. If you get lucky, you will encounter him as you are about to do
, he mediates right in front of the cave/catacombs. His repertoire includes only two spells:
- Completely avoidable, but deadly if you miss it. Just run away from Yul when you see him begin his cast, and keep moving, because he will chance you as he spins.
- You should interrupt this, always. It has a pretty long cooldown, but he will sometimes do this immediately after a Spinning Crane Kick, so melee classes will need to react quickly.
- Used instead of his melee attack if you are between 15 and 50 yards from him.

He also does a powerful Chi Burst if you are at range. His melee doesnt hit for much so stay within melee range. Make sure to not get too far from him when he does the spin kick so you can get back to melee range asap. I killed him on my spriest due to the Blood Elf racial interrupt. The 45 sec cooldown of Silence was too long and he was able to get the second self heal off. I almost forgot Arcane Torrent had silence as well.
Hunters, as long as your pet has agro and stays in range, he never uses Chi Burst on you. He doesn't hit very hard - Spirit Bond + the occasional Mend Pet kept my pet pretty full on health.
His heal is kind of a pain to deal with. The cooldown is shorter than the 30 second cooldown on Silencing Shot. I found it useful to Silencing Shot the first one, then scatter shot him for the second and stop attacking to let the disorient run the full 4 seconds. Doing that, I was usually able to silence the next heal.

Dual Wield Paw
Just ran in to him, I didn't really know what to do so I dead instantly for the spinning crane kick, 2nd time I died from Chi Burst. He is quite tough especially if you don't know what to do obviously. Simply run away when he does the spinning crane kick and quickly run back to him when he stops spinning and interrupt his heal and he should go down,
Ran across him on my demo lock today. Used my Observer as my minion for his Optical Blast and the interrupt would come off its 24 second cooldown right before Yul cast his heal. So for other warlocks trying for him, save your Command Demon until you see Yul starting that 2.5s Healing Mists cast. I stayed at range and kept up Corruption, Hand of Gul'dan, and Imp Swarm, then Health Funnel'd my minion during the spinning kicks. I never grabbed aggro so he never touched me, my demon never went below 80% health, and he dropped a
With regard to Corq's above comment, my main spec is destro and if I catch this mob again then I will try using that spec instead. However, I don't see that it would be much different using the fel puppy's Spell Lock instead as it has the exact same 24sec cooldown as the observer's Optical Blast. However, I know that I am an aggro thief on destro and the key to this mob while standing at range is to never pull his aggro or he'll Chi Burst you. So, your burst damage has to be kept to a minimum; just put up some dots and stand back and play healer to your minion while watching for when to interrupt Yul's heal.
This guy is very difficult to beat. I tried him on my destuction warlock > FAIL. I had to switch to demonology in order to interrupt his heals. still a little hard as he will heal 2-3 times back to back when low on health.
Killed him just now on holy paladin. Keep an interrupt ready at all times. You can't use repentance on him, by the way. Run from his spinning kick, don't interrupt it with hammer, keep it for if you can't get back to melee range when he stops and wants to heal. He will often heal immediately after doing his spinning kick.
All Pandaren rares use the same set of abilities.
Chi Blast is a lethal ranged attack that can potentially one-shot a same level character depending on maximum health. It can be interrupted, but it's far better to completely avoid the ability altogether by staying within 15 yards of the Pandaren. As long as you do not move further than 15 yards from the caster, they will simply never use it.
Healing Mists is an interruptable heal that is typically cast after Spinning Crane Kick. This heals the Pandaren for a huge amount of health, and while it's preferable to let this go off if it means stopping a Chi Blast earlier on, it's better to save your interrupts for this and avoid Chi Blast by staying close.
Spinning Crane Kick is avoidable simply by running away. The Pandaren moves faster than normal running speed, so be ready with some kind of speed boost (about 30% should do) or get a head start while the Pandaren is still casting the initial spell. Stunning during the channel will stop the attack, but stunning during the initial cast will only make them cast it again when the stun wears off.
I went in to this one already prepared to interrupt his heal. First heal - Silencing Shot, no problem. Second heal immediately after that, huh, ok, Scatter Shot. Third heal
in a freaking row
, I remembered that I had Intimidation just in time.
Then he cast Healing Mists
and bounced back up to full health. I threw my hands in the air, dismissed my pet, and Feigned Death.
Seriously, how are we supposed to interrupt 4 heals in under 20 seconds? I must be missing a mechanic to keep him from casting in the first place.
Tried this on my Hunter. I had no problem with the first pandaren monk I ran into outside of Jade Forest. The second monk I helped someone with. I am fighting this one alone, with my Shale Spider, as they have an interrupt skill.
The first time, I used Silencing Shot. He went to heal again, I used Scatter. He proceeded to do it a THIRD time I was like "The hell?" I used Intimidate, then he went for a fourth time and I'm thinking "Oh my god, seriously?" So I used Shale's Web Wrap to stop it, and he then, used it a FIFTH TIME in a freakin' row. I'm completely dumb fonded by this. Five times in a row in under 20 seconds? That is absolutely asinine. My Silenced shot was just about to finish CD when he got the fifth one, and went right back to 98% from 46% HP. I was super irritated.
The type of interrupt you use for Healing Mist is vital. Physical stuns/knock-backs will leave him only to immediately start casting another Healing Mist
. A magic school interrupt or silence seems to lock him out of that spell and move him along in his rotation.
Based on 2 previous encounters on my Demo Lock where using the Felguards Axe Toss (physical stun) and my Metamorphosis Carrion Swamp (knock-back) had him just cast an immediate 3rd Healing Mist. Switching to my Observer and using his Optical Blast silence resulted in only the one Healing Mist.
It is possible to solo him as a Shadow Priest, although it is quite tiresome. What you want to do is interrupt
is ready and otherwise just do as much damage as possible.
You will only be able to interrupt every second
but as long as you can do enough damage you should be able to take about ~20-25% off his health every time. Since his heal "only" heals him for 50% of his health, this means you can definitely beat him.
However, a word of advice: Lots of players are currently farming rares. With the amount of time it will take you to kill this rare (without help), you have to expect opposite faction players to show up and kill you. If you really want to kill this rare, bring a friend who can interrupt more than once every 45 seconds.
I almost felt guilty for messin this guy's day up; dude is just chillin on the beach meditating. Then out of nowhere this dual wielding cow warrior comes running along and busts his feng shui all up.
Seems to be chain casting Healing Mists now, didn't do this a week ago when I killed it on my mage.
tried to melee him with my guardian druid. no dice. when i ran from his Crane Kick (just on the ledge where i found him) he'd leash and reset. i left after he leashed four times. my best try had him at about 45% health. he doesn't drop anything worth that hassle.
best be is to just group up for the 'chiev-o.
good luck. take care.
You should try doing this as a SPriest. My Psychic Horror don't work. He's immune. I fought him for nearly 15 minutes non stop and he healed up every time. Rediculous.
Does anybody know what fist weapons he is using, if they are actual in-game weapons?
Soloing Rare Pandaren with a BM Hunter:
The important thing for me to remember is to use a pet with an interrupt such as a porcupine or crane. Don't let the pet interrupts auto-cast, but make them castable in the pet's spell bar. This additional interrupt is for healing mists which is a spam heal from the Pandaren rares. DPS should be fine for a hunter, but the problem with soloing is the Healing Mists spell.
Interrupts for Healing Mists:
1. First interrupt Healing mists with Intimidation
2. Second, use pet's interrupt (sleep, stun, etc.)
3. For the third interrupt use Misdirection
4. Then the fourth use Scatter Shot and let the 4 sec. daze expire and continue with rotation
5. Hit READINESS
6. Repeat with interrupts Intimidation, Misdirection, Scatter Shot
7. The pet's interrupt is not reset with Readiness so it now moves to a last resort.
This gives hunters a total of 8 Interrupts with no waiting for cool downs. There may be more but I have found this works quite well.
If you're pets health reaches an all-time low hit Exhilaration to heal it back to 100%. If you have a ferocity pet out you can let it die and immediately hit Heart of the Phoenix. This will allow you to go through your pets health bar 3 times without using Revive Pet. If it's a tenacity pet use it's special ability at a low health to begin damage reduction and 20% health gain. I find both pet specs work well in two different ways, it just depends on your current DPS and style of rotation.
Also, I usually blow all my normal big cooldowns for a big DPS burst at the beginning of the fight as well as after I hit readiness.
After a few tries i just went back to stable master to take my crane.
With crane was very easy, DONT USE scatter shot, seems that all go with the type of interrupts u use, as someone said.
Just used silencing and the one from crane manually of course, he never tried to cast mist.
did try as blood dk dident work at all did realize that u need burst on him so whent frost did get him after dying accouple times its good if u dont have anything on cd and i also had some help from taochi cus i had just grabbed shado pan dailys
My level 89 Monk (Misterweaver) and my bestfriend with his 88 hunter manged to kill this panda!
The trick is to have a stun ready right after the crank kick.. he will do a healing mist.
You have to stop that!
I did it by standing behind him, and only healing the pet, when the panda spun i crawled right up behind him and stunned him half way thru his heal.
It only took about 10 mins once we figured out what to do.
this.. so happy! lol
Alirium & Ghumia ROCK ON FOREVER!
Did feel a little bad tackling him, as a previous poster pointed out, he's just chilling on a rock!
Got him on 5th attempt as a 90 Retardin.
Popped all my CD's and laid into him - stunned the first spinning kick - and kept on going. Got out of range for the next kick but came in early to interrupt the heal after (got down to about 30% health - maybe not the best idea) - and he was almost there. Kept dpsing and he died through the last kick in which I used lay-on-hands (to stay alive) so I could stay in melee range and take down his last few ticks of health.
I was at about 5% health at the end lol.
Tough customer - but really pleased but very lucky methinks - as I'm a fairly average player and generally die to the harder elites...
Solo'd him as a lvl88 Affliction Warlock. It took me a couple of tries to figure it out, but it turned out to be pretty easy. I used my Observer as a tank, kept my dots up, and interrupted his Healing Mists with the Observer's Optical Blast.
It would seem these rares have been fixed and your silence will work to prevent him from spamming his heal now. Thank the Gods.
These types of rares are the more difficult ones to kill. I have a Hunter, even with Silence Shot I could not always prevent him from casting his heal again. The best solution for a Hunter to kill these guys is to use a Gorilla. The have an AoE silence that prevent spell casting in the category for a couple of seconds afterwards. Since getting a Gorilla these rares are way easier to kill. And even with Silence Shot, they can cast heal again.
Gave up on this as a level 90 shadow priest with ilvl 456. Also silence was always on CD when the second wave of healing came, so no point in trying.

Intimidation on Spinning Crane Kick
I must give in to the anger! It is the only way!
If you have any of the pandaren followers around, its best to have a ranged attacker with you such as the casters or the archer. When he does his crane kick, the melee follower will die after a few hits from it.
Hi, I just soloed him as an 89 mage (after MANY tries). Mage abilities seem perfect for countering him:
During normal battle, stay close to him, I used instant casts like Arcane Barrage and Fire Blast, Arcane Missiles when they were up. You can try to Deep Freeze him if you want, but I found that too distracting.
Keep Ice Barrier up.
Once he starts casting Crane Kick,
. Blink is perfect for this, because the cooldown is just shorter than his Crane Kick intervals, and the distance is just right. If you Blink far away enough, he won't follow you! I took this time to cast Frost Bomb/Evocation (I have the glyph that heals too). Don't Blink too far away though, you won't make it back in time to avoid Chi Blast. Generally I found if you blinked once he starts casting and turn back towards him after blinking, that's just right. Also, when you Blink, you should Blink
from him. i.e. if you're facing him, turn around then blink, otherwise he'll still be close enough to chase you. You also need to blink towards a clear area - if you blink into a wall, he'll also chase you. You need to plan which direction you want to Blink in before he starts casting.
You need to start running back before he finishes Crane Kick. Maybe try a few times to get a feel. It's safer to run back too early than too late.
His heals can easily be interrupted with Counterspell, which also silences him. Counterspell cooldown is also shorter than his heal intervals! If you misuse Counterspell and it's still on CD, you can try Frost Nova + Deep Freeze, which also works.
Keeping your abilities, especially Time Warp, and to a lesser extent Arcane Power and POM, on cooldown is also useful.
Main mistakes I made:
Blinking too far/too near, getting hit by Chi Blast/Crane Kick.
Not interrupting his heals.
Getting my spell rotation wrong, so that Counterspell was on CD at the wrong time etc.
Seems you just need very good concentration for 5 minutes, respond correctly and quickly to everything he does, and you'll get it!
This guy is incredibly easy to solo on a (moderately-equipped) lvl 90 Feral Druid, though I daresay he will be just as easy for a lvl 89 - it just might take a wee bit longer to zerg him down.
Just lay into him as usual, make use of Predatory Swiftness procs to heal yourself now and again. Once he starts casting Crane Kick, just start running away from him until he finishes channeling (he'll never catch up due to Cat Form's increased speed), then rinse and repeat. Interrupt his heals with Skull Bash or Mighty Bash.
Piece of cake.
F***ing impossible to do as a warlock due to not enough interrupt spells. Blizzard should totally fix this.
(We do have one using succubus & one if you use Felhunter, but they're both on too long cooldown to manage him unless you're VERY lucky.)
This guy was a pushover before 5.2 where my Spiritbeast pet would almost ignore his spinning kick. now he kills my pet in under 5 sec and this makes him much more difficult to solo
Apparently Blizzard doesn't feel my warrior ever needs to kill this guy, as he CATCHES me running while doing his crane kick.
edit: Apparently I also suck. Just watched a DK two levels below me kill him like it was nothing. Depressing.
Made a new way to solo these tricksy pandas as a BM hunter. (Lvl 90)
1) Move spirit beast away from the action, put it on passive
2) Shoot the guy in melee range (his non-ability damage is rather unimpressive)
3) Have your spirit beast cast Spirit Mend on you basically whenever it comes off of cooldown.
4) Interrupt the heal with Silencing Shot
5) Interrupt the Spin Kick with Scatter Shot (Immediately after it has been cast, not before, he'll just recast it)
6) If Scatter Shot is on cooldown, Disengage. But be ready to move back into melee (Chi burst hurts)
7) In emergencies, when he is going to heal, and Silencing Shot is on CD, cast Intimidation and Blink Strike back to back. Gotta be quick with it though. Immediately move the Spirit beast back out of the action.
Using a combination of Necrothian & Tacololo's strategies, I was able to solo Yul Wildpaw as a 90 hunter.
Anytime Yul begins to cast
, just use one of the following:
your pet's interrupt ability (gorilla or shale spider recommended)
racial abilities (Arcane Torrent / Warstomp / Quaking Palm)
Readiness if your spells are on cooldown
You will need to stay within melee range for this fight, otherwise he will cast
, which may be enough to two-shot you.
It might be a good idea to have a potion just in case, although I only needed to use it once during the fight. Just make sure to keep the interrupts coming, and you will easily burn him down. I am assuming that this strategy works for other pandaren-type rares as well. Good luck!
As a Rogue, this was easily done solo, but it was a long fight since i was still 89.
All you need to do is always have
his healing spell
, and run away from
Spinning Crane Kick
(or you can stun/blind him)
Honestly, I think it's a bit messed up that any rare opponents like Yul Wildpaw or any of the other pandaran champions are impossible to solo for some classes/specs. Even with the fix so they don't immediately cast Healing Mists after they've been interrupted, it's impossible for, say, a Priest to solo. Priest's only get one interrupt, Silence, and these enemies are immune to fear. Which actually makes no sense that they are immune to fear but can be stunned.
Spotted Yul Wildpaw outside of the Niuzao Temple. I'm a Druid-Balance and healing myself wasn't working out as he kept healing himself as well and killed me. I grouped with a Mage, he used Time Warp
. Went down in seconds. He dropped
I have noticed that after patch 5.3 this npc drops hardly anything than the neck item? Before I killed him loads and farmed a lot of enchanting mats from him. Now I am lucky to get any enchanting drops from him. Ninja nerf?
You need to find the sweet spot for avoiding his spinning crane kick and interrupting the heal he does after the spinning.
Dont let him get a heal off, it usually takes him back to 100%, his spinning kick will 2 shot you and heal him back up also
I had a very hard time killing this boss as a Destro Warlock. I tried perhaps 20 times, failing every time, either bc Shadowfury was on cooldown and my Voidwalker was mashed by Spinning Crane Kick or that I failed to interrupt Healing Mists for that same reason.
Then I changed tactic and this boss was a child's play to kill. This is how I did:
1. Spec the 5th tier
2. Summon a Felhunter. Sacrifice him with said talent.
3. Move the spell
to your action bar (should be
4. Summon a Demonic Circle next to the boss.
5. Summon a Demonic Gate about 40 yds away from him.
Now the fight. Just nuke him with everything you got, don't use Chaos Bolt until you got at least two Embers.
to interrupt Spinning Crane Kick.
1b. If its still on cooldown, immediately click your Demonic Gate and wait for the spin to end. He will start casting Chi Burst as you're no longer in melee range. Immediately teleport back to him and he'll stop casting Chi Burst and resume melee combat. Shortly hereafter he'll cast his Healing Mist - be very attentive or you'll miss it.
to interrupt the Healing Mist - this is crucial!
Rinse and repeat and you'll see that the fight will be surprisingly short. Good luck.
Finally got this guy down on my Destruction Lock. And I am now realizing I didn't even use all the tricks in my bag. I am specced with
so I pulled out my Observer. True to his name, I put him on passive (so he could just observe things). I placed him off to the side a bit (to keep him from getting nuked by the Spinning Crane Kick). I set up a teleport pad a few yards away. I then started in on ol' Yul. I don't think the actual spells here matter, I'm just trying to kill the dude so they're all good. The trick in this fight is that when he casts Spinning Crane Kick you need to beat feet. Get out of there. In my case, I teleported out. Now, that teleport has a 30 second cooldown which is not enough. So the second time he starts to cast the Kick, you need to turn and run. I even used
. But about halfway through his channel he'll stop moving. That's when you need to close back in and start looking for him to cast Healing Mists. The second trick is that when he starts to cast Healing Mists, you need the Observer to put down his notepad and zap the dude with his
(which, handily enough is controlled by our
so make sure that's on your action bar and easily accessible.) The third trick is to stay close to him (except with he's spinning, or about to spin). Because that Chi Burst will knock you on your butt.
I won't lie, I was eventually at a 2 minute rez timer from my attempts, but I got him down finally. I might have to try again next time I see him kicking back and just relaxing!
Just killed him with my hunter (survival). With an ilvl of 545, I was able to kill him just after he did his spin kick (which killed my pet), and before his heal could finish, so no interrupts were necessary. Used all my cooldowns, including
, but at least it IS possible to kill him before he returns to full health with back-to-back heals. Happy hunting!
