Staying in a
on little island in the centre of
Lake Of Stars
Soloed as lvl 89 shaman.
Here are some tacs:
, it doesn't hit much.
should be interrupted at all cost. (it hits %28 hp of yours every sec for 6 sec, its death ability)
When he starts
, keep moving on the small island, since u need to be quick on moving, dont go into water. It basically launches water bombs (like shadow crystals at vezaxx), and hits hard.
edit: Raindance, can be interrupted by knockbacks, stuns etc. (But there is 2 part of cast, first one is actual cast, second is channeling, you have to interrupt channeled one, otherwise, nalash will cast rain dance again, after knockback or stun.)
Then loot. :) I got
Hope this comment was useful for you.
Soloed as an 87 prot warrior in dps gear. Water bolt can and should be spell reflected, second wind heals faster than it hurts. Pummel his torrent. Let him start the rain dance and then immediately shockwave it. If he gets the cast off he will not recast, but if you stun him during the cast he will. Dropped
Amber Starched Robes
. Sold to vendor :(
As a rogue for rare jinyu i've found it best to
let them cast rain dance then immediately gouge ( You should pool +40 energy at all times)
save kick and only use kick for torrent
cloak, ignore or 1 point combo stun water bolt
recup with slice and dice and endure till you win. No moving involved.
This mob dropped for me spinbreaker chestpiece
4514 armor 726str, 1088 stam, crit 512, haste 436 Plate
This guy also drops the
, which teaches
. I've only killed him once and he dropped the pet, but the lack of it in his drop list makes me wonder if perhaps it's a rare drop. If so, good luck!
Edit: His drop list has been updated now, and it looks like it is indeed a somewhat rare drop, made all the harder to get because of his rare status. He is the only mob that drops it so, again, good luck!
It's soloable as a non-heroic dungeon geared shadow priest, but the rotation gets a little weird. Here's how I worked it out:
There's three things you need to watch for: When he's casting
, that's when you want to be doing most of your damage. When he starts
, just avoid his attack. They hit hard, but they're pretty slow. While you're running around, hit him with anything instant you can... spam SW:P or any
procs you get, for example. Also, try to make sure you refresh VP on him right before Rain Dance starts.
Now, for the trickier part...
For the first one, interrupt it with
. Simple. For the second, your silence will still be on cooldown, so pop
right before the channel starts, and soak it. For the next one, use silence again.
Then, it gets interesting. Neither of your cooldowns will be up for the next one. This one, I just like to let take me out, with Painkiller saving me. Another option you could try (I didn't test it, but I've seen it work on other mobs) is to
before you know he's going to use it (it's pretty predictable), then
. Optimally, he will channel Torrent on the Shadowfiend instead, and kill it instead of you. I haven't tested this for sure, though, and the timing would be much trickier.
You can obviously use
at your discretion if your health starts getting low and you aren't about to soak a torrent with Painkiller, but I'd recommend using it during the waterbolt phase.
That's how I did it, at least. Good luck to my fellow <440 item level spriests!
(Edit: If you're going to rate me down, at least say what was
with my comment. I was just trying to be helpful, since priests doesn't have a reliable interrupt on a short cooldown.)
for me, it's not listed on here yet and I never had the client installed.

All Jinyu rares have the same set of abilities.
Water Bolt is interruptable, but the damage is negligible in comparison to Torrent. Save your interrupts for Torrent.
Torrent is a channeled spell with a cast time. This spell will kill you in very short order, so interrupt it during the cast time.
Rain Dance is a Jinyu rare's most deadly ability, capable of one-shotting an equal level player if hit. It has a cast time and channel and is immune to interrupts, but can be stopped by stuns or knockbacks. However, save these until after the Jinyu has completed the cast and begun the channel, or it will just start casting the spell again after the effect wears off.
Just camped this guy for a total of 8 hours the past 2 days to get an idea of his spawn rate.
Each spawn took anywhere from 1-1.5 hours.
I fought him as a 90 Blood DK in partial greens and heroic blues (so by avoiding everything, I finished the fight at 100% health). Like everyone says, ignore the bolts, interrupt the Torrent, and
on the Rain Dance.
My melee strategy: I tanked him so that he was on the lower bump. When he would cast Rain Dance, I would gradually shuffle around the bump in a circle. If you do it this way (melee or ranged) the rain bombs won't catch up to you nor even touch you; they are pretty slow, and it's obvious to see where they will land. Jumping in the water only slows you down, and the bombs will still reach you.
Edit: Finally got the pet on one out of the 8 tries. So my guess that the drop is, in fact, close to a 10% chance. Good luck!
Note: I camped this spawn while my boyfriend camped Karr the Darkener, and, not sure if it is a coincidence, but both mobs spawned at the same time every time. Possibly luck due to similar spawn times.
Easily solo'd if you have an interrupt. Torrent should be stopped every time. Rain Dance is easy enough to avoid. Just walks slowly in a circle around him on the rock, staying ahead of the drops.
After my fourth kill I got
killed about 30 along with krol past week. no reed yet =(
Was doing my Klaxxi dailies on my Hunter, when he was up. I used Master of Puppets for an additional pet and my Shalespider.
Interupted his Torrent with Intimidation and /cast Web Wrap makro.
can be completely ignored if you fight him
in the water
, rather than on the island. It will only splash on the bottom of the lake, making it completely harmless.
As a paladin, if you take Fist of Justice it will be up for every Rain Dance. The fight then becomes a breeze - ignore Water Bolt, cast Fist of Justice
after he finishes his Rain Dance cast (so that he actually gets to the channeling part, but doesn't get any orbs out, but still gets put on cooldown), and Rebuke his Torrent. Lather, rinse, repeat.
However, if you're like me, you'll usually have Repentance over Fist of Justice. Theoretically, you could interrupt Rain Dance with Repentance, though I've never tried it. Personally, I Hammer of Justice the first, bubble shortly after the second starts (sure it's possible to avoid, but when you kill these Jinyu rares repeatedly you kind of get over it), then Hammer of Justice the third - if there is a third.
I killed this rare roughly 13 times before he dropped the Hollow Reed. Stuff to know:
Always, always interrupt Torrent.
If you're a pet class like Warlock or Hunter, send your pet to tank him in the water and Rain Dance won't hurt it.
His respawn timer is anywhere from 55-90 minutes (I killed him about 6 times in a row, I should know!) and seems to spawn at the same time as
Karr the Darkener.
Anyone got an idea what staff he is wielding? Looks sweet.
tips: just move as circle around him to dodge the dance easily.
I was moving left and right, it doesnt work well like above.
As of 5.1 raindance no longer drops to the lake bed. You are better off working on the small rock now.
If you are having troubles with the Wowhead map such as myself, here is a waypoint for TomTom leading to his spawn island.
/way Dread Wastes 64.2, 58.6 Nalash Verdantis
Hope this helps! Good luck and happy hunting!
Cool how every time I try to kill one of these an over geared 90 comes along and kills it before I get a second try.
And loots something totally useless to him.
It's actually quite simple to kill him as any class without having to go into the water at all.
Get some Elixir of Water Walking either off the AH or from the daily and once you have no more way to interrupt his Rain Dance cast pop this as soon as he casts it and run around on the water's surface to avoid damage.
The buff will be removed as soon as you take damage again, but since there is basically no cooldown on the elixir you can use it as many times as needed during a fight.
I had an alternative way to kill him as a disc priest, without using the Shadowfiend (Mindbender) or Void Tendrils (thus, independent of Talent build).
My strategy was: I didn't mind the Water Bolts or the Rain Dance (was in the water). On his first Torrent, I used PW:Shield, Spirit Shell and repeatedly cast Flash Heal on me for the duration. He never took my shield off. On the second Torrent, Spirit Shell was on cooldown, then I shielded myself and cast Pain Suppression, and healed myself with Flash Heal when necessary. On the third Torrent, again, I used PW:Shield, Spirit Shell and repeatedly cast Flash Heal on me for the duration. When he was about to cast the fourth Torrent, I killed him (I had both Spirit Shell and Pain Suppression on Cooldown).
I'm now ilvl 485, then I don't know how good it would work for lower ilvls.
If you get to the fourth Torrent, you can use PW: Barrier as an alternative cooldown. :)
I am beginning to get discouraged. I must have killed this guy upwards of 30 times, and still no battle pet. I have notice that he does spawn every hour, nearly on the dot. If this information helps SOMEONE obtain the seemingly unobtainable Aqua Strider, then I guess I will be happy. Another little tip, his spawn point on the hour changes after server maintenance. I.e. one week I farmed him he spawned at 14 minutes past the our. Another week he spawned at half past the hour. The time changed on Tuesday when the servers came back up.
While farming my
pet, here's a tip I discovered as a warrior:
Yes fighting him in the water does make Rain Dance irrelevant (as long as you are in deep enough water), but if you did want to fight him on the rock you can use
to knock him back and this will interrupt Rain Dance!
This guy was a way easier than I anticipated. Most guys with the Torrent ability require me to strategize and be on top of my game. However, for any other priests (or other classes) that have difficulties, the easiest thing you can do is make sure you have the Klaxxi Enhancement "Raining Blood".
Once you get 5 stacks on him, it goes off. I don't know why, but for some reason this will interrupt the Torrent. Make sure you have 4 stacks then cast any ability when he starts casting torrent and easy kill.
I've just camped him for several hours and recorded the following spawn times:
10:34 (first kill)
11:08 (34 mins)
11:41 (33 mins)
12:34 (53 mins)
13:30 (56 mins)
14:14 (44 mins)
14:59 (45 mins)
15:48 (49 mins)
So in my small sample it looks like he spawns roughly every 30-60 minutes
To sum up: stay in deep water, make sure to interrupt Torrent, and this guy is easy!
Well, I've now officially gotten every thing on his loot list at least once (including the Bloodsoaked Invitation I didn't need) ... other than the pet. Pretty close to every item other than pet twice, too.
I completed as a shadow priest but I found, which maybe cheating, that b/c our interrupt "silence" doesn't cooldown in time for his second cast of "torrent" I used my dispersion to keep from losing any health. So in other words, the 1st time he cast torrent i silence him the 2nd time he cast torrent I use dispersion and then the 3rd time he cast it I silenced him again. This allowed me to not lose die from torrent be cast and allowing my cooldown to up when I needed it. I found this works for all Jinyu that cast torrent. Hope this helps & Good Luck(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##
Almost completely solo'd this with my 89 Boomkin, until a 90 came and pulled him into the rock. I couldn't reach him at all, it's impossible to get on the rock without a flying mount.
My solution was to pull over one of the close by Lake Striders and kill it for the grouped loot.
Also, his torrent spell is devastating.
As a Ret Pally, you have interrupts galore. Save Hammer of Justice for his Torrent. Blind also stops Torrent, if you have leveled enough. Belf's get one more interrupt with the racial Silence. Keep up Word of Glory with at least two Holy Power and you should be fine, heal-wise.
And clear the crockolisks first - no one needs that extra aggravation.
Downed extremely easily on a combat rogue. Kidney shot one Rain Dance cast, blinded him during the other, he was dead before he could try a third. Kick torrent if you need to, cloak of shadows always there if you panic. Gouge also handy, but I didn't use it. Got my pet on first try too, so that's pretty awesome.
Typo. Mouseover NPC in minimap shows
This guy was another example of why I sometimes feel hunters are way too easy to play. My bear only needed about 4 heals the whole fight and I was far enough away to take no damage at all. Whats with the pets being immune to everything?
Small wonder a lot of players are trying to bring down Nalash... the rare drop
in S/S breed is the 4th fastest battle pet in the game (as late as Patch 6.1.2) and furthermore, of the three faster and the only other pet with matching speed, NONE of them have Health as high as the S/S Aqua Strider. See the "Speed" tab on
For something thats been out for so many years its ridiculous how 10 people are camping this rare 24 hours a day right now.
2hrs10mn of server hopping and 13 kills before getting the drop
. Bad luck I guess but I shouldn't complain as I have it now.
I never saw him respawn in less than 50min, although I nailed him 3 times right after a 55min respawn. Once he was already there (I was a bit late switching) so that one may have been less.
If you choose the same route, jot down each server you go to and more importantly, write down the time you kill him on a server so that you don't go back there for a while.
Be respectful of the groups you join: many go out of their way to indicate that they DON'T want server hoppers. I stick to Garrison groups myself. Keywords to search for when looking for one are: BANK, TRADER, ERRIS, AH, DUST, JONES, FOX to name but a few.
Be aware that some servers are PvP and your flag will be ON no matter what
NB: You can leave group (hence leave the server) during battle so if you don't feel like fighting and the NPC wasn't/isn't there anyway, just move on and let the dope who attacked you to his own doings.
A little more anecdotal evidence to help nail down his spawn timer. I'm camping him a bit (at least until I get the pet). So far, 4 kills in a row. Two of the respawns were exactly 30 minutes from death, one respawn was exactly 60 minutes from death and one was somewhere around 83 minutes. So far the timer looks to be at least 30 minutes and up to 90 minutes, which seems to jive with most of the reports here. I will edit this with more info as I get it.
Has anyone seen Nalash spawn lately? I've logged on 18x in last 2 weeks, different times of the day/night -- and have never even seen him here. Any sightings?
UPDATE: Put a ticket in, and Blizz confirmed he IS still in the game. Just logged in now Monday at 1336hrs, and lo and behold there he was! Dropped a BOP ilvl 440 Fearsworn Chestpiece
Killed Nalash Verdantis 14 times with my 110 hunter and no hollow reed. It only took a single shot to kill him so there really was no fight. Came up with the idea that perhaps you actually had to FIGHT him in order to get him to drop the reed so I brought over a level 84 Shaman to start the fight. Started the fight with the Shaman, finished it with the hunter, and voila!---hollow reed first try!
Just tried... killed him 3 times... didnt get pet. Average spawn time is between 42 to 49 minutes according to what i just did (times counted from previous death)
Farming Nalash Verdantis spawn times and loot. All times in CST, Rexxar-US.
dropped after 13 kills.
