This Gnoll can be found walking around in Jade Forest. ATM he has a gold elite dragon status and is lvl86. He is not hostile, he is neutral.
Being curious I killed him & I regret it. Up until looting his corpse I thought him to be nothing but a scrubby Gnoll, however, after looting the sole item on him, a romance book titled "A Steamy Romance Novel: Hot & Misty", I realise that I just killed, most possibly likely, the last romantic Gnoll left in Azeroth... and don't I feel like a jerk about that.
I won't spoil the story but let's just say my favourite line from the book is: "
She dipped in a polite bow; Marcus felt a sudden warmth as he was reminded why the term bouncy was often used to describe the Pandarian.
On live he dropped the book for me once then
on his respawn.
is not 100% as I've now killed him
five times and got the glass twice. Please note if farming for XP or
if he drops the blue a second time you are unable to loot it.
New: The amount of XP has been greatly reduced in the latest hotfix.
Martar's Magnifying Glass
10 min Duration. 1hour Cd.
Dont know if he scales with your level or not. but at Level 86. he has 184k health is level 86.
Since hes quite farmable, I've been doing just that. He gives 205k exp if you have your +15% guild standard up. I have yet to see his trinket drop, only a variety of magazines after about 10 kills, but I'm just gonna keep at it. 2-3 kills every 10min giving a total of 600k+ exp without having to move much isn't something I'm going to complain about. I'll post a picture with his spawn point in a minute or so (I dont have any co-ord addons atm).
Picture indicating where he spawns:
Map of this location:
Found him at 55, 31, and he dropped his trinket on the first kill. More interesting, to me, was that this spot was a great place to farm some Ghost Iron.
Came across him randomly and I make a habit of at least TRYING to kill named NPC's if I come across them, especially if not marked with a "!" to indicate it's a quest related world boss. Dropped the trinket!
His respawn timer is very short. Each time I killed him I did a scenario, and he was back up by the time I finished.
The only NPC not able to properly hide the book from everyone but rogues
killed him about 5 times off and on tonight. no trinket so far, but the 359k xp each time has been awesome! :)
Besides a chance to drop the trinket that lets him frolic with you, he also apparently owns everyone book in the Steamy Romance Novel series. Maybe this is what he's referring to when he says "No! Martar's treasure is Martar's!"......?
I camped his spawn point for roughly an hour and have decided his respawn rate to be 5-7 minutes. Using a timer to time the amount from his death to his respawn, I got these numbers:
As an 85 with the guild and rested xp bonus, I got 322244xp for each kill and at 86 with the same bonuses, I got 359700xp. If you're too busy to do quests, killing him is a simple way to get some easy xp as you can do something else while you wait for him to respawn.
He appears to drop only one item at a time so for loot, I got:
x4 (Cannot hold more than one so sell the one in your bag for 15g and pick up the other when you return)
I am still missing the other two. :c
I was telling people about those books in trade and someone offered 2k for them! i couldn't believe it!
Anyone else think that this model is a bit out of date for MoP?
Came across him when I was going to mine some Ghost Iron.
Since I'm the hunter that loves killing stuff (Rares and other elites) I thought he could drop something nice (Always hoping for mounts.. Stupid me)
I was curious about what he would drop and he looked funny to kill. Since I was 90 it was easy to down him, he didn't do so much dmg to my pet either. Just had to burst and he was down in seconds.
When I looted him I first thought it'd be some crappy poor loot, but then I saw the rare item. Not really usefull for me, but could be fun to just use it and see what happens.
He could be a mob to farm while lvling. Not too sure what the XP gives or the respawn time.
~ Have fun
So... he has all of the romance novels... and a thing to let you see more clearly. Obviously a peeping gnoll.
Just killed this mob very slightly southeast of Emperor's Omen in the Jade Forest. Came across him while running towards a quest turn-in.. No blue dropped, just the steamy romance novel. Found him around 11:55pm ST on Moon Guard.
this guy's name is somewhat of a play on words. another word for someone who's 'not so smart' is dumb, and if you put that at the end instead you get...
martar dumb or martyrdom
I spent a month or two (along with a couple of friends helping me) doing the Dalaran fishing daily for the Northern Exposure romance book as an rp gift for a friend's char for Winter's Veil. Being so close to Winter's Veil starting, I decided to just camp this guy with hopefully better luck.
Approx. 10 Hours Later
Big Brass Bombs x13
Steamy Romance Novel x12
Forbidden Love x10
Hot and Mist x7
Blue Moon x1
Spy Glass x15~ (unique, so I lost count)
Before Northern Exposure finally dropped.
