Ji Firepaw is the NPC that was at the center of a hot debate regarding the presence of sexism in dialogue and behavior in the game.
Original text for male and female characters, respectively, for the quest
Hello, friend! You've got a strong look to you! I bet you're all the rage with the ladies! Join me! You and I are going to be good friends!
Hello, friend! You're some kind of gorgeous, aren't you? I bet you can't keep the men off of you! Join me! You and I are going to be good friends!
His new text on the beta is thus:
You seem poised and ready. I can tell we are going to be good friends.
I only make mention here of this because there are passionate feelings on both sides and I don't want what happened on the official WoW forum and WoW Insider to occur on Wowhead. Please, do not discuss it here. Thank you.
He won't be visible until you have completed
For those of you playing through the Pandaren starting experience, you may notice that Ji has a different hairstyle in the cinematics than he does in-game.
Ji has not returned our calls inquiring about his need to pretty himself up for the cameras.
As a Pandarian warrior, Ji and I had many adventures together.
Together we awoke elemental spirits, mourned deaths of fallen friends, showed our compassion to strangers, healed a scar on our very homeland, I encouraged him to follow his heart for the woman he admired and loved but supported him as we took a separate path away from desires and stood side by side as we pledged our allegiance to Garrosh Hellscream and the Horde understanding full well that we might have to pick up arms against our former friends.
Yet, afterward, when I went back to speak and have tea with my old friend he stared at me blankly and said to me, "I have nothing to teach you, warrior."
It was the 'warrior' that stung the most...
Does anyone else find it weird he's still level 10 after you leave the Isle, but on the Alliance Aysa had a quick boost to level 90? I would think since they're masters and pretty much the leaders of the Pandaren on those factions, they would both be level 90, or at least boss level. Hopefully Blizz will see that, and level up more. Just makes him seem weak, just because he chose the Horde.
Seems Ji will play a role in the Siege of Orgrimmar in Patch 5.4 according to the sound files.
You can hear Aysa Cloudsinger professing her love for Ji at 0:54 in the video-
Glad Blizz didn't completely forget about Aysa and Ji.
Does anyone knowwhether his shoulderpads are available to player in game? Pandarens who wear leather get everything else making up the Huojin look (unless I'm mistaken).
-edit- It does look like he is wearing a similar model to the Monastic Shoulders
He is in the Siege or Orgrimmar raid just after you enter Orgrimmar. Some of the guards clearly were holding him captive but after Aysa yelled for him I missed what happened. Either they ran off with him or killed him. However, I don't think he was killed because they would have left his body.
edit: Aysa carries Ji out back through the gates (Ji is alive).
