Loads of AOE and a tank type guardian who won't let a DPS move the boss, and a healing zone that's usually just out of meele range. This fight makes me wish I was a hunter. Oh, and if you die, you rez in the same room with the fight beginning again immediately all on it's own, unless you rez very close to the door.
Use the anvils as required. <HTML><A HREF="
Insanity When it's time to use them, the ground shakes, and movement speed is impaired. (so plan ahead and keep track of which ones are un-clicked)
When meteor storm hits, keep out of the little fires
is cast, it's easy to get enough distance to not get hit.
When an add spawns, unlike any other boss, the add has priority.
Keep yourself healed (use the healing zone when you can), prioritize survivability over damage. The guardian dies and rezzes, dies and rezzes, so don't get too worries when it dies ("is banished").
At 20%ish the lance is complete, click it and then use it on this guy. Scenario over. GG. On to Nalak and
It was very difficult facing this guy as holy pally, finally, after many deaths i realized all i had to do was DISPEL the defender as much as possible and keep his health up as high as i could, while doing some dps in between. After doing these things it was easy to get to the 20% for the spear to pop.
Difficulty I can deal with, but the final boss is frustrating, almost by design.
1. Healing circles don't spawn very frequently, and when they do, they have a chance to spawn somewhere you can't reach like, hilariously, on top of the forge.
2. When you die and respawn, the boss respawns in combat with the defender (at full health, of course) which means you've got 15 seconds before he casts shadow crash at you and pulls you into combat, so good luck swapping out glyphs or talents to try a new strategy without it being a rushed, frantic decision.
3. Speaking of, there's no ground effect for the shadow crashes, so you either need to see them coming (which is difficult due to the amount of crap in the room) or watch the cast bar (which, for me, meant I was missing raid warnings.)
4. Also the room is so cluttered with crap, my camera kept getting stuck behind things.
5. When the celestial defender "dies" and the sha chases you down, he moves just slightly faster than you can get away from him and he can't be slowed or rooted so, if you're a mage like me and get chased with blink on CD, you're pretty much hosed.
6. and don't get me started on how crappy this is on a direct damage, non-DoT class. It's like everything wrong with this tier's raiding is condensed down to this fight.
I'm sick of it.
By far one of the most annoying quests or bosses in WoW ever. During this quest, I for the first time ever slammed my fist onto my desk in frustration at something in WoW. I have a ton of patience, and nothing has ever angered me as much as this boss.
Be prepared to curse and yell a lot unless you're a DPS with strong current tier raid gear. As a healer, I have managed to pick up some decent offspec gear here and there, but nothing too fantastic (ilvl 491) and it took me four attempts to beat this as a Feral offspec Druid. The worst part is there seems to be an incredible amount of RNG to the fight. Total it took me four attempts. On the third attempt, I burned through all of the forges by about 22%, and wasn't able to survive in time to grab the lance. The next time, I did the exact same strategy, and got him to 20% with two forges left. So it seems the frequency with which he uses Insanity and forces you to burn a forge to stop the channel is slightly random, adding more frustration to an already extremely annoying and random solo encounter.
Out of all my years in WoW, I'd rate this quest a 1/10. I'd rather go back and farm Nature Resist gear and potions for Huhuran than ever have to deal with this quest ever again.
I actually made an account just to complain about this quest. After 176g repair later I'm done and will never attempt this crappy quest again. I have played for 7 years in this game and this is by far thee worst quest I have ever seen. And I do mean the last part ( Sha of Amalgamation). I was looking forward to this quest for a long time to find out what a pain in the ass it was. I am all for things being hard and rewarding in this game but this is well past any of that. Thank you Blizzard I appreciate the fun someone must have had in making this frustrating encounter...but this actually ruined the quest for me...I'll pass. Also thank you I'm glad I wasted all that Trillium now.
I must be completely stupid because I am a fury warrior with 521 IL and have not been able to down this guy after 8 attempts.(##RESPBREAK##)2060##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##
This is incredibly easy as a warlock. Just let voidy do the tanking, step out of the shadow thingies the sha casts at you and hit the anvils when it casts insanity (took me about 3 anvils but then again I already have ilvl 510, so high dps certainly makes this fight less frustrating).
This is a terrible quest. I am not pleased.
Yeah, as i516 hunter I have pretty much bagged it. It is seriously not fun and it will be luck not skill or anything else if would get it. None of my other toons are going to even try the Wrathion line, just not worth it.
Ok, I thought it was just me. This is by far the worst quest ever. I have died until my gear is down to 20%. I can't get out. It's just not worth it. I realize the gem should take a little difficulty to acquire, but my goodness. I'm about to rip my hair out. I finally hearthed out. 172g repair bill. They can keep the gem. 510 Shadow Priest.
So this is a pretty ridiculous fight to do. even worse for melee b/c of all the reasons everyone else put on here already. However, i managed to think of a strategy that worked for my 505 Protection Paladin that got me all the way. it was close, but i did it. This strategy will work for most melee dps and tanks as well if you have no dps off spec, like me, or if your dps gear is crap. Here are some things you'll need.
- Speed boost: anything that can get you from one side of the room to the other quickly enough. Jinyu Assassin Potions (or w/e they're called) if need be.
- Highest DPS rotation: I put this in here for tanks like me, there is usually a rotation you'll use for survivability, and buffs or auras, or stances, or w/e. but if there is a way you can change a few things up to deal more dmg. DO IT.
- anything that you can use to help survive a hit or two from the "Insanity" spell should be saved for Insanity only.
- Patience. Virtue or not, just don't destroy your comp. you'll regret it, i promise. :)
Instead of moving the boss near the anvils, i left him by the stairs. this makes it easy to move around him while he casts Meteor Shower. Don't really worry about what's going on with the defender. just be ready to move inside the healing beam he sets down, as you will need this.
When the boss is channeling the meteor shower, you'll want to continue your rotation as you SLOWLY move around the boss at MAX MELEE RANGE (this is very important, can you tell?) you'll be able to avoid the spots the meteors hit if you do it right as you're getting a few shots in as well.
When the boss begins to cast Insanity, you'll have some time to get to an anvil (about 5 seconds if i remember correctly). Start moving immediately! This is where your speed boost comes in handy. Death Knights may need to switch to unholy AND pop your speed increase to get enough of a boost. :( I recommend starting with the farthest anvil from you, as you shouldn't have anything on CD yet, and you'll need the boost for that one. you MAY take 1 hit at times, so don't let your health get too low without healing yourself.
When the boss switches to start attacking you while the defender is "Banished" take this opportunity to move the boss as close to the defender as you can. This way when the defender DOES spawn a healing beam, you'll be close enough to it and the boss to heal, and dps away.
That's the jist of the strategy. you may need to alter it to your class. Hope you get him. :)
1) During all the fight stay close to an anvil (they are used to interrupt the boss)
2) When Sha casts
just move away.
3) When Sha casts
use the anvil to interrupt him (or you almost certainly die!).
When the boss is around 9M HP
finishes to forge a lance. Click the lance and a button will appears next to your action bars, so use the button to hit Sha with the lance.
PS.: You can use the healing pool, but it's not really necessary. If you do the steps above right, you can finish the fight without needing any healing and maybe with some anvil unused!
If you are Prot/Holy like myself, this will be one tough fight. After many attempts in both specs, and I mean many, over 900g in repairs, I finally did it in holy spec. After you die, you'll notice the defender is no longer in your party. Forget him. I just let him keep dying.
From the spirit resurrecter, Judge the Amalgamation immediately and follow that with Avenging Wrath combined with Divine Favor and start Holy Shocking and Denouncing him to death. With Holy Prism off cooldown as well. In the attempt I finally did get him, I got him shortly after the last anvil. Try and save your Divine Shield until the very end in case of the shadow rain crap he does or another insanity wrecking your party as you look for the lance.
493 Holy/22.6k DPS.
EDIT: Destroyed 1 mouse.
I made a nice easy list of the steps you will take in working on completing this quest.
1. Die who knows how many times at a normal pace.
2. Die once at an incredibly fast pace.
3. Look at your gear and realize it is all broken.
4. Wonder how many times you died.
5. Accidentally get auto rezzed by spirit healer while counting in your head how many times you think you died.
6. Die again.
7. Run around room in ghost form and count the different sets of bones you and you alone have left behind +1 body that has yet to disintegrate. (this is your total number of deaths)
9. Do whole instance again, and curse that you have to start from the beginning
10. Repeat step 1-9 three times.
11. Repeat step 1-9 an additional 3 more times.
12. kILL aMALGAMATION the quest on a Monday night by pure luck thanks to a hot streak of critical hits.
13. Add the totals from steps 7, 10, and 11 and realize you've spent about 900g in repairs.
15. Log on the next day and learn in trade chate that the quest was nerfed and Sha Amalgamation is now a lvl 90 non elite.
16. Vomit, and stop playing WOW.
I have tried this scenario/quest as a lvl 512 Assassination Rogue. I died numerous times with a repair cost of about 200g. Then I read some posts and did the following, assuming you have progressed to the Sha of Amalgamation part:
1) Get +275 stat food
2) Get flasks that boost your most valuable stat by +1000. For me it was
. Don't bring just one. On my server they are 20g a piece and well worth the investment.
I died at least 10 times using the described way of dodging damage, bursts, meteors and trying to sneak into healing zones. Did not work for me...There was always too much health on the Sha for the spear to pop.
I took other posts in other sections under advice and did the following:
1) After death, resurrect right by the door.
2) Eat +275 stat food. And take the +1000 stat potion. If you haven't already. Its effect persists through death.
3) Steel yourself and get going.
4) Head to the closest anvil.
At this time the Sha will pop up and will start attacking the Celestial Defender.
5) Take the
6) Keep running around the forge and pop the anvils. Yes the Sha isn't casting Insanity. Just do it. As fast as you can.
7) Do not save the last anvil as a back-up plan. There is no back-up. There is no Plan B.
Once the last anvil is popped you should be right where the Sha and the defender are duking it out.
8) Pop all DPS boosting cool-downs that you have.
9) Go to town on the Sha of Amalgamation and dps your heart out.
At 20% the spear should appear and a use button will show on your screen. This will kill the Sha real quick.
This may sound that you will have to do steps 1-9 only once and be done with it. This was not true for me. I had to try three times (I only bought 3 potions and made it just in time).
The first try I didn't even get to the 20% mark. The Sha cast Insanity and I couldn't dps through it. The second try I chickened out and left one anvil as a back-up. Big mistake.
Try three went so smooth. Chugged the potion, ran and clicked all anvils. You have to be quick and you have to do it without having to backtrack. I did just that and as soon as I got to the Sha he was dead. I didn't even have to hit him once. I saw no Lance button on my screen. Nothing. The quest completed and I got the legendary lance piece.
Took the portal out and headed to Nalak.
I hope this helped out. Don't lose faith and believe in yourself. This is doable. All I have is LFR gear. You should be able to do this, too.
P.S. On my BM hunter (ilvl 504) I was able to complete the scenario on the first try, evading meteors and being out of range for the Sha's aoe attack. Mend Pet!
edit: Changed the Strength potion to "Darkwater Potion". I am not sure why it showed "Strength" potion. As a Rogue, this would be silly. Thanks to Hidengokill.
A terribly frustrating quest but I guess it is expected for a legendary weapon.
As a Frost Mage, the constant moving hurt me alot. Eventually I ran out of Anvils and died to insanity. If your ilvl is low like mine (491) do what I did and Lust, Orb and then Alter Time. Pop an Anvil and Ice Lance the crap out of him while he is vulnerable and you should be alright.
I found a trick while doing this on my 514 dk ( being in blood spec really helped with the self heals). Either it was my own personal luck that it worked out this way or the pattern is pretty close to this experience. I died about 7-10 times before I figured this out but what I learned is this. The defender will tank the guy off the stairs, if its different for you just work with its placement. Shortly after I started to dps him, he started to cast his insanity nonsense so I ran to the back of the room and popped the anvil there. One should always do this, as things get heated up the closer he dies. Not his spells just your want for him to finally die. After that, the defender "died" or was "banished" but the sha still remained locked on him so I grabbed all my long ranged abilities and started to pop them: Army, all my poisons, and others. Me, trying to think right and actually kill this guy, let my minions deal with him while I waited for his next abilities. I continued this, eventually going up and whacking on him during the times I wasn't running around and while I wasn't getting to the anvils. I also started to plan my running, as the shadows do land right behind you as you are running, you can use it to get to the next anvil. I found right after he had me run like a chicken without a head, he either popped banish or insanity. If it was banish, he immediately popped insanity after the celestial came back. So, if I ever do this again, I will know the following things:
start working anvils from the back to the sha
watch for the pattern
and plan my running so I can pop the furthest back anvil that I can.
I hope this helps those who need it, or at least give them a better chance at surviving. Good luck and happy hunting!
There are some stages of my WoW life where I have gone in to NERDRAGE melt-down, and I must say, this is definitely one of them times without a (sha)dow of a doubt (hehehe see what I did there. Anyways to cut a super long story short, I wiped dusted off tried again etc about 10+ times, then I started reading more posts on how to nuke this guy down and I found a super easy way from Turpentine.
All you do is wait for the Encounter to start and then I clicked the 1st anvil, then I dropped
and sprinted around the forge and popped all the rest of the Anvil's in succession. By the time I got round to the Defender and Sha, The Sha inhaled his last breathe.
Needless to say I jumped up and screamed F&*K YEAH and woke 1/2 the neighbour hood
Good luck guys on this extremely hard (and now made easy P2 of Wrathions Scenario). Now go get your lance abd sort out Nalak.
Ive played this game for over 7 years now and right now this quest almost makes me feel like quitting but I still like doing the pet battles and gathering new pets. I have found that when you die and release and you pop up next to the Spirit rezer, run past it and get as close to the door as possible. Here you can eat to get your +300 to your main stat, then you can Mount UP on your Traveler's Tundra Mammoth and repair your armor.
*EDIT* when you pop up after releasing your spirit if the spirit rezer isnt there yet, you can go through the door to the outside. If this happen just go ahead and eat and mount up and repair your gear. Then just ride off into the distance and you will pop back into the room and the battle will restart.
If you have forgotten to repair and die in the scenario, resurrect just outside the door to the chamber that the fight with the Sha is in. you will be locked out of the instance, but you will be able to pop your repair mount and take a breather. when you are ready to go back in and try again, just run down the stairs towards the mine entrance. When u get close to the mine entrance you will get a
that you are leaving the boundary of the instance. keep going and you will be teleported back into the chamber and you can try again. Hope this helps.
For me as a rogue the first time i got there i found this fight quite simple
Avoid the grey spots on the ground from Meteor
When the celestial defender is banished and the Sha comes after you stand between to anvils.. That way when he cast insanity you have them ready for the using.
take advantage of green spots when you need (i never actually had to use them because of recup)
when lance spawned he was doing insanity.. safe then sorry route here, hit an anvil and then kill him
Tried a few times as prot pala, just couldn't bring the damage, got insanity around 23% with no forges left. Checked here for tips, and used what Turpentine said, little modified thou. Attacked normally with Avenging Wrath popped, and when first Insanity started i used all forges, brought the thing right down to 20% and it was gg \o/
i found oit that the faster you cklick on the anvils the more damage he gets, after several deaths i manage to kill him just using a speedboost and godtwolf on my shaman. not a single hit, just fast cklicks on the anvils.
I'm going to post it as how I did it on my Blood DK tank.
Just tank like normal and make sure you use DUAL DPS trinkets. You will need extra DPS from them.
Tank him close to each unused Anvil. As you use one up his health starts dropping.
Tank like normal the way you SOLO dungeons.
By the last 2 anvil he should be down to 20% and a SPEAR will popup.
Use it to finish him off.
This seems like a TANK with DPS or untank MEGA dps fight. You will need DPS to down this boss. No way around it.
If you're a paladin, this should be pretty easy, regardless of spec.
> Reglyph to Speed of light.
> Once you get near the first anvil, use Speed of Light, click all other anvils.
> By the time you get to the last anvil you're running at normal speed, you should be able to click it once then pop all c/d's and blow him up.. I had him under 20% before I could even inquisition.at 3 holy power.
That was after wiping 4-5 times. Once as holy, just spam healing the guardian. Didn't work. And a couple times as Ret (I only do 60-70k dps since its offspec) trying to interrupt using the anvils one at a time.
Seriously? This quest! iLevel 546 rogue and I really struggled with this bugger.
Hints would be; buff the crap outta yourself - food, flasks etc.
BUY A REPAIR MOUNT! I don't have one, and after however many deaths, my gear starts getting really broken, and I'm like "Whelp, better get a rep ... oh, nowhere in this locked room to repair ..." so you have to start the WHOLE SCENARIO AGAIN! *cries*
Do not pop all the anvils at once. You will regret it when Insanity comes a'calling. But do use them to interrupt the Meteor Shower (with Feint up to try and reduce damage taken) if you've got a lot of them up, you can also use them to bring the Celestial Defender back from banishment (the Sha doesn't do much damage when you have aggro, but I find it's waayy easier to kick his ass while he's otherwise occupied)
Use Sprint to get to anvils super fast when Insanity comes up.
Oh the repair bill!
I did this last night (ret pally), and after many wipes, this is was did it:
- Hit Sha with Light's Hammer and Guardian
- Judgment, Exorcism, Crusader Strike combo to build Holy Power
- Healed Defender with 3-Holy Flash of Light - This will heal over time to help him stay up
- Spammed Sha with Holy Avenger/Inquisition and Judgment/Templar's Verdict and Crusader Strike/Templar's Verdict
- Use anvils only to interrupt - gotta make them last long enough
- Spammed some more until Wrathion said the lance was ready
I was basically down to threads at this point because Jeeves was on CD and I could not repair.
This is pretty easy. You'll probably die first time so just use this strat once you rez...
Run to the anvils and click them as fast as you can (run in a circle). The speed at which you click them determines how much damage he takes. Once you've clicked them all, start your zerg. Watch for the Lightning Lance to descend down and when ready, click it. This will give you a button on your screen. Target the sha and click the button to finish him off. Easy win.
I'm going for my third cloak at the moment (Prot Paladin roughly 530 iLevel) and I have never had so much trouble with a quest, my first was a Frost Mage and after I think 2 wipes I had no issue bringing the Sha down enough for the spear to spawn, second was a Resto Druid and I think it took me a couple more (4-5 in total) but after those wipes and I relised I could rely on the Guardian a lot more, it wasn't much of a problem again.
As Prot Paladin I do not know where I am going wrong, my first few attempts were alright doing the usual tactic of interrupting insanity with an Anvil and just damaging him after that, I can tank the Sha but the Guardian still takes extra damage I wish he could avoid, and I would usually reach about 30-35% before I ran out of Anvils and he popped an Insanity. I came to wowhead and read a few comments about how Paladin is super easy with the Speed of Light talent, so I took this, and ran as fast as my little legs could carry me and even after I popped all the anvils, he was never much lower than 60%, I think one attempt I got him to 30% before he chose to Insanity me out.
Is there any other tactics people might have used, because I am really struggling with this one as Prot Paladin, I don't want to go out and by the potion to have to restart the whole thing or does anyone know anything that might help?
For you who don't know what to do:
I just died like 6 times and almost gave up :P
Thought %^&* it used displacer beast to the first pad and then dash to hit all of them quickly.
Got him to 22% did some dmg, the spear came up i threw it and GG.
I'm a healer with an invisible dps so you don't need dmg at all, just alot of movement speed and this is an easy NPC ^^
I am a frost DK and i am having so much trouble with this guy i have been using flasks food etc but i keep dying no matter what i have poped my ghouls etc tried everything i could popping everything i could to stay alive and to knock his down but yet it seems like after a certain point he starts to re gain health though that could be just me i am at my wits end and i dont know what to do
This is easier than you think and doesn't require any prep with this strat (I beat it under ilevel 500 as a warr with prot pieces mixed in, blue weapons, no gems/enchants, potions etc.):
1. Start off by DPSing him normally in place.
2. When he starts to cast the first AOE (Insanity), run on the inside track of the anvils, and hit all 7 as other have described. If you use the INSIDE track, you do not need any speed enhancements (although they help if you happen to have some). Note you can hit the anvils from a decent distance away.
3. He should very close or past 20%, close the gap if there is one, click the spear, click the action button.
I did this in hilarious gear and it only took 2 tries (first try he started his AOE very early). My kill attempt I did 10% of his health before the first AOE, and he had 15% health left after anvil/Celestial damage.
Hope that helps. :)
Blizzard made this boss annoyingly overpowered on purpose.
He's like the Hogger of Pandaria.
In my opinion this encounter is much easier as a healer than (especially) a melee DPS'er. By maintaining situational awareness and
boosting your spirit
as much as you can, this difficult scenario can be completed with minimal stress/damage to gear.
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP!
Bonus damage done by Celestial Defender
increases the higher his health is
, so throw your biggest heals you have at him to keep him topped up. Because of his larger health pool and the constant damage he takes, this fight is pretty spirit-intense. Food/CD's that boost spirit are highly recommended.
2. Because of the constant barrage of Shadow Bursts, among others, this encounter requires constant movement. Be mindful of avoiding them and using whatever mobile heal tools you have.
3. Releasing an anvil charge will bring the Celestial Defender down to half(?)-ish health. Be prepared to do some intense burst healing after interrupting Insanity.
By keeping Celestial Defender as close to 100% as possible throughout the fight, I was able to get the Amalgamation to the required 30% with a couple charged anvils to spare.
round 1 through 20 without tactics ..... 20 death, big repair bill
round 1 with tactics, i got to lucky and 3 anvil's critted, the rest normal, killing the sha clean past the 20%
round 2 nether tempest for ice lance ,popt 5 anvils, just incase for another lucky hit, then last 2
and dps him down
ilvl 526 frost mage
+50% speed potion
+blazing speed talent
( i could not teleport out and back in for repair, recommend repair mount)
The comments here were extremely helpful. As a ret pally, after wiping three times on sha, 4th time I did the following.
Popped all the cd's in the beginning. When sha was about 85% health, he started to cast insanity. Used "Speed of light" and activated all the anvils while running. Sha's life came down to 5% and he died the next second.
I think the key is to reduce his health a little bit before activating the anvils so that the sha wont be able to cast insanity later. Also it is very important to activate all the anvils at once to cause maximum damage.
The anvils can be activated While running. You need not be very close to them to activate them. It helps to run in the inner circle than the outer circle around the anvils.
Turpintine is a miss informer or a seriously bad player: ignore that post!
Simply Kite the sha around the room and use anvils to interrupt his AOE! The end.
Submitted a screen shot of where you can use your repair mount INSIDE this scenario. Note the doorway, and how it is a different color than the rest of the area. You can mount inside the "door frame"
Just finished after about 7 tries.
What I did...Marksmanship Hunter..540 ilev
DPS normally, using normal rotation, aspect of iron hawk. (key bind aspect of cheetah to F1)
When sha started to cast insanity, run to nearest anvil, press F1 (aspect of cheetah), click anvil, run around center and click all 7
NOW pop all cds including Stampede, murder of crows, and rapid fire. Burn sha until spear drop (right about over Wrathion's Head. Click spear, click button you get in the middle of your screen. Hold breath hoping you don't die while the spear is being "aimed"...
*I would probably have quit WoW at this point had I died while the spear was being thrown after clicking the button to throw it.*
I died several times and spent about 200g in repairs. I left the que and had to start from the beginning. (killing the forge guy).
This isn't my video, but it helped out a lot! Hope it can help you too. Good luck!
