Here's the strat I made after PTRing/reading on this guy:
On the pull, Festergut will cast Gaseous Blight, which will cover the room with nasty orangeish cloudy stuff. This raid-wide Dot will tick every 2 seconds. Every 30 seconds, Festergut will cast Inhale Blight, which will reduce the raid-wide damage of Gaseous Blight, but will increase Festergut's physical damage on the tank by 30%. Every 30 seconds, this repeats; Festergut hits the tank harder, and the raid less. He will do this until he has +90% damage, and the raid damage is signifcantly reduced. On the 4th cast, instead of getting +120% damage, Festergut will cast Pungent Blight, which will hit the raid for about ~65k shadow damage before resists.
The way to survive this AoE bomb is by gathering 3 stacks of Inoculated. This spell is aquired by close proximity to the 3 people who have the Gas Spore debuff on them. After 12 seconds, they will explode and hurt raid members around them, but will also give them 1 stack of Inoculated. This requires a lot of communication, because everyone in the raid needs to aquire the debuff with minimum dps loss time on Festergut, because there is a 5 minute enrage timer on the boss, and he has about 42 million (?) health. If no one in melee range has a Gas Spore debuff, someone from the ranged group must come in to get the tank and melee, and if there are more than 1 (or 2, depending on how comftorble you are with the raid dps) are in melee, they need to move out to afflict the range. After Festergut casts his Pungent Blight bomb, the stacks of Inoculated reset and the entire cycle is repeated.
As far as tanking is concerned, Festergut will periodically cast Gastric Bloat on the tank, increasing damage by 10%. This ability stacks 10 times, but at the 10th stack of it, you will cast Gastric Explosion blow up your raid. To avoid this, tanks need to taunt at 8 or 9 stacks periodically.

Strategy
The Tank will pick up Festergut and keep him in the center of the room, melee attacks from behind as normal and ranged/healers spread out around half of the room more than 8 yards apart. Throughout the fight Festergut will cast Vile Gas on a random ranged player, causing them to then vomit on anyone within 8 yard which gives them Vile Gas also, so if players are spread out only 1 player at a time should get hit.
Once the boss is pulled the room will fill with Gaseous Blight which deals Shadow Damage every 2 seconds. About every 30 seconds Festergut will Inhale Blight, lessening the damage of Gaseous Blight but increasing his melee damage on the tank by 30%. He will cast Inhale Blight 3 times, giving him +90% damage. At the time when the 4th Inhale would come he instead cast Pungent Blight which deals ~50k Shadow Damage and returns Gaseous Blight to full and his melee damage to normal.
To survive the Pungent Blight, raiders must get stacks of Inoculated. Every 35 seconds 3 players will be targeted with Gas Spores.
Everyone must get within 8 yards of a player with a Gas Spore. If no one in melee is targeted one of the ranged must run in to apply the stack to them. If 2 players in melee get a spore one needs to run out to cover some ranged players. Good communication is needed to make sure everyone is in range of a spore. The Spores explode after 12 seconds applying 1 stack of Inoculated and deal ~2k Shadow Damage. Players must then be quick to spread back out to avoid multiple people getting hit by Vile Gas.
Throughout the encounter the tanks will be getting a stacking debuff called Gastric Bloat which increases their damage by 10%. However if the stack reaches 10, the tank will explode and deal 50k damage to the entire raid. Therefore tanks need to switch after 9 stacks. The debuff last for 100 seconds so the rotation will need to be very tight in order for tanks to not get a 10th stack.
This is a DPS check. Festergut has a 5 min enrage timer.
General Tips
This is a DPS check. Festergut has a 5 min enrage timer so only move/stop DPS to get under a Spore.

You need to spread out for the Vile Gas, then group up when the spores spawn.
Easy fight, if you've got the damage.

Just did 25man tonight. Killed it at 2 seconds before enraged though..
We failed so much time just because the tank was downed.
After that we try to let the healer who were responsible to heal the tanks standed under the boss so that they would not vomit. After this modifition we kill it in one attempt.

As a sort of benchmark for ten man guilds.
We ran with three healers for this fight. We had ~34k raid DPS and ~15k raid HPS. We had ~20 seconds left on the enrage.
As for a strategy, we had one healer on the tank permanently. After the first inhale, one of the raid healers went to tank duty since raid damage was minimal. After the second inhale all three healers were on the tank.
We ran with a Druid and DK tank. Druid would go to Cat Form when not tanking and DK would go into Blood Presence when not tanking to maximize the damage from the debuff. We also used Bloodlust after the first tank switch to maximize the damage of the first tank.
Make sure everyone gets three stacks of inoculated. With three stacks, GotW and Shadow Aura the Pungunt Blight only removed about 50% of the DPS' health. This is the best time to use a health stone.

Can anyone tell what his normal damage to the tanks are, before the 30% etc - on both the 10 and 25 versions? I didn't take note of that last night when I was there.4
If its "easily" healed, there is a possibility of a rogue evasion tanking the boss for the first bloat, or even the second possibly, and ending up with a +10% or even +20% damage boost for the next 100 seconds.

Festergut has
40440K HP
in normal 25 mode and a 5 minute enrage timer.
In a normal 25m setup for this boss, there are 17 dps, 2 tanks, and 6 healers. Which means that in order to down this boss, you have to have:
40440K (Boss HP) / 19 (Total DPS present) = 2128K (AVG DMG done for each DPS)
2128K (Avg DMG done for each DPS) / (5*60 <enrage timer in secs> = 7095 (AVG individual Raid DPS)
a raid average of
7095 DPS
(17 dps + 2 tanks). Once he enrages, it's a instant wipe. My guild's 2nd 25m group wiped on him 8 times when he was at 0.3%-1%.

Blizzard has historically inserted gear checks for tanks, gear checks for healers, and gear checks for DPS along the way to test any guild's progress through a particular raid instance. Festergut is all three of these, all rolled up into a fart-emitting (sound effects and all!), noxious bundle of joy. =)
My advice, from a healing perspective (10 man, with 3 healers)....
Assign one healer to be a full-time tank healer from the start. Position that healer directly between Festergut's legs (ewww), between the tank duo and the melee bunch. This will ensure that that healer is not affected by Vile Gas (assuming you maintain the minimum 4 players at range). Start the other two healers at range, with raid healing responsibilities.
After the first inhale, the tank will start taking 30% additional damage (and the raid will take less). Accordingly, you should begin transitioning one of your raid healers to shift more towards tank healing, with only occasional help on raid. By the second inhale (60% additional tank damage), that same healer should be full-time on the tank, and the remaining raid healer should start assisting here, as well. By the third inhale (90% increased tank damage), raid damage is negligible; all three healers should be all out on the tank. Yes, it is a dicey time, and here is where you will find out if your tank is undergeared! Have your tanks save cooldowns for the 3-inhale, 90% added damage phase. I found that a priest's Guardian Spirit (glyphed for shorter cooldown) is invaluable here.
The real key to success is making sure everyone communicates regarding the Gas Spores. If you are lucky, one spore will hit melee, and one will hit ranged; minimal movement is required in that case in order for everyone to pick up the Inoculated stack. The challenge comes when two ranged get hit, and one must run to melee, or vice versa. Have someone available who is quick at making decisions regarding who should run out and who should stay put. Having healers stay put, if possible, may make the difference between a dead tank and a live one, particularly in the 90% added damage phase.
We had one central ranged person marked with a raid icon. When a new Spore came up, ranged collapsed on that mark, to minimize movement. This also made targeting easy for any melee person who had to run out to "Inoculate" the ranged.
Have your tanks communicate clearly with each other regarding the stacks of Gastric Bloat. We had ours switch at 8 stacks.
Have your ranged stay at least 8 yards apart to avoid the pile-on effects of Vile Gas.
Finally, here's a strategy that worked for us the first time we downed him, and might work for certain other raids, as well:
We noted that we were able to DPS Festergut down to below 50% before the first Pungent Blight cast. This indicated to us that, in order to beat the 5-minute enrage timer, it might be more beneficial for us to go all-out for the final 42-45% or so - without regard to the Inoculated stacks. Our goal was to burn him once we survived the first Pungent Blight the "proper" way, before he could complete enough Inhales to cast the second. By adopting this strategy, we ignored the Spores the second time through and lost no DPS time to movement. It worked; we downed him with 31 seconds to spare...just as he was winding up for a second Pungent Blight (that we would have been woefully unprepared for, had we failed!).
All in all, a pretty decent little gear check. Enjoy the sound effects....they are priceless. ;)

For guilds trying to beat this boss on 10 man.
If you are going with 2 tanks, 3 healers and 5 dps it will require every dps to pull
5.280DPS
at minimum. This is assuming both your tanks are doing roughly 2.5dps each. Else you cant beat the enrage timer.
Good luck :)

Assuming your tanks will be doing 2k dps at least, you only need 5500 dps from 5 dps. Factor in the damage buff the tanks will get you can probably pass with 5k dps on average.

My guild downed the 25-player version of Festergut this Monday. I wanted to list a few tricks that may help you gain the dps needed for the fight.
Festergut has 40.4 million life {If I remember correctly) and a 5 minute enrage timer. 2 Tanks were used, as well as 5 healers. Our raid dps was 137,000, beating the enrage timer by 3 seconds.
Vile Gas (The shadow-crash similar attack that causes you to throw up) will target ranged players as long as 8 players are standing away from him. The effect lasts for about 10 seconds, which will reduce a caster's dps.
We had all but 9 ranged players cast in melee range, to avoid the dps loss. (The 9th being in case one of the 8 die, if one dies, he will almost immediatly cast Vile Gas on the melee, since it does damage to the raid members around you when you have it, this is almost certainly a wipe).
When looking at his room from the door, there is a black triangle in front (or slightly to the left) of you. There is another triangle on the north side. 3 spores are created in 25 player, one was marked with a skull, one with an X, and the last would either not appear or be a square. Depending on your mark, you would go to either triangle and stand in the melee. Skull was with the melee, X was the triangle by the entrance, and Square was on the north side of the room. Casters would go to whichever was closest.
If spores stack, you will recive the DoT twice, but the Inoculated debuff only once.
If someone manages to die, which by itself can lose the dps needed to kill him (if only dead for a few seconds) They will need to be rezzed right after Pungent Blight, and before the first spores appear. They will not recive the buff from it if dead, which means they will almost certainly die to the blight.
During his third inhale phase, a tank would use a cooldown, followed by a healer cooldown (Pain Suppression), healers would alternate their cooldowns, insuring that the tank lives up to and through the blight.
When a tank recives 9 stacks of his/her debuff, it would be taunted off by the other, the tank that had 9 will need to switch to a dps stance, turn off Righteous Fury, or stop attacking, he will easily pull off the other tank with the extra damage he will be doing, and get the 10th stack, exploding.
We found this a large gear check for healers, tanks, and dps. I hope that the stategies in this post were helpful in downing him!

Having a warrior for demoralizing shout, a feral druid for demoralizing roar, or a warlock for curse of weakness is not necessary, but makes the fight MUCH easier. Keeping the tank alive when the boss has 3 stacks requires the tank to pop his or her cooldowns, but having one of those 3 classes able to decrease the damage the boss does with melee hits makes it far less likely that you'll lose a tank.
This fight is very easy for the tanks - its just about taunting at 8 stacks, not pulling aggro when you aren't supposed to, and popping cooldowns when you are supposed to. This should take only 1 or 2 attempts before the tanks have their job down easy.
Its fairly easy for the dps, but it is a gear check on them. You need to do 5k dps while moving around occasionally. You need to stack to get inoculated and disperse to avoid being disoriented. The movement part takes only a couple tries until you have it down.
The hard part is on the healers because of the extreme raid damage being taken (around 13k or 14k damage per second raid wide), and with the difficulty of keeping tanks up when the boss is at 2 and 3 stacks. They need to learn to balance raid heals and tank heals, and to make sure they pay enough attention to make sure they also disperse and stack at he appropriate times and keep healing while stacking & dispersing. Losing the tank due to focusing on moving for spores, or due to getting too close to someone is a common occurrence, and for this reason, it will probably take the healers longer than anyone else to learn this fight.
It's a very simple fight to learn, but it demands perfection. Losing 1 player will result in failing to beat the enrage timer unless the dps are VERY good. And to keep the tanks up requires perfection from the healers & tanks.

on gastric bloat, tanks can make macros to change their spec, and weapon so it increases their dps a little with the "buff" like this:
DK tanks can make this macro to change spec and weapon when he reaches 8 stacks:
/cast Blod Presence
/equip Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter
(or whatever your dps weapon is)
and this when the other tank reaches 8 stacks.
/cast Frost Presence
/equip Ramaladni's Blade of Culling
(or whatever your tank weapon is)

A Druid tank is an especially effective crutch for the DPS race on this boss. An average geared (10-man ToC and Triumph) bear can switch to kitty after they get their 8-stack of Gastric Bloat, and pull close to 5.5k DPS over the course of the fight because of the damage buff. This helps the DPS significantly.
Just make sure they are the first tank to get their stack to maximize their buffed DPS time.

Just at ip for hunters right after Pungent Blight and the room goes back to Gaseous Blight (0 Inhales) it might be a good idea to use Detterence when he is doing Pungent Blight. It will deflect all damage and you won't take damage for 5 secs. Which is pretty nice say you miss spore or something. Mage can also use Ice-Block.

4 DPS were 5.3-5.6k DPS, and 1 at 6.2k.

To any shadow priests out there. It is easily possible to use Dispersion on each Pungent Blight, so if you don't have the spore you can just stand still during each spore, keep your dps up, help a little bit for the achievement (if you are going for it), and get yourself some mana.

Just tried this today on 25 man in a pug. I was main tanking him with 60k hp. Unfortunately we didnt meet the timer 1st time because people got oneshoted by his aoe-dmg blight attack. He hits me as hard as 30k on 3 inhales with cd. Just wanted to say that when I got hit by vile gas and got disoriented he just went for another target and killed bout 5 people before going back to me. Also as a tank i was doing about 7k dps after 1.5 minute through the fight with the debuff on me. So the actual dps requirement is a bit lower than those posted before since tank will do a fair amount of dmg as well.

10-Man Heroics Notes
The big new thing is Putricide's Malleable Oozes being thrown into the raid. When they are airborne, there is a small green circle indicating their target; the oozes explode quite a lot bigger than that circle, so give it some space.
To handle these oozes, we shift the positioning around: 3 ranged players stand in the center of the room and the boss is tanked near the wall. When an ooze comes to ranged, they shift around it without getting hit. When an ooze comes to melee, the tanks move the boss about 10 yards along the wall and the melee adjusts so as to not get hit. This kiting is very similar to Marrowgar: our tank moves towards the door thrice, then away from the door thrice. In this way, melee actually does more running than ranged, so the ranged DPS should be the ones standing in the center of the room. This kiting method makes Spores a little hectic, so raid awareness is required. Since everything hurts a lot more in Heroic, all 3 stacks of Inoculated are vital unless you want to be facedown.
Besides that, the only real threat is the enrage timer. Healing is severe but manageable; tanks with cooldowns can survive the third Inhale Blight, and so DPS needs to step up their game to get this Abom dead.
Minutiae: Dead, dead, dead!
Difficulty: 5/10. Everybody needs to communicate Oozes while doing their jobs, but it's really not that hard.

This fight on 25 Heroic is fairly easy as a decently geared (481 in this case) blood DK using the Plague Scientists.
Macro this into Death Strike (or some other frequently cast spell):
/cast Plague Stream
This will pretty much guarantee 100% uptime on the gnome's buff.
As for the fight itself, it's very straightforward. When Putricide casts Malleable Goo, just sidestep it a bit. Just make sure you're far enough away so that if you're hit with Vile Gas you don't wander into the radius. You also need to make use of gastric bloat. If it reaches 10 stacks, it will instantly kill you. However, you get a 10% stacking damage increase per application. Utilizing these stacks is required for a kill in current levels of gear. If you AMS as he casts gastric bloat, your stacks will reset. Make sure you cast AMS right as he's about to apply the ninth stack. This ensures you gain the most of this debuff. Don't wait until you have 9 stacks, as even if you AMS as he applies the tenth, you will die.
It's also worth noting that at 3 stacks of inhale blight, he starts hitting very hard (around 30k per swing). It's not terribly difficult to survive this, but just know you will need to make use of some cooldowns.
All in all, this fight is what it was three years ago: a gear check.
Edit: As of 5.3, your stacks will no longer reset on using AMS. You will have to use it as much as possible now to mitigate the stacks, and you'll also need some luck/strategy with disorientation to get a few bloat stacks on your plague scientist/army ghouls.

I got bored, so I decided to try and solo Festergut last week. After a number of unsuccessful attempts, I finally managed it. Here's my strategy (I played a Brewmaster Monk, I will link to the character at the end for reference):
Your main issues will come in the form of
Gastric Bloat
and
Vile Gas
. The former will still instantly kill you at ten stacks, and the latter will disorient you for a time. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for the gas, but I found a way to cheese the bloat for a time. Once you've hit eight stacks of Bloat, pop
Invoke Xuen, the White Tiger
. He should taunt Festergut before you get another stack, and he'll start taking them instead. At this point, switch over to Tiger Stance to do more damage and generate less threat (I stood there for a time before I remembered that I had more than just Ox Stance). With luck, both you and Xuen will hit Festergut hard enough that he'll be down before you hit 10 stacks.
And that's all there is to it! If I can find the time to record and edit a video, I'll tweak the comment and link it. Have fun!
