Whiptail can also be found in certain areas of Uldum
Whiptail is found only along the waterline of rivers and riverbeds in Uldum. This limits its spawn points to the natural banks of the river dominating the zone (i.e., not the stone channels near the Obelisk of the Moon) and the dried stream in the Cradle of the Ancients subzone. Generally, if you see crocolisks you'll find whiptail.
I'm farming with the Wowhead Looter running, so the map up there ought to update with locations soonish.
Requires Herbalism 500 =)
Whiptail can not only be found along the riverbanks of the all the waterways in Uldum, but also within the marshland populated by Crocolisks in the mid-Western portion of Tol Barad. The respawn timer there is between 15 and 30 minutes and I've found it to be a good farming spot while doing my Tol Barad dailies.
Contrary to what you may think, Whiptail does not seem to spawn in Cradle of the Ancients after it phases into lushness. It does spawn in the dried up river bed, but not when it phases into an actual stream.
The Cradle of the Ancients area, while it has only 4 nodes, is a very good place to check often. Since lots of ppl are phased out, this place is almost solo-farmed.
The area they spawn at in Tol Barad is terrific for farming. Most of the crocs are not within aggro distance, and they despawn fifteen minutes before the PvP battle starts, so free-for-all farming for those fifteen minutes. The whiptails also respawn very quickly.
If you want to avoid the phasing in Cradle of the Ancients, stop questing at "Put the Baby in the Cradle" quest. It's right at the end of the Harrison Jones chain, after Brann jumps out the coffer.
If you continue you will be sent to return the coffer to the Cradle of the Ancients ( "Three if by Air") and finally the last quest: "The Coffer of Promise" which changes the scenery and you will no longer see whiptail in that area. Hope that helps.
Downrate my comment if this experience was unique to myself, but this morning Whiptail began to spawn in multiple locations they did not seem to before in Uldum. Since I haven't done any additional quests, phasing does not seem to be the issue. This leads me to believe they have buffed the number of Whiptail in Uldum, or solved previous phasing issues. Again, take my subjective experience with a grain of salt, but the difference was staggering, especially in the area west of Khartut's Tomb and the area surrounding the Lost City of the Tol'Vir. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
So far from my experience when I'm alone (low pop server!) I have found the following ammount of herbs:
Vir'naal Oasis (1) north lake
Vir'naal Oasis north river (4) North of Ramkahen
Vir'naal Oasis west river (4) Ramkahen - Obelisk of the Moon
Vir'naal Dam (1) Dam - Mar'at, West side
Vir'naal Dam - Vir'naal River (4) South of dam
Vir'naal River delta(8?) around Lost city.
Cradel of the Ancients (4) Dry-up oasis.
The data is in it's early stage and can be different from what I have posted, and it's my mind zones I used.
Edit :video lost
Tol Barad is great place for farming ;) just keep out there are quite a lot of crocodiles
I have found that the area south of the dam seems to be the best in terms of Whiptail to other players. Farmed well over 100 Whiptail in less than half an hour, (Mind this was with no competition.) The route i ran began with a loop at the top of the dam, then zig-zag along the river's edges until you reach Lost City. Then do a loop around the city making sure to pass all of the islands within the delta, then loop back on up to the dam and head on back down.
Warcrafts version of the real life cattail plant which, coincidentally, are also found along river banks and in wetlands.
edit for WoD: Stems stop at 500 skill.
I would like to know, if I do all quests in Uldum, where I'm going to have troubles with phasing while farming whiptail?
Very easy to farm due to having an extremely easy farming path in Uldum. Also, it tends to sell fairly well on the auction house if anyone's ever interested in obtaining it for the purpose of resale.
As for patch 6.2.0
You can level herbalism 1-525 picking this.
Stems stop at 500
Turns yellow at 525, green at 530.
After you hit 525 I recommend hitting draenor herbs and level your way there to 700.
As of 8.2.5
Cataclysm Herbalism Orange all the way to 75! Easy way to burn a hour and max the profession. Re-spawns very quickly, and is needed heavily by alchemists who want to make
