The fight bears similarities to the Bloodlord's previous incarnation in the raid instance.
Mandokir, currently the second boss of Zul'Gurub after his resurrection, has moved to an arena-like floor before his older location.
is an accurate map pointing to his current location.
On the borders of the arena, in which the fight takes place now, eight
are situated. Whenever a person in the group dies, the spirit will fly to the dead person and resurrect them with full health and mana, killing itself in the process. When the dead person comes back to life, they will receive a temporary empowerment. This mechanic is closely tied to another new Mandokir's ability -
The Bloodlord will randomly charge people in the group,
instantly killing them on the spot
(the tooltip of the ability says that it inflicts seventeen million Physical damage). This ability cannot be outranged, whether the target hugs the boss or is located on a distance, they will die regardless. The person who dies from Decapitate does not get durability damage.
Each group member's death fuels Mandokir's strength. Once a party member dies, Mandokir will "level up". He will gain a stacking buff which increases his size and damage dealt by 20%.
Mandokir starts the fight mounted on Ohgan, but dismounts it to cast another of his new abilities -
. It's a frontal cone ability, which instantly kills everyone who didn't manage to get away in time. When he starts to cast it, each group member will get a warning saying "Bloodlord Mandokir beings to cast Devastating Slam!", and the ground will start rumbling in the place the Devastating Slam is going to hit.
When he starts casting Devastating Slam for the first time he will dismount his raptor, and sic him on the spirits. When the raptor becomes targetable, all DPS should switch from Mandokir to Ohgan and kill him ASAP, because if he's allowed to kill the spirits, people will not be able to resurrect. Ohgan is susceptible to slowing effects and stuns. The Bloodlord will periodically resurrect him, and DPS must always prioritize Ohgan to Mandokir.
When Mandokir hits 20%, he will go into an undispellable Frenzy which increases his attack speed by 100% and decreases the cooldown on Decapitate, so he should be brought down quickly.
I have an enhancement shaman onto the ptr which was very useful as the talent
rooted Ohgan and slowed the spirit killing which made the fight easier. Also he was immune to the druid's
. The idea of the whole fight is 1 person needs to root the dinosaur while the rest nuke the boss as the Chained Spirits will die slower and that means more scripted resses from the Chained Spirits when you get killed by the Bloodlord's Decapitate (see Elireyn's comment) which make the encounter way easier.
This encounter was much easier than High Priest, and appeared to me as a simple tank & spank (I was the tank). You just kill the undead raptor add when it slowly starts making it's way towards someone & get away from the boss when he does devastating slam. At least once or twice, I made it pretty much to the other side of the arena when his slam went off, so you have enough time gtfo of the way.
Make peace, worms. I be deliverin' you to
Off with ya head.
Head's gonna roll.
Ha ha ha! Is that all you got?
Your broken body belongs to Hakkar.
Fall to my feet. Fall to Mandokir, the bloodlord!
Hey! Grats, mon!
Go an' get dem,
! We WON'T be fooled again!
Rise, Ohgan! Rise, and fight for your master!
My blood feeds Hakkar! My soul... feeds... Jin'do!

Any way to avoid Bloodletting, or only healing over?
Around the "arena" that Mandokir is standing in, you'll find a couple big trolls. While you don't necessarily need to kill these trolls prior to engaging Mandokir, we found that it's surprisingly easy to accidentally aggro them during the fight if they're not dispatched. Given the availability of the white cauldron just outside Mandokir's ring, they're easily taken care of. Better to take a moment to get rid of these guys than have to worry about them during the fight.
Because of the way
works, essentially sapping half of a player's life every 2 seconds, healers will need to show restraint and
heal the target until the spell is over. Healing during the spell just leads to more damage being taken and wasted mana. That said, it's doubtful that this fight will last long enough for mana conservation to be an issue - it's a DPS race, not a long, drawn-out battle.
is very easy to see, but it seems to be cast in a random direction (it didn't always seem to point at our tank) and it is a fairly wide cone. That means that, if you're standing well back from Mandokir and you happen to be in the middle of the cone, you might have a very hard time getting out of it before it goes off. Staying a bit closer to Mandokir trivializes this mechanic as the cone will be so small where you are that it's easy to step out of. This spell will one-shot anyone caught in it so, if people aren't able to get out of it in time, you can easily use 2 or 3 of your resurrections on an easily-avoidable power.
Can anybody confirm whether or not decapitate causes durability damage to your armor?
Is there ever any reason to bother curing anyone who gets bloodletting? As far as I've experienced the only damage non-tanks take is decapitate and ground slam, which would kill them anyway.
Go an' get dem, Ohgan! We WON'T be fooled again!
This is a reference to the old Zul'Gurub raid instance, where, just as in this encounter, you were resurrected by the spirits. Only now, his mount/pet Ohgan tries to kill the spirits so players are no longer resurrected infinitely! Hence Mandokir not being fooled again.
right before he casts
Enjoy, working as of 4.1
This is likely bugged and will be fixed since this is not how the ability is meant to work.
This may be obvious to others but wasn't to me.
Do not use Hand of Sacrifice. If the person that sacrifice is on gets decapitated you will too, and you may not get rezzed.
I found this the hard way.
Though based on reading some of the comments there is no reason to use it and isn't that much you should actually be healing through in the first place.
On my healer I try to not put DPS up over 25% of their health, and I also let the tank ride low around 50-60% early in the fight when Mandokir has not yet stacked too many levels to deal threatening damage. With the tank it's a "feel it out" thing, because I don't want to suddenly get gibbed with decapitate, and have the tank fall out while I get a res.
I then proceed to add my little bit of DPS to the boss because I'm not really doing much else, and the fight is not mana intense (especially if you get decapitated as a caster, since you come back full mana)
I've gotten chewed out a few times by players for "being fail and not healing" but when it's explained why they usually shut up and let me go with it. The less health they have when they get bloodletting, the less the boss heals himself. As long as the player is a bit above 20k health they will not die to bloodletting. There's no concern about anything else killing your party members because you didn't heal them enough, since everything else is a guaranteed 1 shot.
I think a fight like this is great for teaching healers control, and not just spamming everyone to full. This sort of mentality comes in useful when facing Chimaeron at raid level content.
As disc, my shield does absorb ticks from the bloodletting but I don't know if it stops his healing from it. I don't run atonement but it might be useful for what I do in this fight. Granted, you'll uncontrollably be healing players you may not want to while you DPS.
"A minimum of 2500 health will be leeched". So yes. You'll want to keep DPS and heals above 12500 (2500 x 5 ticks) at the least to avoid them dying to Bloodletting, but not much more than that.
No! It can't be!
does higher damage than
This must be an error! An error, i say!
Nerf this ability to the ground, Blizzard! You
want to make Saurfang see this! He'll get bored (or even worse, angry) and cleave the entire Blizzard department before going to Zul'Gurub and cleave Mandokir himself!
And then how would we enjoy playing the game? :-(
Actually if the ability removes 50% current health, a player at 12500 will die by the fourth tick.
12500 (0) -> 6250 (1) -> 3125 (2) -> 625 (3) -> 0 (4)
To be precise 40016 is the limit.
40016 (0) -> 20008 (1) -> 10004 (2) -> 5002 (3) -> 2501 (4) -> 1 (5)
This is assuming the ability's damage is true and bypasses possibly damage reduction talents, abilities, or buffs, and actually ticks 5 times.
If you were interested in really min-maxing, though, you would probably want to leave people at low HP and just place a HoT on them to tick between the damage ticks, completely minimizing the amount of health sapped, effectively keeping them anywhere above 2500 which would result in a fatality.
Your math is wrong, half of 3125 is 1562
You missed the minimum of 2500 part of the skill :)
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet. When you die and get resurrected, you get the debuff
. This increases your effectiveness by a large margin.
For this reason, it's best to save your cooldowns until AFTER you get decapitated once (possibly twice, if you're the first to go!). Personally, on my arcane mage, I'll pretend I'm in a burn phase and burn my mana as fast as possible, and hope I get decapitated either during, or shortly after. Obviously, keep enough mana to handle Ohgan. Then, once I'm back up, it's gem/trinket/AP/MI and blow him up.
At least we know why it took so long for them to release the instance. They were stuck waiting for this boss to finally find and solve his sword.
My WoW sometimes freezes or disconnects when he casts decapitate. The problem persists even when all addons are disabled. I've been looking into this problem recently.
They are people reporting this bug on us.battle.net, but I don't see any official reply.
From the healer's perspective:
Easiest fight in the instance. Just don't let anyone die of normal causes. This is fairly easy because each time you die and get rezzed, you get your entire mana stack back, so don't be afraid to spam the heck out of your big heals.
What goes wrong: Really, nothing. Well, nothing you can do anything about. If the party doesn't have any slowdown/snares, you can help with that. Bloodletting killing off people is about the only other thing that will cause you grief.
What to do: Bloodletting isn't a big deal, it focuses on the target's *current* health . Just be sure to wait until the spell is finished (in all but the worst cases) before starting your heal. No point in healing him if half of what you put in the debuff takes out.
Just discovered recently that the mage talent
will save you from Decapitate. It will save a spirit for another resurrection and forestall Mandokir's
One of the few bosses in WoW that can decapitate you. Twice.
Heads gonna roll.
During the fight you will most likely be killed and loss whatever temporary and consumable, so I suggest that you wait until after the fight to take food or potion buffs. Also, if you are eating the floor once the fight ends,
the spirits will vanish, and you will not be returned to life.
This is only a minor annoyance, but its a bit of a boner when you have not way of being revived after the Bloodlord is down and out.
He drops Swift Razzashi Raptor , must be very rare dropped on my 48th Zul'gurub and its the only one ive seen drop .
If you are decapitated, resurrected by a chained spirit, and do not accept the resurrection until after the fight is over, you will keep the spirit's vengeance debuff throughout the instance until you die again.
Wait, this guy violently decapitates people, and every time he does he gains more power? Is this guy a immortal from the movie Highlander?
has anyone tried soloing this boss to see if he would still use decapitate?
For all the mount farmers out there: You can two man this boss, me as a bear and a shadow priest friend did it. Be just careful to kill Oghan ASAP, and since its more likely for the dps and not the tank to get decapitated (from what I have always seen anyway), the dpsing one of you will get the stacking buff that will increase his dmg with 10% per stack, making it easy to beat the enrage.
I reccomend waiting with popping CD's until he has 80% increased dmg and than when he goes into frenzy at 20% (I used barkskin on the first one, and Frenzied Regen + Survival Instincts on the second one, but he still did significant damage to me when frenzied).
The non tanking person HAS TO pop Dispersion/something big when the tank gets decapitated, you are likely to get mashed otherwise while the tank is ressing.
Bloodletting can almost be completely ignored, just cast a flash heal as it is coming to an end and your health is very low.
Happy Mount Farming, and may the RNG Gods be ever in Your Favour!
Having all this, you will be
Can be soloed by a hunter. :)
Fairly trivial to solo as a prot paladin. Pick
for maximum burst, and
for extra physical damage reduction. Any gear will do fine, but its recommended to have a lot of mastery, since it has the greatest effect on AP gained.
is your best friend here, due to the huge mastery boost that is almost guaranteed to proc when you need it.
Pull the boss, using a stopwatch (/sw) is recommended so you know when decapitate is coming (it is exactly 10 seconds in).
A few seconds before it happens, mash every single cooldown you got and use
. If done correctly, you will go down to 15% health due to
and gain several hundred thousand AP, depending on how much mastery you had. The boss shouldn't last long after that. If you don't have enough damage and second impale is imminent (DBM timer should show it, it comes about 35 seconds after the first one), use
The following macro is helpful (feel free to add any trinkets/potions):
/cast Divine Protection
/cast Ardent Defender
/cast Guardian of Ancient Kings
/cast Avenging Wrath
/cast Holy Avenger
Here's a video, featuring some extreme mastery stacking and an epic (non) crit:
Edit: one of the vengeance hotfixes drastically reduced the amount of AP gained from special abilities, so absorbing a full decapitate only gives me ~600k AP, instead of 4kk+ it used to give.
i believe his decapitate ability ignores armor.
ran in without popping any cds on a 90 prot warrior with 25% reduction from defensive stance, and 52.78% reduction from armor. still got hit for 11,408,644. which is 75% of 15.211525 million.
so with that in mind, shield wall glyphed (60%) plus defensive stance (25%), demo shout (20%) plus demo banner (10%) plus thunder clap (10%) can only get you about 80.56% damage reduction.
or .4 * .75 * .8 * .9 * .9 = .1944 of 15,000,000 is 2,916,000.
we would need probably over 95% reduction to survive. (that's a 750k hit.)
reply if you can find any tier sets or trinkets that could give us some extra reduction or % absorbtion.
edit: forgot about weakened blows / thunderclap.
For all those wondering if monks can solo it: Yes.
They can, and its fairly easy. You'll need the following talents:
isn't required, but you may find it helpful if you're having trouble surviving Bloodletting.
Pull him normally. Immediately after pulling him, hit him Keg Smash, Invoke Xuen, and then use Fortifying Brew. Xuen will taunt the boss and pull off you. Now get some distance (one roll is fine, you just don't want him to accidentally hit you and break Zen) and use Dampen Harm and Zen Meditation, and use the chi you built up from Keg Smash to Guard (Not technically necessary, but helps reduce the damage further).
Despite Zen Meditation breaking immediately upon taking damage from his Decapitate, it still drops the hit's damage by 90%. This, combined with the other cooldowns, reduce the damage he does enough to survive it easily. He hits me for about 170k (220k if you count the damage absorbed by Guard), with ~120k stagger. Purify your stagger and start swinging around 600k keg smashes and such thanks to vengeance, and he goes down fast.
This tactic does not require any consumables or exceptional gear (I'm at 459, but you could probably do it easily with a fair bit less).
EDIT: As of patch 5.4, in 539 gear, it is better off to just maintain aggro and use DPS CDs and burn him down, pet doesn't need to tank. Killed him in 15 seconds.
Another Edit: If you really think you can, I pet tanked and still managed to kill him today before he even got a chance to cast decapitate, in 561 gear, kill took 8 seconds.
105 kills and still no mount.
FINAL EDIT: Got it after 145 kills. Truly a beauty and worth the effort.
Old text here for nostalgic purposes:
I have soloed this boss with a BM hunter in 472 lfr gear.
The key to the fight is to place a snake trap ON bloodlord mandokir about 5 seconds before he uses decepitation, so that the fight does not reset while you are being ressurected.
Other than that, the fight goes normally with you pet tanking (I used a tenacity specced corehound)
I reccomend using your CDs after you get decepitated atleast once, so that you may stack it with the damage and health increasing buff.
I would also reccomend using feign death whenever he uses bloodletting, it prevents damage and him healing himself.
Due to your deaths from decepitate, then the addon DBM is useless, because it does not know how to react to your deaths. If you can do a good amount of dps, then once he reaches 20%, you can just dps since he uses decepitation less.
Goodluck to all mount farmers out there!
EDIT: As of 5.3, if you have your pet out he will only Decapitate you ONE TIME. After that, you can just dps, and not worry about the decapitates, as he will not cast it anymore. No need to even kill Ohgan anymore, as you will not die from decapitate.
As a 470 BM Hunter:
The fight is a pain.. It takes a lot of RNG. but after you know what you are doing, the fight becomes so easy... It will irritate you the first few times but don't worry.. you will one shot daily after you get used to it.
DBM won't help you on this one.. As soon as you die it stops tracking anything..
: CD is
seconds right on the line no less/no more. The ones below saying at around 25 seconds are 'wrong'. From the moment he jumps towards you; the timer starts ticking . To have a
stopwatch in game type in gamechat /sw
a little watch will show up.. Just press start when he jumps at you and stop/start it as soon as he kills you so the stopwatch starts going again.
: Chances are it will screw your run up; as your pet will be jumping back and forth between Mandokir & Ohgan If you use it while Ohgan is running around of course. And he will jump around Mandokir too if he is by himself. He could miss the snake trap so be cautious! I personally don't use this, not worth the run back and wasting more time.
: Same as the above case. Might make mandokir miss trap if he attacks the summoned beast and moves around. Be careful. Use trap when you are sure he has stopped moving, I don't use this either.
As mentioned below. As a hunter you can
and the debuff will go away. It will still take your health away but he will stop healing himself.
Everytime you get ress.. You get an increase dmg debuff and decrease dmg taken, it stacks everytime you're decapitated.. So save your Cds maybe for when you have 2 or 3 stacks on you.
Keep your pet as "DEFENSIVE" if you keep it as aggressive it will attack the raptor as soon as you do so. this will make your pet follow Ohgan and most of the times you would have to drop a trap shortly after. You can't have Mandokir running around like that following your pet towards Ohgan. Make a macro for your pet to attack mandokir everytime you summon him after you are rezzed.
Thanks to comment below. There is a change of having Ohgan despawn for the rest of the fight. To pull this off you need kill the raptor exactly at the same time as he kills one of the
. If that happens he will simply vanish and won't be summoned again making the trivial fight so much easier.. I did it today so this one is "
" This is an option but if you are used to the fight you don't really have to.. It's very easy if you follow my tips.
Soloed as a Retribution Paladin doing 150K DPS. Didn't do anything special outside of bubbling at 0:09 seconds into the pull (when he casts his first Decapitate) and killed him in a total of 29 seconds. Wasn't using any consumables or anything.
I farmed this boss everyday ever since I started mount farming.
I have killed him solo using these toons. Also I've indicated some tips on what I did for my runs.
Level 85 Blood Death Knight
- Twinked with 415+ gears spec'd with Purgatory
= 250k decapitate hit. Healable with 2 Death Siphons healing around 150k each.
Level 90 Feral Druid
- (I use my friend's Paladin to sit on the entrance, casting Symbiosis will give Feral Druids -- Divine Shield) Bubble at 0:09, then burst him down. Will need gear to burst down 4.5mil within 40 seconds. I also used a 4k agi potion to boost my dps.
Level 90 Brewmaster Monk
- Already mentioned on previous comments on what to do. Xuen is necessary so that he will taunt Mandokir, thus not breaking your Zen Meditation when you are channeling it.
I usually hit some of the Neutral mobs that has 100k+ Hp so that I start with 5 Chi.
I open with 2 blackout kicks for 12 second stagger > Keg Smash > Blackout Kick for another Stagger > Xuen > Fort Brew > Dampen Harm > Zen Meditation > Wait for Decapitate > Expel Harm > Purifying Brew. After this just burst him down, you'll get around 200k AP from vengeance.
Level 87 Survival Hunter
- Also previous comments have mentioned on Snake Traps so that the fight does not reset every time he decapitates you. Timing is key here, since DBM timers disappear when you die. I personally use a stopwatch to time the decapitate intervals.
I'm using Survival on my hunter because your DoT's hurt more on Mandokir, which means there's still some dps even if you're being res'd by the spirit, and also I'm not sure if the debuff/buff will give your pet extra dps, which is why I avoid being BM. Just remember that the Spirit buff is stackable, I usually wait 4-5 stacks of it before I use my cd's.
I don't have a 90 geared Ret Paladin or Prot Paladin, but as far as I've seen that it is still possible to do it.
As a Prot Paladin, you can bubble the first decapitate//Ardent Defender + GoTK + Divine Protection glyphed + Shield of the Righteous mastery the second decapitate (will give you huge amounts of Vengeance) use your dps cooldowns on this phase (wings + holy avenger) // and Hand of Protection on the 3rd decapitate if it's still necessary.
Also, I have attempted this on a Mage spec'd with Cauterize, unfortunately it doesn't prevent you from dying. I just got 1 hit then got the debuff but I still died.
Although it is possible to Ice Block the decapitate, hopefully you can burst him down.
You can spec to Cold Snap so that you can get another Ice Block for the second decapitate, just have a cancelaura macro ready so you can dps as soon as he hits you with decapitate.
Already tried also using a Shaman for this, hoping I can reincarnate before he resets the fight, unfortunately the option is grayed out because the Spirit is going to rez you. I'm pretty sure it will be the same for a Warlock's Soulstone.
I haven't tried to this on a Rogue spec'd to Cheat Death yet.. or a Shadow Priest with Shadowform+Dispersion. If I have the time I will try to experiment with that.
**NOTE: I'm sorry i'm still too lazy to link up the skills to make this post more colorful. I will soon. Also, if people requests video footage of my kills, I can upload them.
I did get the Raptor mount after a few weeks of farming him. Don't give up and good luck :)
Soloed him as a Fire Mage, item level 487; I imagine it could be done with any spec as long as you pick "Cold Snap" as your tier 4 talent as it resets the CD on Iceblock. The Hypothermia debuff goes away in 30 secs and the Decapitate CD is 35 seconds so you can get a second Iceblock off and live through two Decapitates, giving you almost two minutes to kill him before the third Decapitate kills you.
I blocked the first time when the DBM Summon Oghan timer was at around 9-10 seconds (since it doesn't show a timer for the first Decapitate). After the first unblocking I Time Warped, popped Mirror Images and my other CDs and unleashed on him (I dropped a large Combustion at the start by pulling him with a casted Pyroblast - you'll get a second glyphed Combustion with 4pc bonus this way too). Alter Time can deal with Bloodletting well if you're having trouble there. And I didn't have to kite him outside of the normal battle area, used invisibility to get by the trash, so this can definitely be soloed by a mage fairly easily if you use Cold Snap and are able to Iceblock twice.
I uploaded a video on YouTube of me soloing this, hope you can learn something -
Soloable as a Hunter (ilv467). If you need an explanation for the mechanics, here's my
(commentary, not text).
As of patch 5.3 he will never use decapitate on his main target and hence this is easily doable by any class.
For any level 90s looking to solo him for the mount (or some other loot...), he will still use his decapitate which will still oneshot you. In order to solo him you will need to in some way avoid at the very least the first decapitate with some form of immunity (Bubble, iceblock or similar effects).
He will cast the first decapitate 10 seconds into the fight and the repeating every 30 seconds after that, so use your first immunity ~8-9 seconds into the fight and then cancel it after the decapitate, and you will then have to use your second one 30 seconds later, or have him dead by that time.
In order to have him dead before the second decapitate you will need to do 4.8 million damage over 40 seconds (120k DPS), which should be doable by most classes if you have a bit of raid gear. Just remember you will need an immunity effect.
If you do not have an immunity (or can use something like a hunter snake trap to cheese past it) you will most likely need to bring a friend for doing it, at least until the next expansion after Mists of Pandaria.
For anyone curious like I was: I tried a couple trinkets that summon adds to help you (e.g.
Bitterest Balebrew Charm
). Not surprisingly they despawn when you die. So, no help there.
Edit: Someone below said that the
crate of kidnapped puppies
would work. I just go it today and tried it.
It does not.
Like other trinkets, the puppies despawn when you die.
Edit. I also just got
and tried it just for fun. The gnomes despawn when you die. No help.
Still unsoloable by classes that don't have some summonable minion/s that don't despawn when you die. Even tried using die by the sword to try parry the decapitate, you can't :(
OK! So i finally solo'd it... and not by a class that has any dmg reduction... I'm an ele shaman :)
What i Learned for is burst actually works; i popped everything along with potions/flasks, i finished at 350k... it works tho... it was a total of 13s and, i noticed he gets the spell
which I think interrupted his
... Didnt even think about it but PE would have worked alot better... but hey he is dead, Havent gotten mount yet but gotta keep trying
Photo for Evidence
Enhance shaman is also able to solo:
By checking Forgotten1:s post I tried the same way, agi food/flask, forgot to use potion. Self buffed, popped Elem. mastery, Wolves, Ascendance, S.lash totem and Lust, started with Stormblast to be able to use it twice before he would go decapitate. Fight lasted 14 seconds according to DBM.
521ilv with haste build but no mount yet.
now soloable as a well gear demonology warlock, dps requirement appears to be around 210-215k bursting him down before his decapitate kills you with the dark bargain credit to teye for the video
Bloodlord Mandokir will no longer use Decapitate against his current target.
Coming from the newest updates to the
patch notes for 5.3.
He will be soloable without any fancy tactics.
Soloable in 5.2 as a Retribution Paladin, I have made a Youtube guide for those who are interested in defeating this boss. I also think it will be soloable by Death Knights with Purgatory as well as Rogues and Mages with Cheat Death / Ice Block.
Good luck on your mount endeavors.
Soloed as 90 enhance with cd stacking, just blowing it up in that 10 seconds. ilvl 510 so doesnt need all that much.
anyone know if this fight can be done solo if at level 90 due to I tryed & I just get one shoted with my 508 Ilevel & I want my pet quest I get after he dead
"Zul'Gurub-Bloodlord Mandokir will no longer use Decapitate against his current target."
Ohoho, this may be good news for those wanting to run back through ZG. I'll try and check it when servers are back up.
I have solo'd on the following... 90 DK(blood), Druid(feral, cat), Warrior(fury), Rogue(combat) Hunter (MM). If you are solo Mandokir doesn't cast decapitate unless you have a pet out. Should be soloable by most if not all classes. Now give me your mount Mandokir!
Still not soloable as of 5.3, I''m a 517 demo warlock and he still 1 shots me
It's soloable as all classes. Just if you're going to have a pet, you can't let it tank or ever get aggro where you lose focus as his main target.
Hunters: As of 5.3 the boss no longer 1 shots his main target, but unfortunately his main target is your pet. This means you have to tank it yourself, preferably in survival so theres no risk of your pet getting aggro. I specced into Exhilaration and killed him fairly easily. Good luck!
As of patch 5.3 he no longer uses
on his primary target. Making this a joke to solo.
Zerg him down every attempt in about 25 secs as an ele. Goes without saying but do not (as I did 1st time) fight him with an earth elemental. Its taunt will get you killed. Almost facedesked
Just nuke him; 28 seconds with 169k damage (I killed the raptor as well when spawned).
May be it is not needed to kill the add, and then it is faster.
Well, the old times are gone; we spent more than 1 hour in Zul Gurub, running for the 353 ilvl gear.
Now, I can even run through the fires which come out of the voodoo masks on the wall.
word of warning to all you dks do not pop army for this he will kill you
This guy is a genius for luring players to get exp.... he really needs to earn a Title for being one of Few (If only) Npc to actuly gain Exp and Ding from killing Us. An even his boss (Guild master?) Grats him.
Basicly, this is a joke now.
Solod as Shadow Priest ilvl 503 in 5.3.
He will reset if you die by
. The trick is to avoid that. He will cast it about 10 seconds into the figth.
As Shadow Priest I did like this:
Puted up a timer: /timer 12
When the timer dinged I used
And after that it was just to nuke.
Good luck farming the mount!
How to: Solo Zul'Aman & Zul'Gurub Heroic in Mists of Pandaria. Also includes the achievements.
Very easily solo'd by a well-geared hunter. I'm currently 508 ilvl and only have to deal with one decapitate before I can kill him. Just have to snake trap right before he one shots me so he doesn't reset, then I just dps him down quick enough. I'm sure though that tanking him yourself, rather than allowing your pet to, would work as well, as if you're the primary target he (shouldn't) decapitate you.
Sadly no raptor yet, though.
EDIT: Got the raptor today, finally - 11/11/13. :) Didn't keep track of how many, but it was certainly nearing 100.
I realized my snake trap tactic is pretty much unneeded. Just simply tank him the entire fight - keep pet on passive until you build enough aggro, then send them in. Can always use distracting shot in case something goes wrong as well. With my ilvl at 546 now, I think the average kill time is 18 seconds.
Just did this as a warlock in 5.4. I was destro and used the Observer pet. I tanked him myself, and he didn't cast a single decapitate. I only did about 90k average dps.
cannot absorb all damage of
(approx. 10 million)
Niuzao 0 : Mandokir 1
He has been stealth nerfed!
No longer casts Decapitate aka "oneshot ability" if you're alone.
Note: if you're a hunter or similar don't let your pet tank him because he will decapitate you then.
Hey everyone, remember when he stole your Lashtail Hatchling?
The time for revenge has finally come. GET 'IM!
Warlock and Hunters:
Dismiss your pets to solo him! He won't decapitate you if your character has aggro.
Bloodlord Mandokir will no longer use Decapitate against his current target.
I am killing him every day with 5 (now 6) characters. I've been through 150+ kills, which is by far the largest amount of kills i've ever had to commit to get a mount, and i have all of the currently accessible ingame dungeon mounts except this one. So let me tell you my experiences.
I am killing him with an ele shaman (557) a rouge (536) a frost dk (530) a warlock (526) a mage (519) and now a guardian druid (494). The longest run is with the dk, since i dont have any invisibility with him, and i have not bought potions, which is a great solution for skipping the trash before him, and the most endangering kill is with my mage.
The trash can be skipped if you vanish and reappear or reincarnate before the boss. If none of the options are accessible for you, i suggest the following:
-Go straightforward to Mandokir's domain without dismounting, avoid pulling Venomancer T'Kulu.
-If you didn't pull the Berserking Boulder Roller, you can stop behind him to get out of combat.
-Pull the first pack and click to the caludron to get a buff, that will nearly kill the target of your next spell. Click and kill each enemy.
-The patrolling npcs will stun you, be aware of them.
You do not need to care about oghan. When the boss reaches a 10% or something, he will enrage that hurts like hell. That is the most critical part of the encounter with my mage. Try kiting or using def. cd.-s if you feel yourself on the borders of extinction. Good luck.
So I was trying this on my mage and I kept getting decapitated. Realized I popped mirror images xD
*** Level 90 hunter solo guide ***
Main abilities (1) Decapitate (2) Devastating Slam (3) Bloodletting
(1) He will rush into you and give you the unstoppable instance death: Put a snake trap next to his foot to the direction where you are standing - right after you die a good spirit will come and resurrect you (only while your snakes are alive).
(2) Earthly wave attack: Move aside to avoid the earthly wave attack. It usually start right after his pet is resurrected. If you stand right close to him you can easily move aside from its attack.
(3) Draining your life all up: Your HP meter quickly went down close to 0 but it won't kill you instantly. Heal yourself even a little bit AFTER this attack stops.
RIGHT AFTER the fight starts, you will hear him saying...
Bloodlord Mandokir yells: Make peace, worms. I be deliverin' you to Hakkar myself!
Then activate a snake trap (if it is so difficult) UNDER HIS FOOT right away because YOU ARE GOING TO BE KILLED by his 1st Decapitate attack regardless.
You can get a snake trap ability with a Major Glyph Setting which will replace with an ice trap ability.
After you are resurrected (by one of purple good spirits), call your pet out, put an "Ice Trap" under him so his summoned pet will move more slowly.
I prefer kill his pet quickly otherwise it will try to kill all the good spirits.
If you are about to die (to show your health meter in numbers go Interface > Status Text > Player) put a snake trap right under him to activate it so you can be resurrected in a full health by a good spirit after you died.
Because I have a Glyph of Mirrored Blades, I tried "Deterrence" to reflect Bloodletting magic. It was successful and I reflect spell back to him and gave some damage but my HP was still went down close to 0.
I will not recommend to use a tanking pet (like a turtle) because Bloodlord will just keep on decapitating me (even I turned off "Growl" from my tank pet) and it was very difficult for me to handle. Instead I use a spirit beast as my pet and I don't know why but he won't cast the 2nd decapitate attack to me with this pet. I did not test other pet groups so I suggest you to try other pets and see what will be the out come.
Does not cause durability loss
For all of my fellow hunters out there, although maybe dismissing your pet CAN work, he will deal a pretty good amount of damage on you, and since your pet is no longer by your side, there will be no heals, and nuking him down will be harder, since you lose about 30% DPS.
However, after today I have found a tactic that is much easier. If you simply place your pet OUTSIDE the arena he is standing in, you will still receive the heals, and the extra 30% dps, and he will NOT use decapitate!
TIP: Set your pet to passive, so he won't run into the fight anyway.
he still decapitates. he just did it to me when soloing it
Not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I just found out- Doing my daily mount run I thought it'd be fun to just kill this guy with my Shadowfiend (As a shadow priest). Sure enough, a few whacks and he's down, mildly entertaining until I noticed he had no loot, and quickly disappeared... Welp, there's goes my daily attempt.
So learn from my mistake, fellow Spriests, don't let your Shadowfiend do your dirty work, or no loot for you :(
Edit- apparently fixed now as of 7.0 pre-patch
is complete, it unlocks
which rewards the rare quality B/B Beast battle pet
is offered by the captured
, appearing in the Zul'Gurub raid once you've killed
Note that if you're soloing this as old content, you can go straight to
, without having to kill any of the other bosses first.
I'd been killing him almost weekly for months, finally gave up, and just noticed I already had the mount in my collection. No idea when it dropped.
