More explosions! We need more explosions!
He is an elite who hits quite hard, but the most damagerous is he calls running bombs into your group which explode and do quite a bit of damage.
The trick is, you need to have one person in your party dedicated to running around pushing the big red buttons on the pillars that launch the bombs. If the pillars is glowing with green electricity, it needs to be shut down by pushing the button. Thermaplugg will reactivate them by shooting lightning at them. Keep the pillars deactivated and Thermaplugg is easy.
Don't underestimate the buttons! If the guy who presses them does a bad job, (unless you have a high lvl helping you), your party will wipe - the bombs do a considerable amount of damage. As long as one person keeps running and pressing the buttons, it's fine - Thermaplugg himself is relatively easy to kill, considering that you've managed to do the rest of Gnomeregan. But the guy has to keep running and clicking.
Use a DPS person to do it, perhaps a mage as they can blink every now and then - each button is about 20 yards apart.
This battle is considerably much harder if you don't push the buttons. But luckily, its not very hard to push the buttons, just make sure the guy doing it isn't
A. killed by the gnome, or bombs.
B.Trying to get the group killed. (Seriously)
Aslo if you have a gnomish universal remote, you can use it on the bombs and make it blow up on the boss.
I have found it beneficial to perform this encounter by splitting the 6 bomb dispensers into two groups of three and designating 1 DPS person to each group. Having one person disable all of them usually leads to a few bombs getting dispensed when two get activiated at almost the same time, and those few bombs can be the difference between loot and a wipe.
Just have each of the two DPS people attack Thermaplugg and run for a bomb dispenser when one in their group gets activated.
Pretty Decent Pally Drops...
That shield is really good for AoE grinding w/ a prot specced pally :)
l soloed this on my 56 Warlock. Thermaplugg is kind of a bitch to take down but just DPS the crap out of him and you'll be fine. :D
just solo'd him with my 52 frost mage, EASY =D didnt even need elemental to help out lol
solo'd as a 44 rogue Killed boss blinded adds bandage kill adds win
P.S. Make sure you Cold blood ambush to start
I've managed to easily do it without touching a button, just kill the bombs before they expload easy if u get a mage to AoE so you do dmg to thermaplugg too.
You can no longer use the Gnomish Universal Remote on this Boss, it says "Immune", i don't know since what patch but i had in the past used this and started to muck-around as this large boss :P
28 level elite boss and 26 level adds (2.3 PTR) instead of 34 level elite boss on live 2.2.3
This guy really lives up to his name. He's a sicko. He sold out Gnomeregan to the Troggs, and look where the gnomes are now. And just so he could be High Tinker. As it turns out, his coup failed and he's now king of the Leper Gnomes.
me (28 hunter) and a 29 hunter soloed this boss, after we had wiped on the mobs before it and the others left. we both died too and we couldnt get the loot but we got the quest complete to get triprunner duganeers :)
if my pet wouldnt have lost aggro at boss 30% we propably would of killed the boss and stayed alive, but it was still a nice accomplishment imo ^^
this guys is now lvl 28 elite instead of 34 elite.
I guess it's since 2.3 hit and made it easier to lvl and lowered the gap between instances
I'm glad blizzard nerfed this instance, there was a pretty substantial gap in the time you should be running BFD until you could clear this instance. the lower level mobs should help make this instance go a lot faster as well, when I was in my 30's I remember this instance taking the better part fo 3 hours with a decent group.
The last boss drops:
which can be very valuable to holy priests who need as much extra DPS as possible for solo questing, and there are other good drops throughout.
Anyone have a quick way to farm this boss? Trying to get a ring but it's taking forever to stealth down here, die a few times on the way, etc...
If you obtain the Workshop key from
you can open a door which requires this key and when you finally open this gate it goes straight to Thermaplugg himself with ofcourse some mobs before you reach him! Good luck m8! And btw what I was wondering: you are stealthing to thermaplugg for the charged gear but you die a couple of times before you reach him... So you wanna solo him? Lol m8, if you already die because the mobs who are wandering around you have NO chance against Thermaplugg himself! Cheers!
this guy drops an amazing helm...
....which has stats that arent compared to to lvl 40's and up...and to add to it, it has an amazing effect!
K so i was close to him and all the sudden every1 but me and a rogue leaves so we wanted to try to 2man him and learned a few things (and yes we did 2man him) 27 balance druid healing 30 rogue what we learned is the group behind the door (2 elite and gnomes) do not connect to mek himself so you can stealth by them and fight mek also it seems that if you have trouble keeping up with the bombs while dpsing/healing you can put a dot on 1 and kite it till it dies so it doesnt blow any1 up! i remember him before the nerf and he was 1000x harder so ya this guys a push over now and theres some neat tricks for you guys who like to stealth run things
soloed him as my lvl 60 frost mage is it tru that killing the final boss counts as finising the instance
At lower levels (and more frequently these days than ever before), many players lack the patience to listen to boss fight explanations. Personally, I've never done this fight the correct way because players did not understand or did not have the patience to understand.
That said, this fight is NOT an instant wipe if people do not pay attention and push buttons. It can be tanked and spanked easily with proper healing. By proper healing I mean a healing specced player stacking intellect, spirit, and stamina, NOT "lol I'm a feral drood but we have no healer so I'll spam Healing Touch on the tank ftw". Regardless, though, a death can always happen if the healer cannot act fast enough to keep up with burst damage.
TL;DR You do not need to push the buttons, you will just be taking some damage and maybe lose a dps or two.
I know it sounds stupid, but is it possible to defeat this guy solo as a lvl 32 Intimidation hunter?
2 maned with 2 ret pails level 30 and 32. just keep one healer and seal of light on him and you'll do fine
after reading zoroz's post above, my belief strengthens even more...
i stronly believe group of 3-5 rogues about lvl 30 will be able to stealth through the boss and stun lock him down
one rogue for button smashing
one rogue, cheap shot as opener
rest, ambush as opener
5pt kidney shot one by one
vanish->cheap shot->kidney shot, again rotate
i seriously want to try this out :(
to alliance it might be a different story, but horde's only business in gnomer should be for the quest reward
better weapon can be obtained in RFK
Once the fight is done, don't let your guard down, my entire group almost wiped when we were looting because of 3 of the bomb spawns.
be the one to do the buttons if your a rouge, unless your higher then everyone else, just use dash and press then all as soon as the fight begins, then help with the kill, did easily with a group of 4 with a 26 27 36 and 32
There is really no reason to pay attention to the bombs during the fight, unless more than 3 spawn at the same time.
Any competent healer can heal through it.
It seems that this guy is so insane, he's awesome.
I mean seriously, he has his own pimp Hog, that everyone tried to copy apparently...
Soloed as a level 43 rogue.
my friend and i hav kill this boss and we are
and the bombs are easy just look out for them so you don't lose much healt
Just 2 manned all the instance ;) 2 pallys a tank and a healer(both holy speced) i just put on me dps gear and tanked it... no wipes
I was able to solo Thermaplugg as a level 39 rogue. I didn't worry about the buttons, just attacked the boss and used stuns and a health potion. I tried to get a group for gnomer from about lvl 30 to almost 40. So for you rogues who would like to do the gnomer quest for Trip Runner Dungarees but can't find a group, it's still possible.
The schematic for Pet Bombling will drop off this boss.
I solod this dying once as a lvl 45 protection warrior alliance human and i ignored the bombs and just destroyed him np
(46 lvl srry)
Apparently this guy's machines are the future and they'll destroy us all.
no offense to the gnomes (they are a crucial part of the alliance) but how did the gnomes have their city taken over by a level 28 elite?
Have your tank tank him in the middle of the room, while 1-2 of your dps, preferrably ranged, goes around and clicks the buttons that surround the room. Assign 1 of your button clickers to click specific ones and the same for the other. Healer should stay below and away from platform, just in case of AOE. Tank should keep aggro of any mobs that may pop out.
if u have goblin transponder u can go to machine in booty bay and get to gnomergan
apparently he aided the troggs in invading in the first place.
Quick question - if you are farming Gnomer with a high level non-engineer, will the schematics drop off Thermaplugg, or was something changed that non-engineers could not loot schematics?
I am trying to get schematics for a lowbie alt engineer, but none have dropped yet, and not sure if it is just the low drop rate.
Soloed as a lvl 38 BM Hunter with Ferocity pet, after having died twice just before the end. Told the pet to attack and then only healed it, to avoid getting aggro(He seems to lose aggro very easily). I did get aggroed a few times, but I just ran away(taking advantage of the opportunity to drop an Immolation trap in his path) and eventually the pet managed to get the guy's attention again. The bombs didn't do very much damage, although I think it would be a lot worse for someone that's level 30ish. Used one Superior Healing potion somewhere in the middle of the fight and only actually attacked him when he had 7-800 HP left. All-in-all, not very hard, provided you watch out a bit.
This boss was rely easy to solo as a lvl 33 combat rogue.
hmmm i really want the invisi cloak
im a 55 frost mage with perma WE
would i be able to solo?
Apparently killing him in gnomeregan was merely a... Did Kael'thas have a gnome cousin?
As of Recent news He is Fake!
The immense loss of life at Gnomeregan weighed heavy on Mekkatorque's shoulders, and in his fury he ordered the death of Thermaplugg. A band of heroes took up the mission and returned with a tale of victory, but after analyzing the claim, Mekkatorque realized that the mechanized overlord defeated in the depths of the city was likely nothing more than a cleverly engineered facsimile of Thermaplugg.
More info and the whole story HERE
I've been here quite some times on my Dwarf Paladin. I'm leveling by tanking instances.
In the 5 times I fought him, my group never used the buttons and just killed the bombs. Hand of Reckoning, Fire Blast, Earth Shock and more instants are able to one-shot them.
Speaking about Hand of Reckoning, Thermaplugg is immune to it. Righteous Defense is also useless. Being a pala you build a lot of threat of course due to Righteous Fury and the huge amount of Holy Damage but after the threat wipe it's really hard to regain threat. I think for Prot Warriors or Bear Druids this might be even harder, but I don't have any experience tanking Thermaplugg on such a character.
I need his left arm.....
He dies in a funny way, in fact, he could have saved himself if he didn't use un-balanced feet on his robot.
He pops out of his robot, then the robot tips over and flattens him. Poor guy.
EDIT: I just remembered he's a fake Thermaplugg, so maybe that was the plan?
This may be the hardest boss you see before you get to Outland. All five have to work as a team.
Make sure everyone knows the boss and how he effects the tank. The boss will do a knockback and a
. At this point, the tank is at range and the DPS needs to hold off because the boss is
immune to taunts
. Tell DPS if they do get agro,
run TO the tank
. I’ve wiped here because a DPS got hold of him and ran in circles where I couldn’t generate enough threat to get him back. With Cata, his health is increased so the possibility of the healer running out of mana is very real if the DPS take damage.
I think the tank should ignore the bomb adds (or use your otherwise worthless taunts on them). The ranged DPS can either burn them down if they have the power or use the switch tactic. This guy is really a cool fight.
you must be a new player, he was hard to fight before boosted gear, talent changes and heirloom geared players
This was taken from the story "
Gelbin Mekkatorque:Cut Short
." The quote contains something about the fate of Mekgineer Thermaplugg after he encounters
And finally, by the bisected torso of Sicco Thermaplugg's battle suit. With a hot gush of steam, the top half slid free and crashed to the ground just in front of Gelbin, rolling to a stop face up against his leg. The occupant swallowed once and blinked repeatedly.
Sicco was surprised.
Sicco was... confused.
"M-my legs are in that half," Sicco said, pointing at the still-standing portion of the suit.
High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque nodded and leaned down to pat him on his mechanized shoulder.
"Indeed they are, my friend. And with a razor-quick spring cut and steam cauterization from your ruptured engine, the bleeding is probably minimal. I'd wait around to see if the rats find you before your trogg minions do, but I've seen enough of the latter for one day."
"You're just... just going to leave me here?"
"You don't deserve a quick death, Sicco. You deserve a long, miserable existence in a dark hole, surrounded by filthy monsters."
Gelbin took a step back with a sad smile. He spread his arms to encompass all of fallen Gnomeregan around them. "In fact, you have created your very own prison right here. Better than any I could have built for you. You definitely outdid me on this one. Congratulations."
How long does it take to run to Plugga, kill him and run out?
Alliance: 2mins there, 2mins back.
Horde: 3mins there, 2mins back.
Don't fly there. You'll die once flying there from the lvl 90 guards at "New Tinkertown" ranged one-shotting you. You'll die once more from the lvl 90 guards posted directly outside the entrance to Gnomer in an impenetrable wall who will also ranged one-shot you.
Fly to Grom'grol where there is an actual portal directly to the instance (if it's not there you are on the Bwemba quest - abandon it and the portal will appear). The portal works as if you had just walked through the MAIN entrance to Gnomer.
If you chose the many deaths route to actually get there because you thought it would be quicker going through the WORKSHOP entrance, you are correct, it will take you 1 minute less to get to Plugga, but, and here's the kicker,
it doesn't matter which of the two entrances you leave from - either way you will be ported directly outside the GROM'GROL portal which will only port you back to the MAIN entrance.
It is still fastest to leave by the workshop door though.
So you chose to portal it there? Good. Now run straight to the edge of the precipice. There is a small chest to your left. Inside are unique parachutes, grab one and parachute to the floor and run in a straight line. On the map you can see you're in a giant circle, there is a tunnel and another circle further on called the Launch bay. Follow the tunnel to the launch bay.
There is once again a floor below to get to, and there are chutes in a chest close by but there are several ledges in front of you so it's just quicker to jump down to a ledge and down to the floor.
Look at the map, there is a small dark grey rectangle hallway in the south west, it is a hallway. Take it, turn left and follow it all the way along, at the end is a door, open it, the boss is inside, gib him, loot and look at your map again. You're in a big circle, you came down the big hallway but you can see that there is a smaller hallway halfway up the big one.
Make your way up the small hallway to "engineering" and once there you'll see you're on the bottom floor, there is a lift that is part of the ground and it is directly opposite you, just walk around the big obstacle in the middle of the room.
Once you're up on the next level look at your map and you'll see off to the right hand side the swirly instance exit icon. Just follow the tunnel to get there and when you zone out you'll be in Grom'Grol again right next to a mailbox and vendor.
Fly to Gnomer, head down the lift, keep going til you hit a fork. Left takes you to the main entrance of the instance, Right to the Workshop. You also no longer need a key for the workshop. At the end of the corridor is a large room with an upper platform and corridors heading off. You will be able to see on your minimap how the North corridor is thinner and longer and it is the one that turns into the workshop entrance.
Once you are inside just follow the corridor until you reach engineering, take the lift directly in front of you down to the ground floor, take the hallway directly in front of you, turn left and follow that large hallway, open the door, kill the boss, turn around the way you came.
PROTIP: In the Big hallway just before Plugga, there are plenty of Mechanized sentry's who will root you for 5secs. If they all aggro you may take a painful extra 2mins just to get to the boss. Try to avoid this by giving everything a wide berth or killing everything rather than try and drag the instance to the boss for quicker looting.
Sorry for all the "look at your map" but a picture paints a thousand words and even if you've been playing for years that place is damn confusing.
Hope this helps!
Happy day he dropped
Edit 2013-07-18: why is this down voted? its good information!
doesnt drop if boosted any1 can confirm? i only did 3 runs but its so long =P
After 56 kills, the
Lol, next kill (57th), the
Mekgineer Thermaplugg is now a legendary card in Hearthstone, in the Goblins and Gnomes Expansion.
Currently Workshop entrance is bugged brings you to the main entrance part of the dungeon.
Apparently he's now one of the Jailer's minions (and a battle pet) according to the flavor text
on the pet
that you get from the Torghast achievement
in the afterlife.
Battle Pet flavor text from Mord'al Eveningstar says he was known in life as "Thermaplugg". Neat!
