Genie, I'm gonna miss you.
A wonderful tribute to an amazing person. I just hope he has a lot of good Mrs. Doubtfire and Aladdin quotes. :3
Aw, this is perfect!
This is absolutely amazing.
And there start the feels.
I'm going to visit him daily.
He has a beard just like him and since he's a genie, he could transform into his other beings, someone on the forums mentioned a Troll named Jumanji.
also that was fast
I'll miss you ...
This tribute is wonderful, I hope he'll have very funny missions. I saw 3 links to that npc, will he be in different places? And those sounds will be the testing ground for what will be the voice?
Bangarang Batty </3 :'( :')
He should be Elite!
I'm going to cry :') It's happening!
O Captain! My Captain!
someone pls post screenshot!
I'm excited and hopeful, thank you blizzard.
My getting WoD has been confirmed
One Is Glad To Be Of Service
Robin <The Entertainer> is now on World of Warcraft's Hall of Fame! We're gonna miss you, genie!
We ain't never had a friend like him. :')
Genie, you're free.
So happy that bizz did this.. <3 Genie!
Is it wrong that i want it to be a part of my Garrison :D
A genie is the perfect vehicle for Robin William's tribute. His talent was magical. He could transport audiences to realms of wondrous amusement at the wink of an eye. He wielded the power of laughter like a champion, and could wrap it's warmth around an audience the way a skilled magician weaving a spell. Then in a heartbeat, he could touch the depths of a person's soul with a profound insight of human nature. We will not see his like in this world again for a long, long time.
"You ain't never had a friend like me"
All of my feels. This is such an great thing to have happened. I have never had the death of a famous person affect me quite so much. Robin was, I think, family to all of us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Blizzard!
I'm so happy about this. He truly was an awesome human.
You will have bad times, but they will always wake you up to the stuff you weren't paying attention to.
This made me cry... such a amazing, wonderful person.
And to see him in WoW, Aaah, dream come true.
Thanks to all the players that petitioned it and to Blizzard for "listening". Robin Williams deserves the tribute! /respect /bow
Thank you blizzard, that is all...
"You're free now Genie"
would love to have this in the garrison. please oh please lol
Does anyone else REALLY hope there's a quest chain to free him?
Just take my feels please, i dont need them!
Awesome Blizzard, love your work!
Good morning, Worlds End Tavern! Hey, this is not a test. This is rock and roll. Time to rock it from Draenor to Azeroth!
Or if you click on him and he replies with;
"You are in more dire need of a blowjob than any white man in history", that would be epic ;-)
Blizzard went above and beyond on this one. Not only did they put an in-game tribute to him, but he has three NPCs devoted to him and his works over the years. The world may have lost a great comedian, but now he has been immortalized (assuming he hasn't been already.)
This tribute fits perfectly, thank you Blizzard, and thank you Robin Williams, I'll see you in-game :)
I really appreciate and applaud Blizzard for making this character.
Since Paris Hilton somehow made her way into the game, Robin Williams DEFINITELY needs to be recognized, too.
Such a great tribute. Good job to Blizzard for putting this in.
I love the tribute. It's perfect.
...Now, if he happened to give you a quest line that rewarded a Jumanji board for your Toy chest, that would be pretty fun too! :) But this is of course more than enough for this wonderful man.
I'll miss you, Robin. :( Nobody ever made me laugh like you could. We'll all carry you in our hearts and memories for the rest of our lives and generations to come.
has the same model, for those curious.
As someone who spends most of his time highly critical of Blizzard, I can safely say this is a good move on their part. I don't think there is hardly a person alive who hasn't seen at least ONE of RW's movies.
Your servant calls for aid
I love this idea! Though I hope they personalize him a bit more to look either like Robin or Genie.
Let's hope it is legitimate.. It would definitely be a cool addition...
Possibly a short quest to free him from his Genie bottle?
Oh my heart! I never thought the death of a celebrity would make me feel this empty.
Robin, you will be missed. There isn't another comedian out there like you in the world. You were one in a million. I cannot even express how much I loved Bicentennial Man, on top of all of his other films. That one had a very special place in my heart however.
In the words of the "Great Andrew Martin" his character from Bicentennial Man, "One is glad to be of service."
If you are one of those people who might whine and complain about Blizzard putting this NPC in the game, please be aware that there are thousands upon thousands of people who do care very much about Robin Williams, who tragically took his life.
Even if you don't care for Robin Williams personally, perhaps you can think of this NPC as a poignant reminder of the tragic effects that depression can have on others, and that no one among us, no matter how talented, how famous or how much money they may have is immune from suffering from this terrible mental illness. Perhaps you can see this NPC as a Beacon of Hope for others to know that they are not alone in their suffering.
I leave this number 1-800-273-TALK (8255) for the
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
for anyone who comes across this page and either is personally effected with depression or knows someone who is.
Genie, you're free.
Nothing more than a genie to incarnate a wonderful person like Robin.
This is how Christopher Reeve spoked about him: "Robin is a person who gives to people 24 hours a day. The gift of joy, the gift of laughter. Just to be in a room with Robin Williams is a privilege. He’s a gift to the world."
Definitely a gift to the world (of Warcraft aswell)
If this is a quest item that is in a chest somewhere... or a drop... and it summons the genie for quests...to free the genie... I'll never... ever... finish the quest.
Added in commemoration of the actor Robin Williams, following his tragic death on August 11th, 2014.
Be free Genie.
Blizzard was like "POOF! What do you need?"
Welcome back, Old friend. <3
Robin <The Entertainer>
we miss you.
This is nice gesture from blizz thanks
I want his statue in my garison :(
Easter Egg function to this thing could be that when rubbing this bottle a NPC called Christina pops up and sings Iam a genie in a bottle from time to time.
In the end none of us have very long on this earth. Life is fleeting. And if you're ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer skies, when the stars are strung across the velvety night, and a shooting star streaks through the blackness turning night into day. Make a wish. Think of me. Make your life spectacular. I know I did.
- Jack, Buena Vista Pictures, 1996
I was shocked and sad when I´ve heard the news about Robin´s death... Thinking what lead this great person to end his life the way he did and wishing thoroughly he didn´t suffer too much as he decided for this act ...
And in any case, I wish he is at ease now, happy and that he found heaven the way he once described - concert playing at the entrance gate, laughter hearing throughout the place and god sharing jokes about "two Jews walk into a bar..." :)
May you R.I.P., Robin <3
Thank you Blizzard for the tribute to this great man!
Not killing any buzzes, but the model is not new. Not that it was expected that it should be, but it's no different from Asaad,
A tribute to Robin Williams is monumental in any regard, cheers.
The Robin NPC should be giving out real quotes that he said once, like this one:
We've had cloning in the South for years. It's called cousins. - Robin Williams
now You're hearth is free! got courage to follow it!
Thank you Blizz. Hopefully he has a quest or something tied to him so as players won't "overlook" or pass him by.... ( speaking of those who don't keep up with news on wow or in later years to come ).
You will be missed Robin.
Your humor, carefree attitude, and genuine capacity to bring laughter in every situation, will always be remembered and treasured by those who saw your work.
Your talent as an actor will not be forgotten, and your actions as a man wont either.
"But oh, to be free. Not to have to go 'Poof! What do you need, Poof! What do you need, Poof! What do you need?' To be my own master. Such a thing would be greater than all the magic and all the treasures in all the world."
RIP Robin Williams <3
They really need to implement a bat with multiple personalities!
"Price check on prune juice, Bob!"
I think the quotes when he will be clicked on should be sound clips from his voice in Aladdin.
I'm rather older than most WoW players so I remember dismissing Robin Williams many years ago as simply ripping off the great Jonathan Winters who was doing voice characters and stream-of-consciousness riffs when Robin was still in diapers. I changed my mind when Robin acknowledged his debt to Winters by having him play Mork and Mindy's baby and also when he won me over by his blazing brilliance in comedy. Personally my favorite Robin Williams movie is The Fisher King with Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting running neck and neck for second but this genie is a great tribute and an NPC I think I may visit now and again when I'm feeling low and need the company of a gentle and funny friend. Vale, Robin! And much love.
So, has he actually been seen in the beta yet? If so, where? Or have they not actually added him in as of yet?
Adding tributes to games, I just find that super sweet of Blizzard to honor a guy like him. We all love you Robin ^-^
It would be funny if "Robin" yelled "GOOD MORNING SHATTRATH" at daily reset.
this is going to sound petty but I really hope they don't just give this NPC generic in-game voices and ask for permission to use his real voice from Aladdin :/
We'll all miss you Robin.
The world has lost a genius comedian. We honor your memory.
And, after all, Mork came from the planet Ork...
I felt very bad, near ill, when I heard about mr. Williams' death. He is my inspiration to become a teacher, and I really try to be at least as awesome to my students as Mr. Keating was in Welton (I watched this movie at 7 or 8, and never forgot). So you can guess how I become sick when I heard about his death 30min before entering in my classroom. I simply couldn't teach nothing that day. I stepped in the desk, as I often do, and improvised a poem in Whitman's "O Captain, my Captain!" rhythm (native language is Portuguese, so I guess my students couldn't understand English so well to appreciate the original work). They asked me, "Why the pain, Bard?" (I mix a lot of poetry in my classes, so I felt natural when they gave me this nickname), and I remember all I could say was, "Dead I am inside, as dead is my greatest teacher". I sit down in the desk and no more words flowed out my lips that day. Sorry for being sentimental, I need to put these words out my throat, dry as it was in the day I become silent in midst of a classroom.
Although I think World's End Tavern could be the logical spot to this tribute (plus a way to put more people in Shattrath), I hope Blizzard makes Robin <The Entertainer> comes to Darkmoon Faire for allowing low levels to see him too.
Found him in the beta of WoD in an island: Talador, The south Sea coord 12.9, 79.7.
It is amazing how many lives he touched.
It is sad that no one was able to help him in the end.
He is a perfect reminder of how much you can change a persons day or, life for that matter with just an act of kindness.
A smile, a kind word.... help beating the crap out of a monster in wow...
I hope he has found the peace he craved.
"INFINITE COSMIC POWER! Itty bitty living space."
The lamp is at the big island offshore Talador - Nagrand. He appears for such a short time, I wish it was a wee bit longer.
Wouldn't be great if you could interact with Robin, and upon first wish he would change temporary your outfit into... ekhm... a Prince? And after this if you would be dying in raid/pvp/dungeon, he would appear out of nowhere and heal you? Just this once? :)
There's even going to be a broken egg with a tribute to Mork in it. :)
is located in
at 74.9, 69.8 on the southern-most island.
Upon clicking the lamp,
comes out and says:
PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS! Itty bitty living space.
This is a reference to Aladdin, and a tribute to Robin Williams, who played the voice of Genie in said movie. Rest in peace, friend. You shall be missed.
After searching for him off the coast of Nagrand for quite some time, I was ready to give up and assume that this was something that was only do-able by folks doing WoD beta for now.
So imagine my surprise when I looked here and discovered I'd gotten a silver achievement for doing it.
I swear I never saw him.
Gone, but NEVER forgotten!
In the full release, he's at 74.9, 96.8 in Nagrand.
When I heard that Blizz was doing this I couldn't have been happier. Like many others, I have never had the death of a celebrity leave me so empty feeling. It's like I lost my best friend. He made us laugh, he made us cry, he was an amazing man. Not to mention what he did for the military. So sad that someone who could fill people with so much joy suffered so much with his own demons, and no one knew it enough to realize he needed help.
He will be missed by millions, but we will continue to have him with us. Rest in peace my friend and as so many others have already said......"You're free now Genie"
I hadn't seen this posted anywhere else on these comments thread;
So near where you find the cracked egg on the bigger island south of Nagrand (Draenor) there will be to the south west of it spears & a genie lamp known as the Ever-Burning Lamp. He will then appear stating "PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS!" then he will shrink in size then to say "Itty bitty living space." before getting smaller and smaller as he gets sucked back into the Lamp until you can click it again.
Just made a visit today, he's there
This is great! R.I.P. Robin Williams your talents have made me smile since I was young and still to this day. It's a terrible thing that he chose to end his life after so many years of awesomeness.
On another note: The surrounding area is a fantastic place to fish Sea Scorpions for First Aid potions. There are a lot of schools there. Water walk is helpful, but not exactly necessary. Stay healthy my friends!
Well I guess Robin must have played Horde. It looks like the only way to get to his Island is to try and run through Horde controlled land. Oh well - at least we have the screen shots!
I know this is kind of a weird request, since he already has a tribute, but I would love if they made a Bicentennial Man robot NPC (that actually looked somewhat like his robot form) in one of the major Engineering areas, such as the Gnome embassy in Ironforge or Goblintown in Org. That was also a beloved character he played besides the genie, as evidenced by all these comments referring to it. I loved the genie when I was a kid and that tribute is amazing, but his Bicentennial Man role made me cry every time I watched it, even before he passed on. It was so poignant and they couldn't have cast a better person for that endearing and powerful story.
Busted open cage and bones near the Murloc riding an Elekk. Possible Jumanji or Night at the Museum reference? Added a screenshot.
I love how around the back of the tree there are a couple of 'Toys'. Gotta be one of the great movies!
Lol this NPC is a waste of Blizz's server space
Just like your comment Is a waste of wowheads server space.
This might already be here, but I didn't see it in screenshots. I got up to the higher platform (above the one with the egg & lamp). There is a little busted cage & a toy elekk with a murloc riding it. I submitted screenshots. Not sure what they reference, but I figured it must tie into Robin somehow.
He'll never be able to play in Draenor with us.
I gotta wonder what the elekk plushes around the island are for. Namely, there's a stitched murloc plush on an elekk plush on the rise above where Robin is. Next to it is what appears to be a small cage, a ball, and a leash on a stick buried in the ground. Any ideas as to what that part is about?
It's great that they've put in a tribute to Robin Williams. His passing was a great loss to the world. However, I personally feel as though this tribute is a bit lackluster. He's hidden away, so there is almost no chance of someone finding him (unless they know about him and look up where he is). And even when you do get there, the lamp doesn't seem clickable, and even then he does only 2 lines before disappearing.
I hope that they build upon this, but have a feeling that they wont...
Its been a few months (Still haven't been able to see the NPC) but I'm still crying over the loss. Its the worst feeling knowing someone so great who made me laugh for years since I was a little girl to nearly the age of 24...its so surreal what happened. I know I will always remember the greatness that is a genius of all faces from a woman to a genie to a robot (both live and a cartoon). I hope to see that NPC and see more of Robin Williams through WoW. He is the one thing I will always remember through my playing.
Maybe even an Aladdin like quest line. :) Ya know where we free the genie! :3
After exploring the island a little bit, I found another Easter egg. On a cliff above where Mork's spaceship lays, is a tiny elephant with a murloc his back. I decided to explore, so I went back to the main land and used a glider to get on top. I discovered far behind the elephant is a cage and a chain and a tiny ball, along with some bones. I'm thinking it's a reference to Jumangi. And it made me delighted.
I remember all the outcry when the news broke of his passing, and the sadness I felt in such a wonderful and funny guyending his own life..... And soon afterward WoW players were flooding Blizzard's forums about paying tribute to Robin Williams, since a good number of us fans knew he was not just a video gamer, but also a fan of Warcraft III.
Soon Blizzard announced that he was ALSO a WoW player, and that they would indeed pay tribute to him with this NPC.
This is a GOOD EXAMPLE of why not allowing flying mounts to be used in Draenor is a BAD idea! All this expansion I've been wondering where and when this NPC would be put into WoW, and I literally just tonight did a google search to find out. Low and behold, I found this page here on wowhead.
If flying mounts had been allowed in Draenor from launch, I would have found this NPC within the first week on my own.
Anyway as Dezonus said, it's an okay tribute, if players can even find it without having to google search for it >.>
I also had trouble realizing I needed to click on the lamp on the ground, so another further reading to figure out how the tribute works.
He appears larger than life out of some kind of magic and disappears far sooner than we would wish
Oh captain, my captain. Robin Williams is passed. Long live the Fisher King. We will remember you, sir.
R.I.P, robin. You were an awesome person and actor. R.I.P
So, I just found this today while exploring, it took me a min to put the pieces together of the genie named 'Robin' in a lamp which is from Aladdin and the cracked egg which is from Mork and Mindy, but I'm curious, what are the other items? There's some random weapons, a rolled bundle of sticks, a horn, some bowls, and then around the back of the tree is a toy tonk and Elekk plushie.
This NPC should be able to do a drive by fruiting!
Good Morning Vietnam Best Scenes
Robin Williams Oscars Tribute 2015
Aladdin: So, three wishes. Hm, I want them to be good. What would you wish for?
Genie: Me? No one's ever asked me that before. Well, in my case... Ah, forget it.
Genie: No, I can't tell you.
Aladdin: C'mon, tell me.
Genie: I'm free. I'm free. Quick. Quick. Wish for something outrageous. Say, "I, I want the Nile." Wish for the Nile. Try that!
Aladdin: Uh... I wish for the Nile.
Genie: No way! Oh, does that feel good!
My last wish is that you prosper in the nether realm...
RIP Captain Hook
Does anyone know why the lamp was removed?
"You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."
- Robin Williams
You may be gone but your spark lives on.
Has this character been taken out of the game? He and the Lamp appear to have disappeared.
The egg and other toys are still on the island, but there is no sign of the lamp anywhere.
Have Robin and his lamp been moved from the island? If so, would someone please post the new location? Thanks!
What happened to the lamp and genie? I have read the comments here and have been waiting for almost a half hour and there is still no lamp showing up. Any help, we would be appreciated. Thanks
Anyone know what is being referenced with the cage and the plush murloc on the plush elephant? I'll upload pics to the page for reference.
I'm so bummed. It took me all this time to finally get out here, and he is gone. I'm heartbroken.
I had heard there was a tribute put in and only recently had the nerve to go see it. It's been four years and I've only been able to watch one movie he was in (The Birdcage) since his passing without bursting into tears and having to turn it off. I did not know Mr. Williams, so I cannot mourn him as a friend or family member. I only knew him as a good person. I do mourn him because the world is a little less brighter since he has left us. I mourn him for our failings as a society to provide the help he needed. I mourn him for the joy he gave at the expense of himself. Small thanks to Dante Basco who I recently saw and remembered the tribute piece I did for Mr. Williams.
See you in Neverland, sir.
I came back to this comment section because I remembered people were asking about the toys. While some of them are definitely references to the movie "Toys", there is an achievement called "An Awfully Big Adventure" which involves battling with your Elekk Plushie (which looks out over everything to the ocean). The Achievement is a reference to what is probably the most famous line from Peter Pan, "To die will be an awfully big adventure". Peter says this when he saves Wendy in the book, prepared to die for her (as it is going into the unknown). Williams played Pan in the film "Hook", and his final line to Wendy is "To live will be an awfully big adventure" (as Peter has finally understood that living, growing, and maturing is the greatest unknown).
I hope this helps clear things up. I'll leave everyone with this final quote from Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie (author of Peter Pan):
“Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.”
So please never say goodbye. You will see him in Neverland. Bangarang!
I wish this had been a Toy or Pet Tribute that would donate to Suicide Prevention - with an option to 'set it free' and thereby change it into something else allowing for a repurchase. But this is great stuff! The whole thing needs an All Blacks (NZ National Rugby Team) jersey Number 7 in there - Robin Williams LOVED that game.
Discovered this NPC late last night decided to go there this morning because I was feeling a little down and wanted a reminder that we're all in this together and everyone gets depressed sometimes but the big thing to remember is we are not alone and it's best to talk to people and share your feelings it really can make a difference anyways knowing a man like this existed really lifts my spirit but was disappointed to see he wasn't there all I found was the egg that. Mork came to us in nanu nanu
