what to do and it's only a 15min job. She drops the tier 2 head pieces which is a fun prize plus a 18 slot bag. Her head can be looted as well and turned in for a FR piece (Which like I said, you'll need every ounce of)
There are three stages to this Dragon.
1. Aggro control. - The main tank basicly gains as much aggro as possible and as fast as he/she can. Around 97% the rest of the raid can start slow dps (auto attack).
2. Stage 2 starts at 70% - Onyxia enters the air and continues to damage the raid by spitting out fire balls and her infamous "Deep breathe" which aoe's a good portion of her lair doing huge ammounts of damage (This often whipes raids) The only way to stop it is to keep your raid spread out nicely. All range dps should be killing her and everyone should DoT at this point. Also melee classes need to take out the whelps that help at this stage.
3. Landing - once onyxia lands make sure the MT has aggro, then you basicly just steadily dps her down. Congratulations!
the attunement for this is crazy long, but doable in 1 day. although it might sound crazy, 3 of my friends completed this quest in that time. for some, finding rexxar is the hardest part, for some, it might be the 'wiping with pugs on drakk' part. whatever it is, this quest is way too long and way too hard. easy with guildies though =)
Depending on how gear your raid is, there is any ways to do phase 1
If your raid is mostly geared out in atleast half T2 or more your tank will gather as much aggro as possible. Warlocks, Hunter, Priest will throw up all dots and stings. Rogues will gather 5 combo points , warriors will build up as much rage as they can and mages will use either arcane missles or frostbolts ( onyxia is immune to fire), warlocks will keep redoting and everyonce in awhile they will throw a shadow bolt , and hunters will use arcane shot and auto shoot.
If your raid is not mostly geared out in at least half T2 you should just let your tank gather aggro and do pertty much the same thing as i stated above with the only changes. Instead of placing dots on onyxia just have all casters wand her while rogues and warriors do the same. At every 10% example 90%, 80% etc. stop all attacks and let the main tank gather aggro. This will ensure that the main tank has 100% aggro and will keep onyxia from whipeing the raid.
During this first phase everyone will stay under the main tank by atleast 10,000 on the aggro meater ( the best one to use is ktm threat meater), but go all out to get onyxia to phase 2 as quick as possible. At 75% pallians should rebuff the raid. at 69% onyxia shouild get ready to move into phase 2. At the time that onyxia moves into phase 2 all rogues should use their 5 combo points on eviscerate and warriors should use their recklessness. This sould take onyxia's hit points down at lease 1 or 2%.
During Phase 2 every one should be spread out in the whole cave and this is where whelp groups will come into play. All mages and warriors will be taking care of the waves of welps that spawn. The rogues along with the main tank will stay under onyxia doing full dps. Warlocks will keep dots on onyxia at all times should be at least 2 dots per lock. Hunters will be spread out more than others and during this whole phase they should be doing their discracting shots. All dots should be kept on onyxia untill 45%. It is important to make sure every one is spread out as much as possible, because if too many are in one area onyxia could do a deep breathe. A deep breathe can whipe a raid because the whole room just goes up in flames. In the case of a deep breathe everyone in the raid should move to the very outer edges this will reduce the chance of taking too much fire damage and possiblity of dieing.
At 40-45% onyxia will enter phase 3. At this time all rogues should vanish and priest should fade. Everyone should move to the northwest corner of the cave. If alliance and have a dwarf priest a fear ward should be placed on the main tank. During this phase only priest dots and hunter stings should be used since they have ways to reduce aggro. Onyxia will fear everyone during this phase and to keep unwanted people being feared into the whelp caves everyone but the rogues and warriors should get up on the northwestern ledge. Warlocks and mages should use their wands to keep from gaining aggro. As long as everyone controls their aggro onyxia should go down in a matter of mins.
Onyxia drops all T2 Helms and her head which can be turned in for a buff and a choice of rewards of a trinket, ring, or neck. Once all loot has been taken off of onyxia a 315 skinner can skin onyxia and should get Onyxia Scales which is use to make onyxia scale cloaks which is needed in BWL.
Onyxia's Lair access is granted by doing you're faction's attunement chains.
Alliance Attunement chain begins in Marshal's Refuge, in The Burning Steppes. Dragonkin Menace is the quest name which begins from Helendis Riverhorn.
Horde Attunement Quest begins in Kargath, Badlands.
You go up the tower and there you will find Warlord Goretooth, you have to talk with him for a minute or so and he will give you a letter that will give you the Warlord's Command quest.
Once you complete both of these quest chains you will recieve

Can't one enter the instance after someone opened the door, or will it be something like "You are not attuned to Onyxia's Lair" ?

Not sure how you people are soloing it. I wanted to take a quick peek but I couldn't get in tonight. It said I have to have the amulet and be in a raid group. Guess I have to do the quests now. :(
Managed to solo it at 70 as a Retribution Paladin.
Now at level 80, its a complete joke.
A little tip, you can skip all of the trash by hugging walls and jumping on the edges.
As a Holy paladin I spent about 35 minutes soloing her. Had Seal of Wisdom up and never went oom, spammed Holy shock and Consecration, Judgement of Wisdom.
Sacred Shields absorbs pretty much everything, also use Fire resistance aura since the fire is the only thing that hurts. I can actually stand in the deep breath now, without worrying about dying. I believe it hit me for about 500 2-3 times.
Death Knights, Paladins, Druids, Possibly Warlocks and Hunters can solo this easy at 80.

Solo'd as an Enhancement Shaman with Epic 10 and 25 man gear. Pretty easy even though phase 2 gets a bit hectic at times. Took me 13 minutes from start to finish. Onxyia dropped Orb of Deception, I think I will try and kill Onyxia weekly now.
Make sure you keep Water Shield up and always use Maelstrom weapon to heal yourself.
Solo'ed as a 80 dk using random blue's (quest/dungeons). Very easy for some reason...
You need to invite some guy to your group and convert to a raid to get inside.
You need to be in a raid group to enter all raid istances.
You can just invite a friend to a party, promote the party to a raid group, and then you can enter alone.. And your friend stay in stormwind ;)
Easy way to make 57-160g depending on if you 3 man or solo it.

Just tried soloing as a lvl 80 hunter, got her down to 40ish% a few times but dealing with tons of whelps,breaths and the unfortunate despawning of my pet when i was across the room fd regenning health was enough for 1 day.
Solo'd as a 80 Prot Pally in mostly Heroic / badge gear.
Was pretty fun, first phase just tank and spank, keep your mana up.
Second phase, as a Prot Pally I let the welps hit me so I could get mana from Sanctuary
Third Phase, tank and spank. At one point she knocked me into a hollowed out part in the wall with welps in it. All i did was let them hit me again so I could mana up.
Really fun fight to solo, took me about 25 minutes. 7 Items dropped, 130g.
I don't think many classes could solo this, mostly Paladins and DKs.
Just solo'd for the second week in a row. Very easy with some pots, and bandages. Keep pet on onyxia, make sure mend pet is always up, DPS enough to go fast but not fast enough to pull in first phase.
Second phase, just leave pet on onyxia with mend on. AoE all the whelps down with 1 or 2 volley. Feign every 30 sec or so when onxiya is casting at you to avoid extra dmg, bandage when needed then avoid deep breaths. change over to viper as needed.
Having viper on while dealing with the adds caused problems, as they did not die fast enough and caused my health to drop extra. Once she lands keep mend pet up and finish her off.

I just solo'd Ony on my 80 Holy paladin, wearing a mix of Holy and Ret gear, mostly blues with a couple epics. It took 45 minutes, but was totally worth it because she dropped my T2 helm!
It was so easy as a pally, just use Divine Plea on every cooldown, keep yourself healed at all times, and don't worry about whelps, just kill them with consecrate. I also used Seal and Judgement of Wisdom, never went below 30% mp.

Why do you guys say she drops 130-160g? She only dropped 51g with me, and I solo'd it :/
The amount of gold she drops was lowered in patch 3.0.8 (significantly)

Two manned her with a Disc/Holy Priest and an Elemental Shaman, both in just a few epics from badges, heroics, and Naxx, and some quest reward blues and greens. Didn't come close to death. Priest didn't even have to heal alf of the time, just helped DPS.The shammy probably could have solo'd her. Made up wards of 90g from the gold and DE'd items.
2-manned feral druid (tank) and holy/dicipline priest, took about 15-20 mins easy. priest ran out of mana on phase 2 but innervate and she was back up to full. if you are 2 manning this with a priest, dont let them holy nova just use your own AoE
Soloing her is so easy now that Blizzard have nerfed her wealth, last time she dropped 50g, down from like 170g.
Don't think any of her drops have been nerfed though, thankfully.
Pretty easy as Ret in Naxx10 Gear - I'm dropping her in under 11 now, and should be able to get sub-10 minutes once I upgrade my weapon (TS Destroyer)
Couple things to remember:
1. Use Fire Res Aura - you take very little damage, so you can...
2. Switch from Seal of Light/Wis to Command every time your AW is up. You can burn more than 5-6% of her HP by going balls out during the AW period, and if you've juggled SoL/SoW properly, and used Fire Res aura, you should be able to get back to full hp and mana very quickly.
3. Even when she's in the air, you can and
attack her. Your Consecrate and DS will take care of the whelps (This is pretty much the only time you have to use Cons. If you're cruising along in any other phase with high hp/mana, feel free to drop a couple Consecrates).
Then the usual stuff - use Divine Plea whenever it's off CD, and don't let Sacred Shield drop off.
I have been soloing her for a few weeks in a row since the expension as my 80 enhance shammy, today, I was not able to kill her, seems like there is more whelps and she uses deep breath more.

Just two-manned her - I'm lvl 80 Shadow Priest in mostly 10-man Naxx gear and my son, a lvl 80 DK geared in quest blues with a couple of purple crafted items. We only received 26 gold each, however. What's with the loot?

Well. First thing, is that Onyxia has been nerfed really badly, since that I solo her in a matter of 15 minutes, her gold has been reducted from around 160g to a measly sum of 51g. She drops around 3 or 4 epics, 3 BoE rares, a onyxia hide backpack and her head of course, which gives you a choice of 4 items.
It is a very. very easy fight,
Pop Fire Resistance Aura,
Phase 1 is tank her at the back wall so she doesnt through you into the whelps using wing buffet. Which will become a major problem. Just keep your heals up to full. Using my Seal of Wisdom, to keep my mana freshed, and Judgement of Wisdom, and when my health gets below 60% just use Holy Light.
When Phase 2 comes around, she flys up in the air and casts fireball. This is usually when her health is at 65%, also whelps come out into the middle of the lair, and attack you. Fairly easy to kill around 3k health per one. Dont be tricked. But you can attack her when she is floating up in the air.
Phase 3 is basic, she casts bellowing roar every 10 -15 seconds of the last phase, which fears you for 2 - 3 seconds. Just tank her at the back wall. So you wont run into the whelp nests and cause more trouble. LOL.
She gives an OK, loot. But I'd prefer to run the 4 Dragons of Nightmare.

I killed her today, this was the setup:

lvl 68 Blood DK (me)
Technically, we just tanked and spanked, she died pretty quickly cause of the palas dmg. I had fun, even though she didnt put up with a real fight.
What is the minimum level required to enter Onyxia's Lair?
I just solo'ed her as an 80 feral druid, tank specced. I one-shot her with no strategy going in.
Phase one was so easy, just tank n spank, I used Frenzied Regeneration once, but it probably wasn't necessary. I am also an herbalist so I have Lifeblood and with the Frenzied Regen glyph I could get back to full health every 3 minutes.
Phase 2 was annoying because I had trouble finding her, but the whelps would go down with a couple of swipes.
Deep breath barely did anything, same with the fireballs, but I was a little low on health during parts of Phase 2.
Overall it was quite easy, just took a while because I was often rage starved so couldn't do as much damage as I would have liked.
This is gonna become a weekly thing for me, easy 50+ gold and maybe even get a T2 helm, would be cool to get.
As an Elemental Shaman, I found this fight is very easy. It takes me between 10 - 20 minutes each time. I have 5/5 T7.5 and Heroic items but I still was doing this when I first hit 80.
For Elemental Shamans looking to do this, just spam Lightning Bolt till she drops due to how mana efficent it is. The Totems I used where (Stoneskin / Fire Resist / Wrath of Air / Totem of Wrath). Just keep up Water Shield and Thunderstorm each time you can to keep 100% mana up pretty much the whole time. At the beginning of Phase 2, use your Fire Elemental & it will make things easier being immune to fire while taking care of adds. On Phase 3 instead of Stoneskin, use Tremor(Which you should know to do anyways). Just juggle LB's and heal effiecently due to P1/P3 knockbacks which can push you out and then she ports you back which can be deadly if your low. In Phase 2, eating Deep Breaths are nothing, just start a heal when you see it and it's like it never happened.
All in all, you should never go below 80% mana and just take your time. I hope you enjoyed this guide & Good Luck =)
Took my lvl 73 ret pally and a friends 61 hunter & also a lvl 80 ret pally. The hunter died of course but me and the other ret 2 maned Onyxia and her friends in 30 minutes! HECK YES! xD

I want to point out that you do NOT have to be level 55 to enter or participate in this raid. I am not yet sure of the level restriction, but as soon as I know I will update this information. At this time of writing, the lowest person in the raid is level 53.
Question.........if i were to go in as a 54 priest (or 55 i can get it easily) with a 68 pally prot pally, me healing, would it be possible to down her? And no im not crazy but i really think we can pull this off.

how long does onyxia take to finish for the horde? an estimation would be nice :)
Ive easily soloed her as a feral druid. in Ground phase i used bear form, to get reduced damage. The Damage was lower, but i made it out fine. My improved aspect of the pack kept me in a nice health balance.
During Air phase i went into cat form. (luckily i can attack her with my melee abs, or i would have no chance) to deal more damage, besides her fireballs took less hp on me than melee. Besides my Improved aspect of the pack kept me healed. But sometimes i got low on hp and healed while she was moving to another fire range. And i killed whelps when they showed up, to make sure they dont overwhelm me.
When she landed again, i went bear form again to be able to get reduced damage. Becuz if i went cat, she would deal more damage. And if i tried to heal while she was chasing me, the damage would be even greater, and i would loose more than gain. She also kept fearing me with bellowing roar, but that was not much to worry about.
It took around 35 minutes to kill her, but it was alot of gold to loot, plus a 16 slot bag, and in addiction i didnt have to roll for the loot XD
I havn't seen any comments of mages soloing Onyxia...
is it possible to solo as a lvl 80 mage, and if so, what spec would be best?
Just solo'd her as an 80 Death Knight (Unholy spec) in a mixture of Naxx10 and Naxx25 gear (with Fury of the Five Flights and Greatness). She went down pretty easily in approx 8 minutes (according to Skada). Didn't have any fire resist, I didn't try to avoid any of her attacks, and when the whelps came I just dropped Death and Decay and let nature take its course. I angled myself so when she knocked me back it was away from the eggs, I just dealt with fear, and basically ground into her.
Tank and spank. AoE the adds (set it and forget it) and beat her up. Use Death Strike obviously. Bust cooldowns for a faster fight, but you don't need to. Death Pact your ghoul if it comes to that, but it shouldn't. Very easy fight, and lots of gold in a short amount of time.
Correction. At the time he tried it, there was still an attunement, so he wouldn't be able to open the door. Only people with the necklace could open it.
That's atleast how it worked for me back in the old days.
Balance Druids (Level 80) shouldn't have any problems soloing this at level 80. Make sure you don't spend all your mana and you'll be fine.

This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into a normal 10-player mode and a Heroic 25-player mode. We will be adding new items to Onyxia’s loot table that have the same model as some of the classic loot from this dungeon, like Tier 2 helms, with stats updated to match the current level of content.
There will be a special new item too: a normal drake-sized 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself called an Onyxia Broodling
. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.

In 3.2.2 Onyxia will be a level 80 10/25 raid dungeon in honor of WoW's fifth anniversary. She will drop loot with updated stats and will have a very slight chance of dropping a 310% speed mount.
It is very important to note that
the 10 man and 25 man versions of the raid can drop the 310% mount and they have the same chance at dropping the mount.
Everyone make sure you take your lv55+ alts through if you want the Feat of Strength killing her current incarnation will become!

this is also Blizzards first step of revamping old content

the Trash now are 8o elite with approx 867000 hp
Onyxia herself has 4484k hp
The Fight is essentially the same however during the air phase when Whelps come from left and right now there is a spawn of a Dragonkin elite (one at a time) that comes in from where the raid enters this needs to be picked up by tanks and dps'd.
After each is killed I noticed they seemed to be on a timer, and more of the elite Dragonkin continued to come(one at a time), some overlapped if not killed in time.
I tanked her for ground phases on the right wall just to the left of the egg chamber up against wall (from my own Vanilla xp this was same tanking spot i used)
The new LVL 80 Onyxia just went live today with patch 3.2.2.

The 10man group I was in ran into a situation where two Onxyia Wardens would spawn nearly immediately after the start of the fight.
Is this normal? Since I have read nothing about it I am very confused. We assumed at first it was part of the encounter, but that seems impossible, our other guess was that they spawn if you get too close to the entrance ramp.
Any information is appreciated.
Onyxia will use the same model but drop different gear, I also think we will be seeing emblems of conquest drop from this raid

5 DPS // Have atleast 3 AOE DPS. Mage/ Hunter/warlock. But ofc every kind of setup will work. 10man can even be done as Class run/ same as VOA 10man.
16-17 DPS/ 5-6 AOE is very preferred here. Because you need to waste those Whelps down very fast. Have atleast 3 Range helping downing the Warden, as the other go back to Onyxia when the Whelp grp are dead.
DPS atleast 3.5. But nowdays witht the gear avaible ppl are reaching 4.5 and above.
Phase 1: same o ' same o '
BOSS Health- 4.88M 10man // 22.3M 25man
Onyxian Warden 189k 10man // 630k 25man
Whelps 63k 10man // 1890k 25man
**Phase 1 is identical to the original fight. It lasts from 100% health to 65%, and Onyxia utilizing basic dragon abilities - Flame Breath (heavy hit in frontal cone), Cleave (hitting up to 10 targets), Tail Sweep (with a large knockback), and Wing Buffet (frontal cone knockback).
*Tank Onyxia with your back towards a wall, to avoid knockback from Wing Buffet.
*DPS and Healers should be position at Onyxia's sides to avoid both Tail Sweep and the frontal baddies. The tank might need some heavy heals, as the spells hit rather hard, and some cannot be resisted/mitigated. Other than that, you should be fine here.
**Phase 2: There is Something new here
This is probably the hardest and the most annoying part of the fight. There are two things to watch out for - adds and Onyxia's new spells. Note to melee DPS - you can still attack Onyxia even while she is in the air, as long as you stand underneath here and follow here when she moves, but remember also to avoid the Breeath if u are a bit outside.
*There are two kinds of adds spawning during this phase - Onyxian Whelps and Onyxian Lair Guards.
The whelps will spawn in packs of 40 (20 on each side ). The first pack will spawn seconds after Onyxia lifts off in the air, and a pack will hatch every ~90 seconds after that while in this phase. While it is good to have a tank on them, try to AoE them down as soon as possible, as you want to mitigate overall damage and keep your mobility - you'll need both.
*Make the offtank the one who Gather his own side of trash and try to move to the other side where the main tank gather his own , when all gathered, Start AOE. This will make it easier on the raid.
The Lair Guards are new NPCs added in the 3.2.2 version of Onyxia. The guards will spawn more frequently than the whelps (approximately every 30 seconds), and will spawn in pairs (possible a pair from each side). They don't have too much health, but have really high melee damage output through abilities like Cleave, Fire Nova, Flame Lash (which reduces fire resistance), and Ignite Weapon (17.5k/25k extra fire damage to targets in melee range).
*It is good to have a tank on them and 1 RANGE DPS to help take them down very fast, while other have their own duty of the fight, but it is better to kill them from afar. Keep your melee DPS away from them at all times.
*The other thing to watch out for are Onyxia's spells. Her Fireballs are something you should just heal through - although it is advised that you spread out, as the missiles do damage in a 10 yards wide area. /range on DBM is your friend again. And, of course, there is the Deep Breath...
Deep Breath is now on 100% random cast intervals - which means that DBM, or BigWigs, or whatever boss mods addon you use won't be able to warn you in advance. You will however see a raid warning/emote "Onyxia takes a deep breath". As soon as you see that, you need to forget about anything else you are doing, locate Onyxia, figure out which way she is facing, and get behind her quickly. Deep Breath is very unforgiving.
**REMEMBER DO not Tank the Whelps or the Warden in the middle, as she make her Deep Breath all straight. Everyone in the Raid, EVERYONE should have a look where she is aiming her head before she hit the Breath.
Phase 3: NUKE, Yes Nuke it.
**Phase 3 starts when Onyxia's health reaches 40%. At this point she will land permanently and cast a raid-wide fear, accompanied by lava eruptions. Raid wide damage, with extras for the tank - nothing you haven't seen before.
Unlike the original version of the fight, Onyxia will no longer wipe aggro between phases, which means that your tank from Phase 1 should be the first person she goes to in Phase 3. So as i said, NUKE IT..!
Throughout this phase Onyxia will continue to use all of her abilities from phase 1 (Flame Breath, Cleave, Tail Sweep, Wing Buffet), alongside with Bellowing Roar (3-second fear) and Eruption (AoE during the fear). Whelps will continue to spawn as well, but they won't be nearly as many as in Phase 2, so a few of your ranged DPS should be able to handle them quickly.
Note: If a player gets close to the eggs, at any point of the fight, the nearest whelps will hatch. This is why it's very important to move carefully and not get knocked back during any of the phases.

Can i still go raid Onyxia´s Lair for lvl 60´s ?
So, where is this pet we're supposed to get? Didn't the anniversary thing already happen?
The onyxia lvl 60's is now a feats of strenght achievement as you cannot complete anymore.
What's the recommended quality on gear? Heroic / early raid / Ulduar+? On the tank to be specific.
Most just wants the tank to be completely overpowered so they can slack off, but what's the minimum?

For some reason, AoE spells hit for terribad damage in phase 2. I don't know why, but I suppose the whelps have insanely high armor or something. My Volley that normally hits for 1900 non crit, 2.7k-ish crits was hitting down in the 3 digit numbers...I believe I was critting like 800.
Anyone care to explain to me? And this will probably get downrated, but it's nice information if you can get the answer.

Attempted to 2 person this recently with a disc priest and a prot pally. We could take the trash one at a time, but were a bit out of our skill level. We probably could have managed with a third, and a more skilled pair could possibly pull it off.
Solo'd her on 10 player mode today as a hunter.
Use a Spirit Bond build, with a Tenacity, tank specced pet. Have mend pet glyph.
Go MM and have concussive barrage to kite her whelps while aoeing them down.
Watch the entrance to the room in Phase 2 while fighting the whelps, if you see a dragonkin spawn and come running into the room, Feign Death, this will de-aggro the dragonkin, allowing you to focus on killing onyxia and her whelps. It needs to be done fast though, if they get inside the room they won't drop aggro.
As soon as you hit phase 3, you've pretty much got the kill. Good luck!
Solo'd her as a Blood DK today.
However if you wish to solo her as melee class like that, prepare to spend a long time in the fight since your melee swings doesn't reach. Just keep adds under control, kill off the big one quickly but do not let the small ones overwhelm you.
In case something goes really wrong, make sure you got 1-2 cooldowns ready (I always kept Icebound ready just in case.) And whenever you get the chance to, throw Outbreak at Onyxia or just Icy touch if Outbreak is on CD.
Took me 59 minutes and 48 seconds according to DBM.
Solo'd as a 377 feral druid, it's pretty easy if you know what you're doing. I would strongly suggest that you unglyph frenzy regen as you'll most definitely need it. In phase 2 you'll have to use swipe/thrash and faerie fire spam, otherwise you'll be in phase 2 forever. Have fun, enjoy your 90 odd gold, as well as the one gem you get! Good luck!
Solo-ed as a Blood DK last night. First attempt I couldn't get the adds down fast enough so for second attemp I equipped my dps gear. This was not a good idea, since I got killed pretty fast.
For my third attempt I equipped mostly tanking gear + my best dps items and trinket and got her down in around 45 min. (no mount drop unfortunately). Just like the other DK has posted it comes down to keep your diseases on Onyxia. I speeded things a bit up by making sure to hit her with Death Coil as much as possible. Used army on every cd in phase 2, used ghoul when I saw I was getting in trouble healthwise. Just make sure that in phase 3 you're in the center to avoid being feared in the wrong stuff. Average item level around 365. I used mirror trinket, but I
think that's a waste because the fire doesn't hurt that much.
Onyxia is still the most badass looking boss in WoW imo :D
Onyxia claims usually she must leave her lair in order to feed, im just a tad confused on how she fits her fat @$$ out of that little entrance.
Tips to kill Onyxia as a Feral Druid in patch 4.3.3
1st Phase (100%-65%)
- Open as kittie with survival instincts up and burn down 10% of her HP and then switch bear form for the next 25% and focus on being at least half HP whne Phase 2 starts (A good tip here is to keep your back to the centre of the room as when she knocks you back you can cast 2/3 hots on yourself and go bear again before she is in mele range.) - as she transitions go kittie pop berserk and put up a rip and rake with max duration to help shorten phase 2.
2nd Phase (65%-40%)
- Put Onyxia in focus and always stay underneath her whilst moving in small circles to avoid the fire ball she casts. Spam swipe and thrash on the adds and Farie Fire her when possible and prioritise the guardians that come in (they do alot of damage and should die quickly). After the guardian is dead just don't worry too much about the small adds and swipe / thrash Onyxia till phase 3 whilst avoiding the bad stuff on the ground.
3rd Phase (40%-Dead)
- Kill off any surviving adds and just finish her off using CDs if needed (Bark skin is awesome to use if feared ofc)
(remember to use Frenzied Regeneration, Barkskin and Survival Instincts when needed and prioritise staying alive as there is no enrage so you should 1) Avoid Fire, 2) Kill Guardians 3) Swipe and Thrash Onyxia)
Finally make sure you have Thick Hide talented else the guardians and Onyxia will make short work of you and it's just chance whether you survive the fight.

Just finished getting all three Ony10 achieves at once. Here is how you do eet:
1 Tank, 2 Healers, 7 Ranged.
Assign roles to two runners. They will jump over the left and ride sides of the cliff where the tunnel ends in her lair. They do this precisly when she jumps into the air, normally around 65% but in this setup about 50% so just watch for her jump. After she flies up in the air the runners jump down into their respective tunnels and pop 25 eggs each just by running through them. Runners take care to do no actual damage to whelps or they pick up aggro. Remember - for "Many Whelps" achieve you need to pop 50 eggs total within 10 seconds of her liftoff. These are in addition to the 20 or so eggs that already pop by themselves in each tunnel.
Tank her in the middle of the room, not at a wall. Ranged is stacked on a marked player they will stack on for the entire fight. The advantage of this tankspot is when she drops aggro at 65%: in the normal spot on the far wall, at this point within a few strides she is out of raid's range. But having the raid already in the middle means they can pretty much stay in place, doing about 100k to 200k more damage on her so when she flies up she is really at around 50% or less. The other advantages of fighting in the middle is (a) she won't land a mile away from you (b) if she does pull a fear off nobody will be feared into the tunnels to pop more eggs. Of course with no melee needing to stack at her sides, ranged can group up anywhere where they pick up her hit box, anywhere not directly in front of her that is.
The second she flies up RL spams GOGOGO and pop heroism. Everybody stacks on the marked ranged so when whelps come out the tank can aoe and pick up as many as possible. Trust me, by the time the whelps come out she will be flying down without casting a single fire wall (a cone-attack which normally ranged avoids by standing directly underneath her). Also, it happens so quick that it's likely no big adds have spawned.
As soon as she drops tank slaps a taunt on her then pops their major damage mitigation cd and concentrates on staying alive lest the 90 to 100 whelps and bigazz dragon bring him from full health to dead in a blink of an eye. Tank doesn't worry about dpsing Ony too much, just keeping aggro on everything possible and stagger-stepping/overlapping their dam-mit cd's. Ranged will nuke her down extremely quick, usually before a single fear goes off, and most of the whelps dissapear when she dies. Seems like the fight only took a couple minutes on 10m, and considering its the same number of eggs needing to be popped for both raids, the 25 version of this strat should be much easier.
It's an mostly easy strat for doing all three achieves at once. GOOD LUCK.
Onyxia's Lair is one of the best places to farm rugged leather- The trash before Onyxia each skin for 15+ rugged leather, with 630k hp a gaurd, it's easily soloable at 85, and you can just reset the instance after you clear out the 4-5 (5 i think) gaurds in there.The only trouble is they cast a spell that hits pretty hard (20k+)-Happy skinning!
So i just spend 55 minuttes soloing this one.. As an 87 prot warrior, oh god the pain having to deal 1000k dmg only using throw

If your doing this as a warrior make sure, for the sake of your sanity that you spec into storm bolt and dragon roar.
Also I found that in certain areas of the room during P2 it is possible to hit her with AoE's like hero leap and whirlwind if you get right under her, also second wind makes you just about invincible as long as whelps are under control.
Does anyone happen to know if 25 man has any higher chance to drop the mount? I'll gladly take two years fighting her if it means higher mount chance.
Solo on Frost Mage
Honestly cant say it was easy. Took 3 attemps.
1stage: dont blow cooldowns, shield and DPS
2 stage; images on Ony (enough to make her to land), kill adds (they have 60k HP)
3 stage: Time Warp, burn the boss ignoring big adds
Got 3 archieves
Solo'd 25m Onyxia as lvl 90 / 470~ Prot Paladin.
Save yourself the trouble and bring some friends. It's not difficult to solo as Prot Paladin but P2 lasts forever.
Set Ony as focus and stay under her hitbox at all times, AOE abilities hit, single target ranged abilities hit as well.
Definitely bringing some ranged DPS class along with me next time.................
Came across this post an hour or so ago while just reading about, bored. Thought I would give it a try on 10 man.
Fury warrior 480+ item lvl, had dragon Roar and spec'd into Storm Bolt as mentioned by a previous poster for fight, also had Second wind as a precaution, I wasn't too clued up on the fight and had no idea of what damage I would take. And know its only a lvl 80 raid but i'm far from a hardcore player so not the sharpest tool in the box as far as playing goes, to me it was still looking like a bit of a challenge.
Popped all CD's at start.. Banner, Reck, Bloodfury etc very quick getting to P2. Once Ony was up in the air i kinda ran around like a headless chicken a bit, wasn't sure what would be best way to deal with adds etc.. after a minute of time wasting I simply stood under her, took care of all the adds as they came and used Dragon Roar, Storm bolt and throw abilities on Onyxia as they were available. P2 must of took me a bit over 2 minutes as my CD's were refreshed by time she landed again.
P3, popped Cd's again and nuked to the end.
Fight over in just under 4 mins... could of been quicker of I hadn't run about like an idiot :-p
I hadn't thought to try farming the mount before reading this topic hence my post. Seems a nice easy farm for those with the patience :-)

Just solo'd onyxia as a 487 ilvl windwalker monk.
Took about 1 min 30s.. Was my second time doing it and the mount dropped :D
For any elemental shamans trying to solo this, I (474 sham) just solo'd Onyxia with the help of
this youtube video.
Things to remember:
Always keep your healing stream totem up.
When pulling, run across the room, and keep your back to the wall (she has a pushback).
When drakes come, run to the center of the room; put down searing totem, cast chain lighting, and use thunder between earthquakes.
Use an earth or fire elemental during phase 3, because her roar fears. Watch not to step on cracks.
Quite easy as a discipline priest (489 ilvl). Used
Right at the start, and once more when it was off cooldown. In phase two, when she's up in the air I applied a
. Killed the big adds and aoe'd the first wave of whelps. When she came down again in phase 3 I just nuked her, while shielding myself trying not to get too much damage from the second wave of whelps.
It took me only 3 minutes and 44 seconds to solo this on 10 player difficulty.
Just solo'd the 10-man as a Frost DK at lvl 90, and did so in less then 5 minutes. I
in the T14 LFR set. Did have my sha-touched 2H axe (Also LFR), as well as the +500 str gem.
Here's what I did:
At the start of the fight, I brought up Army of the dead.
When she entered phase 2, I stayed underneath her. Spam Howling Blast. Most of my ghouls were still up, so they handled the adds. I used Death pack once, right before she dropped.
Once she was back on the ground, it was pretty much just pillage and destroy.
I had frost presence up for the entire fight. Never used Icebound Fortitude. Was actually shocked I managed to get it in one run.
Hopefully this helps someone else.
Easy (but long) solo of the 25 Man version for Ret Pally (ilvl 488)
Heres what I did:
- Use Seal of Insight
- Burn through first phase. When Ony takes off, this is where things get fun.
- Seal of Insight should be enough healing to take you through trash, however I still used Flash of Light when the Selfless Healer proc was up.
-When trash was at a low number I would pop Avenging Wrath and start the dps'ing of Ony. I would spam Judgement, Hammer of Wrath, and Execution Sentance.
-Once Avenging Wrath was up, I would focus back on the trash, with the occassional Judgement on Ony.
-Once phase 3 hits, its back to burning the boss. Keep an eye on your health though because every now and then I would be hit with something that would take me kind of low. At one point I had to use Lay on Hands, but still wasn't anything I couldn't handle.
Just solo'ed 10 man version as a
. (asssasination spec)
My ilvl is 455 and I am pvp geared...
I used gylph of shiv, recuperate and evasion. I used leeching poison as a talent in order to shiv and regain 15 k hp per 4 sec. I also used Shuriken Toss to dps him when he flies.
Here is what I did;
-Started with huge burst(popped every cooldown such as shadowblades and my pvp trinkets). Used evansion also.
- When he flied, I started go hit add's for combo points and use it for my recuperate. I also shiv'ed every mob I saw to make my hp full.
-Meanwhile, I used Shuriken Toss( it also applies deadly poison to drake!) when add's are dead and I shadowstep ruptured whenever I can. So he had 2 dots on him.
-When he landed, I burst dps'ed him again and killed him with 50 k hp left. Was very close but I could do better health managemant imo.
My gear is so #$%^ and you can do it. Thumbs up so others can see !
Soloed 10 man with lvl 90 BM hunter and Arcturis as tenacity. Started out using Chromaggus as ferocity and died twice from those blasted whelps.
I popped Dire Beast, then Readiness, Dire Beast again then I used Stampede for the start. These gave me a few pets dps'ing at once. I got her to around 50% health before she flew up.
While she was in the air i kept an eye put for those whelps and the dragonkin. I dpsed the whelps while my pet was on Onyxia, after the dragonkin came in I feigned death. When the whole mob was on my pet I concentrated on the dragonkin. I did this for each wave; feign death, pick off dragonkin,multishot and glaive toss whelps surrounding my pet. I was taking pot shots at Onyxia as well. It took awhile compared to what others posted. My gear is not the greatest.
From time to time i would aggro the whole mass of whelps; then i feigned death or used Lynx Rush and my pets stomp to get them off me and on my pet.
After she landed again it went smoother, there were some touch and go moments there though.
I found myself spamming Mend pet and using Exhileration. Keeping Arcturis alive was a significant part of this fight for me, and the rest was chipping away at Onyxia's hp.

Does anyone know if a lvl 87 demo warlock could solo this with a 422 ilvl?
Just solo'd her 25m ilvl 498 demo warlock, its long but quite simple.
The usual, avoid fire, avoid front and back of her
Start out with wrathguard for dps use terrorguard at start
save wrathstorm, meta, immo aura drain life, and damage CD for adds, this will keep your health topped up because of the length you will need to lifetap and heal demon (be sure to hit it every time its up)
when airborn, stack the adds under onyxia, this ensures your immo aura wrathstorm and drain life are hitting her as well
use HS when you lifetap for the first time while adds are down, be sure to hit it every time it is off CD from here out
blow your dps CD in unison every time
eventually wrathguard will die even with heal demon, switch to voidlord since she's hitting a lot harder at this point, once void is down, you should have another terrorguard up, pop dps CD again and go meta for final burn
Easily soloed as 85 boomkin in the lovely 433ilvl mop gear. Got her down on first attempt, never got below 1/2 health, kept up barkskin and cenarion ward, couple rejuves and healing touch. aoe the whelps while under ony, blast the guards, danced around her on fire breath, not that it did much damage, and just kept up standard rotation for damage.
Wasn't sure what to expect so took just over 5 minutes, next time I'll go for the More Dots achieve for under 5 mins. :) DPS was low for me, about 24k average for the full fight on account of going 'hmm ok what now? o ok'. Should be piece of cake for 90s.
i can't solo that dude on my lv 90 beast master night elf hunter. He keeps beating the pants off of me. ^-^;
This is very do-able as a Rogue at level 90.
1. Use Leeching Posion to help heal a little bit.
2. Pop your cooldowns (Trinkets, Shadow Blades and Vendetta) at the beginning of the fight.
3. Once she calls the little drakelings, use your FOK and Crimson Tempest to get them down quickly.
4. Make sure you've got Rupture and your Deadly Poison on her as she takes off into the air, she'll come down just as your finishing off the drakelings.
5. You should be able to finish her off when she lands.
Did this with 505-ish Ilevel but I'm pretty sure it can be done a lot lower!
One of the rarest drops from Onyxia is "Onyxian Drake" Mount. Drop rate is very low, probadly around 1-3%.

One man-able by a 90 1H fury warrior - ilvl 482
Bloodthirst and Impending Victory are great for the heal
Phase 2 didn't take long with Dragon Roar, with Heroic Throw. If nothing else i used thunder clap to get some more damage in there, not much but made her come down a little faster.
No mount sadly.
Very very easily doable solo as a disc priest in 519 gear. My health only dropped by at most 5% throughout the entire fight and I was just able to basically smite her down, aoed down the whelps when they came, more smiting and she was down. Easy peasy!
For warriors who agonize at the idea of fighting her when she's airborne, do not fear! for it's still very possible to solo her! I did this as a 526 fury warrior, so a good gear is recommended. Warriors can solo Onyxia even in 25 man mode.
as a fury or arms warrior is a must have, if you want to survive, this is also likely true for protection warriors. our other healing options is ok, but due to the cooldown, second wind is our best option.
As explained earlier, if you're not raider geared, this fight can prove very difficult as an arms for fury warrior. If Onyxia is killing you faster than you can heal with second wind, then try protection warrior specialization. The fight will certainly be agonizingly slow, but at least it's still possible.
While a shield isn't required It's a wonderful thing to have in order to use shield wall, and by the time patch 5.4 arrives you will no longer need a shield in order to use
. As a protection warrior a shield is a must of course, but it's mostly optional as a fury or arms warrior.
is a powerful aoe tool and is one of our key burst that allows us to quickly dps adds and onyxia at the same time. It's also a key burst for the second phase of the battle.
Remember, this is all assuming your warrior is at level 90.
Phase one couldn't be more simple. first of all, set Onyxia to focus, then attack and quickly burn down Onyxia as fast as you can. You're not on a time limit, but if you want the achievement
, you'll need to take her down in less than 5 minutes. Same is true for 25 player mode.
There are a nest of eggs on each side of the room, Onyxia will occasionly use
to send you flying backwards a few feet. So be sure to position yourself at a location where she doesn't knock you into one of her nest.
If for some reason your second wind isn't generating enough health for you to survive, jump into
to help lower the damage and hopefully buy you enough time for second wind to catch up. If that isn't enough then apply Shield wall or
to help further lower Onyxia's damage output (Die by the sword isn't available to protection warriors).
This is without a doubt a warrior's most dreaded part of the fight. At 65% health Onyxia will get tired of ground combat and take to the air. A bunch of little whelpings and the occasional big dragonkin will swarm you from all directions.
You can't attack onyxia directly with your melee attacks, BUT you can still hit her with area of effect attacks! Keep tracking her on your radar (thanks to your set focus you can just stand under tracker without actually looking for onyxia in the air.) And use all your aoe to your advantage. Bladestorm,
while you stand under onxyia and you will be sure to hit her as well as any other enemy in the area.
Her Fire Breath is nothing to get excited or worried about, but if you want
, you will avoid it. the charge up time for this attack is long, and she always charges forward with this attack, so simply move to one of the sides.
If you run low on rage, use one of your shouts, auto attack and
at adds to build rage (charge and auto attacks won't work on Onyxia)
At 40% health Onyxia will get frustrated and land once again to engage you in melee combat. If there are still adds around, work them out quickly or the damage can potentially get out of hand.
Onyxia will no longer knock you around, but now she will use
to fear you for 3 seconds so save your
for that moment to break and make yourself immune to fear. Stay near the center of the battle ground to avoid running into either nest.
Otherwise engage as you normally would against her as you did in phase 1 and she will go down very quickly.

Managed to solo this instance to day as a 500 iLvL Assassination Rogue. Mind you it wasn't that difficult it just took forever, since my poisons and rupture didn't do enough damage to her for her to land. Also, I hadn't picked up Shuriken toss.... go figure.
At first I just tried to use Throw to damage her but the 1k damage daggers did next to nothing, but I did notice that, whilst you can't hit her with melee, you CAN hit her with Fan of Knives.
So to sum up:
The quickest way of killing her is to:
Phase 1: Stab her as you please.
Phase 2: Kite the whelps underneath her and kill them there with Fan of Knives, and Crimson Tempest (an occasional Recuperate if you take too much damage, such as eating a whole deep breath), and then spam Shuriken Toss whenever there aren't any whelps.
Phase 3: Stab her as you please.
Just soloed as a WW Monk ilvl 463
Used Crackling Jade Lightning while she was flying...
Other than that... not so difficult
Solo'ed her as 90 Combat Rogue (475 ilevel, no set bonuses). Took Shuriken Toss before the fight.
Ambushed and did my normal rotation. Refreshed Rupture right before she went airborn.
Hit her with as many Shuriken Tosses as possible until the drakes got to me. Killed them with FoKs and CT, then hit Ony with more Shuriken Tosses until she came down. Try to stay on the far side of the cave away from the whelp caves as much as possible, in case she fears you.
If one of the big dragonkin adds is up when she hits the ground, which was the case for me each time she came out of air phase, kill it first. They die in one or two hits but if left alive do enough damage to be dangerous. Then just do your normal rotation, moving to stay out of her breath as much as possible, until she dies. I essentially just ran around in circles under her belly while stabbing until it was over.
Game, set, match.
A easy tip to kill onyxia better and faster
1. right click on boss and set focus to see fire balls and deep breath
2.make sure u have shaman on 2 groups ( in 10man ) or 5 groups ( in 25man ) because of fear in phase 3
3. get range dps as u can because when she goes in phase 2 she gets more dmg! have fun and enjoy the ride and best luch for get the mount :)
Is it just me or did they change the rugged leather/rugged hide drop rate? I'm getting at least 2/4 of the trash mobs dropping hide........... And I'm really mad now because all 4 gave hide >.>
Solo'd with my hunter at 100, would've took 5 seconds, but she has to go into phase 2 first, just kills the whelps and she'll come back down with 1hp remaining.
Still did'nt drop the reins yet :(
Also easily soloed with my lvl 100 hunter. I turn off my pet so that it doesn't kill the boss before I can. Earned 3 achievements:

. Nice loot but no reins yet.
Onyxia 10man is easily soloable at level 100, probably much lower too.
I had no difficulty even with Res Sickness :)
Last Thursday I came here and I was like OK charging now and suddenly I started hearing "More Dots, More Dots, More Dots" and I didn't knew where it came from, after that I googled it and only got to that video, but the thing was that I was hearing it ingame, does anybody have experienced that?
Edit: I just found out it was DBM... Joke's on me right?
