This elite mob has 3 main abilities:
The first is a charge + stun which he performs if you are > ~20-30 yards away from him. This does a huge amount of damage and stuns you. This will almost certainly one-shot you. He also uses this ability on targets that are not top on threat, which can be a big problem if people pass by to "help" you while you are soloing, or if you're in a group with people who don't know the mechanics.
The second, Blazing Blow, is a line-of-fire AoE with a 1.5 second cast. The mob will cast this
whenever it is in melee range of you
- as far as I can tell, he doesn't ever attack you with a normal attack. This does a large amount of damage, enough to 1-2 shot you.
He will also summon an Eternal Kiln, which has ~400k health and buffs him to do 50% more damage, 50% more haste, and move 50% faster.
General strategy: stay close, move out of fire lines. You can choose to kill the Eternal Kilns or ignore them: since the mob doesn't ever melee, 50% more damage and haste is not a huge problem. It does, however, decrease the cast time of Blazing Blow from 1.5s to 1.0s, and ensures that it will one-shot you, so be careful.
Good luck trying to kill one of these as melee, if you have even a tiny amount of latency then by the time you see the fire line it's already too late. I've been hit multiple times when visually i'm not even standing in the attack. I'm not gonna !@#$% about a challenging mob but I am gonna ^&*!@ when i watch
a warlock stand in place and dps one down while his pet A.I. handles all the movement and damage.
The most frustrating mobs I've ever encountered.
I have the last four "Ahead of the Curve" raid achievements, and yeah, these mobs are harder to tank than pretty much any of the bosses in any of those raids lol. Still a pretty fun challenge, though.
If you pull this guy from long range... Wait, let me rephrase that. Do NOT pull him from long range, unless you're ready to remove a stun in 1 second. He will charge you, stun you and then use his AoE. That combination will most likely kill you.
A well geared ranged player with pet tank should find the Eternal Kilnmaster a fairly simple encounter when proper mechanics are utilized - much less volatile and more predictable than
To begin fight, send in pet and make sure it gets agro. Then allow your pet to pull the Kilnmaster back and away from any other mob that might interfere. Once all is safe, allow your pet to tank while you dps, always making sure to interrupt “summon eternal kiln” as you are able.
If the Eternal Kiln does appear targeting it and using a powerful “multi-shot,” along with AoE, takes it out quickly while you keep focus on the boss (Locks will find Havoc with CB perfect for this).
Keep your distance, stay out of AoE – rinse, repeat, heal pet if necessary. Go get your loot!
These are a hell of a lot of fun to fight as melee. Execute it right, and you'll take only a tiny bit of damage from their occasional melee swing. It'll be frustrating for the first several kills as you learn their timing, but you'll be hella ready for any fire your weekly raid throws at you.
For even more fun, pick up a tank spec and fight two or three at a time!
The most annoying mob ingame if you are fighting it as melee. If you are facing in front he spams just one spell Blazing Blow and i can quarantee you can´t avoid it all the time. Blizz has used all their imaginations(or w/e it´s spelled)when making this thing abilities. Get group to farm them.
Edit. Maybe tanks have easier time.
The new gold sink of MoP :D
just run in a circle around them all the time, this fight is just like
Ok, after getting mangled by this bastard for over an hour, 530ish ret pally, I finally figured something out. Maybe this is just common sense to those that have played mele dps for awhile, maybe I'm just a noob. But it seems that it is much easier to dodge his attacks if I zoomed in really close. Can't tell if this somehow changed the timing or what, but it worked.
Link to his weapon:
a good strategy I found as melee was to simply get them into an open area with a few foot radius around them then start running around them in a circle while hitting them there blazing blow will never hit you unless you use some kind of speed boost and run back into the cone, note that using this strategy against flintlord Gairan can be tricky as he can auto attack and daze you.
This mob is SUPER EASY, but you're going to be dizzy as hell when you're done. I don't know about ranged, but if you are melee you can easily be one-two shot by this mob. I decided to try something and it paid off, in that I took almost no damage the entire fight and survived it.
You just keep moving around the guy in a circle and use instant attacks. For instance holding Q and D at the same time makes you move around the mob in a continuous circle. Since you never stop the Blazing Blow never gets you. There's a small chance it can still, so keep a potion or self-heal ready to go, etc. Took forever, and i'm dizzy as f&$#, but that sucker is dead!
The Eternal Kilns they summon uses murloc combat sounds. wat
The trick to running past these mobs is to stick just outside melee range until they reset. Running at full speed gets you charged and killed.
Others have described the basics:
Don't stand still. Always move around him.
From range, he will charge and stun you, then follow up with a Blazing Blow, probably two-shotting you.
I've been farming these as a 540 disc priest. I have some extra notes.
First, get the Fortitude of Niuzao buff from the wayshrines. It'll save your life. Visions of Insanity and Power Word: Fortitude are also good.
The pull: These guys spawn among similarly dangerous friends - you don't want to be circle-fighting him in the middle of a pack. You tend to get tunnel vision. If you have a decent amount of room, yes, simply walk up and pull away gradually. But if there's a narrow corridor of safe approach, you may just want to get him the hell out of there. For one thing, it's difficult to back up in a straight line when you have to keep dodging.
With proper stamina buffs and defensive cooldowns, pulling him from max range is effective. He WILL stun, charge, and wind up a Blazing Blow. However,
the stun comes before the charge, and the charge takes time
. I'm consistently able to step forward and to the side as the stun wears off, avoiding the Blow. Forcing him to run that full 40 yards gives you the time you need. At this point he's already a safe distance away from his buddies, so just start circle-fighting without fear. There's damage up front, but it's less tedious, equals less chances to screw up.
Here's a few things to be cautious of:
He likes to get very close to you before his Blazing Blow.
He sometimes pauses a split second before starting his Blazing Blow.
These can throw off your timing. You'll think he's already starting his cast and start strafing away from him, but then he'll run after you and cast it in your new direction. Never stop turning!
Casters can use these tendencies to their advantage. As he's casting, taking just a few steps back will give you a decent time window to get off some of your medium-speed spells. Just make sure that once he catches up to you, you follow the above advice and don't misjudge his next attack.
The minimum range for his charge is pretty short.
Keep that in mind when trying to move him somewhere. More reason to consider the "charge pull" option - get all the movement done up front in controlled conditions. I was pulling him away from another hostile, not even trying to get out of his range, and he charged. Might've been as low as 10 or 15 yards. Unlike a max range charge, from that distance you're not gonna have time to de-stun before his Blow lands, so you're probably dead. If you're not a tank and he's got a kiln up, you're definitely dead.
That shield is nice, keep it up.
Shadowfiend + Fade during Kilns to take the heat off.
Atonement healing will actually keep fiends alive the entire duration.
Edit: Void Tendrils are very effective, but be damn sure not to be at charge distance when they wear off.
Pain Suppression and Dispersion work while stunned.
Hf gl dd!
Thought I'd add for priests if you use void tendrils on a kilnmaster he will target the tendrils and so all his blazing blows will be in the same direction for the 20 seconds duration so thats 20 seconds without needing to move. (VT can take a few hits and you will never have any problems if you use Divine star on CD which will heal them).
All movement slowing effects are somehow constantly disappearing from these silly designed creature.
These npcs are easy to solo if you're an Elemental Shaman. All you need is the Totemic Projection talent.
Cast a Searing Totem and then use Totemic Projection to place it near/in front of the Eternal Kilnmaster. After about 5 seconds, the npc will be aggroed by the totem and continue to spam Blazing Blow on it. Because it's aoe damage, the totem takes no damage and continues to tank it. Strangely, you can dps the Eternal Kilnmaster while this is happening and NOT pull aggro off the totem.
However, as soon as it casts to summon the eternal kiln it will break the its focus on the totem and the npc will come after you. If you're ranged too far it will charge/stun/probably kill you, so be close. You can get their health down super low before they cast the kiln and come after you. Also be careful if there are other npcs around cause they can also be aggroed by the totem.
Similarly, this technique can be used on the Eroded Cliffdwellers. They just try stomping around on the totem, which does nothing at all. Occasionally they'll throw a boulder at you but most of the time they're trying to kill an invincible totem.
Edit: Cliffdwellers, not Cliffwalkers. Who thought up that name :/
Immune to hunter pet's
, but not to voidwalker's
The loot table says he has a low chance of dropping Ash covered horn can anyone confirm?
If you're trying to get the Eternal Kiln item and lack the legendary cloak, you're in for a rough ride. Many of the spawns are in the Ordon Sanctuary, which you can't get to without the cloak.
