These cats patrol the Temple of Bethekk section of the level 85 version of Zul'Gurub. The
mobs asleep in the basement around
are a different NPC id.
Both NPCs share the same appearance: a black-furred cat that uses the crouched/glowing eyes tiger model. It's the same appearance as the
in Ulduar. This one can be tamed, the other version by the boss cannot.
2 Survival Hunters
OK so this cat is tamable without a group so long as you have an item level above 346 (to get into the instance, level 2 heroic). I had another HUNTER assist me, though there are certainly many other combinations that would probably work just as well. These mobs were IMMUNE to our traps. No idea if this will change but forget freezing them.
My Hunter friend and I stealthed up to the Temple of Bethekk and went to the right side all the way to the back. Once there, we waited until the troll with his 2 cats patrolled back towards us again, then:
---->I wyvern shot the Troll
----> Hunter #2 wyverned one of the cats
---->I started my tame the instant i got my wyvern shot off so that it was casting the entire time the cat(s) were running towards us.
With only one elite mob attacking me I was able to live long enough to tame by using a haste pot.
THIS IS NOT A TAME FOR THE SHEEPISH lol. Your timing has to be perfect or you might as well get up a group to do it. After I tamed my cat we re-shot the Troll and the other Hunter tamed the other cat. Tah-dah!
-Wombat, Sen'jin Realm
I solo-tamed this beauty as a BM hunter - (not that the spec makes any diffrends:)
After entering the dungeon, i camouflaged and went to the left of the entrance.
There is only one patrol you need to be carefull with on your way to the building and thats the to raptors wandering around just after u crossed the river, stay close behind them and go around the corner just as they are about to turn around. After that you might wanna take a moment on a safe spot to re-apply your camouflage.
You can easylie sneak past the huge mask at the gate. When u then enter the building and get down to the first ledge, u will see a single troll patroling with two of these cats. I took a food buff granding me an extra 90stam just in case.
When your set and ready, camouflage again and take one of the cats as your target. Trap-launch freezing trap on the troll as close to them as possible, wait for the cats to attack you and then pop deterrence and tame.
On my first try i died cos i popped deterrence to earlie, sinse you will have both cats on you at the same time while taming you wanna throw it as late as possible but before they hit you. If you can see the attempt is gonna fail, fein death and try again. I also died on second attempt but i got the cat 2seconds before it happend^^ so If you time it right its totally duable.
I hope this has been usefull info for you to catch this pretty kitten
Gl and happy hunting
you were very helpful thank you i got him on 3rd try just by following your directions then went onto getting him for a friedn to :) thx u were awsome:P
Mine is stuck in prowl even if I turn it off. The only way I can get him out is to let him die and res him, but if I use prowl again, he's stuck in it.
How to Solo Tame: Pride of Bethekk
Step 1. Start heading into Zul'Gurub and go East on the rocks be sure not to get too close to the water or the fish will eat you. After you hit the first
Curious Jungle Monkey
next to the wall you will hit
Aspect of the Cheetah
. Run up the side of the wall *While Hugging it* at all times. Until you hit the point when you see
you will begin running on the road continue doing this until you begin seeing
in which you must stay VERY close in the middle of the road or you will be agro'd and gang banged by those adders. After you pass the adders you will see
Tiki Lord Zim'wae
blocking the path. You will simply stay in Camouflage and hug the wall.
Step 2. After you pass Zim'wae the hardest part remains, taming the Pride of Bethekk itself, run up the ramp until you see a
Gurubashi Shadow Hunter
to the North West Ledge. Freezing Trap him, run past him until you see the Western Edge where the Pride of Bethekks and Gurubashi Shadow Hunter patrols. Jump down there and
. This is by far the hardest part. Wait for your Feign Death to reach 0 on its Cooldown and wait for the Patrol. NOTE: BE SURE
Freezing Trap - Trap Launcher
is not on a Cooldown. Use
if you are a troll) then Freeze the Shadow Hunter. Quickly use Deterrence and tame one of the Prides. They hit like trucks and will easily kill you if you do not do this correctly.
Pro Tip: Don't be upset if you die more than once on this. I died 3 times before I got mine. This is all about timing and luck because each Pride hits for approx. 15-24k A hit. So stack Stam & Haste if possible.
~ Good luck and have fun with this Amazing Cat!
Lazurianis Level 85 Hunter, Lightbringer
As a BM taming this sweet cat is really easy:
Mount up and head left of the entrance. Jump on the rocks. A shredtooth will attack you. Once you reach the other side of the small lake, feign death. Wait in front of the next group until the bloodrager pat comes along. when they turn around, hit camo and cheetah and follow them.Step right on the planks and wait for them to return and pass by. Now head right and walk to the mask. Hit camo again and walk up the ramp until the third pillar.
Now you pull out your Corehound and wait for the pat containing the pride of Bethekk to run out of sight. Traplaunch your freezing trap in the path of the pat, hit ancient hysteria, dismiss the core hound and hit rapid fire. Once the troll triggers the trap, start taming.
I did that as an itemlevel 355 Hunter without rapid fire, deterrance and haste/stamina/w/e potions and survived with 50k hp first try.
You can obviously use any of those means to decrease difficulty or randomness.
that strat went perfect! thank you so much. got it first try.
There are perhaps many ways to tame this cat but after much frustration I found that doing it with a group of guildies/friends was the most feasible. In any case, this cat can and will kill you if you don't do something to keep it away from you while taming it.
Easy to Tame with Guild Group
1. With a full 5-man group, make your way over to the Temple of Bethekk in ZG.
Tip: Its even better if you do this in a finished instance, as there is less game content to deal with
2. Clear the trash mobs at the top of the stairs on the left side.
3. Engage the group of three mobs patting on the left side of the stairs at the bottom, which includes a troll and two cats. Kill the troll and one of the cats. Let the third cat (about to be your new pet) kill everyone, while you feign death in a safe spot a good distance away.
Tip: The reason for this is, we found that since the cat cannot be cc'd and if there are other players in the instance with you the cat will inevitably go after one of the other players each time your tame beast gets to about 25% remaining.
4. Shoot down a slow trap at the bottom of the stairs.
5. Position yourself at the top of the stairs to the left, about where the trash mobs that you killed in step three were.
6. When the remaining cat pats back around shoot it once to aggro it.
7. As soon as its aggro'd pop every speed ability you have, including an old school haste pot if you have one.
8. As soon as you can, begin taming the cat. If you did the previous steps correctly the cat will be yours by the time it reaches you. :)
Tip: Ask your friends not to release. This way they can act as spotters for you.
Tip: Be sure feign death is available in case you fail.
Grats! You now have a wicked awesome black cat with glowing red eyes!
Hope this helps,
I used a combination of strategies listed here. I had tried taming one during a pull using distracting shot, but I did not keep aggro long enough and kept losing the tame cast. After the group cleared the instance I came back to the entrance of the temple and used one of the patrols along the side for my tame. Here is how I did it:
As a side note, I did this as BM so I could have my core hound use Ancient Hysteria for added speed, but I forgot rapid fire. This means RF can be used instead and you won't need to go BM with a core hound.
First, I set a freezing trap down where the troll would path to, then popped ancient hysteria and dismissed my core hound. Once the trap went off, I waited until both cats were about to attack me and popped deterrance. Immediately hit tame after detterance and you should have enough time to have a successful tame. I did die pretty much exactly when the tame finished, but I checked my call pet roster and I did get the cat. It could have been unlucky RNG, or it could have been lucky RNG that I might have not gotten the tame off otherwise. Just use everything you have to speed your cast and it should not be too hard.
Tamed one of these on my hunter a while ago, and still not seen anyone else with it.
The rare spawns like Skarr and Sambas seem to be alot more common among Hunters.
Solo tamed this as a survival hunter. Camo'd my way into the temple, freezing trap on the troll, wyvern sting on the other cat, deterrence and tamed. Feigned after, let the mobs kill the pet, got up, revived pet, hearthed out. This is really easy now that you can apply crowd control without aggroing.
I've just helped a hunter get his cat:
As a druid tank, I popped into bear form and soloed one of the patrols outside the temple. Quite easy to do, just remember to stun, throw on some Barkskin, Frenzied Regeneration, and don't pull any of the poisonous plants.
Leave only one panther alive.
Pull a poisonous plant and let yourself die.
Have the hunter approach and tame the remaining panther. It shouldn't take more than 65 K health before it is tamed, even at close range.
Here is how i have timed one of these 5mins ago, went to the left side of the building all the way to the back to see what is their patrol route, then i have trapped the shadow hunter and at that moment both cats stopped patrolling, i went is far as my tame beast allows it, poped rapid fire + deterrence and started taming, when i tamed one the cat's i just used feign death (had around 50-60k health remaining out of the total 125k) then i got up dismissed the pet used shodowmeld and hs'ed to stormwind :)
just got one of these kittys by getting a fellow hunter to help me (who also wanted one) sneaked to the front of the temple with the troll and 2 cat patrol, ice trapped the troll, cast deterrence and then tamed one kitty each, much easier than solo tank/taming :)
Ever since I first saw these kitties I have wanted to tame one. I actually prefer their look over Skarr's but after reading up on them I was feeling like Skarr might actually be the easier tame.
I finally got my hunter over iLevel 346 today and the first thing on my mind was taming one of these guys. I googled them to bring up this page to re-read over people's suggestions and I happened to spot this youtube video as well - youtu.be/zWIqVYLndTM I *strongly* suggest watching this a couple of times before setting out for the tame. I was expecting to die at least a couple of times, maybe even fail miserably, but following that video I got into the dungeon and out with my new cat in less than five minutes. I did die at the very end but once the tame had completed but that was to be expected.
