Lord Marrowgar is the first boss in Icecrown Citadel. If anyone is interesting how he looks you can look
, after a some days of PTR,Blizzard made a new, cooler model of him,if you are interested for his old model you can also look here
lol im digging the achievement "boned"
The question is, How much would contacts cost for this guy?
Who here thinks this is one of the most badass looking bosses EVER?
10man its pretty easy -
2 tanks stack to absorb Cleave
No one get infront of the boss except tanks
Stack all dps to make life easier on the bone spikes
dodge the blue flame walls
run from the spinning axe, (it dosnt really hurt)
as soon as the axe stops spinning there seems to be an aggro dump so allow the tanks to get the boss back before you start beating on him.
Watch out for the threat reset at the end of his Bone Storm.
He likes to gib the nearest person when he comes out of it so everybody needs to be on their toes for that. This is alot more dangerous than the Bone Storm damage itself which is weak sauce.
One solution i've seen to handle this is to have tanks drop Consecration, DnD, etc underneath him during his final stationary spin (lasts ~3 seconds) just before he comes out of the Bone Storm and reverts to Phase 1.
Pretty easy fight, my guild went into the fight without even doing a bigger explanation than kill the spikes that impale people. It was messy but even with 1 tank, 2 heals and 8 DPS left alive we took him from 50% to dead.
Have everyone stick pretty close to him but not stacked on him. His Coldflames don't land in melee range, but I have a feeling that having everyone stand in melee will bug the fight and have him go all kinds of crazy. However you don't want a huge distance between him and the range since the spikes can be a pain to kill if you are spaced out a lot.
So stay close, avoid the Coldflames, kill the spikes when they pop up and run around like crazy when he spins, the spin damage is pretty crappy and is easily healed through but damage is damage avoid it best you can.
Watch the aggro reset when he finishes spinning and burn him down.
All and all the fight is pretty simple in theory and execution, it is not a good set up for Lady Deathwhisper who is a bit of a coordination nightmare, compared to this guys near tank and spank.
"1 tank, 2 heals and 8 DPS
That means 25 man, smarty.
What level of fight is he in comparison to other dungeouns, my guild is thinking of running it so I need to do some research.
On normal, pretty easy. I wouldn't even say ToC heroic. If your guild can do ToC normal, this boss should be downable.
This abilities don't do all that much damage, and aren't that hard to learn (Don't stand in fire, nuke spikes, don't stand in a whirlwind.)
Make sure the DPS doesn't soak up damage by having the tanks stick together, they won't even take all that much damage. The spikes can be killed in 2-3 seconds of actually focusing, 2-3 more seconds of travel time if it's in a bad place, and it's not all that much damage either. The whirlwind doesn't hit hard in normal (No bleed), and if the DPS remembers to wait for a few seconds till the tank's got aggro again, we're back to the first part.
Downed this rather easily with a guild that can take ToC normal, and wipes on ToC heroic. Wiped a few times, especially around the aggro reset after the bonestorm, but he's not that hard. He's a step up from ToC, sure, but his abilities are easily avoided on the targets where it really hurts.
Quick tips to beat this on 10 man.
First, everyone should be close enough to not get hit by flames. Tanks will dance in the flame the whole time, which is np at all.
Second, as soon as you see him casting bone storm, get away. The closer you are to him, the more damage u take (5k close, 2k far). He will zoom to 4 different places; when he's at the 4th, make sure a tank gets on top of him and no one is closer to him than the main tank when he stops spinning, cause he drops aggro and one-shots the nearest thing (or a healer that isn't as close and threw a heal just before the tank attacked...).
Reposition, repeat, kill.
Lord Marrowgar enrages at 10 minutes.
The boss is immune to taunt.
If you are having trouble to see what is going on during the Bone Storm, you can type
or any other value instead of "50" that you prefer. This will increase your camera distance greatly and help you to see the fight clearly.
is it true that this encounter is considered "easy"? cause I had a wipe fest in my guild, with tanks getting hit for 30, 40k with lash. Np dodging from whirlwind or flames or killing the spikes. Actually, spikes are a priority, imho :)
My 10m-only guild (4/5 TotGC) ended up wiping quite a few times to this guy - he is not something to be taken lightly. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
He hits hard. Like 15k-20k every 1-2 seconds hard. Tell your healers to treat this fight like Patchwerk.
Immune to taunt. It took us a while to figure this out.
Number one cause of death was the period between him stopping his Bone Storm and when the tanks were able to pick him back up. There is a complete aggro wipe and he is immune to taunt, so if any of your DPS are tossing DoTs up during the Bone Storm they will die. You can have your tanks chase him around the room, but it's fairly random where he goes so you are almost better waiting until the 4th target.
You don't have to tank him where he's at. In fact, I recommend tanking him somewhere else completely unless your tanks have awesome computers. Running up to him I was sitting at a cool 80 FPS, but the minute I had my back to the ice wall (Frozen Throne) I lost over half my FPS, and it continued dropping down to 15 FPS once those blue fires started popping up.
Hope that helps.
To all melee dps, his hitbox is HUGE, meaning that you can stand 5 yards out of the target circle below him and still be able to hit. Also, the bone spikes he summons onto players have about 30k hp on 10 man.
Yes, hes alittle... big boned.
Downed this guy last night 10 man after an hour of attempts.
For those who are complaining about tank one-shots: the reason why wasn't explicitly stated above but implied in several posts + the boss description. The boss frequently casts an ability called "Saber Lash". This ability does 200% (300% on 25) of normal attack damage, which will pretty much one-shot a single tank. However the damage is split between the tank and his nearest (2 nearest on 25) ally in front of him, therefore you stack 2 (3 on 25) tanks next to each other. The key then is to make sure your tanks are stacked right on top of each other all the time so the damage is split up between them. The melee needs to make sure they are nowhere near the tanks or they have a chance of eating the saber lash (they shouldn't be in front anyway). Saber Lash damage is subject to usual avoidance and can also be dodged, parried, etc.
The keys to this fight (for us) were:
Kill spikes ASAP- all nearby DPS should switch, including melee if they're close. Make a macro to target the spike if you have to. This is 2x important if the person impaled is a healer.
Transitions out of phase 2- the tanks need to make sure they are right on top of Marrowgar after his 4th bounce- the whirlwind does negligible damage on plate and it is far more important to pick up the boss after the aggro reset. DPS, especially melee, need hold off on damage and run away from the boss because he has a tendency to wtfpwn the nearest DPS at the restart of phase 1
Don't range the boss too much in phase 1- treat it like Mimiron phase 1 and spread out RADIALLY but not distance-wise. Also your tank healers can sit right underneath his huge hitbox so they never have to move from fires- just make sure they don't accidentally get saber-lashed.
Given a choice between fire and the above points, stand in the fire- the fire actually doesn't do that much damage especially if you have MOTW + a resist aura + insane stam from WOTLK items
In general, treat the fight more like a survival fight and less like a DPS burn.

Pets are not targetted by Saber Lash. Yes, we did try to have a hunter's pet absorb the "cleave". Main tank took the entire thing instead.
One key point to remember is that NO ONE, healers, range dps or otherwise, should be standing directly behind the tanks. People who say their tanks are getting targeted by the flames are witnessing people BEHIND the tanks getting targeted with flames, and the tanks cannot move out of the way since it starts directly on them. This will almost always lead to a wipe when it happens in conjunction with the cleave.
This issue most commonly occurs in 25 man, after the first (or subsequent) bone storm(s). When the bone storm ends, the tanks have to reposition to pick him back up, and most range players do not realize they are standing directly behind the tanks.
I find his many bone related puns humerus.
If you healer is using grid, then his/her heals might be going onto wrong targets and hence not getting enough healing onto his/her targets.
This seems to be a bug with patch 3.3
Fairly easy fight, the only real difficulty is keeping the tanks up and not picking up aggro when he comes out of Bonestorm. He does indeed have one of the largest hit boxes I've ever seen-I kept yelling at one of the melee to back off, since he couldn't avoid the fire standing fifteen yards ahead of me and it made it hard for him to help with the spiked people. Bone Storm doesn't hit geared plate for much, and the bone spikes are easily DPSed down. Good tank heals and proper tank stacking is essential, though, because Saber Lash hits like a truck. Fun fight.
as a resto druid, i find HoT-ing the tanks a few seconds before the bone storm end help a lot.
at least have rejuvenation on both tank so you can swiftmend to buy 1 or 2 seconds for other healers' heal to reach them when they get sable lashed and try to get 2-3 stacks of lifebloom on both of them ASAP as well, it helps to buffer the damage and keep yourself clear of "my HoT ticks are too slow".
how many emblems of frost does he drop on 25man? seems to be different for everyone in my guild =/
i wasnt there on the kill but some people are 5 emblems ahead of others while the other people that where there are only 2 ahead and they do daily random each day and did the q's, weekly raid, so euhm, what gives? =/
Had a problem with his
Bone Spike Graveyard
dismissing my (Hunter) pet half the time I get targetted with one. Since this only happens half the time, it's probably a bug. This was on 25man.
Something I learned in a PuG on Sunday: don't use a plate DPS as a third tank in 10-man mode. Seriously, the raid leader convinced me (Fury Warrior) to stand with the tanks all the time. End result: 71g repair bill the next day.
Yes, I know it's common sense, but I can't even remember how the raid leader talked me into it.
Umm... I wanted to say this... The map that wowhead provided... pinpointed this boss
Lady Deathwhisper... I don't know how to fix it :(
The Lord Marrowgar is near blue icy thing on the map...
Is it true that tanks need to lose as much dodge for this fight as possible and stack stam/block? I was told that if one of the tanks dodges, the damage is split between the tank(s) that do not dodge? We tried this the other night on 25 man with tanks with 45k+hp and it seemed like on every try, a tank would get 1 shotted.
How much rep do you get for killing this boss? I'm guessing 250, but hoping for 500.
Anyone else out there only think of "WELCOME THRILLHO" whenever Marrowgar uses Bone Storm?
Another tip for people that are having issues with P1 fire and bone spikes. His fires start a few yards outside of his hit box so if everyone groups up right behind him the fires are a non issue AND everyone is clumped up with no move times for bone spikes.
Please note if you have any hunters in the group sorry we still have to dodge fires due to minimum range reqs. Also you will pretty much always be the target for the first bone storm leap.
It looks like when they were trying to name this guy they were like
" Okay so it's a big skelly thing, what can we call him? "
" Uhh okay what do bones have? No not pointy bits! Seriously.. "
" Okay lets call him Lord somthing or other, that sounds pretty impressive"
" Whats kinda nifty about bones? I mean, what features do they really have? umm "
"Lord Marrow? That isn't fear inspiring! he needs a name with a bit of.. Grrrr to it.. "
"Lord Marrowgar! Thats it! "
The traps are randomly arranged for each instance.
He sort of reminds me of the skeleton harvester from
Anyone know how much rep this guy gets when you kill him?
No longer immune to taunt.
Lord Marrowgar is now tauntable.
Recently nerfed (17/12/09) and is now tauntable, which took the danger from the phase two-to-one transition out of the fight.

When it comes to
Storming the Citadel
, in my opinion this is a pretty easy boss yet somehow keep you on your toes boss. It's a tank and spank/ survival fight. First off before attacking him, mark your tanks: this is important as it will help them know who to be on as it will help absorb the nasty Saber Lash. Since it does a whole lot of damage on one target the second tank is to help the MT even out the damage. Also blue fire will randomly spawn and follow a player: run away from this but don't run into people. Also he'll put on bone spikes on a random person: kill it asap as it drains 10% health PER second. Also every 30 seconds or so he'll do a bone storm (or as some may call a whirlwind) he'll target a random person and follow that person. Run away from him and also have players spread out just to have him follow the other person he'll target next. After that bone storm have the tank taunt him off and rinse and repeat. All in all this is great introduction to the whole Icecrown Citadel storyline and to help you prepare for the unexpected.
Kind of like a tank and spank fight.
This is the first boss of Icecrown Citadel.
When you first encounter the boss he shoots out blue firey waves on the ground, watch out for those.
there will also be "Impale" when a player gets impaled kill that spike immediately.
for bone storm, you dont want to be too spread out, because if marrowgar is on you you'll have a healer in LoS.
And at the last 4-5 seconds of bone storm, have the mt and ot go back in the middle so there will be sustained aggro.
ok this boss is realy simple
2 tanks needed in 10 man(3 tanks in 25 man)
dps stands behind him doing damage tanks must stay both front of it
if one tanks goes behind it or just moves away the cleave hits stil multi targets so stay front of it all the time both tanks
bonestrike wil be casted random, 2 dps is able to destroy it fast its about 40k hp in 10 man normal mode if its a healer all dps must destroy it its really important that no healer must die during combat if 1-2 healers die of the 4 healers it wil be a wipe... combat ress to be sure on healers only
whenever he does whirlwind, all dps wil stop and start moving from eoe tanks should do the same for 2-3 sec then hug boss (while he is stil doing whirlwind) does about 2.5k pys damage every 1.5 sec (10 man normal) but its hitting extreme damage when if you are in coldflame(( 6-8.5k per sec both combined
after whirlwind (boss resets aggro) wich means the last one dpsed or healed it wil take aggro ''rogues''(poisions do take aggro use instand pots to be sure)
paladins damage overtime dos also take aggro wich means you have to stay as far possible from the boss that if you get aggro the tanks have about 2 secs to take aggro back while boss has not reached you... hand of prot wil work :) rogues can also do vanish if they got aggro with (deadly pot)
circa after 3-4 whirlwinds boss is normaly down
Voice over: Congratulations, your MAROWAK has evolved into MARROWGAR!
Trainer: Go! MARROWGAR! Use Bone Storm!
Voice Over: Critical Hit! RANDOM PuG HAS FAINTED!
Everytime he uses Bonespike Graveyard on a Resto Druid a new Carrot on a Stick is born..
hes supposed to cleave the main agro target and the closest ally can anyone confirm or deny if just by having the 2 tanks together after bone storm will prevent anyone from dying or if he will cleave a 3rd 4th person.... we have downed him multiple times no but hes got a tendency to stop bonestorm in the worst possible place
what is the deal w. this guy dropping 2 pally healing plate pieces? On top of that, there's a healing trinket. Holy pally love much?
edit: didn't specify "healing"
I read somewhere that this guy can be disarmed, but tried on my warrior last night and he cannot be disarmed.
His "BOOONE STOOOORM!" has very long range so it is a little hard to avoid it. And by the way. Dont..
start attacking him right after "BOOONE STOOOORM!"! Aggro is reset.
Is it just me or does his face remind anyone else of The Reaper (in his 'child friendly' mask) from Soul Eater, or atleast the giant skull decorations on the school.
"BOUND BY BONER!"
IF you have them, use heroism after the 1st bone storm, and if you have a blood dk, make them use MoB when they join the fight
Wipe fest for us too. We had 2 tanks and 2 healers ( I was the main tank healer ) as well as 3 dps from our guild. We picked up 3 more dps and dug in expecting an easy fight.
Turns out our raid healer doesn't really heal much... so I was weaving in and out of borrowed time as discipline priest trying my best to keep as many as possible alive while outhealing the burst damage from the boss. That was a *!@#$, this fight's meant to be #$%^ easy.
: Raid healing on all. Very weak raid damage involved here, should
be hard at all to heal the raid dps, unless they're having a wank in the cold flames... Tank healing needs to be done in bursts and keep tanks topped up during every phase switch (tank n spank to Bonestorm and vice versa). When Bonestorm is over top up both tanks in whatever ways you can and over heal (Shield/HoT/PoM) on the tank who's about to get the real punishment
: Keep within 5 yards of one another or something like that. Have any one of your paladins, preferably the tank, if you have one, switch on frost resistance aura. Effectively tank and spank him making him face the opposite direction, in the same spot he starts at (can be moved to a corner, but the middle is more accessible and easily reached). Be warned that one Bonestorm ends, all threat is reset (dumped), so knock yourself out on abilities to regain his aggro quickly before the healers or trigger happy (and dumb) dps do.
: Easy encounter that basically consists creaming him for all he's worth, side stepping out of the cold flames (or running away when Bonestorm is on) and have at least
dps assigned on each bone spike that spawns. Burst this down asap. 1st priority when the spiked player is a healer - it can cause wipes.
First boss - as other comments mentioned - is there to gear and skill check you and your raid group. The reason we wiped over and over must have been because 1 or more of our players failed the check lol.
It saddens me to see that Blizzard, again, put no real thought behind "Heroic" encounters.
Just raising health and damage dealt by the Boss, doesn't make the fight "Heroic".
They should give these Bosses more and new abilities which simply train and ask for coordination, movement and speed of reaction.
Lord Marrowgar could have some awesome abilities. Imagine ice chunks falling down the ceiling above you, whom you have to dodge in order to not get stunned and a huge amount of damage, or let's say Marrowgar casts a "Boneshield" on him, and while it's up he will cast a single Bonespike every 4-4-3-3-2-2-1 seconds. Boneshield has a decent amount of life, and if not nuked fast enough while still killing every Bonespike, it simply wipes your raid.
But nope, all he will certainly do is more damage. Too bad.
However, I am wondering what would happen if the entire raid stacks up behind this boss because his Cold Flame actually starts a bit away from his hit box allowing ppl to avoid it entirely if they stay behind the boss closely
This is actually the easiest way to handle coldflame with competent tanks (and no hunters). Every last person stands on top of eachother INSIDE his hitbox, leaving only the tanks to get coldflamed. Tanks just move L, R, L, R . . . Each coldflame's start is gone by the time the next comes out, so all they have to do is strafe back and forth, giving them something to do. Stacking like this also means that bone spikes go down immediately, because EVERYONE is right on top of them.
On heroic, he hits harder and has higher health, his bonestorm lasts longer, the flames last for longer (which means more movement is required) and spikes continue to appear during the bonestorm. This makes it much harder than simply a 'more health, more dps' boost as it is much more healing intensive, tanks much move a lot more and have faster reaction times, people need to be freed from spikes a great deal faster in bonestorms to avoid fatal damage combinations (impale + flames + right underneath marrowgar). Because the bonestorm lasts longer, he has more health, and there is less chance to dps during the bonestorm, increased dps and keeping everyone alive is a bigger issue in heroic mode.
(Note, this post was originally incorrect, hence the posts beneath)
"Stick Around!" feels like a tribute to Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator
Yo dudes I found it %^&*ing epic to use it with
! Since the sound and the effect of DS stops at exact same time!
Just run macro:
/cast Divine Storm
Cracks me up everytime.
And it works of course with any spell if youre not paladin. Just change macro to /cast .
Its #$%^ing awesome!
New change as of yesterday: Marrowgar will no longer drop all threat after the fourth wave of Bone Storm, and will wait a little to start attacking after said Bone Storm. Almost a bit of a shame, but it does make life a lot easier.
stick around @ my tauren DK's chains of ice, awesome :D
/cast chains of ice
anyone know if there is a way to make the macro command so that you dont spam the /run playsoundfile (..) part?
Easiest fight in icc besides gunship in 10 man 1 person will get boned on a spike and it deals damage over time you need to kill the spike as quick as possible or the person the spike dies he will also do an ability called bonestrom and he will do a whirlwind attack when he charges you just run away from him. There will also be a flame on the ground called coldflame just simply stay out of it by strafing out of it. On 25 man the only difference is his attacks will do more damage he will have more health, and 3 people will get boned. Very easy good luck.
This is, in my opinion, the coolest and most badass looking blizzard has created so far.

HEHE, RET PALI'S RULE!
To kill marrowgar u need average ppl with about 5k+ gs. Its realy easy fight. U must be care only for Cold flames or Bone spikes (bone storm is realy poor - i saw only 1 i***t who dies in it :D) ..GL
I was wondering... Can Lord Marrowgar be done with just one tank? I tihnk it should be possible now with the 10% buff :). Our druid tank has 70k health. That, combined with some big healz should do the trick, right?
ps Don't consider this a serieus tactic, just want to try it sometime.
This Fight is preety easy to OT, just stack on Main Tank and Avoid Cold Flames.
He also drops some good tanking gear.
Heals and DPs Cant be infront of marrowgar or behind tanks as they will get hit with the"Cleave".
Beware of BONE STORM too.
IDK if it has any changes in Heroic Modes.
Edit:Forgot About Spike. Kill it ASAP
I've been told it's possible to PvP trinket out of the Bonespike Graveyard, but I doubt that it's possible and haven't had a chance to try it. Can someone confirm that the only way to get out of a Bonespike is to have your teammates kill it?
You know how he manages to choose another target during Bone Storms?
He has 4 heads... Cool, eh?
He also has no legs, so what Melee hits is his...
I'm digging this Boss...
My kingdom for a Lil' Marrowgar non-combat pet.
A Lil' Marrowgar pet wich would randomly yell "BOOONE STORM!" and start spinning around your feet would be EPIC.
Something that I believe bears mentioning is the heavy toll this fight will take on your graphics card. Blue fire spawns all over the place, and if you have your video effects turned up or if your computer has a hard time with some animations, this can be a lag-tastic fight. And as I'm sure you've seen from other posts, taking too long to get out of flame kills you and makes you look like a huge noob.
My advice is if your computer typically has a hard time with lots of animation, REMEMBER: turn down your video settings before the start of the fight! It just might save you from an embarrassing death.
When fighting this guy one thing came to mind, Bonesaw McGraw (from Spiderman 1), the way he say's "BoooneStoorm" it just cracked me up.
Lord marrowgar's name is a reference to bone marrow that is deep within specific bones in our bodies, animals and humans alike.
This is an easy fight, but don't let that fool you into slacking off. I'd say the number one cause of wipes on this fight is the spikes not getting DPS. Here's some tips.
- All non-tanks should make a macro:
/y Bone Spike on
/r Bone Spike on
/rw Bone Spike on
Most people have DBM but it can't hurt to scream it out just to remind the DPSers that they need to get going.
- The OT(s) should have a macro:
You can replace simply with focus if you make the main tank your focus. Put it on an easy to reach key and spam it every time cold flame pops up on the two of you, the boss casts Bone Storm, or the main tank repositions for any reason. This will automatically walk their character to the tank's location; if the off tank or off tanks fail to get their, the results could be disastrous.
- It is impossible to stress how important it is for the off tank(s) to make sure they are directly on top of the main tank at all times. If the main tank gets hit without a pincushion, it could mean a wipe.
- There is no real reason that you shouldn't get the Boned achievement. Now of course chances are most PuGs won't because someone won't think about the spikes, but it is really not a difficult achievement.
- About a third of the wipes I have experienced on this fight have been a result of the tank getting hit right after Bone Storm without the healers reacting fast enough. Healers should pay careful attention to when the boss stops spinning and continue healing the tanks then.
- Fires don't buff you. This applies to healers, DPSers, and tanks.
- Meleers will notice that Marrowgar has an enormous attackable range. Don't worry about getting too close to him, as it may result in getting hit by Bone Slice or being too close to escape Bone Storm in time.
All in all, it's an easy fight. He has a good amount of HP, so it may take a while, but any decent PuG should be able to take him down within two attempts.
Bone marrow is the flexible tissue found in the hollow interior of bones. In adults, marrow in large bones produces new blood cells. It constitutes 4% of total body weight, i.e. approximately 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs.) in adults.
is there any secret to defeat him, cuz' now is basicly impossible to do it,pls if you know, pls tell me,i wanna get better gear, and he has one of the best
10-Man Heroic Notes
The big killer in this fight is Bonestorm; it is no longer ignorable and is the cause of most of our deaths. To deal with the increased damage, we have our raid run in three different directions: the tanks run to the South, and the healers/DPS split between East and West. This way, we don't have excessive damage from Bonestorm and can catch a break when he spins at the tanks (who are least likely to die).
While Bonesotrming, Marrowgar will continue to cast Bone Spikes. A ranged-heavy group will have little problem in breaking these down, but melee-heavy groups must beware of running into Bonestorm or through Coldflame to get to the Spikes. Because of the intense healing in Bonestorm phases, a healer getting Spiked needs to be survivable: priests should use Divine Hymn (if safe) and Pallies should use Divine Sacrifice to keep the raid alive while the healer is freed.
The non-Bonestorm phase is pretty much the same... if you can kill Lich King, you can likely have one healer just relax and regain mana during this phase.
Minutiae: Bonestorms are more frequent and last longer; Bone Spikes have more health and are harder to break; Coldflame lasts much longer on the ground; and, of course, everything hurts more.
Difficulty: 6/10. Intense healing and possible RNG-screw make this is very stressful for your healers.
The boss hits like a truck, and his counterpart (old model) had a much more mysterious look, so they failed this boss, man. And the BiS off him is dumb.
Sorry Gandazar, but you're wrong on the whole MoTW not stacking with auras. When I am solo'ing on my pally, I use drums of the wild, drums of forgotten kings, blessing of might, and rotate between chromatic flasks or other flasks as needed and the resistance from all of these that boost resistance stack.
Aside from that, unless there is a second pally, the pally tank should be running devotion aura. People forget that if a prot pally took imp devotion aura, there is not only the added armor boost, but the healing boost to anyone affected by that aura. Imho, I'd rather take the 6% boost to heals I get over the piddly frost resist the aura gives, especially since bone storm's physical damage.
This dude is WAYYYY to easy to kill, Me(DK Frost Tank) Pally(Ret) and a Druid(Resto) three manned him.
Buy me Bonestorm or go to hell!
His BOOOOOOONE STOOOOOORM is a bit too...predicatble, don't ya think?
did u know that this is the absolutely COOLEST mob ever?
I like the quote "Stick around" when he impales people, it reminds me of Predator with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The forecast for today is slightly overcast with a 100% chance of BOOOOOOOONE STOOOOORM.
my kingdom for a lil' marrowgar non-combat pet
Then I think a lord marrowgar mount could be worth maybe a country or two...
Anyone who has an ability that spins them around for a couple of seconds, Bladestorm for example, make this macro.
Made that on my warrior, and I have three words: Best. Macro. EVAR!
Here is what Marrowgar's model is in WoW China. Very disturbing.
Edit - Fixed link.
Does anyone know if Marrowgar is able to cast Cold Flame to a target affected by Bone Spike?

And yeah the time was tight tight tiiiiiiiight :P
supposed to overlap? I mean, like if your standing next two blue fires, you should get more dmg/sec?
Here's something interesting.Since in Chinese WoW death can not be shown, everything with the name "death" is changed to "fade".Also Marrowgar look really strange in the Chinese WoW.Here's a picture (It's not mine)
Solo'able by an average Item Level 372 (lower could also do it) Marksman Hunter using a
. It took a few tries to get everything right; however the basic strategy is to stay nearly max range from boss and, when he is casting
to prevent being bone spiked. Don't stand in
and this should be an easy kill.
Bound by bone!
Playing around on the PTR me and a friend went into ICC just to see what it looked like. A pair of 85 premade hunters were what we were on, we cleared all the trash and got to this guy.
If it wasn't for me being a complete idiot and forgetting to kill the spike on my friend I think we could have actually 2 man downed this guy. Even after my friend had fallen to the 'Death Spike' as she named it, I got him down to 1.8mil health the first time before he enraged, and then 1.4mil health the second time before he enraged.
Quite the fun experience and just something I got the pleasure of doing even if we did die to him in the end haha.
Found my phone!
Found my phone!
Found my phone!
Found my BONE STOOORRRRMMMMM!
Just killed him as visious/ruthless geared(Mirror of Broken Images and Volatile Alchemist Stone trinkets)blood dk, not that hard trash was seriously harder!
Popped army at start..used 1 mysterious potion and healed few k with 2bandages. About 2min left enrage timer when he died. Just run away when he does Bone Storm and that´s pretty much it.
Now very easly solod by a prot paladin.
Don't stand in the blue fire, and on blade storm don't run away from him. I found it quite easly to heal by just using WoG, so i ended blade storm with more health than at the begining of it
This guy has such a sexy model.
Easy for Feral Druids cuz they are
As said previously 10man is soloable, but 10man heroic is too. You need about 17k dps to beat the timer, that and staying alive. He still hits resonably hard.
Doing it on a i381 DK was a bit tricky but higher ilvl should open it to more classes.
Now is extremely easy for hunter soloing
Just downed this guy in 10man Heroic, on a 396 iLvl Equip (Tank w/ a Gurthalak RF) and I actually found this fight quite easy to be honest. I had pulled 20k dps and Had 1 Minute until berserk. I took 1.8 Million Damage and did 3.4k Heals per second (1.8 Million Healing). I dropped about 70-90k health at most, and that was during his normal phase, once he began bonestorming I got my health back, and Popped AMS during that time, since there were flames everywhere. I believe the DPS requirement for this is a minimum of 18k. So, anyone trying to solo this, Good luck!
Rogue can solo this like it did except now if you solo lord marrowgar he still throws up a bones pike at you I kept on using faint and recuperate running away getting 12k recuperate ticks then when he would get to me i was like full health than u DPS him until your health goes down cripple him with cripple poison run again heal from your recup and if it is an emergency than use evasion
l and your prbably ready to solo him rand always have some nitro boots and sprint ability off cooldown use feint run away to get healed by recup its pretty easy and use these talents
Solo'd as 85, 394 bear tank.
Had to keep Survival Instincts, Barkskin and Frenzied Regen on cooldown constantly. Did my best to keep out of bad.
Fight lasted 11 minutes, no enraging.
Soloed 25man normal at 90 as a warrior in quest dps gear, prot spec, defensive stance, and a
random heroic shield
i had handy. Second Wind will keep most of the damage at bay, he can still hit like a truck and if shield block isn't popped almost every chance available he can still roflstomp you. Bonespike doesn't affect you solo (finally got
after 2 expansions...) and Bonestorm does minimal damage as long as you back out of the flames, making both abilities a chance for Second Wind catch up on healing (frequently at 10-20% hp).
Takes a while to whittle him down in defensive spec but with MoP there's finally a chance at a
every week without having to spend 3 hours in trade chat forming a group.
Curse of Torpor makes LDW impossible at my current gear level, adds out-dps second wind and its impossible to kill them and turn to dps with extended cds
today as lvl 90
270 str food buff
. Got last hp down in a bubble while bersek was on. Was so happy =) Cuz it took me 5 hrs to do that kill. Too bad the shard didn't drop :(
Solo'd him as a dk on 25man normal. ilvl 463 blood spec.
I beat the enrage by about 12 seconds.
Even at 90 he cranks out some high magic damage. I have approx 700k health in ICC and i used multiple cooldowns to keep going, but a few death strikes were more than enough 95% of the time.
--On 10man, this isnt necessary as he is just a tank and spank and is mostly trivial.
If you attempt this as a dk make sure you use AMS when you see the magic dmg start ramping up. There are points in the fight where he does very little dmg, then out of nowhere he starts pummeling you with magic (before he does bonestorm). That's when you need to pop AMS. other than that, just make sure you bring your beatstick.
Probably any tank that can put out more than 40k dps and heal themselves should be fine.
Currently Marrowgar is no-longer soloable. Bone Spike has been changed so that it will now target tanks. The script for it used to target players who were not top in threat.
list for the next month (after mop has been released)
-level DK to 90
-get him geared
-make some gold because its still early and people will buy mats for super high prices
-KILL LORD MARROWGAR 25 HEROIC SOLO AND HOPE HIS AWESOME BONE 2H AXE DROPS!
Just soloed 25 man as level 90 affliction warlock 480 ilvl. Tanked with
. Took 7 mins 30 sec.
He did not use bone spike on me or my pet.
Solo 10 man normal as Retribution Paladin.
Edit. Wrong video sorry. Fixed that already.
Soloed a 10-man Heroic version of Lord Marrowgar as a Demo Warlock with Felguard.
Harvest Life, Mortal Coil, Dark Bargain, Burning Rush, Grimoire of Service (Felguard), Archimonde's Vengeance
Demon Hunting, Imp Swarm, Dark Soul
Boss should be tanked by you in Dark Apotheosis. In this way you will not be a victim of Bone Spike. With pull and every Bone Storm you have to place 2x Doom on Lord Marrowgar while in Metamorphosis. Do not do this at another time, because you can die from Bone Slice. After placing 2x Doom go back to Dark Apotheosis. Coldflame is harmless, so you can ignore it. Good Luck and Have Fun!
Solod 25 man ade blood dk, got him on 2nd try. Just stay away from flames and make sure you time your cd's correctly...he does a ~50k dps after bonespiking (your immune, but he blasts magic at you afterward) for a bit and that can really knock you out of the game. Just recuperate during every bonestorm, its the best time to deathstrike and all because he doesnt do practically any damage! (my dodge was high enough to miss all his moves). 10 man version is very easy btw, any1 can solo it!
Here's a tip for death knights soloing or running this raid in general. When clearing out the trash before Lord Marrowgar,
one of the
. They can cast
on you for a 70K-80K heal every 15 seconds. Just make sure the MC stays up or else it is going to make this much harder. Unless you really want to fight Marrowgar while dealing with
during the fight.
Pet Growl OFF --- SPAM Distract Shot
Pop all cooldowns early. Kite, Disengage, pot.
Pretty easy kill for hunter. Main thing to prepare for is bone spike. In order to avoid dying you will have to quickly target it and order you pet to attack. This will be accomplished easier by A) playing as BM, B) Standing close to your pet so it doesn't have travel time, C) Using stampede or bestial wrath shortly before the boss spikes you, D) Using spirit beast and heal yourself while spiked to survive longer
Easy solo in 25HM for a 474 geared Blood DK. Control undead a Nerub'ar Broodkeeper and use his heal during damage spikes (non-avoidable magic splash). Else just hit as hard as you can, spam Soulreaper when Marrowgar goes under 35% (dual it with DRW to double the effect) Use AMS and Vampiric blood intensively. I killed him in 10m37s, but the enrage timer ended during a Bonestorm so he effectively enraged after. I had to deal with 15seconds of enrage but it's not a big deal since you avoid most. Easy fight for easy shard :)
Solo'd 25 man and 10H as prot war in dps gear
Hunter solo, I found an easy trick for hunter solo. Have DBM installed to give the warning before ''Bone Spike Graveyard" is cast. Turn your pets growl off of auto and only cast it when you need to but not before "Bone Spike Graveyard". Two second before it's cast hit him with Distracting shot and then unload with your big damage abilities to insure you keep agro from your pet. After it's cast you can let your pet get agro back to keep him from killing you. Did this on normal 10man and had no problems killing him. You can pretty much ignore everything but the "Bone Spike Graveyard"
This is one of the badass bosses in Icecrown Citadel, if you are caught in flanes and healers are not quick, youre dead instantly. Right?
As PandarenMonk mentioned back in 4.3.4, Rogues can play this game too, and in 5.2, Combat with 477 iLevel, it's (obviously) even easier.
Basically, glyph for recup, cloak, and shiv, have DP as your lethal, Leeching as your non. Have Combat Readiness talented, and prepare to just keep on moving.
DPS him like normal, waiting for his huge magic damage spike to use your defensive cooldowns (especially Cloak), use Recup and Shiv to recover health, and stay out of the stuff on the ground.
It ended up being a lot closer than it should have, as I messed up a couple of times on the defensive timing, but still managed to recover enough health to bring him down.
How to: Solo Lord Marrowgar 10 man HC:
If u want to defeat this boss when u are at lv 90 on Heroic(25) u need at least 6 PRO players.
If you are PRO u must know that u need to create a macro with thus funcion: /target Bone Spike so u can kill the bone spikes that the boss creates using this ability:
Bone Spike Gravyard
. U must kill Bone Spikes fast so they wont kill your team mates.
Macro is very important to target and destroy them in time!
Can be soloed by a level 90 destro lock ilvl 345 but DON'T use tanking pet since he will kill you with the spikes.Use grimoire of sacrifice instead along with mortal coil, sacrificial pact, glyph of healstone, soul leech and you are good to go and have an easy kill.
Solo'd as ilvl 467 disc priest. Start fight but casting mindbender and dot him. then it is just a matter of running around avoiding blue. When he starts to spin, cast mindbender to regain some mana. Also, you can shield and Hymn of Hope when he spins because it appears his damage is reduced. Cycle between Penance and holy fire and DoT shadow word: pain if you have the mana to spare. Bust of a few Smites if you think you are safe from dying. The key is mana conservation in this fight and you need to save enough to burst heal if need be. keep renew up on yourself and use PW:shield to speed out of the way of blue or to delay enough to get a penance off on yourself. Use Desperate prayer, Archangel and pain suppression on CD
Have Penance glyphed to fire when moving, and holy shock insta-cast. Use the desperate prayer talant.
I pretty much was at 40-60 percent health adn 20-30 percent mana for most of the fight and a good portion of my healing was through atonement, renew and the occasional penance on myself. It is a long fight and you are just widdling him down a little at a time. Be sure to pull aggro off mindbender or you will be boned.
Solo-able as a 90 tank for any of you that want his drops for transmog. self heals should take care of most of his damage, just don't bathe in the coldflame. If everything goes right you should finish well before the enrage. Also, i personally am a 469 blood death knight.
Soloed the 10 player version of this with my 85 blood DK in 417 ilevel gear including Jade Forest greens and auction house blues.
It's a tank and spank. I turned off the
buff to make the fight more challenging and it was still pretty easy. His abilities, including
, weren't that serious a threat.
is automatic if you solo Marrowgar.
Here's the video:
If you're planning on killing this guy solo as a warlock (25 man especially) you will find this macro very helpful:
/cast Sacrificial Pact
use it every time he uses the "bone spike graveyard" skill
I did is as destruction and always saved 1 ember for emegergency healing.
Soloed this on 25HC as a Prot Paladin (Using 463 Sword/Shield + 536/543 Ret Gear).
seem to be viable for this, but I personally would lean more towards grabbing
is required as it helps us kill the spikes.
are the three main glyphs I'd suggest here for the extra DPS.
is another possible option.
Tactic: The main problem with this fight on 25man HC is the Bone Spikes that are cast during Bone Storm. These will always hit, regardless if you are tank or not.
Thankfully as Prot we have both
which allows us to DPS the spikes while spiked. Simply use both of these a second or so before you are spiked aswell as make sure you have at least 20s~ left on Eternal Flame/Sacred Shield and they will die when you are around 20-40% HP (Depending on gear and such).
The rest of this fight is mostly a DPS race to beat the enrage timer (which isn't that hard with the 30% damage buff).
I cant seem to aoe with lights hammer the bone spike anymore. Anyone has the same problem and know what to do ?
Use a tank pet now, they always respond to your command to attack the bonespike on you. This used to be extremely hit or miss prior to 6.0.2 but it works now. Click the bonespike and then click the claw attack icon on your pet. You will briefly be in the cleave, however, your pet will get you down as if it were another player.
Just solo'd him the first time on 25 heroic mode as a feral druid (GS 571, but I can't really play feral so my DPS wasn't very high). When I was spiked, I panicked a little bit, tried every cast I have in my spellbook, then tried to release my spirit and panicked a little bit more because none of this worked and I feared to be spiked for eternity.
Finally I did a /reload. After being back in game, I was released from the bone spike and killed him.
Long story short: Maybe a /reload will help you to, if you are spiked.
I just solo'd this as Blood DK on 25 Heroic. The fight was completely not an issue at all except during Bone Storm when he would impale me.
It took me a couple of attempts to work out a way around it. If I dropped Death & Decay just before the impale it would kill it, but a 2nd impale would happen shortly afterwards. You can use Unholy Blight just before it happens to let the diseases slowly kill it.
I ended up using Control Undead on one of the
Servant of the Throne
who constantly uses
. It's an aoe frontal cone, so it ended up slowly killing the spike. Strangely, the pet bar for the mc disappeared when I was impaled, so I couldn't force it to attack the spike. However, the front cone slowly killed it automatically anyway. Don't worry about the npc while being impaled, Marrowgar still had aggro on me and the fire on the ground doesn't really do damage to the mc anyway.
I only got 1 Bonestorm, your dps would have to be pretty low to get 2. My DK's ilvl is about 550 in mostly LFR gear.
In heroic mode Bone Spike ability is bugged, it shouldn't work while soloing, but during Bone Storm it bugs out and Impale you. Report it please so they can fix it. (Yeah, i know you can kill him in 10 man, or normal, but i need a loot)
just tried this on my 90 mage. i hit my Mirror Image, and that counted as me not being alone, I got hit by the spike. The mirrors dropped him to half health, and then I just stood there, unable to do anything but die.
Found a way around the auto spike in 25H. I equipped TerraCotta Warrior and DYnasty of Steel. When he started Bone Storm I popped both. One of the two kept pulling me off the spike (I assume it was the damage from the winds). I got spiked twice but got off both times. Managed to finish him off after that.
Just a quick tip for rogues trying to solo Marrowgar: Spec combat then when you see him begin casting Bone Spike Graveyard use Killing Spree and the bone spike will not lock you down. If you do this he will likely die before he gets to use another bone spike. I've found usually after you killing spree he will only have another 5-15% left and will be casting Bone Storm, making him easily killable.
Best of luck rogues!
drops more money than
himself. Now tell me the plot twist :P
Just a funny FYI that just happened. If you are having trouble killing him before you get bone spiked after first Bonestorm, the debuff wears off after 3 minutes, so if you can survive that long you're good. Enjoy :)
Accidentally ran 25 heroic on my paladin. Got impaled by an unseemly placed bone spike. I was checking my emails waiting for my tank spec paladin to die so I can switch to normal and noticed that the bone spike wore off. Naturally I used lay on hands so I don't quite finish dying and went to finish the 10% marrowgar health with my conveniently replenished cooldowns ... and got spiked again and came here to type this in. fml.
High Overlord Saurfang is talking to Fordring at the gates, obviously gossiping about me.
"The paladin still lives? Is it possible, HIghlord? Could he have survived?"
"The power of the light knows no bounds, Saurfang. His soul is under great strain, but he lives. For now."
EDIT: I died this time around because of the berserk timer.
While soloing this in 25H, I discovered that his Bone Spike ability has a limit on how long you can be impaled for. If you survive long enough, eventually the bone spike will just go away and you'll be free. I didn't time it, but it was quite a long time and I swear that it happens. Go try it for yourself.
For Legion Death Knights who want to use the Bonestorm talent and have this sound effect with it, here is the correct macro:
As of 7.1, old WotLK raids started to drop pets and Lord Marrowgar drops
, which its all second row talents are named
with different damages, increasing with each level, of course, and sometimes it yells "
" and starts spinning.
