This guy can drop
, for all you pet hunters out there.
NPCScan picked this guy up while in Valley of the Four Winds on release day. I couldn't figure out how to get to him to find out if he's soloable at 86. :(
Killed him as an 86 Boomkin (Tarecgosa + Normal Raid gear). Pain in the Butt. Got
. No pet. Clear all adds around him, hold him in the corner Just north (within the enclosure). Walk in circles. Don't stand in the crap he puts on the ground and you can do it, just takes some survivability. A DPS that can't self heal will have problems.

All Mogu Sorcerers use the same set of mechanics.
Dark Bolt is a simple ranged attack, ala wanding. Nothing to be done about this.
Shadow Bolt is exactly what it sounds like. It can be interrupted and although it's not a particularly strong attack, there's nothing else to be interrupted anyway.
Voidcloud creates a persistent purple AoE zone centered on your location when the spell finishes. This zone will deal heavy damage if you do not move out of it quickly, so try to be moving already when the cast is ending and place it in an area you can stay out of. Voidclouds last long enough that you may have 2 or 3 up at the same time. The spell can be delayed by stunning the Mogu, but he will resume casting it once the stun wears off.
I've been camping this rare and Nalash Verdantis for a few days now. From experience, they both spawn anywhere from 1-1.5 hours. After 11 kills of Karr, I have gotten two Griners, two loot bags, and random blues.
The spawn of these rares is short enough to keep you sane, and the drop rate of the pets is very fair.
Also, a nifty fact for anyone trying to get Grinder and the Aqua Strider, both Karr the Darkener and Nalash Verdantis spawn at the exact same time, every time. When I finish killing one of them, I go to the other one, and they are
up without fail. Good luck! (:
I don't know if it's something that happens with all rares in Pandaria, but I noticed it with him and one other who I can't remember, but he has this habit of deaggroing for no reason (he wasn't even that far from his spawn) and resetting, which let someone else swoop in and steal him out from under me. A bit annoying as far as things go.
I've camped him all day today - I wonder if Blizzard has raised his spawn timer. He has never spawned under 3 hours and in fact it's been more like 3h20m and 3h45m and two straight 3 hours on the dot.
Will be continuing to camp and kill (when I manage to get the tag) until I obtain the pet.
Easily soloable as a Shadow Priest by the way, 472 Holy gear in Shadow Spec, and I don't even need to interrupt the bolt he casts. You just do not stand in the Void Pools.
edit; got another kill today at the 3h20m mark -- but was trained with mobs by a DK and Hunter who ganged up and brought over 8-9 mobs and I couldn't kill them all. Karr was at like 2% before I died, I tried but lost the kill to the Hunter.
Who then of course feigned total ignorance about the entire thing, despite the fact that I saw her bring her pet over to mobs then bring them over to me. :/
I really do not understand what is wrong with people who do things like that.
Word of caution: don't just fly in there when you see it standing there with hostile mobs all around. The hostile mobs do substantial damage even to raid-geared toons. Especially the Vengeful gurthani spirits. Try to pick off a few of the mobs to clear the space and you'll have a much easier time.
I tried the fly in and zerg method but was roflstomped by the considerable damage of multiple Vengeful gurthani spirits. Another opposite-faction toon nabbed the kill while I was doing the corpserun back.
TLDR: Clear out the mobs around Karr - the mobs whack you for a great deal.
edit: I've found the ideal spot to stand to safely kill Karr. Behind the big two webbed structures where he spawns. Around the time you predict he'll spawn clear the Guardian dog mobs near the webbed rocks and you'll have no issues with pulling extra adds during the fight.
As for spawn times I found the above posts to be highly helpful.
He is not a 1 hour repop. I have just camped him from last spawn to current spawn, and total time to respawn was 2 hours (and a few minutes, popped while I was getting food).
I have since waited another hour and no repop.
Melee make sure to move away from him when he begins casting the Voidcloud thing so that he won't cast it on himself. Can be a pain to get him out of it.
I think it has been said before, but from my experience during the day he was spawning pretty much on the hour down to the minute after each kill. After about 10pm (going off my server time/East coast) it was taking him around 2-3 hours to spawn. It took me 15 kills before I saw a pet drop.
If you pull him to the south along the wall, the only npcs are possibly 3 dogs (the 2 with him and one more), a spirit that patrols there every two minutes or so, and then 10 wasps against the trees, just do it slowly so you don't lose aggro.
Here's a waypoint to him, if you're having difficulties with the wowhead map like myself. :)
/way Dread Wastes 71.8, 37.6 Karr the Darkener
Hope this helps!
As of this posting I've been sitting on his spawn point for about two and a half hours without a spawn.
I found that the most convenient place for me to fight
is in the spot just North of where he spawns, in a circle at about 72.5, 36.4.
I clear the one
that pats close by and then I've got a patch of area that I can kite him around in a small circle, and this works just fine for maneuvering around
respawns after about 3 minutes so keep that in mind if it takes you longer to kill
To pull him, I just run close enough to aggro but I don't attack him... just run back over to the spot where I want to fight him. He will cast one
as soon as he pulls but then he will chase after you. As long as you don't hit him when he's close to the
, it won't come after you. I'm not 100% sure if the
will attack if you are still close enough to it when
hits you as I'm usually already far enough away by that point that it is irrelevant. In any case, just aggro Karr and then pull him away asap.
I've been camping him on an Enhancement Shaman to get
but it's the one item that I haven't seen drop. I've seen every other item on his loot table drop at least twice, including
Side note: He is soloable at level 85 on an Enhancement Shaman (ilvl 434) just by avoiding
, and casting
x5 procs an instant cast (when needed).
And just for reference, he does seem to be on a 1-2 hour spawn timer from what I've experienced. Here are the server times that I saw him dead today/yesterday.
Easy Peasy. Clear trash. Engage. Nuke him. He'll cast a spell which really doesn't hurt you that bad. Simply move out of the purple stuff. He likes to stand in one spot and range you a few times so you have the luxury of not worrying about his melee attacks. I've killed him with every single trash mob attacking me - all of the spirits and the lions. They tickle and their squishy, so just aoe. If you have Master of Puppets they'll all turn and attack your pet giving you time to heal up, read a book, check the laundry, then finish him off. If your ranged, you just nuke him and try to beat your last 30 second kill.
What? Still no comment about the Knight Rider 80s Series? Archenemy of KITT and Michael Knight? No bells ringing? Damn, im old. :/
is this soloable for a new 90 paladin?
Noticed there wasn't a good indiciation of his respawn times.. So I went ahead and recorded this while I camped him.
Looks like his timer is roughly 45min - 60min. Despite what previous posts guess.
*These times were when he was killed.
Karr the Darkener
-Missed the time here
-Missed the time here.
I solo'd this on my Beast Mastery Hunter at level 85 ilvl 409. I did use
Flask of Spring Blossoms
. I also had some Master Healing Potion whenever my health got too low.
I cleared the mobs around him. You can also kill the lion statues on both sides of him as well, if you're careful to move them away from him. I let my pet tank him, while I dodged his aoe spells. Pretty straightforward.
I also wanted the Mail chestpiece to drop, but it did not. The plate did instead. But oh well, at least I know that I can do it and I'll try again some other time. It was fun.
No problems as ilvl512 Assassination Rogue. Stay out of his Voidcloud though.
In WoD, this mob seems to be heavily farmed, since I fly past his spot frequently and have yet to see him once in 6 days.
Anyone notice that he appears to sometimes be in a phased area? I have killed him in the past, but now when I come across his skull on my map, it dissapears once I get close. Anyone know what quest I need to be on to get to him again?
For anyone wondering why this boss disappear when you get nearby - even when you can see the skull on the minimap - you have to complete
quest. After you do, you'll be on the same "phase" as Karr.
EDIT: It seems that you also needs to complete
(which is given by the same NPC).
So does anyone have a clear idea how to unphase this guy? I've done ALL the Pandaria quests I can find, and he disappears on me every time. I can't even /target him. Are you unable to kill him after completing the quests in this area? If that's the case...that's just not fair.
Not sure if this a bug or not, but I just killed him and read below, that he wouldn't respawn for another hour so I flew back up to the top of the wall to camp. Then I saw the skull on my map again, so I went back down and sure enough as soon as I got close, his skull disappeared and he was not there. Not sure, but this might be the reason he looks like his skull is on the minimap, but he really isn't there, because he was just killed by someone. If you have done the quests but he isn't there, then try waiting an hour for him to respawn and really be there. It worked for me.
I just wanted to share my experience with this guy and how he seems to Phase in and out at times.
When me and a couple friends were flying by I got the notice that he was up (Both NPCScan and SilverDragon alerted me) but when we went to down to attempt to kill him he would 'phase out' and we could not see him. His skull would disappear completely and he wouldn't appear until we zoned into Valley of the Four Winds looking for another rare spawn that was up (Bonobos, who we experienced had the same problem as Karr here).
We gave up, and it wasn't until a couple days ago that I ran into Karr again and had the same issue. I tried several times to get him to spawn by flying back out of range of seeing his skull and running up, flying between the two zones, etc. but he continued to phase out. The last thing I tried was flying to the Valley and then landing on the stone wall above where he spawns. I could still see his skull but couldn't target him from above. However, I had the crazy idea to jump down from the area I was at. And you know what, IT WORKED! He was still spawned and I got my kill no Grinder but I managed to at least figure out how to keep him spawned.
I don't know if this works for everyone but my suggestion is if this guy keeps phasing out on you just go onto the area above him and jump down. Might be wise to have some form of Slowfall when you do as you don't die from the fall but it certainly will cleave a good chunk of your health off.
Karr the Darkener
Took me 23 kills to get the pet Grinder. Well worth it though. If you're grinding this one out, keep faith, it'll drop!
