This guy is possessed by Mal'Ganis similar to how Balnazaar possessed Grand Crusader Dathrohan.

Admiral Barean Westwind does not aggro when you pull Abbendis. He uses his ability to become invulnerable.

After you kill Abbendis he walks out of the room with his protective shield, saying "I will see you weaklings in Icecrown... if you live that long!"
... Possible hint that this guy will be a boss in the Icecrown raid? Time will tell.

here's my question, if recall correctly i dispatched Malganis in "reign of chaos" and Balnazzar in "frozen throne", why have they returned?. well i suppose if magtheridon can make a reapperance than i guess those dreadlords can too, man it took me awhile to kill that fatass in "warcraft 3" blizzard just had to bring him back.

"assumed dead"? not nessecarily, blizzard(under its recent management) has had a less than wanted tendancy to revisit past warcraft history and adjust previous settings for questionable purposes . this most recent change of sorts is just another brick in a very large and economically astute wall. although sure i enjoy in meeting past enemies for glories untold as much as the next guy, there are certain events i would have preferred left in the past due to long and arduous hours of grueling matches against these demons on hard setting in "warcraft 3". blizzard, i believe, has plenty of material they should go forth with like a "war of the titans" setting were sargeras makes a return of sorts, having him and the pantheon clash horns in a galactic setting(yes this is a bit immense for blizzard to tackle, but a project along those lines would be worthy of a $80.00 or more price tag), or something like that, but a fresh change of NPCs would be appreciated.

By the way , the lich king could have been curropting High General Abbendis, because she sais "The Light" spoke to her in an icy voice, if you remember from death knight quests.

Despite him turning invurnerable after the fight starts, i found out you can actually sap him outside of combat =D. Serves him right for being a %^&* and sacrificing a woman for his cause. A redhead at that.

Seems to have gone missing with 3.2, did not see him in the room when I did this quest on my druid.

After you beat this guy, he runs off to Icecrown. There, you must finish a quest chain that will allow you to fight him in
The Admiral Revealed
, where after you defeat him, Mal'Ganis spawns and runs off. Seems like he won't be coming back in the Icecrown raid as I early predicted. :P

He can be mind controlled and used to tank abbendis. Odd considering he's boss level.
He hits for 2.5-3.5k, so it's pretty useful.

Something I've come to realize, as a speculation, that many have foreshadowed but I have brought together; the Dreadlords such as Mal'Ganis
ALL
have the ability to control bodies as their puppets and manipulate them, which is exactly what Mal'Ganis did. However, a speculation for why Abbendis felt overcome by cold whenever she was visited by 'The Light' could have been because, much like oher characters of lore, she may have been touched by Yogg-Saron. As we have seen in the Icecrown quests, the Faceless Ones of Yogg-Saron are encountered below Icecrown, and he is shown to be able to see into the future and into times past. If he is able to force the Scarlet Onslaught to the Icy North, he could eliminate them for good as part of some possible prophecy or the like. Otherwise, it could have been the crafty Dreadlords luring them out to their deaths for some reason or another. Only having had played Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, I know the Dreadlords are somewhat associated with Arthas, especially on the part of his journey in which the story of the Forsaken unravels (Sylvanas was nearly ambushed but learns of it and counters the attack, nearly kills Arthas, her assailer). This could have been a plot involving Ner'zhul, the current Lich King Arthas, the Dreadlords, Yogg-Saron, or a mixture of the 4 plotters in some twisted prophecy of things to come, each involving them in some way. As I said, this is all speculation and my lore is rusty, on top of the fact that this storyline has probably by now very well been unraveled and that I am just uttering nonsense that does no longer pertain to the storyline.
In any case, if fellow lore-lovers would be able to further give evidence of or speculatory statements that could further support or disprove of my guess of how the Scarlet Crusade became the Scarlet Onslaught, only further becoming an identity of the war on the Lich King, it would be appreciated. Let it be said that the Scarlet Crusade, although I do not know this and am just guessing, must have been a manifestation of the last wielders of The Light at Lordaeron when it was purged of the living. Either that, or, paladins and other mighty heroes were sent as an expedition to establish a base near the scourge corruption at Andorhal, or so they then called it. It is my guess that they started at the outskirts of Lordaeron and built their resistance eastward, or perhaps took ships 'round the continent to the far side, where Andorhal lie, and worked their way to purge the scourged land westward. In any case, after the event occuring at Lights' Hope chapel (might have butchered that name, sorry; can't look at ingame maps; servers are down), Abbendis, Mograine and others of high rank in the Scarlet Crusade were slowly coming to realise that their resources were spread thin and that to survive, they'd have to push back to the icy wastelands of the North. Laughably enough, towards the end of Abbendis' diary, she said she was holed up in her cabin due to sea-sickness, and said it'd be bad for her soldiers if they were to see her in such a state (their morale wouldn't be at an all-time high either way), and then she says she hopes that Northrend wouldn't be too cold, because she isn't built for it. With common knowledge, one would know that the further somebody travels from the middle of the world's equator, the designated hotspot of the world, the atmosphere slowly cools down (aside from the fact North
REND
could almost only suggest cold, frigid, skin-cutting winds and barren wastelands, perhaps). It's only a implication, but worth guessing. All that being aside from the point, the REAL point being that SOMETHING eventually convinced Abbendis and Mograine, for the better in some cases and for the worse in others, to flee to Northrend where the real threat on Azeroth lie. Interestingly enough, we see in the Forsaken storyline how High Apothecary Putress was a betrayer of the Horde, and how the humans of the Scarlet Crusade, bent on the destruction of the Forsaken and the Scourge, 'betrayed' Mograine and went on their on crusade to fight Arthas, leaving Mograine one less army to support him. If I remember correctly, even though Mograine and Darion formed the Argent Dawn/Crusade, I did not remember noticing the Scarlet Crusade, as closely associated as they are to Mograine, mix forces with the Argent Crusade (in full, in any case). While both the Scarlet and Argent had similar goals in mind, it seems they chose to set out on different expeditions; the Scarlets would only work with each other in the fight for the Light, while the Argent were prepared to accept the help of any outlanders (even the Horde) to assist them in their fight against the Scourge. Again, this is all in speculation and guesses, I may be misleading with various amounts of incorrect and misinformed information, but still interesting food for thought. Please, if you may, fill me and other lore-lovers in on this amazing story so all may get a chance to fully see how amazing the Northrend expedition was! If anything, fill me in, because perhaps I'm only one of few who hasn't fully seen the storyline; heck I was twinking experience at level 40/60 when Outlands and Northrend came out, and eventually level 80 by Cataclysm. I was slowly but surely catching up on the lore based around the areas, and then quickly decided I'd prefer level 90 over level 80. In any case, I hope somebody can throw in a little more on this interesting plot, or perhaps give some more ideas as to what was going on behind Scarlet walls all this time. If you've reached this point, thanks for your time, fellow lore-lovers!
