found sitting under cherry tree at 56.43, 48.24, easy to deal with
Aww... I was just doing quests and my npc scan went off. Gave me a heart attack! For some reason I didn't expect it since it's the first day of MoP. I duno why I thought so... lol. Anyway, he's right around the Aboretum in The Jade Forest (Pandaria). Hope that helps!
Aw... I came across this guy and didn't want to kill him. :(
He only wants to smell the flowers:
The Story of Ferdinand
When aggro'd he says, "Gonna bash you into pretty flower food!"
He reminds me of another large Hoofed Being that sits around trying to have peace an is neutral...*Cough* *cough* Gamon *Cough*
Part of the Achievement

in the guide section.
Easier to solo than most if you have some self-heals - just heal through the stuns and dps him down. Probably best to group against him though since all the drops are BoP (my druid got cloth pants).
All Yaungol rares use the same set of abilities.
Yaungol Stomp hits hard, but is very easy to avoid. The Yaungol will stop moving to cast it, and the range is only a couple yards around him. Just take a few steps out of it.
Charge will only be used if you get more than 20 yards from the Yaungol and isn't particularly dangerous by itself, but combined with Bellowing Rage can be lethal.
Bellowing Rage is a massive damage buff that will allow the Yaungol to make mincemeat of you in short order if you allow him to hit you. Fortunately, the buff also slows the Yaungol by 20%, so all you have to do is walk away until the buff wears off.
He's so sad looking. Found him under a tree at 54,42. I didn't realize til after I killed him that he is holding 2 bouquets of flowers, 1 in each hand. I felt so bad for killing him after that, that I have made a vow to not touch him with my other characters, no matter how tempting it is.
Obviously referring to Walt Dinsey's Ferdinand The Bull. :)
First non-aggresive yaungol I've encountered in the game. Sitting amongst the peaceful surrounds of a beautiful garden he was simply content to let the world go happily by. So ofcourse like the hero I am I hurled a lightning bolt in his face and pursued him till his battered and beaten body could take no more. As the distruaght and horrified garden tenders looked on in disbelife I rummaged through his few worldly goods and went about my buissnes.
They called him
FERDINAND THE FIERCE.
And all the hunters were afraid of him!
And the rogues were even more frightened!
But the warrior... He was the SCAREDEST OF ALL!
But no. Ferdinand didn't want to fight.
He just wanted to sit under his tree...
And SMEEELLLLLL the flowers.
He spawned at 4:43pm AEST 24/10
Quickly rushed to him, had 2 wasps and him beating me up.
Rather easy fight :)
Was rewarded with a spoils bag and a leather pair of legs that i couldnt use
I found him at 55,42
It was very easy to sole as a 90 hunter just stood back and shot while my pet tanked it. Dropped a pair of mail pants level 400.
While questing in his grove, my Flag NPC went off and pointed him out. I targeted him, then thought to myself "I wonder if killing him will get me an achievement like killing the Outland & Northrend rares do?" So, like a madman, I charged him without looking him up here to see what he was capable of. I noticed his level and figured I could take him as an 86 moderately-geared Fury Warrior. Unfortunately for me, an emergency came up with my daughter that distracted me enough that mighty Ferdinand eventually took me out. He's a tough old brute, but I'm sure I can get my revenge the next time I see him. Flower-sniffing or not!
Ran across him myself, and just couldn't bring myself to kill him. Had many good memories of the story when I was a kid. Submitted a screenshot of myself sitting with him.. Came back 1 hr later and he was still there, guess other people felt the same.
Found him at 56,48 sitting under a tree.
I've now killed
. Maybe that's why the RNG gods hate me...
My priest cried before even attacking him. I hadn't read any comments here, but even the fact that he was neutral and just sitting under the tree made me not want to attack him. Sadly, I want the achieve :'(
Extremely easy to solo as a lvl 85 feral druid. Just run out when he uses Yaungol Stomp, but it has a long cast time.
NPCScan went off randomly, I found him, and without thinking, murdered him in cold blood. I shot at him while watching my Savage rip him to shreds. Then I realized that he was just relaxing under a tree. He was holding flowers. All he wanted was to smell the flowers. And I killed him. Feeling bad, I mourned his death quickly and flew away, hating myself. Forgive me </3
Man, screw you, Blizzard, and screw
too. I started fighting this guy, and literally got him down to ~25K, and then I noticed what he had said in the chat window:
"Gonna bash you into pretty flower food!"
And then I saw that he was holding two bouquets of flowers, one in each hand. So I popped Divine Shield and Speed of Light and ran away. He reset, ran back to his little tree, and had a nice afternoon with his flowers.
You know what? Screw your dumb achievement. I don't feel glorious at all. Half of those folks, they're just out minding their own business, trying to make their way in the world, until some horrible game developer decided to put out a hit on them for no good reason other than they had a lot of HP and could hit like a truck.
I will never get
. I bet Activision put you up to this.
With out thinking I put a bullet in his head only to see what he said and what he was holding. :( On top of that
dropped. Now I'm sickened and angry at myself.
Soloed easily on an 85 Arcane Mage with a few pieces of 397 gear. Basically, bubble and blink - toss Scorch in while avoiding him as much as possible. When he stands still to cast his Stomp, just light him up with Arcane Blast/Missiles. Rinse and repeat until
becomes the flower food.
Killed him in seconds...he barely stood up from the ground..took his flowers though!
Another person with NPCscan. I was running a freshly minted 85 rogue with oddball gear around Jade Forest. Every time NPCscan went off, I'd target the thing and it would be dead or near-dead.
Ferdinand was the first NPC who was alive and I had all to myself. Like some of the other folks, I felt a little bad targeting what looked like a Tauren dual wielding bouquets, but I just wanted to see if I could do it.
He does melee attacks and there are little tells that let you know what's coming. First, I had to clear mobs in case I had to run around in circles (when in doubt, run about). Then, I checked to make sure the poisons were applied. I put Vendetta on him and mutilate. He hit me for a lot of damage, so the strategy was to run through him and then around in circles, kiting him. I used mutilate the get combo points up, whatever DoT hit my fancy, an occasional kidney shot, more running in circles, mutilate to get combo points up again and recuperate. Mostly, I alternated mutilate/DoT and mutilate/recuperate.
Of course, people are going to say on their 90 it was easy. On an 85 it was challenging and fun. Took me a while, but I was delighted when I hit that sweet spot where my rogue's health bar stayed very steady and the damage to the NPC was steady, too. Good training for the Brawlers later on.
He dropped the mace and cloth pants. Useless for me, but they sold for some decent gold and I got an achievement for it.
Oh why do you make us kill those to just want to do nothing but go and smell the flowers?
I remember this story long ago as well. It's too bad that he doesn't drop a flower or something like it.
And yes, unlike the other yaungols, he duel welds 2 bouquet of flowers. So yah, they can be "pretty" painful. :)
i find that ferdinand isnt strong enough. i hope they would skill him up a lil.
NPC Scan alerted me to this character and I checked him out in these very "pages" and have, like a lot of people, decided not to kill him... my lvl 88 Hunter with Bear would wipe him easily and I don`t like easy kills... I know its a game but I`m a Hunter not a murderer and that`s what it would feel like.. :-(
I know, I know, it sounds a bit lame, it`s just my sense of fair play kicking in... :-)
I've encountered this little fella while I was minding my own business in the garden. He meant no harm, but he was available for a kill, so I went on WoWHead and found about the tale character he represents.
I set near him for a couple of minutes, finishing my IRL curd. Then I waved him "good bye" and went off. I was merely 12 steps away when I noticed a 90 level alliance player.
Withouth any thoughts, nor with any doubts the night elf huntress began to cold-bloodly murder the peaceful bull. And while I was thinking about helping the buddy, another 90 level alliance player appeared, a warrior. A "warrior", who helps to murder a peaceful being.
So I, level 85 undead priest, stood there, knowing that there's nothing I can do to help the Ferdinand, watching him slowly being tortured to death.
It even looked like the alliance huntress was mocking the poor fella since she was constanly kiting the bull without any need.
That's when his health dropped to 10%, then 5%, and then he died. Immediately, the alliance players went further to do their own business as if they were on some sprint. I targeted the corpse and ran close to him. He was laying way too far from his favourite tree. I decided to make peace and wait until he respawns, but he was just laying there all dead. A couple of minutes passed, but the corpse was all that left from the Ferdinand.
That's when I finally went off thiking that now I will have to return and kill him later to complete my undying love to this tortured being and to look into his loot. How did you expect an undead shadow priest to express his feelings?
P.S.: I've finally decided that I won't kill this fella at all, letting the light part of my undead soul express the love. Let the shame be on the alliance.
I was standing here watching him smell the flowers, and a female DK player asked me "Worth it?" I replied, "Not sure, I'm looking him up." She said, "He's kind of cute, I'd feel bad. lol." And then she ran off.
So I did too.
So yeah... I walked into the area, found him sitting there peacefully under a tree. Had my demon go over and slap him silly. Now he's busy being dead next to a cart.
If his first name is Franz then it appears that history is repeating itself.
Apparently i'm one of the few players who have zero remorse in murdering these people. Guess i'm a Death Knight for a reason.. He's horde anyway... POW POW!
Ran across this guy when I was out plucking flowers.
He was just sitting there casually and smelling the flowers...
The voices in my head whispered "he should be paying you to sniff those, kill him" and like a good greedy goblin like I am thats exactly what I did...
Kited him around a bit ... got some sucky leather pants... as a mage I was not happy..
Wished I could have ressurected him again so i could have killed him again just cause of the leather pants.
Reference to Ferdinand the Bull, of a beloved children's book referenced in
The Blind Side
. He just liked to sniff the flowers.
I sense this Beautiful peaceful creature is related to a certain large city dweller who wishes to be left in peace. *Cough* Gamon *cough*
Soloed with my 86 feral druid. Easiest thing to do is run around the trunk of the tree he sits next to...close enough to keep aggro without the charge but avoiding the stomp.
Like most of the posters above, I was happy to be one step closer to the achievement, but it made me a little sad remembering the kid's story.
I just saw him today and took a pic of it and sent it to my mom before trying to kill him. The bull fighters couldn't get him up and fight, but I did! Muhahahaha! ;P
I guess I'm different to everyone else here. I hated both the book and the Disney short. I'm off to DK him off the map.
In some freak accident, I was killed by fall damage after an
knocked me off my mount while hovering over poor Ferdinand's body.
When I killed him he said, "Go *!@# yourself, you piece of #$%^." What do you think that means?
I laughed so hard at this rare mob, we must admit Blizzard has a great sense of humor.
I laughed, my dad laughed and even my dog laughed, it was a good time.
I think Blizzard should add
to this guy's loot table.
This entire persona comes from an astrological story of Capricorn. Ferdinand the gentle BULL. So what if he's gentle and only wants to sniff flowers. He didn't gain all that gear being lazy and sitting under a tree all day. He might have a gentle side but what Blizz don't show you is the BULL in him which is set in his ways and will not reason with anyone.
KILL HIM! It's just a friggin game for crying out loud!
I was about to kill him but something made me check him out here. When I saw all the comments I could not bring myself to kill him and stood there for like 15 minutes trying to prevent people from slaying him. Succeeded :D He's too harmless and adorable. Thanks Blizzard for trying to ruin our childhood D:
This guy's name is also a reference of Ferdinand Porsche, CEO and Founder of Porsche AG.
Anyone know how often this thing respawns? I've been searching for him for a while now.
Found Ferdinand at 52 45 sitting under a tree.
A newbie, level 25 void elf disc priest, thinking she's bad@ss with her shadow word: Pain, Smite and Penance. Running around at 3:00am doing quests and nobody around. I saw the "star" on my map, indicating a Rare. It's this guy... sitting under a tree, looking so sad. I didn't notice the flowers, tbh, I just killed him, without mercy. He dropped the mace and plate legs that I can't use. Oh well. Not 5 minutes later I got my @ss handed to me by the Zandalari Warscout. He came out of nowhere and I wasn't paying attention. Karma. I'm sorry, Ferdinand.
