Having the mechanic in the fight with the "Void Shifted" debuff gives a reminder of the same mechanic applied in the Jin'do the Hexxer fight from Zul'Gurub with this
This boss is easily the hardest of those that spawn here. I was in a group that easily handled every other miniboss as well as the final boss but wiped three times on this one (we still have yet to succeed fighting this boss). The 15 second debuff is WAY too short to drop all of the adds so you will be dealing with leftover spawns the entire fight. Really, after a few spawns the healing required on the entire party is out of control. We fought this boss on normal and I can't even imagine him on heroic.
This boss has an ability,
Shroud of Darkness
, that reduces the attacker's (your) healing taken by 20%, and stacks up to 5 times. This makes it impossible to heal the AoE damage.
When the boss has this buff up, stop all attacks. The healing debuff you receive from attacking is magic and can be dispelled, but it's impossible to keep up with that while healing as well.
I look forward to this boss getting nerfed somehow. Either slower spawns, less damage, spawns doing less damage, etc...
The way it is now, its damn near impossible. Spawns adds constantly, all of which will fire a shadow bolt for 300 or so damage (AoE?) almost every second from multiple sources, stunts healing...
This would be ridiculous for a Sunwell boss. A l75 5-man boss? Ridiculous.
First time doing this boss (on Normal), our healer got the buff to kill the adds and so we wiped. Second time our rogue got it and we had no problems.
Boss is the same on Heroic. He's tough, but we beat him on the first try.
This boss is amongst the more challenging bosses this far in WotLK, but definitely not as hard as some say. My team with highest level 74 managed to beat this boss after couple of tries that gave us an 'aha, this is how this boss works' (we aren't the reading manuals types :). Like it's mentioned above, gain the Void Shift debuff and you'll be able to target the adds, getting too many of these sentries warrants a wipe even with a very fine healer. Keep steady DPS on the boss as the ongoing fight is very draining on the healer so you want to down him quickly. Getting him down once and you'll not have a problem killing him again. I've returned and fought him a few times on Heroic difficulty too.
Tip for protection warriors, use your Spell Reflection ability non-stop as this will aid your group's healer (especially if you have talent to even reflect incoming team mate spell damage).
Shroud of Darkness
- Boss casts this on himself, causes a debuff on the attacking player if attack occur which reduces healing on him/her. Dispel this magic on boss or healing will become unbearable. No one should attack while this buff is up on boss.
Summon Void Sentry
- Spawns static adds which do shadow damage to your party, only possible to target these while under the Void Shift debuff. The damage from these can be spell-reflected.
- Causes shadow damage while being channeled and at end of cast sends target into the Void world for a short time. During the Void Shift player is supposed to kill a few sentries.
Taking his abilities into consideration will make this fight lot easier and making it not much harder than other bosses in WotLK. He's having the same strategy on both Normal and Heroic but with tuned up difficulty of course.
Last edit: Corrected improper spelling
If you are doing him on heroic you better have A LOT of DPS to burn him, his adds hurt, they also can be spell reflected by players who are not under the debuff.
Very easy to kill him if party has prot war with massreflect. Simply stay together, when debuffed member reflects bolts, adds will be slayed. No target adds. Focus boss & kill him.
Completed this today on Heroic with me (pally tank), holy paladin, elemental shaman, frost mage, and demonology warlock. I was the only one in the group with any epics (only had 2, blacksmithing helm and shield) and it was still pretty easy. As long as everyone in the group understands to attack the orbs when you are shifted the fight should be pretty smooth.
Title bars work wonders on this fight. If you haven't changed your default key binding press 'v' for this boss, and instead of looking for the debuff just look at the fight and kill any new title bar that renders first.
Spell Reflect from a warrior will indeed hit the targets that are 'un-targetable' to you if you do not have the debuff on. They will still take damage and die - Usually 2 bolts but high damage from one will kill it, or a reflect + holy nova.
In addition to the stacking strategy and using spell reflect holy nova from a priest works well. Obviously healing and damaging at the same time. That fight ended up being the easiest one from VH once you stopped and thought about it.
Group wiped on him twice, actually killed him the first time but everyone but tank died. I'm the healer and it gets crazy toward the end with tons of shadowbolts just ripping you and everyone else a new one and interrupting casting.
Third time we actually killed the spawns and I finished with 70% mana. Easy. Just do it right.
This might get downrated, but atleast I spoke my piece >D
Does anyone else agree that this void has the coolest voice of all time? It sounds amazing...currently, I'm listening to it the whole time with the add-on called Bosstalk. (Outdated, you can get the new one here
For example, when he says 'Eradicate' I'm thinking - o @#$% we're dead, he says it on such an amazing way, and it's one of the few voices that is truly amazing!
Did this today, Our lvl 79 shadow priest said nuke quick !
Im the healer (shammy) and the DPS nuked, he didnt tell us anything about the shadowbolts etc.. but i managed to spam chain heal enough to keep the others up, when the boss died i think we all where at about 10-20% HP each.
You can TRANQ SHOT the Shroud. Do it every time, you'll be the hero of the day.
As a Resto Druid, I have a pretty solid healing strategy for this fight: keep up 3x lifebloom on all party members, tossing in a Wild Growth if I have the time. As long as they know to stop attacking when the buff is up, or we have someone to purge/spellsteal it, everyone stays close to full health this way for the entire fight.
I was running a little low on mana towards the end of the fight from all that spamming, but after innervating myself, I was close to full mana at the end of the fight -- so I'm sure I'd still be able to do it this way even if I wasn't as well-geared.
His face is red.
He has a cold. :(
Annoying boss, tried him a few times, dropped him very easily on heroic yesterday wiped three times today.
He keep shifting either myself or the tank so the adds build up. Getting people to use the defences is a pain too.
Edit* 4 times.
He really enjoyed shifting me as opposed to the dps.
Would be nice if people knew the encounter before hand :-)
The paladin spell Holy Wrath really shines when it comes to taking out the adds while void shifted.
Did this boss today, I was healing and I found it VERY hard to heal... good thing our tank was a pally; he bubbled himself as we beat him, and rezzed us... didn't know this fight at all so I was like WTF?
This boss is ANNOYING if you attack him when he has his debuff is on the party.
So you think Zuramat is tough eh.... Tired of endless wipes on heroic mode?.... Allow me to give you the answers you have all been waiting for on how to down this clown.
Zuramat the Obliterator has 3 abilities that may seem very overwhelming But with a good Leader to call out this abilities it is easily overcome.
1. Shroud of Darkness- reduces the attacker's healing taken by 20%, and stacks up to 5 times. This makes it impossible to heal the AoE damage. ( This is simple to overcome. When he uses Shroud of Darkness ability, group leader should tell the group to halt all attacks/stop dps.Or you can go with one of the following options below.)
- Mages can spellsteal-
- Warlocks Felhunter can Devour Magic-
- Sham Purge-
- Priest Dispel-
- Hunters Tranq shot-
- Warriors Shield Slam-
2. Summon Void Sentry- Spawns static adds which do shadow damage to your party, only possible to target these while under the Void Shift debuff. ( Sorry No way around this one. The sentry/s will appear no matter how much you beg Ad'al to stop the pain. Easiest way to deal with them is to have a Prot warrior use improved spell reflect and just have the group stack on you. If you are tanking as a DK such as myself then read below!)
3. Void Shift-Causes shadow damage while being channeled and at end of cast sends target into the Void world for a short time. During the Void Shift player is supposed to kill a few sentries.
This is where the group leader will play a critical role especially while puggin! All you have to do is let the group know when you see a Huge shadow beam (Void Shift) target a specific player..... That is the player that can see into the void and thus the only one that can damage the adds. If the player is oblivious to the big beam blasting them from Zuramat be sure you call out there name as a reminder. All players capable of doing AoE should Stop single targeting damage and unleash Massive AoE attack on the adds. If done in conjunction with the other players doing this there will be few adds left to AoE during this fight. You only get about 4-7 seconds to hit these adds so every second counts so be ready. Once your group understands the mechanics taking out adds should be a easy. If you continue to have problems killing all the adds you can always have a player use one of the 5 red lamps in the room to instant kill the remaining adds. But be Warned. You Cannot use the lamps right away as they require a 3 second cast to open/use. Trying so will end in a wipe as there are just too many adds doing to much damage and each time the adds hit they interupt the cast/open Sequence of the candles. So dont try to be a smart fellar as youll end up a fart smeller =)
Best AoE to use
-Mages Arcane Blast-
-Sham Chain Lightning-
-Priest Holy Explosion-
-Death Knight Death and Decay-
Yes the list goes on but im sure you get the point of this fight now and I hope this helps. If you have any additional info please reply and help these groups out.
Ran this patch 3.0.8, as warrior tank. Spell reflect was consumed by first shadow bolt coming from void sentries, did not stay active and reflect multiple bolts as per previous runs.
This was an real killer in my group. Got it as first boss wiped 3 times group disbanded. But I think got the tactics now:
He has got 3 abilities:
shroud of darkness:
When this is active and you hit him, you will get an healing debuff. Healing received will be reduced with 20%. It's stackable so I suggest stop attacking him for a few seconds untill the effect wears off. It's also dispellable.
Summon void sentry:
This are the little 'orbs' casting shadowbolts to every player in the group. They are not attackable when you are not in the void
This effect will do some DoT, and transports the player to the void, wich means that they will be able to kill the void sentry's and stop the shadowbolts they cast.
good luck :)
I don't know how effective Seed of Corruption is on the adds or if it works at all, i didn't wanna risk trying.
I spam IMMOLATE. I have 5/5 Bane so its relatively fast and it really takes 1 Immolate per add. It might take a couple ticks but you will have taken care of quite a few adds.
Tip: Deadly Boss Mods will warn you who's getting the Void Shift debuff. Alternatively, if you have nameplates set to on, (default hotkey V), you will notice these adds as well. These adds are right beside the dark shadowy balls that shoot shadowbolt volleys.
Any one with experience in trying for the achievement?
Can anyone post the sound file commands for this guy?
Does anyone know if this boss usually pops first or second? I ran 7 times yesterday and we never fought em.
Yet another fancy tactics -boss with some intresting details destroyed by welfare gear steamrolling. I bet none of post 3.2 dinged 80's even know how this is "supposed" to be done, but hey, who cares when you can just overkill it in 15 seconds.
Is this boss less common that the other ones? I've done endless runs of this instance and never seen this boss. Might just be plain bad luck...
If you're going for A Void Dance -- it's possible, though a pain in the ass, to solo.
(Or at least it was for me, as an 85 feral druid with all rep/JP/heroic items. No raid loot.)
Your main trouble is going to be the RNG -- not only the chance that you won't get him, but also the chance that you'll get a boss you can't handle. Lavanthor I might have gotten if I tried a little harder, but Moragg completely steamrollered me. If you get Moragg, or a boss you can't deal with, just hearth out and try again tomorrow.
The other trouble is time. Many times the next wave was ready to spawn as I was killing the last out of the previous squad. (And squads can hurt. If you're having trouble being squishy against them, let them run up to the door and start channeling. You can pick them off one by one then. But it takes time...) I could HoT on the run, you might want to have bandages or pots or whatever on hand.
So once you've gotten through that? Burn him. If you have any self-healing abilities(I popped to bear and regen'd), then back off when he does Shroud of darkness, and try to use them when you don't have ticks of that up. If you can't self-heal, you may as well just zerg him like crazy. Blow offensive CDs early, the void sentries are going to stack more DoTs on you the longer you take to kill him. And, of course, don't use your fan of knives or consecration or whatever and make all your hard work for nothing. ;)
A friend and I have been going for glory of the hero, and just had him left in Lockdown! and A Void Dance. We have done Violet Hold on heroic every day for over 2 weeks and he hasn't even spawned to give us a chance of getting the achievs.... any trick to making him come out?
