This guy is a bitch on heroic. He summons two orbs instead of one (like on normal) that must be kited, ala Kael'thas in MT. He does an arcane volley, and the orbs stack arcane buffet (magic dispellable) on people. The orbs also summon the entire group to them and spam a 1500 damage arcane explosion while they run away. On top of this, he hits the tank for 5k.
On heroic, this boss also gains a 10 second charge after summoning the orbs that grant him 125% damage increase. I was hit for 26k non-crit as a warrior tank. As soon as he starts summoning... GET AWAY.
On Heroic difficulty Xevozz will eventually spawn two Ethereal Spheres, you cannot let any party member come into direct contact with these, on hit is when Xevozz gets his 125% damage super buff and at that point you're in trouble.
Vacc's strategy above works, have your group at the top of one end and trail around the back path, for us the orbs stayed in the center area, and since they're LOS'd to you, there is no teleport. If they follow up the ramp just keep moving and try to keep them out of LOS. Kite him around the back one way, we got to from one end to the other before he recast his orbs, at which point you just turn him around and start over, he was dead before second pass ended.
Also a warning about his Arcane Barrage, it appears he'll cast 5 every time, usually one for every party member, but if you're out of Xevozz's line of sight, somebody will get more than one. Or if 4 people are out of LOS, one person is taking 5. Hope it isn't your healer, like it was for us.
This fight sucks.
We just did this with 2 druids rooting the orbs and that works well since you can pretty much hold Xevozz still after that and go all out with the dps. Tested and confirmed that he only gets his damage buff when he comes into contact with the orbs.
Highly recommend having roots/snares for the orbs on this fight.
Nastiest 5 man boss ever on heroic.
Cannot overemphasize that you do not want anyone to get out of LOS of this boss (on heroic). That may cause him to teleport the whole group to him, which will probably cause at least one person to trigger an orb, giving him a big damage buff, so his buffed arcane explosion does enormous damage to everyone before they can run out.
Besides teleporting the group, he will also target one person with extra missiles of his Arcane Barrage Volley that would otherwise have gone to whoever is out of his LOS. This is likely to insta-gib a non-tank.
I suggest kiting him around the edge of the large open area in the center. This should still give enough space for people to keep away from his orbs. Going up and around the perimeter pathway runs too much a risk of letting someone be blocked from his LOS by the walls.
None of this helps. Not one person has described the non heroic fight.
Uhmm because the non-heroic version is the exact same strat except with 1 orb?
For Heroic, there's a few important things to do here:
1) Get off the ground floor ASAP and stay off it.
Set up at the top of the steps on the left when it's time for this guy. He only spawns the orbs on the ground floor, and if he's on the ground floor when they spawn, there's a decent chance they will spawn too close to, or on TOP of him, and he will instantly get the buff, and you will die. Stand at the top of the left steps, and let him come to you. You have a good 15-20 seconds to DPS/debuff him before you have to move.
2) Don't get too far from the orbs.
- When he spawns the orbs pull him around the corner of the railing by about 5 feet.
- When the first orb gets to the bottom of the step, back him up to the top of the first ramp.
- When the first orb gets to the bottom of that ramp, pull him back a bit farther, midway in the biggest platform.
- When the first orb gets to the top of the ramp back him up to the far side of the platform.
- The first 2 orbs should despawn before they get to him now.
If you get ported:
Everyone has to run out ASAP, before the orbs explode. The tank needs to hit Shield Wall ASAP to offset his increased damage.
If he's below ~10% when the first set despawn:
You should be able to DPS him down just as the 2nd set of orbs get to you, backing up just a bit if you need to.
If you're short on DPS:
After the first set despawn, continue clockwise around the upper walkway till you are at the top of the right steps. The orbs will start to come at you that way, you simply reverse the movement process and move him back the way you came.
Keep him off the ground floor.
We did him today, and followed the advice above about moving the boss around. We started on the "left" steps and just kept going around, he died before we got to the end of the last steps. Was easy actually doing it like this. Really easy...
he sound like Gman from HL
There is absolutely no reason to run a wide circle up the ramps/stairs whatever. Coming from the healer perspective and as a shaman, the party loses the totem buffs, the tank goes LOS out of heals, and things just get messy. Then the healer gets cut off from the tank by the orbs after he summons them.
You can easily stay ON THE BOTTOM floor and successfully kite him. It has been done many times.
Please understand your healer needs to stand still and cast. Or you die. :)
A member of my group suggested a different way of tanking, rather than moving him around:
We successfully tanked him in the water where Ichoron spawns. We were able to avoid all of the orbs that spawned, and didn't have to move around.
However, the member of my group said to drag Xevozz out of the water when he's low HP. (I'm not sure why this is, perhaps make him lootable, though whether or not this is necessary, I don't know).
Also, I forgot to mention: When Xevozz teleports the entire group to the center, simply make your way back in to the water if necessary.
The voice on this guy sounds like someone trying to do a g-man impression from Half-Life 2. I keep expecting him to say "missster freeeeman..."
We tired the tanking in the water Strat as outlined by Frostalix, and found out that if he stays in the water when he tries to port, or just before you kill him, he'll despawn and you'll have to restart the whole instance.
I finished heroic VH about ten minutes ago. Maybe we just had enough DPS or whatnot, but I tanked Xevozz towards the back of the pool and kept him there the whole fight. He never despawned for us and we got to loot him. Hopefully that was just a bug for you guys, because keeping him in the water for the whole fight makes it a thousand times easier.
Is he supposed to shoot everyone for 20k aoe?
Cause that &*!@ keeps happening to my group
is it just me or does this boss have bigger chance to spawn than other bosses? because i've done about 25-30 violet holds total and this boss has spawned in almost every instance, and the core hound has spawned less than 3 times for example
im always pray at hc hoping not facing this boss
kinda hard and tough
Yeah, it's definitely a LoS issue. We 4 manned it on heroic with a Tank, 2 Mages, and a Priest. It took a while but we ran the 'gauntlet' and kept from being ported.
Gonna try it in the water next time.
Tank him in the water. Get the whole party underwater. The adds won't touch you. Worked on Heroic.
As of patch 3.0.8, pulling Xevozz into the water means certain death. As I just tried it in my run today, and my group was wiped in a blink of an eye.
I tried tanking him into the water, and after a small period of time the instance reset. IE, go back and start the run again. Looks like they put a stop to that method.
Hey my tank found an easy way to take him down.
we tried it and it was almost to easy =-)
For the past week, I've ALWAYS gotten this asshat for the second boss. I haven't been able to complete my daily AT ALL.
I want to punch whoever designed this fight.
Oh, hey, if he gets touched by the orbs he instantly blows the ^&*! up and kills your whole party."
Well I guess I could just keep him away from the orbs. Doesn't sound too hard."
Oh, P.S., we also gave him a spell that lets him teleport the orbs to him and blows you the $%^& up anyway, so uh, good luck.
I've tried the up and down the staircase thing, for some reason he still keeps using his teleport regardless of LoS, I've tried the water method, and almost three more variants of it to no avail. They had a patch today so I guess they fixed it as of
I actually got him to 17k life once, I got so lucky because as I was kiting him around the stairs he didn't teleport the first time, and since we have pro DPS usually if we could actually make it this far we'd down him. But guess what. HE SUMMONS THE ORBS RIGHT AFTER HE MISSES HIS TELEPORT AND TELEPORTS THEM UP THERE AS SOON AS HE SUMMONS THEM. WOW 17K LIFE. THAT WAS AWESOME I LOVE THIS. I've maintanked heroic Archavon in the most awful blues you'd ever see and that guy was a cakewalk compared to this bull *!@#.
Every single time he destroyed my group. I'm usually the last guy who gives up on something, hell, I don't think I've ever given up on an encounter. You'll see lazy people make excuses like "srry gusy i rly got to go," "lol wife aggro um later gyts," "i dont want to pay for this repairs srry by." I'm like, "Hell, I don't care about repairs, I play all day, let's give it another shot."
But oh no, this was the first time I've ever felt like just saying "GOD $%#@ING DAMN IT I HATE THIS GAME," and leaving to farm rep.
This guy is the ethereal embodiment of Hell. He took my anus and just ravaged it. Like, here's my anus, right:
...and here's Xevozz:
And here's Xevozz turning into a giant drill and savagely destroying my anus:
I hate heroic Violet Hold.
I fought him yesterday (1/29/09). I tanked him in the water. It seems they've hotfixed hm and he still can get the orbs. We managed to kill him anyway.
We only had one set of orbs spawn, and i (the tank) blew all my cooldowns to survive his enrage when the orbs got to him.
Overall, i think that as long as your group is not undergeared, the water tactic is still the best way to do this fight.
Finally after 6 runs I got this boss, the last one for the "Lockdown!" achievement. Kited him up the stairs etc, but once I tried to get him down the rubble he stopped there to summon yet another wave of orbs, but after that he just stayed there. And once we killed him his corpse just disappeared and the achievement didn't trigger. Though we did get the reputation, and the instance carried on like normal.
I'd recommend that you avoid any odd surfaces when you kill him, especially the rubble...
I have a holy pally, and i just found it easier to kite the boss up the ramp, and stay ahead of the tank, i noticed he casts a magic debuff on party members that causes damage to be increased, i just kept cleansing. so, even when he teleported us into the orbs, it wasn't really a problem for some reason, i think it's mainly a pulling and cleansing check.
He summons two spheres following the group (or maybe the boss)
these spheres are cannot get killed they deal very hight damage and you can be killed easy and fast
,to avoid them you need to pulling the boss with singly steps away from the spheres to do not get damage, since he doesnt have high health like the other boss try to dps him as much you can.And one last tip,the whole group must moving to avoid spheres not only the tank.
The whole group must moving to avoid the spheres
In Difference from Heroic he summons one sphere instead of two from heroic and you will have to follow the tactics from heroic.
In the good way he is way easier on normal so becareful on heroic
I think there's a game called Xevoz something, could he be a reference to it?
First couple of times we fought this guy, we kited him around the room to avoid the pink balls of doom. Tonight when we went in we tried it and the spheres summoned us to them and killed us. Either we didn't see this before or something has changed.
Not too hard if you know what to do on Heroic. Have your casting DPS on the rubble pile and have your tank pull him up the rubble pile and kite him around. It only took one rotation for my group to take him down.
Also, no matter what you are, do NOT get near the orbs. You will die. Fast.
However, the orbs are CCable by slow effects (not sure about freeze/morphs. Doubt morphs.). If you have arcane mages, have them cast slow on the orbs when they spawn.
As long as you make sure that you don't run near the orbs, this boss doesn't hit you too tough. But he is a hard one, so don't underestimate him.
Reading Bluerequiem's post was the first step in pulling me out of the rage I went into after wiping on this boss for the 3rd time, which is actually probably the tenth or eleventh time i've actually encountered him- and gotten my $%# kicked each and every time no matter what strategy I used.
"I want to punch whoever designed this fight." << my thoughts to the t, and since the person wasn't around I decided to bruise me fists on one of the doors in the garage. I seriously felt like kicking the living *%$! out of someone or anything to deal with the continued humilation that this npc seems to bring my way.
Some reasons why I hate this fight so much and wish ill to the mother@$#%er who designed it:
A wipe means you have to do the entire instance again, along with the repair bill you know you're incurring on everyone else
He does so many animations that it is nearly impossible for me to tell when the orbs are appearing, and guess what? They are exactly the same color as the prison doors along the wall
The strategy is "easy", or so everyone says, so when you blow this one over and over again (worse each time due to stressed nerves) you are pronounced a moron that doesn't know how to tank even if you can complete any other heroic without the least bit of difficulty.
You can read multiple strats on him, watch youtube videos over and over again, and have mulitple people explain the fight to you and still end up looking like a moron when everything falls apart- yet again.
I was so mad less than 30 minutes ago I wanted to scream and just break something, anything.
So in short, no it's not you, this fight just plain sucks and just assume that you are going to have to fight him before hand, otherwise this encounter can turn a perfectly fine day of questing, instancing and grinding into a completely miserable gaming experience,, complete with people to blame you for you supposed shortcomings.
I have made it a goal to beat this guy, but I'm not sure how many more failures on the exact same encounter I can take before I chuck my comp out the window. To make things worse, I don't even need any of the drops off of this absolute nightmare of a boss. This fight is confusing and is the sole reason I hate VH more than anything else in the game.
As long as your party is decent (DPS isn't struggling to beat tank in damage), army of the dead really trivializes this. Summon the army as his cell breaks open. The ghouls taunt, relieving the necessity to tank or heal. All five players unload everything into him. His health plummets
Of course, if he's not dead or near death when the orbs are summoned, you're pretty much screwed. The ghouls still taunt and cannot be repositioned.
The voice of Xevozz was provided by
, who also did the voice of Erekem and Meathook.
I apologize for my Darnassian but this boss is a f*cking a**hole in heroic
i sooo hate this boss
Just for !@#$s and giggles I tried to kill without kiting with a group all around 5k gs. He hit the tank for 150k. So continue kiting!
This boss is indeed a hardo boss, and worthy to be called a good boss. Whoever comes up with this boss is a really tactical person.
This was a setup:
Holy Priest (Healer)
Elemental Shaman (Me)
The tank and DK kited the boss slowly, then the healer and I had to catch up with them as the orbs slowly comes over to the party. I noticed that as long as we kited him equal to the speed of the orbs, the orbs will never have a chance to summon us on top of it, so kiting management is important. Fortunately everyone in the party knows about this strategy so it went fairly smoothly.
Unfortunately this can be a caster-disadvantage as you need to catch up with the tank kiting Xevozz. :(
All in all, your party must know where and when to kite Xevozz, otherwise you are just asking for an easy wipe. I just wish that Blizz would ever come up with an achievement for him....
Utter bull#$%^. Seriously. I mean, I'm sitting in 4pc T9 (who isn't?) and this boss pulled out a 25k+ hit on me. Twice. Wasn't a crit, I blocked part of it.
I've noticed that people keep saying Xevozz summons them to the Spheres but it's the
that uses the ability
on any 1 player in LoS so as long as the entire party is out of LoS of all the Spheres you will never be summoned.
Just tried to kite him on the non-broken stairs. Mr X. just stood there with his orbs and destroyed the group within 5-8 seconds. This is the second time this week I've seen this happen. Boss doesn't follow the tank.
I think we need some more dots on the map up there
This guy isn't too bad nowadays unless your DPS is really low. However,
don't underestimate his orb powerup..
I occasionally queue with guildies and RP walk through heroic dungeons while BSing on Vent just to make things a bit more interesting. We got Xevozz once and figured it wasn't anything to be worried about.. Even on a 264/277 bear tank, Xevozz effectively 3 shot me in a matter of 1-2 seconds. He's
If you're attempting to solo this, the "Don't stand still like a complete lemon" rule applies.
He managed to smack me for 60k because I stood still for about 8 seconds, wasn'tfunatall
beat him with one hit left till i died:) as a sub rogue
Dave Mallow's characters are among the only characters I mute my music to hear better.
