I snuck in after the patch and wandered around the zone. It turns out this guy is soloable - at least by a reasonably geared resto druid, which should tell you something about other classes ability to kill it solo. :-)
If you stand on the ledge to the left (facing the mob) you can trade ranged fire with it and eventually kill it out of range of any other wandering mobs, assuming you can mitigate/heal the damage it dishes out (about 6K every 3-5 seconds, not that bad).
It only had some gold (6.something) this time, but theoretically the trash mobs drop crafting patterns, so it might be worth the effort if you aren't already doing the zone in a regular raid.
I was exploring after my raid and I found this mob and thought it looked out of place and interesting with its large health pool of 7.7mil so I got a healer from general chat and we took it down in like 10 mins and dropped. Gooood stuff, EASILY duoable, probably soloable from some ranged dps, as an ele sham I could solo it to 40% but I went oom from self healing.
This thing melee'd me, a feral tank, for 125k. Even if you CAN heal over the lava, don't bother sending your melee to DPS it unless you're sure they won't get aggro!
It is possible to get to this mob without invisibility/stealth. I have soloed it few times on my shadow priest without any problems.
We tryed kill him and ... we founded first epic in the day -
spell power dagger :)
Soloed as a BM Hunter with a spirit beast healing itself to help with aggro. Just kept the pet on passive next to myself and the mob never targeted me.
Sadly it didn't give any rep past 5999 Friendly.
Here is a way to solo him as a Marksman Hunter without respeccing or reglyphing your raid/pvp spec (yes we can also do this)
Step 1: General Combat
Place yourself within scatter shot range, but not close enough for him to melee attack you (instant death). What you do is dps him + use Chimera Shot on every single cooldown and rotate Silencing Shot + Scatter Shot to interrupt his casts. When your ready to bandage yourself (bandage debuff wears off), you use the bandage straight after a silencing or scatter shot for a full duration bandage heal (3sec Silence/4sec Scatter + 3sec cast + missile travel time).
This will keep you alive for a very very long time if you have a decent HP pool as the chimera shot heal is 5% of your max HP, 7.5% on a crit.
Step 2: The recovery
Once you get low on HP (20-30% for example), you stop dps so that your piercing shots dot wears off. At this point you have NO dots on the target, so its time to Cast trap Launcher + Freezing Trap. This provides a 60sec CC that you can reapply for aslong as you need to reach 100% HP with bandages etc.
Step 3: Rinse and Repeat!
use Serpent Sting(this will break your CC + your self heal refreshes it's duration so it's not worth using)
I recommend making macros for chimera shot, silencing shot, trap launcher, scatter shot and freezing trap that have 3 "/stopcasting" lines in them. It will make your abilities ALOT more responsive, as timing is key here.
I didn't say it would be easy, but it's possible.
Please rate my comment if you find it useful =)
Killed him at my Destro lock. At some point I've runned out of hp so I've left my imp and Felguard dpsing the guy and stepped back till I got out of range and aggro. After restoring the hp by healthstone and pot - returned to fight. Easy solo for ranged.
Easy soloed as shadow priest with decent gear, vampiric embrace ftw.
Killed him 7 times and nothing except few golds dropped.
I solo'd this as an Arcane mage.. and it's rather easy. When you walk up to him, go to the ledge on the left. (You will have to jump over some rocks.. kinda difficult.) And there's a soft spot somewhere on that ledge that you can LOS him when he does his attacks. Lava Shower you dont have to worry about, it cant hit you. But when he does Lava Burst, simply back up a few steps and his cast will fail. Walk right back up and continue shooting. It takes a bit of experimenting at first to find just where the nice LOS point is.
-I took a hit from maybe 1 Lava Burst. <.<
If any skinners have tagged along on a FL trash run that has downed this NPC, you know that this particular mob, after being looted,
skinnable. Last night I was in a PUG trash run, we came across this mob and decided to kill/loot it. I noticed it was skinnable, and we set off tryng to skin it (Only took about 2 or 3 minutes to get it right).
First, get over to the closest ledge to it by jumping over the little wall of rock that is in the way (this can be done by jumping behind the pillar, using it as a platform and jumping up and over the rocks). Next, have a Paladin and a Priest ready. Have the Priest use levitate and the paladin use Hand of Protection. um down (t actually jump, if you jump you will fly to far away from the mob to skin it due to Levitate)
I had to click 4 or 5 times because the lava interupted the skinning process, however there was a few second window that I did not get hurt and BAM, I had skinned the Ancient Lava Burster.
He only dropped Savage leather. He dropped 5 peices for me, but I also have the guild perk Bountiful Bags, which increases the amount of materials you get from gathering professions.
P.S:: The levitate ability might not actually be necessary. And come to think of it, someone might just wanna try it solo. The window of time in between each hit from the lava once you jump in might be long enough to be able to skin the burster. *NOT TESTED*
- Glac from Dragonblight, horde side.
Killed him now about 7 times and he only dropped gold and once a green item and once a a grey item.
Looks like the epics aren't that high.
Anyway, its very easy soloable with almost every casterclass. takes about 5-10 minutes.
Easily soloable as a shadow priest. Vamp. embrace for the most part will keep you going for a good while.
Few good tips to go by:
2/2 Masochism. Use Shadow Word: death whenever it's off CD.
About 6 yards (maybe more) away from the ledge you can still cast and dot (he can target you too)
This spot lets you keep casting until his Lava Spit is 4/5 finish allowing you to easily straff out of sight. (This also applies to practically any other ranged as well)
It's a long fight so use you mana tools wisely and accordingly. You can easily keep the fight going without taking any breaks at all to regen mana.
Your shield helps out a lot :P
Don't worry about getting hit by his cast, allow him to get you down to roughly 30-40% hp before you start Line of Sighting his attacks. Use this time to replenish your HP via Vamp. Embrace and repeat.
Hope this helps anyone out there confused about this fight. Extremely easy after you get the hang of it.
well, the hardest thing on this "encounter" seems to be the looting itself :P or it is just me who dies while looting him?
As of Friday, July 22nd, it is worth noting that this fellow can still drop epics. I've killed him perhaps a dozen times today, and just received an Apparatus of Khaz'goroth.
I mention this mostly because Wowhead has so few recorded kills on here. They changed it so you can't Loot-a-rang the corpse, but didn't change his loot table. Silly Blizzard.
Today I tried to solo it with my Warlock, it is realy easy due to life drain and life tap and the ocacionaly health stone, (also remeber to have your Demon Armor on), you can do 10k DPS and stay alive
killed it in about 15 minutes
. I thinks it could be easy to shadow priest also.
It takes some time to find a good way to get to the mob alive
I killed it 3 times and only dorped crap, i don't trust a lot the drop rate 13% sounds high, stadisticaly you should get some drop after killing it 10 times.
About looting, Demonic Portal make that part easy
It might be worth noting it has the same amount of health on 25m as 10m.
I'm not sure if it changes the loot table drop rates though as it does for the other trash
Had a great time killing this guy just now.
Took me 40 minutes as a resto shaman.
I kill 20x this moob and 0 grey, 0 green, 0 blue, 0 epic...............hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Killed this guy 5 times with my pvp geared shadow priest. It's an easy solo.
All you have to do is manage mana cd's. usually got around 5-10g each kill. No epics, however I did get a lockbox.
Has anyone tried farming this guy since the trash mob changes? He is still solo-able, I've done it a few times, takes me around 5 minutes to kill him, but I've gotten no loot. Any other folks been trying off this guy? Cheers.
Just solo'd as a resto druid 365 ilvl...took about 45min give or take...no loot =(
Does not drop loot at all anymore.
