Make sure to kill all the Dragonkin on the bottom floor of the instance as Eranikus will call them to help as you begin the fight and you will wipe for sure.
Besides having a lot of Hit Points and hitting fairly hard Eranikus has one big catch - he uses a sleep move that erases hate on the target that has the most hate on him. During the course of the fight he will use this two to four times probably.
To help combat this if you have a Hunter have them have their pet tank him until he does his first sleep if you have a Hunter. If not assign an offtank to get aggro until he does his first sleep. Once he does the initial sleep have the maintank taunt and start getting aggro on him. When the maintank goes down if aggro does not go to your offtank then have everyone use threat reducers (Feign Death, Cat Form Cower, Paladin Bubble, Fade, Vanish, Feint, etc.) to get aggro onto the offtank.
Besides the Sleep he's just a boss that hits hard and has a lot of HP. The battle can take a while, but it's not overly difficult.
You don't really need two tanks, if you have another melee dps class just make sure you position him the closest to Shade of Eranikus, directly under him. He will sheep the rogue instead of the warrior so he doesn't wipe aggro and go off killing casters.
A trick i have learned when fighting him is to have one person, preferably a rogue or other melee class, to stand under him the entire fight. If you do this, this will cause him to only sleep the person under him, so your tank is free to get aggro. Im not sure if they fixed it, but its worked for my groups many times.
Just solo'd with first attempt on 70 frost mage..
he hits hard luckily i let my water elemental tank him for a bit at first so i can dps him down and iceblock and dps him as he ran back and forth like monkey in the middle =D
Just took him down 4 man with a 48 priest, 51 Warrior, 52 Warrior, and 55 mage.
The two tank strategy is nice, because if he starts hitting cloth, they die super fast.
He is tauntable, but seems to resist it quite a bit. Just have the two tanks fight for aggro, and the sleep shouldn't be a problem.
You must kill the troll mini-bosses in the upper part first. Clear all of the drangonkin in the lower areas including the two dragons in the South corridor. Then kill Jammal'an the Prophet in the SE corridor and head back to the middle area. The two big dragons will be back but you can pull one at a time if you wait. After the two are dead head to the Southern corridor and Eranikus will be attackable.
This boss is difficult if you dont have 2 tanks, he cast "Slumber" which banishes the target making him immune to healing and dispels and the worst part is it causes the agro to be lost (most of the time)
if you have a hunter (and a pally) make sure to cast BoS on the hunter and let their pet tank for the 10 seconds that the main tank cannot because if you do not give them BoS the boss will go for Hunter instead of the pet and this will most of the time result in death X_X
Anyone know if paladin bubble cancels the Slumber effect Eranikus casts on the tank?
I originally posted saying that a Shaman's Tremor Totem would be effective in preventing the sleep effect from Eranikus. However, it would seem it's not a "true" sleep effect, and so isn't affected by that totem.
Despite this, a Shaman is still a great asset on this fight, because Grounding Totem will absorb every sleep so long as it is active (WoWWiki points out that he uses no other single-target spells).
We just have downed Shade of Eranikus with three people: 55 Protection Warrior and 57 Feral Druid (in bear form) dual-tanking him and 50 Priest as a healer. Not very tough fight - the key is to taunt him when he banishes one of the tanks and everything goes smooth.
And after a fight we ended up with one happy warrior wielding
With a warlock in our group of 49-51 level'd characters, we had the voidwalker tank until the Shade first applied his sleep debuff. Then our Warrior took over and we were able to burn him down pretty fast. He did sleep the Warrior, but by then the Shade was down to about 10% health, and we finished him off pretty handidly.
I killed him earlier and I must say, I was very surprised to find out how easy he is.
Me 53 Druid
I tanked w/ 3.7k HP and 4k armor. (just MoTW)
I was 'slept' 3 times, and each time it lasts around 14seconds.
He sheds his aggro on sleep, so the 54rogue picked it up.
Between the shaman and other druid nobody died.
Note, on a test run, he slept the first person that attacked him.
With a normal group, or good players 52+, this should be easy.
2 tanks would be ideal, but not necessary if you have enough healz.
Immune to mage's Slow.
I will check on this next time I'm in ST, but I'm pretty sure that the sleep is a magic debuff and thus can be dispelled by a priest. When you wake your tank up, he/she'll still have to grab aggro again, but at least you won't have to deal with finding another tank for 15 seconds.
Apparently, the sleep CAN be dispelled by priests, but only if you use Mass Dispel. Since this is a level 70 priest spell, your group most likely will not have this handy.
I'll need someone to confirm this.
Felt curious if it was possible to kill this guy at level 70 without bothering with the dragon-thrash, except for the closest group of drakes I was able to get him down just before the rest arrived as a feral druid, a rogue with Vanish might just have a less painful time doing this however ;)
VERY EASY TO TAKE DOWN!!!
51 prot pally
very easily taken down
me and a 70 hunter went into his room and he is asleep, we couldn't aggro him....any ideas why??
Hardest low level instance boss ever!!!
Poor Eranikus has been nerfed,
He used to be badass, used to be intimidating even to level 60s.
Now he's a pushover. Indeed, the entire instance is.
Hit my paladin (Ret spec, ret gear, level 49) for 150 to 220.
Solable by a level 70 rogue?
Hoping to be able to farm two
for lore/status reasons.
i HATED this instance, it's just like a maze with all the floors and pathways, but he drops a VERY nice sword..... if your lucky
I'm not trying to be offensive to the blizzard people or anything but what is with the dragon keeping on talking to me after i killed him? can anyone answer this?
It IS possible to off tank him with a rogue when the MT gets banished, with proper healing
Something I've not seen mentioned here is that, if you have a Paladin Tank (or any other Paladin prepared to stand in front of the boss and get hit in the name of group success) but no other form of Tank capable class, the banish mechanic in this encounter can be circumvented by using Divine Shield on oneself during the cast. For the second cast, Divine Protection can be used.
This works fairly well, and allowed my group to complete the encounter successfully, but tends to fall a little short if you allow the fight to drag on for too long (more then 2 casts). Additionally, if the ability is used while forbearance is up, you will also have to deal with a loose boss. Finally, the very short cast on this abillity means that you:
A) Must react very quickly to avoid it
B) Are prone to being caught during the GCD, when there is nothing you can do (this may not be an issue, I can't remember whether the shields are onthe GCD or not)
You must defeat Jammal'an the Prophet and the two drakes that spawn afterwards in order to fight Eranikus.
Just solo'd this guy as an 80 Holy Pally...
Easy enough, but I couldn't get my bubble-hearth off fast enough and I ended up being forced to fight the 50-80 dragonkin. Needless to say, within 3 min I was surrounded by a ton of corpses and was getting quite a bit of lag. Fun though...
Killed him with 5 x 51 ret pallies. I didnt saw him making the sleep debuff. I bursted him down pretty fast and I noticed the mobs from the big room "WALKED" instead of run into the Eranikus chamber. I hugged the wall and tried to HS in the hallway from with you enter but to my suprise they runned back to their posts after a while.
Duo'd as a Prot Paladin and shadow priest, both level 50 with decent gear.
After multiple wipes due to the pally being sleeped (can't remove with dispel magic) and the priest not able to last 12+ seconds, new tactic was pally tanks and priest stays at max range dots on eranikus, then run out down the corridor - BEFORE he slumbers the tank, while a cheap tactic perhaps, it did give slumber enough time to wear off, in which eranikus aggro'd straight back to the tank.
It took a while due to only the tank dps'ing with the occasional dot, but its the happy ending that counts.
Just remember to dot up and run out before eranikus slumbers, so you have enough lead, this was our reason for demise in the first few attempts.
All in all great fun with only the two of us.
Soloed as Retri Paladin lvl48. Got some heirlooms and half blue/half green gear and 1hander+shield. Also for sidenote, I hadn't bought lvl48 skills yet 'cos dinged from 47 to 48 on there.
While it does sleep me, I'm immune to all dmg so it doesn't bother much (unless interrupted heal with it). Just keep Judging and healing yourself and should be fine. Used Art of War procs for instant FoLs mainly. I had to use bubble because it stunned/interrupted one important Holy Light but survived without using LoH. I eneded up killing it with ~90% hp (~3k max) and 40% mana (~2k max).
I didn't kill trash alone, might be problem for ret pally. Maybe prot pally could handle trash a bit better ^^
Paladin soloing capability is insane imo., this just strengthens my believe on it.
hey,how to summon shade of Eranikus?ty
Tanked this guy for half the fight as a lvl 50 affli warlock, just using drain life. I was never close to dying.
Think this says something about how easy Eranikus is nowadays. I remember in Vanilla when wiping 2 times or more was to be expected in a PuG.
I bumped into this guy whilst i was Soloing the dungeon as a level 72 mage to complete some old quests. but he was just sleeping there and i could not attack him. there were no other mobs in the room. just this guy on his own and i could not attack because he was an invalid target. even though he was aggressive red. do i have to find and kill this prophet guy first?
Just wanted to point out that his eyes are always closed, indicating that he is mentally in the Emerald Dream. You can also notice that he is ghostly, similar to Ysera. I'm assuming he's being corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare.
Just solo'd this as a level 80 DK, and while it did take a while to get through, there is something fun you can do at the end. Instead of taking the mobs in the big room out, go through and stomp Eranikus and wait till they all finish piling in and use Army of the Dead and Death and Decay and watch the hilarity ensue as a giant green mob runs around the room. ^_^
I don't know why there's no map for this boss, but he's in the southeastern most area, green on the map, "Chamber of the Dreamer".
For some reason when I killed him not a single mob from the big room aggroed -- they just stayed where they were.
The Shade of Eranikus is back up to 55 (Elite)
need to clear all the trash before engaging this boss. The only additional adds he will pull are his four children, the miniboss dragons.
Managed to solo him (and the rest of the instance) as a level 54 hunter. I don't think he'd be possible unless you have full heirlooms though. I was using a turtle tank, BM spec obviously. Just send the pet in, activate Bestial Wrath, and both you and your pet can go all out with no problem.
It took me a few wipes to figure out how to deal with the sleep spell. I tried simply using Aspect of the Cheetah and running away shortly before he cast it, but that didn't work, as it ended up with my pet being out of range, and dying eventually.
Then I changed tactic. It's easy really, just as soon as he sleeps your pet, feign death. He'll continue trying to hit your pet despite it being immune, and you can stand back up again. As long as you don't do anything, he will not reagro on you, and then your pet can pick him up again when the sleep wears off.
EDIT: Typos, because I did this at stupid-o'-clock.
Shade of Eranikus yells:
This evil cannot be allowed to enter this world! Come my children!
I soloed this (and the whole instance) as a level 58 Blood Death Knight in the Starter Zone gear.
All you have to do is stand there, get near your Bloodworms, and use Death Strike, Vampiric Blood, Rune Tap, and potions whenever you can. He dies in about 3 minutes.
Note: I did Jammal'an as unholy.
Thank you for sacrificing yourself for the greater good Eranikus, your sacrifices were not in vain. You will be missed :(
Hold on, wasn't this guy purified during the AQ quest chain?
Shade of Eranikus is unattackable until you kill
