Jammal'an the Prophet can be found in the Temple of Atal'Hakkar(Sunken Temple) which is found in the Swamp of Sorrows. The dungeon can be quite confusing but here are the steps to reaching Jammal'an and claiming his head for your rewards for the quest:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1446
Group Suggestion: >Warrior, Paladin, Priest, Mage,< Hunter/Warlock/Rogue/Shaman/Druid (>Most Important<)
1) The first step of the dungeon after you enter the instance is to follow the stairs to the 3rd level of the instance.
2) You will reach the balcony of the top level which lead to the circular spiral that leads around the floor and a door that leads to one of the mini-boss trolls: Zul'lor, Gasher, Hukku, Loro, Zolo, and Mijan. All 6 of these trolls must be defeated before Jammal'an can be fought because they form a shield which protects the area Jammal'an resides in and also The Shade of Eranikus the final boss.
3) After the 6 trolls are defeated after clearing groups which can be easily taken down with single target dps and AoEing of the smaller imp mobs.
4) After clearing the top floor make your way back down to the entrance and take the spiral staircases which lead to the lower floor where a giant room of Green Dragonkin await you. This room must be ENTIRELY cleared if you with to fight Eranikus after facing Jammal'an.
5) Make your way to the eastern side of the room where you can find the path to Jammal'an and his guards, in this room the enemies, Atal'Ai Deathwalkers are very annoying, they can fear and once they are killed an invincible ghost mob, Atal'Ai Deathwalker's Spirit spawns and will chase your party members trying to finish them off.
6) Once the room is completely cleared you may face Jammal'An and his bodyguard Ogom the Wretched. All DPS should be focused on Ogom to kill his as fast as possible, Jammal'An can also mind control a random party member turning them into an Atal'Ai warrior with increased attack power, if a rogue or warrior is transformed they must be polymorphed right away or they will 2shot almost any member of your party, after Ogom is killed Jammal'An goes down easily because he has a very low HP amount. Once he's dead collect your head for your quest and whatever BoPs drop!
I hope this helped anyone curious.

Simply to add a thing or two about the transformation, because it can cause wipe pretty easily if you don't know how to handle it:
10 sec before Jammal can transform you you will recieve an undispellable debuff with a description reading: "You are being transformed" . When Jammal casts it he will yell "Join us!" That's how you know when to check your buff status. Once you see you have the debuff (icon represents a skull glowing green) just run from the rest of the party. The monster you get transformed into has high damage but very slow movement speed, so if you get away in time, the rest of the party will have no problems with your transformation.
The transformation debuff itself is a curse with 15(?) sec duration, so it might be dispellable by a mage, but I haven't tried this yet. Someone inform me if they know.
Also, note that Jammal will cast Earthgrab every now and then, disabling your ability to run away while being transformed, so a Paladin with Blessing of Freedom would be useful there if you are a well coordinated group.

I have only done Jammal'an once, and the group was made up of:
Shaman (me): Melee DPS
Warrior: Main Tank
Priest: Healing, Shackle Undead
Rogue: Melee DPS
Druid: Backup healing, CC for dragonkin
Priest got the vestments from him.

In case anyone was wondering, no, you can't solo him. When he transforms you and you're the only one in aggro range he resets to full health.
Well, I guess if you can nuke him fast enough before he M/C's you could, but I'm a prot pally and I couldn't pull it off.
So bring a low level or someone to kite him/tank till you get the hex off.

Because I didn't see it mentioned here, if you attack Jammal'an without clearing the room, the first few rows will come beat on you. Learned this the hard way on a stealth run on my druid.

Just a side-note, you have to kill all the mini-bosses, Atal'ai Gaurdians, before you can get to Jammal'an.

As a note for lvl 80, he's really easy, just walk up to him and kill him, and then burn the adds when they come. Be careful, and remember to run out of range once the ghosts start to spawn, they hit a good amount, and are immune to everything. Took my DK down to about 4k in around 3-4 seconds.

As far as I can tell Blizz nerfed all the guardians for the Shattering...so Jammal is ready and waiting for you as soon as you enter the instance. I'm thinkin perhaps the staircase that is mentioned above was originally off the first hallway to the left, which is now blockaded with fallen debris. There are now only four bosses highlighted on the map for ST (map above looks accurate).

He used to say
"The shield be down! Rise up Atal'ai! Rise up!" with some pretty epic voice acting, but the instance has been changed.
Can anyone find the sound file?

Just tried ST last night solo as a Lv 67 Night Elf Fury Warrior and thought after reading everything I'd be prepared. Nope! Did the typical run of clearing his room first of the weaker mobs then preparing to go to town on the boss - definitely have a couple interesting observations here.
For the worshippers before the boss, if you kill them, they become transparent blue shades with about 9K HP. For some reason though, despite being immune to everything I could throw at them including Stratholme Holy Water, they would sit around and whack a few times (for 200 a pop), then simply die on their own. Kind of made me panic at first but never seen shades die like that so that was a relief.
The boss itself was at first straightforward but his hex made fighting him fairly challenging. Tried a good 5-6 times or so without success as sooner or later, he'd swing and seemingly randomly turn me into a slow elemental-like mob. Curse causes no damage and lasts 15 seconds. If Jammal doesn't regain his full health, he'll be very close to it but generally by the time the curse wears, he's healed anyway. As a warrior I could find no way to stun or prevent the curse. Thankfully at 67 though, I could do a few attempts at a time without worrying a great deal about my health. He'd not hit too often but for the low 100s when he did.
After 5-10 attempts I tried the pulling route across the room thinking that it was the totems encouraging him to curse. No luck there. Totems just seem to do those swirling fireball spells and cause damage. 25 HP though so easy to get rid of.
Finally I thought it was Jammal's buddy that was having a part to play on the cursing. While I was wrong in that respect, killing Ogom did give me the idea to simply well, DPS him down as fast as I could. Took three or four more tries to blow through 25K HP as fast as I could but eventually - and surprisingly - Ogom fell.
It was then I knew I could beat this. Well, given a few more times. I know Jammal constantly was starting the curse but I could never personally tell what motion or timer caused the change (maybe I just didn't see the status effect). Either way since I as a Night Elf had no shadow resistence or much of anything else except for natural resistence, I would say I had a chance of ~20-30% of being cursed. Not the best of luck.
Tried another go with my leftover Rhea's Pet I had kept from the Badlands quest - trigged the dragon a little bit before I was cursed and found that if timed right, that may be one method to kill Jammal alone. The fight continued and Jammal switched to the dragon before I was uncursed, keeping the fight going... Only problem though was he went through the dragon's health pretty fast and once that was done, he reset again.
So to wrap this up, final go just had me popping every CD I could and toggling between Bloodthirst and Heroic Strike as often as I could and pounding those free slams. Eventually it was a joy to see my execute skill come up and just kept going until he died. Success ;).

Jammal'an the Prophet yells:

How to solo this as a (equivalent level) Unholy Death Knight.
Attack Jammal'an with your ghoul, and deal with his companion yourself. The prophet regularly transforms your ghoul into a monstrosity that crits for more than 2000 damage (at level 58) and so your ghoul will kill the Prophet relatively quickly. Remember to heal the ghoul with Death Coil.

Dungeon Journal Entry:
Jammal'an is the current leader of the Atal'ai, the extremist sect of priests who fanatically worship Hakkar. While in deep meditation, Jammal'an received instructions on how to resurrect Hakkar by using the blood of his draconic foes, the green dragonflight. Jammal'an and his undead bodyguard Ogom the Wretched stand ready to oppose any who would prevent Hakkar's return, though the prophet's actions may unleash upon Azeroth an even more terrible force: the Emerald Nightmare.

Raising the DK ghoul did not work. There is no attack command, so I hit Jammal'an with icy touch. I backed away while the ghoul wailed on him and eventually Jammal'an turned on him. I ran just close enough to pull Ogom, ready to spam all my trinkets and special effects. Simplifying the fight to one at a time. By the time I had just selected Ogom though, I was transformed. Not even one hit on him.
I did this not too long ago with a hunter but this never was an issue. I saw the totem but had no idea what it meant at the time. The cat was on them so if she did get earth bound it would not have made much difference. I think my hunter was in the mid-seventies at the time. I think I certainly would have remembered my cat being transformed, though, so I wonder if pets are are not affected by it now.
My DK is only 63 and sadly is just not powerful enough to get them dead fast enough.

Managed to solo him as level 53 prot. warrior. (got nothing to break the charm so this guide is for everyone! yay!)
I kept running the whole time, his rotation is totem -> flamestrike -> "Join us!"
The totem doesn't root you immediately, if you start running immediately as he starts casting the totem (rooted out the timing problem by just running all the time), and then he just idles for a split-second (waiting the command to cast flamestrike since it's off CD I believe).
Then he casts flamestrike, if you run at the correct time after he casts flamestrike he just yells "join us!" and you can go back to melee, he used the cooldown without any effect on you.
Rinse and repeat, I had to do this 4 times before he died, second wind kept me alive as I ran and no damage was coming.
EDIT: I killed the other boss, Ogom earlier. As he doesn't respawn I killed him, reseted boss and brewed this tactic up ;)

I have figured out a way to solo him and this works for anyone I'd think. Once he casts the curse on you and the countdown reaches 0, if you jump as it wears off, you don't get charmed! Well, as of patch 5.4.2 anyways :P
-soloed as a 53 prot warrior
EDIT: Decided to run it again after I found a way to solo him and now my strategy isn't working ><

I've found a way to solo him repeatedly as a 60 DK. I needed to spec unholy to have the ghoul.
Kill Ogom first, then let Jammal'an change you into the troll and reset.
Send the ghoul in to attack, but stay as far away as you can. Just get the diseases up, and build up enough runic power to keep the ghoul healed to full.
As your transformation timer ticks down, run away from the ghoul (and tell it to run someplace away from you). Heal the ghoul, and just before transformation, activate the 'huddle' ability to minimize its damage. It's best if you're out of frost runes and runic power, so you don't add dps against the ghoul.
When your transformation wears off, build runic power to heal the ghoul as quickly as possible, and repeat.
If you're too close to the ghoul when you get transformed, you'll kill the ghoul and Jammal'an will reset. Then you get to try again. :-)

If you are soloing but not on an alt that can 1shot him, his 'Join us' is a 30yard range just about, the only way to kill him is to have enough dps to kill him before the debuff resets him, have some sort of immunity like ice block or palli bubble to remove it with 1sec left, or kite him. How ever unlike most mobs inside of instances, he WILL reset if you stop attacking him for a few moments, AKA dot him up then run the F away for ever, he is easily out run able if you have some form of decent, consistent mobility, but you need to be within range to be attacking him so he dose not reset, but also more than 30yards away so he out ranges on his MC. I just soloed this on a 71 Spriest after about 30min of attempts, starting with full insane bar, and opening with eruption, mind blast and void bolt then put my 2 dots on him then book it with shield sprint/boa neck sprint or dispersion sprint. I just poked him with pain and if he casted flamestrike I got off a vamp touch and maybe a mind blast if I was lucky, waited for him to yell Join us *3* times while being out of range then poped my fiend and faded and burst him hard, then after fade falls off I just hard cast on him and let him catch me as he was at about 20k hp left, I managed to kill him with less than 1sec left on my MC debuff. I did him as a ret palli as well using the bubble strat to remove the debuff at the last sec before it MC me and burst him down, I think the palli was a bit higher lvl tho. If you play a class that dose not have any of these things you will have to wait till you can basically 1shot him to solo, it is a pain in the ass even with all of my utility and minor mobility.

Pretty sure not abe to be solo'd as level 20 Paladin. I can't outrun the curse even with speed gear. I guess I could gamble a thousand tries to find out if I can block the spell like 10 times in a row.
