Crazy fight.
Your party controls a dragon each, from a choice of three (Bronze, Red and Green) and fight the boss on top of the tower using the dragon abilities.
The cache had an epic, a rare and two otehr items when I did it

This fight is the fight that everyone talks about, the one that you do entirely mounted on the drake mounts/vehicles.
As mentioned elsewhere there are three types of drakes - ruby, amber, and emerald. Ruby (red) is your tank, amber (bronze) is your DPS, and emerald (green) is your healer. You can organize your group's drakes any way you want - tank, 2 dps, 2 heals... tank, 3 dps, 1 heal... etc.
Eregos has two repeating phases. During the first phase he'll DPS as normal while spawning little whelps to attack you. The ruby tank's damage ability is like C'thun's Eye Beam - it bounces from target to target and increases in damage each bounce. So the whelps should be naturally taken care of by the tank, since he'll be DPSing the whole time anyway. The tank should also be using his evasion ability whenever it's up. Amber drakes should be stacking charges and DPSing, as well as using time stop whenever it's up to alleviate some damage. Since you'll most likely have 2 or 3 amber drakes, it's a good idea to establish a rotation for time stop so you can keep Eregos frozen as long as possible. Occasionally Eregos will enrage. It isn't a particularly nasty enrage, but if you have a time stop free you might want to use it. You won't immediately wipe if you don't, though. Green drakes should be healing like normal.
Eregos' second phase is when he goes incorporeal. When he does this he'll summon big, pink floating orbs that will follow party members around in the air, and explode for big damage should they get close enough. Kite these around at different altitudes to avoid hitting other party members also flying around, and once they explode at the end of the phase go back to DPSing. Rinse and repeat.

I finished running this place as the Emerald Drake (healer). Fairly simple system:
1) Keep 3 stacks of leeching poison up at all times. This will restore your health incredibly quickly in combination with the Bronze Drake's Temporal Rift (100% more damage done).
2) Keep Touch of Nightmare up at all times. It reduces his damage by 25%. I would suggest only doing this once every 30 seconds (the cd is 10 seconds), to maximize your health, while keeping the debuff up.
3) Dream Funnel. It's a warlock's health funnel, and channels 5% of your health into other players every second. This is your only way to heal people, and you can kill yourself very easily with it if you aren't paying attention. Make sure you watch your health as much as you watch your group's.

Since your personal stats do not matter and you're fighting this atop drakes, take your armor off to save on repair bills.

As setup we used 3 healers ( green dragons), 1 dps ( yellow dragon) and 1 tank ( red one) Worked fine.
The dps dragon has to use the ''stop time'' spell when the boss uses hes enrage cooldown ( lasting 12 seconds)

Essentially can be solo'ed by an emerald drake, even on heroic. Unfortunately there is some timer to the event and he'll despawn before you can finish him off. But if you get him low enough health here's what you do.
Fly down to just below the area where you zone in at
Start circle-strafing spamming your health leech
When you are at 100% with 3 stacks of leech, feel free to throw in the 25k damage spell
His fly speed is about the same as your drake, however he stops to cast arcane barrage, and generally by the time he's finished casting your out of the range of it. Only time he can hit you is when he's enraged with the faster-casting time buff, but you still should be able to outleech his damage as long as you keep strafing him.

As a warning, if you happen to die in the middle of the fight, and fall too far down and die, you will not be able get any loot from the chest. Happened to me earlier today.

i've found that one of the easiest combo is 2x red 2x bronze 1x green
the whelps dish out major damage and this combo is to nuke em down fast
2x bronze are necessary for stun rotation

We just did this on Heroic with 3 Emeralds, 1 of the other 2. We had 2 of the emeralds keeping an eye on heals, while the other one kept using the things that lowers the targets damage by 25%.
I have to admit, Blizzard did an amazing job on this expansion, and this instance was a lot of fun!

We just completed this with 2 bronze, 2 red, and one emerald. We had the red ones keep on the whelps, the healer well..healed, and the bronze spam clicked the channel until it was stacked up to 10. Once it was stacked your shock would do 130-200k damage. Also, the bronze have to keep up time stop whenever they can.

We tried this fight and wiped about 5 times on heroic with: 1 red, 2 bronze, 2 green.
We switched to 2 red, 2 green and 1 bronze and it was 200 times easier.

Protip: Take all your gear off for this fight, don't wear anything that has durability on it.
The drakes have a fixed amount of health, it'll be 75k HP if you're in all epics and it'll be 75k HP if you're completely naked. If your drake dies, you are screwed. You will not be able to remount and you'll take 5k damage a second (heroic) while grounded and that's if you didn't fall off the Oculus.
By taking off all of your gear, you will not lose durability for wiping. There is absolutely no penalty for fighting him naked.

Epic strategy for this boss:
2 bronze, 2 green, 1 red.
Red is spamming Martyr, green's are healing the bronze.
Bronze 1 channels on boss, gets 10 stacks of the debuff on boss, calls out to other bronze to start channeling. Once Bronze 2 is channeling, Bronze 1 attacks and hits for 140k on boss, causing Bronze 2 to instantly get 10 stacks. Bronze 1 channels again and Bronze 2 hits him for 140k. Goes back and forth about 10 times and you got an easy kill.

How to properly use each dragon:
While the number and type of each dragon that works for your group is likely to change there are some basic strategies for each type that remain constant.
Red Drake - First priority is Martyr to lessen damage done to the group. Basically keeping this up full time will make the healers job infinitely easier. Next is Evasive Aura/Manuevers since this ability can take a while to charge up and has a cooldown there are two main times to use this. A- when the dragon Enrages. since he will AoE all your drakes ( and you have martyr up so you'll take all the hits) you can easily lose 1/3 or more of your health per volley. Evasive Maneuver is necessary to remain alive. The other time to use it is when whelps spawn. again martyr will ensure you take a lot of damage and the constant attacks will give you plenty of charges too.
Searing Wrath is basically chain lightning in spammable form and your primary dps ability when Martyr is on Cooldown and you're not in danger of dying you should be mashing this button. it is the red drake's role to kill whelps. this ability is exceedingly good at that role. Although most whelps will die without you having to change targets due to the increasing damage per jump be sure to finish off the whelps if wrath isn't jumping to them.
Amber Drake - this is the easiest drake to understand but still very important to play well. there are two key roles you need to perform 1) you need to channel the 100% dmg increaser ( temporal Rift) until you have 10 shock Charges and then shoot a single Shock Lance which should hit for 75k+ dmg. If there are multiple Amber Drakes it is extremely worthwhile to alternate Shocking and Channeling as a Shock lance fired with 10 charges will not only do 150k dmg but it also gives the channeling Drake 10 shock charges of his own. which leads to ridiculous amounts of damage. It can be difficult to tell how many charges you have with multiple Amber Drakes so watch the boss's debuffs. Multiple Temporal Rifts channeled will no longer stack.
The Second role of the Amber Drake is to Stop Time. The best time to use this ability is when the boss activates Enraged Assault. As not only does he cast faster and do more damage but he will begin to AoE. This AoE will either kill Amber drakes rapidly or 2-3 shot your Red Drake using Martyr. Generally Speaking 2 Amber Drakes can stop time on every Enraged Assault if they save it for that purpose. Stop Time is also extremely useful in killing/stalling whelps but use it cautiously in this role as Enraged Assault and its Arcane Volley's are the boss's real threats assuming your red drake(s) are competent.
and the Emerald Drake - Ah the healer. The main issue folks have as the healer is that the drakes you're healing are actually considered pets so first and foremost make sure you can see pet health bars. Once you've done that you're halfway there..
Next is that it is important to maintain your 3 stacks of Leeching Poision. All of your other abilities require you to lose HP so it is important to have your HP going up as well. If you have at least 1 Bronze Drake Channeling Leeching poison should effectively channel out the life loss of your heal "Dream Funnel". Its also important to note that you probably won't want or need to channel it for its full duration often. the drake's Last ability Touch of Nightmare is extremely useful and lasts a long time. I recommend using it immediately after each "kiting phase" to allow time to heal back up as well as to ensure the debuff is up for the impending Enraged Assault that usually comes 10-15 seconds after each Planar Shift.
No matter how many of each drake your bring their roles never really change, so if you have trouble killing whelps bring a red, if red dies to enraged assault add a green to heal through it or a amber to time stop it.

Heroic Mode:
Successful using 1red, 3bronze, 1green
3 parts to this fight: Boss, Boss+whelps, orbs
Boss- allow red to tank and dps down
Boss + whelps- coordinate timestops, dps whelps down immediately then turn back to him.
Orbs- From what I noticed Boss phases out and becomes immune and orbs appear at 60% and at 20% health. Avoid Orbs, they do an arcane explosion that can easily knock you off of your dragon. (we flew out and circled around boss until orbs disappeared).

After wiping several times with 2 Emeralds, 2 Amber and 1 Ruby we managed to pull it off with 1 Emerald, 3 Amber and 1 Ruby. If your bronzedragons knows how to play you got a 50% uptime on the stun which really helps the healer.
Something we found important was to fly at the same place in phase 2. Else everyone's splitting and its hard to heal.
Otherwise it's a very fun fight, it really shows what happens to players when they cant rely on their gear. So I wouldn't recommend to PuG this one.

Best drake combo for heroic for us has been:
*Two reds (Tanks) one for tanking, one for chain lightning
*Two greens (heals) Make sure to keep leech poison stacked three times on the boss at all times
*One amber (dps) stop time and DPS

Heroic strategy:
Preparation:
Everyone in the group takes an EMERALD (green) dragon! Thats right 5 green dragons
Kill: Kite the Boss in big circles (not too big or he will reset!) (not to small or welps will kill you)
Everyone dot him and use your 25k second attack
fly in big circles.
when he goes phase 2 just complete one circle and then kite him all over again
easy. no one took dmg from welps and the dmg from aoe is mitigated by your leech poison
and you get two achievements for not using a red or bronze drake

Just completed on heroic mode.
First 3 tries we went with 1 ruby, 3 amber and 1 emerald. Then I switched from amber to emerald and we one shotted him. The problem with only 1 healer was that people was dying. That didn't happen when we were 2 healers, and everyone stayed alive until his death.

Ruby Drake
(tank) :
Searing Wrath
-- Breathes a stream of fire at an enemy dragon, dealing 6800 to 9200 Fire damage and then jumping to additional dragons within 30 yards. Each jump increases the damage by 50%. Affects up to 5 total targets.
Evasive Aura
-- Allows the Ruby Drake to generate Evasive Charges when hit by hostile attacks and spells.
Evasive Maneuvers
-- Allows your drake to dodge all incoming attacks and spells. Requires Evasive Charges to use. Each attack or spell dodged while this ability is active burns one Evasive Charge. Lasts 30 sec or until all charges are exhausted.
Martyr
-- Redirect all harmful spells cast at friendly drakes to yourself for 10 sec.
Amber Drake
(dps) :
Shock Lance
-- Deals 4822 to 5602 Arcane damage and detonates all Shock Charges on an enemy dragon. Damage is increased by 6525 for each charge detonated.
Stop Time
-- Halts the passage of time, freezing all enemy dragons in place for 10 sec. (1min cd)
Temporal Rift
-- Channels a temporal rift on an enemy dragon for 10 sec. While trapped in the rift, all damage done to the target is increased by 100%. In addition, for every 15,000 damage done to a target affected by Temporal Rift, 1 Shock Charge is generated.
Emerald Drake
(healer) :
Leeching Poison
-- Poisons an enemy dragon, leeching 1300 health to the caster every 2 sec. for 12 sec. Stacks up to 3 times.
Touch the Nightmare
-- Consumes 30% of the caster's max health to inflict 25000 Nature damage to an enemy dragon and reduce the damage it deals by 25% for 30 sec.
Dream Funnel
-- Transfers 5% of the caster's max health to a friendly drake every second for 10 sec as long as the caster channels.

A good macro for this as an Emerald dragon:
/cast Dream Funnel
Basically, target Ley-guardian Eregos, spam your bolts to 3 stack, and press the macro when you need to heal whoever he's targetting at the moment.
Also, remember, you can tab-bolt between the adds for massive regen!

Also remember to fight this mob naked. No reason to have to repair if your dragon dies and you fall to your death.
EDIT = As of 3.2, gear now affects HP and damage of your drakes in Oculus (similar to Ulduar), so you still have to keep everything on.

Just soloed it with a green drake on normal.
At 85% the other members of my group died due to confusion.
I started kiting him in huge circles, and made sure that the 3 Leeching Poison stacks were refreshed every 9-10 seconds.
Whenever the hp of my drake was above 75% and Touch the Nightmare was up I also used that skill to speed things up a bit.
The fight took about 18 minutes.

My last group was going for an achievement run. we did amber void with 3 greens and 2 red. very simple with one tanking and the other taking care of whelps. the highest hp green owuld use nightmare touch. if you save your evasive charges properly, you can easily evasion through an entire enrage (i got hit maybe twice during one enrage over the entire fight as the tank). we plan to go back and try ruby void tomorrow

Easy strategy for heroic Oculus:
1 ruby, 2 bronze, 2 green
Ruby alternates attack/evasion to mitigate damage. The ruby drake is also responsible for clearing adds, which is easily done with his fire attack, which is sort of a reverse chain lightning which gets stronger with each hop and hits up to 5 targets.
Bronze coordinate their abilities to maximize DPS. The bronze drakes are also responsible for time stopping whenever the boss enrages (watch for the buff!).
1 green will serve as the primary healer. The other will maintain nightmare touch on the boss and backup heal whenever necessary.
That's pretty much it. With 2 healers you'll have no trouble at all keeping your party members alive as long as the bronze dragons timestop the enrage whenever it comes up. The only other thing to watch out for is when the boss phase shifts. He'll become immune and fade out. Just fly away and keep flying until the little glowing balls he summons disappear.

I can confirm he can be solo'ed on the green drake. It took me 27 mins according to deadly boss mods. i just kept strafing and casting. whenever i was at max i hit the 25k button. The whelps never catch up to you. and when he goes immune i poisoned a couple whelps here and there for extra health.
and yes, i did get 2 achievements. the ruby void and the amber void.
the easiest way to kill him is to just get a group of 5 emeralds. If i can solo in 27 mins, we would be doing 5 times more damage with 5 people. thats about 5-6 mins.
Its possible with 5 ambers as well using the same kiting method. Even with Diminishing returns, whenever he can be stunned, with all 5 ambers focusing dps, 10 seconds is enough to take him down 10-20%.

IMO this is the best advice you'll get here.
The drakes can all be BUFFED! Pally buffs for sure at least; Kings helped a lot.
Pally shouldn't really tank though since they can't buff their own drake.

With an organized Timestop/Temporal Rift rotation going, I would have no problem believing that this can be five-manned with all amber drakes.
The damage one amber drake does with one Temporal Rift channeled up to 10 shock charges and then letting loose a single shock lance is astounding. I can't help but think "CRUNCH!" every time I see his health drop after that combo.
My suggestion for attempting an all-bronze five man (that's two drake-void achievements in the same run) is to assign the last amber to have used time stop to one-shot each of the adds, as they will all have a shock charge debuff up.
Another thing is if you can rotate temporal rifts the right way, one guy can charge up to 10 stacks of shock on him while another guy who already has ten charges up shock lances him. Then that guy who was temp rifting Eregos gets ready to shock lance once the third boss-fighting amber starts channeling temp rift. Repeat as necessary.
10-charge shock lances while Eregos is under a temporal rift may do enough damage that the "Make it Count" achievement becomes trivial.

Me and a friend spent 2 hrs 30mins on trying out different tactics and rotations on heroic difficulty. We had to replace the other 3 members twice as they were impatient and decided to leave after the countless wipes.
But we finally got him! We did it with 2 Red, 1 Bronze, 2 Green.
The Bronze
keeps up the Channel and once he hits 10 charges he uses his first ability and then back to channeling.
The 2 Red drakes
will just be spamming their 1st ability on the boss and every time he summons adds, they target the adds as it will jump to the boss and dealing a load more damage. Everytime they have about 7 charges of evasion they will use Martyr and the Evasion ability. Once the charges of one of the red drakes are used up, the other will take over. (Especially effective to keep one red drake topped up on charges for when the boss enrages so he can tank him through the enrage)
The Green dragons
will, as a green dragon do, heal the other drakes. No rotations or anything, just heal. Make sure that you have the 3 stacks of poison on the boss AT ALL TIMES, especially while the Bronze is channeling as he will get his charges much faster and you'll get more HP.
If any of you die, run back in, mount up and rejoin the fight. We had 1 of the green drakes do that twice!
This worked for us anyway, and i hope it helps.

this fight you need 2 bronze 2 ruby and 1 emerald dragons... 1 ruby shall pic up adds the 2 bronze drakes change roles after you time stoped when he says ''such an intolegans or something'' so first 1 bronze drake channels 3 then do 1 and after ''such an intolsomething'' u time stop then change roles so the one who channeld 3 then pressed 1 now spams 1 to avoid over aggro. Hope this might get usefull...

Ok just did this on Heroic. The entire instance went very smooth up to the last boss (me tanking and my first time in the instance. We wiped a good 6 times on this boss, trying out different combinations of drakes. I don't know if people just weren't using drake abilities correctly or what, but it seemed my group was making this MUCH harder than it needed to be.
On the 6th wipe, I was last man standing, on a Green Drake. Naturally I went into kite-mode (self preservation instinct kicked in). Making a wide circle around the middle staying in line with the top set of floating rocks and strafing the entire time (to the point of not even actually being able to see the boss, strafe enough that your going straight as possible yet can still spam your #1 ability, it will look like you're casting behind you). Doing the strafing I kept getting lower in altitude and eventually ran into one of the floating rocks, got caught and died... but realized that green kiting was going to be the winner. I tried to explain to the group, but nobody wanted to even try.
Round 7 comes along. 4-man wipe... I'm last one standing again. Boss is at 1500k hp . I instantly went back into kite-mode, this time using jump key to adjust altitude as needed and making a MUCH wider circle. A good 100y further out than the floating rocks that the chest sits on, and pretty far above them. Same strategy, spamming #1. The group keeps telling me to die, but I know I have this in the bag if they'll just wait...
If I stop to type, its over, if i put on autorun and stop spamming 1 to explain, its over. So I keep going. I start getting yelled at, meanwhile the boss is now at 100k hp, while I am staying consistently over 80% health....
Kicked from group. But apparently the mounts in this event cause the "You will be ported to your Hearth location" action to bug. I got no message, and the boss is ~5% health now. Maybe I should have bit it and just died, I don't know but I finished it solo.

Tried various combinations, first wanted to get one of the achievements, but since some of us hadn't done him on heroic before, it didn't really work out well at first. In the end, we settled with 2 Red, 2 Green and 1 Bronze, and that worked very well. It seems to be a very solid combination that provides plenty of healing (Lets one healer regenerate health while the other takes over), the necessary timestop to make things easier and the tanking to keep him off the greens.
Once we tried that combination, it went very smooth on heroic.

Just ran this with three reds and two greens, one of which was a druid healer that was still drinking when one of our ADD Rogues decided to start the fight.
The healer was standing on the platform that has the chest with the loot at the end, and we just kited him back and forth and only fought him in range of the druid's casts, and we finished it just fine.
Seems like a decent healer + this method would be ez-mode for all the achievements.

This is a simple fight on normal - haven't yet done it on heroic.
Our setup: 1 red, 3 bronze, 1 green (me :D)
What we did:
Tank - Basically spammed every ability as soon as it was off cooldown. Hit his chain lightning at every chance, hit evasion as soon as his health started dropping, and martyred people losing health.
DPS - We set up a spell rotation for Time Stop. Drake 1 would time stop first, then when it left, Drake 2 would time stop, then when it left, Drake 3 would time stop, etcetera. This made the fight a thousand times easier. Aside from that they just spammed all their DPS abilities. Held down temporal rift for a bit, then hit shock lance. Simple.
Healer - Extremely easy. Spam the Leeching Poison spell on the boss. When the tanks health starts dropping, click them, and hit heal. While the heal is being channeled, target the boss again. When Leeching Poison debuff is about to fade, hit it again to keep the stack up. I didn't try, but you can probably pop a few Touch of Nightmares if you want to shorten the fight.

Just a question: Anyone tried a full group of amber drakes? 5 amber drakes stopping time in rotation should keep him freezed through most of the fight, right?
1 min cooldown, 10 sec effect
50 second freezed in one rotation, only 10 seconds before the first persons stop time cooldown is over. Adds wont be a problem either with this method, because of the stack effect.
Of course we have the 10 seconds the players are attacked by eregos, but the dps should be in theory be high enough to kill him before he kills you?
Any thoughts if this will work?

Dying early sucks. I ended up being the Red Drake tank for heroic(daily) against Eregos. Eventually I died when he had 34k HP left. By the time I flew back to the cache, the quest reward item didn't show up for me, but another party member who died like 2minutes earlier was able to get it. Got gyped.

confirmed, read my strat below. didn't know he reset though, but solo'd him around 1.2-1.3 mil hp. took 10 min.
-----------------
i solo'd the drake fight at 1.4mil HP on heroic with a emerald drake. we were going for both the amber and ruby void achievements and my group died off but i had the wide counter clockwise circle path down while straffing away and ley would shoot me a couple times and stop to charge and get out of range. as long as i got my 3 stacks of poison on him before i got out of range again i was back to full HP before i got shot again.
the whelps were no issue because of the wide kiting.
key things:
stay way way wide. about 10-20yrds out side circle of the outer ring (by outer ring, i mean those 3 platforms).
don't worry about resetting him, if you strafe on the same height as he is at the beginning then you are fine. just don't fly above him or below him, there is a bug that he might reset if you do this.
it will take awhile, took maybe 10min to do 1M HP. so if you solo'd the whole thing it would be a 30min battle. never ever use nightmare while doing this, too much of a risk if something goes wrong in your path and you have to adjust.
on the bubble phase just keep moving in the big circle and when he cuts across the platform take him way way wide, again don't worry about resetting him as long as you are on the same height level as him you are fine. he'll shoot you a couple times but with 3 poisons back on you will just flux between 60%-100% the whole time.
might fraps if down the road, because a little hard to explain.

On our heroic, Ley-Gaurdian Eregos was completely a new experience for all of the members in our party. After about 4-5 wipes, we decided to unequip our clothing to prevent any further durability damage. Our setup:
- 1 Red
- 2 Emerald
- 2 Amber
We had the Red tank Ley-Guardian Eregos, while 1 amber focusing on using the Temporal Rift ability, and the other Amber using shock lance. As soon as the whelps appeared, we had both the green and amber dragons focus on the whelps to burn them down fast. As soon as Eregos becomes "enraged', we had one of the Amber dragons alternate between the time stops. Eventually, we downed him. Just got to remember the that he spawns orbs at 60% and 20%. Just fly away and make sure the red tank picks up Eregos first.
All of this was done on a pug group. Good Luck all.

Killed him for achievements on Heroic with 5 Amber Drakes. All kiting, 3 spamming lance, 2 channeling and everyone time stopping. If you try this, he becomes immune to TS after a few in a row and you get DR before that. It can be applied again in 30 seconds or something. Make sure you get Fort and maybe Mark before going at it. We had 0 deaths.

Here's the 5 amber drake strategy my group just pulled off on heroic:
Two groups:
Group A: 1 amber
Group B: the other 4
Pull and rotation Strategy:
Anyone from B Lances followed immediately by A using time stop. A then channels Temporal Rift while B spams Lance. Once 10 shock charges are up, B switches to channeling Temporal Rift. A waits until he sees 4 rift debuffs then sends 1 shock lance. A immediately switches back to channeling. Once B sees his beam, they all switch back to Lance spamming. Then the whole process repeats. It should only take 1 or 2 rounds of Lance from group B before the 10 charges are back up. Get this rotation down and you're set.
Time Stop Strategy:
You only get 3 of these per phase 1 because of diminishing returns. Set up a rotation starting with group A. He goes first after the pull. The second person uses Time Stop immediately after the first one wears off but only when it's their group's turn to Lance spam. You don't want to end your Temporal Rift channel too soon just to cast Time Stop. Third person in the rotation does the same thing after the 2nd Time Stop wears off. After phase 2, the next person in the rotation (from group B) should be ready to Time Stop immediately after the Boss starts moving.
Phase 2 Strategy:
Just try to stay together and kite the adds in a circle around the boss. They move pretty slow so you want to but some distance between them and you for when phase 1 starts again.
It took us about 4 hours of trying different things before we found one that worked. If you pull off the rotation right, you'll only get 0-4 adds per phase 1, and everyone should be around 85% going into phase 2. You should kill him on the 3rd phase 1 with most of your drakes intact. Enrage shouldn't be an issue because you should be pushing him into phase 2 right about the time he casts it. RNG resists are a real problem with this strategy. It's best if you don't modify the rotation though even when group A misses their Lance. All in all, this strategy takes about a minute and a half for a kill.

Can confirm that this boss is fully Soloable.
Basically as a group we tried for about an hour to get this boss down following the 2 red, 2 green and 1 bronze strategies above without any luck. I was getting frustrated but was determined to get the boss down. Unfortunately the rest of the group decided to leave but with the instance still clear I decided to give it a go.
I wiped the first time because I was using the Nightmare ability. The advice above is correct about not using this as it is too risky.
Basically I kited him on an extremely wide circle around the outside of the platforms and kept 3 stacks of the leeching poison up on him all the time. It took about 35 mins but I never took any damage from the small drakes or the orbs. My health never dropped below about 30k and as long as he had 3 stacks of the poison on him it was back up to 75k again in no time.
I see no reason why the whole group couldn't follow the above strategy with everyone having an emerald drake and get him down in under 10 mins.

When we tried: no abilities worked. Try to
disable quest helper

dismiss pet
. After that, it just went fine.

If you try to kite him and he evades you flew too deep - stay above the upper platform.

Ok, I hate this instance with passion! Here's how we finally did it, and I wouldn't advise pugging this.
Group:
1 Red (Tank)
2 Bronze (DPS)
2 Emerald (Heals)
1. Stay grouped up on top of chest during phase 1
2. Red tanks obviously
3. One bronze saves Timestop for enrage
4. Other bronze Timestops when first Bronze is on cooldown
5. Healers well, heal. Only one Emerald keeps the dmg reduction debuff up
6. FLY AWAY FAST on phase 2 (Immune) wait for it to end then regroup on the tank
7. Repeat #1
God awful instance all around. Got the achievement, never going again... Hope this helps!

This fight is very doable with pretty much any group makeup imaginable. I've downed Eregos with the following dragon makeups:
1 Red, 2 Green, 2 Yellow
1 Red, 3 Green, 1 Yellow
2 Red, 2 Green, 1 Yellow (My personal favorite)
2 Red, 2 Green, NO YELLOW (yes, 4 manned)
3 Red, 1 Green, 1 Yellow
5 Green
From my experience, there was not a whole lot of difference between the difficulty of the different attempts. The most important thing on this fight, is making sure all 5 people in the group understand how to use their dragon. I encourage you to move people to a different dragon if they have trouble understanding their role.
The yellow dragon is by far the least important dragon. If you don't have any yellow dragons in your group, the only change is that the fight takes longer (Red dragons can use Evasive Maneuvers to survive Enraged Assault, without an Amber using Time Stop). If someone in your group seems to be struggling with their dragon, put them on a yellow, as any mistakes a yellow will make will have little impact on the group's performance.
What I want this post to get across is this...
There is no dragon makeup that will magically make the fight work
... This fight is
COMPETENCY
based, not a puzzle to figure out the correct dragon makeup to use.
(I will add any new combinations I have successfully killed Eregos with to this post)

interestingly enough his enrage shows up as one of the dispellable via Traq. Shot and anesthetic poison according to Thottbot. If a group has a hunter (or rogue if erego's hit box is big enough for ground attacks) they can try to use them to bypass the enrage, although I don't think it's challenging enough to justify such a strat...

Regarding gear on this fight - many groups fight this boss naked, since at first glance your gear has no direct effect and suffers durability damage on each wipe. HOWEVER - through many attempts on
Ruby Void
we realized the drakes have a very high base chance to miss (in rare cases you have to cast temporal rift 3 times for it to hit and start channelling). Healers (who usually run with zero hit rating) are very likely to notice this effect even when fighting the boss in full heal gear.
Furthermore, the drake hit chance DOES appear to be affected by your own equipped gear - so equipping a few pieces of gear with large hit rating (ideally cloak, trinkets or jewelry to still avoid durability damage) can virtually eliminate the possibility of drakes missing the boss (which can be crucial for the void achievements).
It's already been mentioned above that one can and should buff the drakes with kings, fortitude and gift of the wild to increase their health, and the buffer can even buff his own drake as it comes in for a landing by quickly targetting it while mounting. Drakes are also affected by shaman totems dropped on the platform in range of where you fight (flametongue or totem of wrath, wrath of air and healing stream are obvious choices), and can be buffed with heroism - although its unclear how much the shaman buffs help in practice.

I deliberately posted this post as a reply post so that I can post way up front in order to let ppl new to fighting Eregos easy to see and help out so that they might have a easier time.
I do not take credit for what I'm gonna write but to all the others posted before me sharing information and tips as I'm gonna sum up their post and write everything in a perspective so that players who never fought Eregos will also understand what to expect.
First, couple of things you should know before engaging the fight.
You can buff the drakes with party buffs (Fort, Mark, King) for extra hp, stats - by 'Hothgor' (Rating Up his post will be nice thing, Press Alt+E -> Find -> type 'Hothgor' -> Rate up)
As you're fighting on top of drakes, take your gear off to save repair bills, but have your Reputation Tabard equipped - first mentioned by 'Xelestra', and 'tidus4eva' for the Tabard comment (although according to 'oscarucb' on the last page +hit rating seems to matter)
For abilities of each drakes (Ruby-tank, Amber-dps, Emerald-healer) see 'fibby's post on the 2nd page or go to
http://www.wowwiki.com/Ley-Guardian_Eregos
(this page basically has everything you need to know)
Before I begin with the guide, I should mention that I only fought Eregos
once
(edited: fought 5 times),
and as a Amber(dps) drake
(edited: +Emerald drake)
. Naturally, this post will be more focused on how important a role of a Amber drake is and how to control them properly.
Although I admit theorycrafting and actual practicing is a totally different universe but I have read every strategy of three drakes in wowhead and wowwiki so I'm pretty sure I won't be misdirecting by a large enough margin to make a difference.
Also, see the post by 'arco' just right below to see what Eregos will throw at you during the fight. (on a side note, Eregos's 2nd Phase will happen twice when his hp is down to 60% and 20% - by 'Blacklitning', and unlike what he said his enrage is quite nasty IMO)
Basic guide for each drake can be informed from green post by 'Rekka' below. But the main reason I have decided to write a new post is because even after reading several other posts it doesn't specifically say when to use Amber drake's Time Stop, and how to use Temporal Rift with maximum potencity.
------------------------------
If you're not aiming for the achievement, according to my theorycrafting, the simplest and fastest way possible to down Eregos would be either combination of (1-Ruby 2-Amber 2-Emerald) or (2-Ruby 2-Amber 1 -Emerald). 2-Emerald has the advantage of more healing to the tank and side-healing to the dps although with proper tanking you won't be needing much side-healing, while 2-Ruby has easy time with the whelps, more dps, and more tankage when Eregos enrages and one of the Amber fails to 'Time Stop' at the right time. And the fool-proof way would be (2-Ruby 1-Amber 2-Emerald).
3 Amber drakes will finish the fight much quicker but to explain and in actual practice of 'Temporal Rift' rotation for players who haven't fought Eregos before, 2 Amber is the way to do it.
---------------------------------
Although I think (2-R, 2-A 1-G) combo will be faster between the two of the choices above, in my guide which I'm going to write right after this sentence, I will be using (1-Ruby 2-Amber 2-Emerald), hinted by post of 'Celoot', because that was what my first calculation was based on. (according to my calculation it will take around 1.5 min if the HP of Eregos is what correctly above. The fool-proof way, 2 min.)
------------------------------
Before the fight, plan ahead in which direction your group is going to flea when Eregos begins his 2nd Phase and cast the pink arcane orb. It doesn't really matter where each party memebers flea but as a precaution so that when Eregos ends his 2nd Phase, the Ruby drake can easily protect other members by using 'Martyr'.
Decide which one of the Ambers is going to be Amber1 and Amber2 who uses Temporal Rift and Time Stop first.
Decide which one of the Emeralds is going to be Emerald1 and Emerald2. Emerald1 is going main-heal the Ruby other than reapplying 'Leeching Poison'. Emerald2 is going to use 'Touch the Nightmare' every 30 sec, not as a dmg spell but as a debuff. Emerald2 will also be reapplying 'Leeching Poison' every 12 sec and heals the Ruby or the other members taking dmg. Make sure to reapply 'Leeching Poison' before the debuff wears off, because when it does, you'll have to reapply them again for 3 times. (when you have 3 Amber drakes, you'll be sure to have 'Temporal Rift' 100% of the time, meaing doulbe the healing, no problem on both Emeralds casting 'Touch the Nightnamre' but let's play it safe for now.)
As long as the Amber drakes keep Temporal Rift up, it is quite easy for a single Emerald drake to keep Touch of the Nightmare up while also healing. The Temporal Rift debuff doubles the self-healing from Leeching Poison so you have plenty of HP to burn, and you only need to refresh it every 30 seconds -wowwiki.com
It helps a great deal to keep three stacks of Leeching Poison rolling on Eregos. This usually requires ending Dream Funnel or Touch of the Nightmare early, but prevents you from having to reapply all three stacks of the poison again -wowwiki.com
Engage Eregos by Amber1 channeling 'Temporal Rift' (you'll see a spiral tube connecting to Eregos).
(edited: note: you might not get the spell working at the first click because of 'can not cast while moving' error, don't panic but just keep your pace. It's annoying, yeah, but little margin of error will only slightly increase the time to kill Eregos, nothing more)
Ruby use 'Martyr'
(edited: this should be your priority one spell)
and picks up aggro. Use 'Evasive Aura' + 'Evasive Maneuvers'. Cast Searing Wrath for dmg. At the same time, Emerald2 use 'Touch the Nightmare',2 Emeralds use 'Leeching Poison' 3 times, and both heal tank
(edited: You do not have to channel your healing to the tank every second because even though Tank is in full health the channeling will still drain your life.)
. Amber2 aid dps by 'Shock Lance'.
As long as the ruby drake is mindful to use Martyr as often as possible, it really doesn't matter who has aggro from the boss - all damage will be redirected to the ruby. Evasive Maneuvers allows you to evade the damage from Martyr. -wowwiki.com
Both Ambers keep both eyes on Eregos debuff.
When the 'Temporal Rift' debuff hits 8 or 9 charges Amber2 channels 'Temporal Rift'.
When the debuff hits 10 charges and Amber1 saw Amber2 channeling 'Temporal Rift', cast 'Shock Lance'.
Amber1 right after casting 'Shock Lance', channel 'Temporal Rift'.
Amber1's 'Shock Lance' dealt 140,924 dmg and Amber2 immediately gain 10 charges.
Seeing after Amber1 channel 'Temporal Rift', Amber2 cast 'Shock Lance'.
Rigth away, Amber2 channel 'Temporal Rift'. Amber1 will gain 10 charges from Amber2's 'Shock Lance'.
Repeat.

"Charges" for the Amber drake are per drake / per target. i.e. One drake cannot use up the charges placed by another. So, for the final boss, you should alternate between using Temporal Rift and Shock Lance. Use Temporal Rift until *your* stack of charges reaches 10, then Shock Lance, then back to Temporal Rift. You DO NOT need to channel Temporal Rift for the full duration to reach 10 stacks! The rate that stacks are added depends on how much other damage is being done to the boss while you channel. If you use Time Stop, every mob present will immediately gain 5 stacks for you. This is a very handy tool for whelp cleanup since whelps with 5 stacks can be one-shot using Shock Lance. -wowwiki.com
4. (
Not so sure how many time he enrages but I'll assume he only enrages once
,
edited: he enraged about 3-4 times during my last visit, it might be a result of poor dpsing, not burning him down fast enough, it's hard to explain every detail of Temporal Rift Rotation during the game
) When Eregos spawns his whelp.
Amber1 use 'Time Stop' on Eregos
. Ruby use 'Searing Wrath' on the whelps. Emeralds use 'Leeching Poison' on the whelps. Meanwhile, both Ambers careful not to screw up the 'Temporal Rift' rotation.
Fire 'Shock Lance' only when you see ohter Amber drake casting 'Temporal Rift'.
5. When Eregos is down to 60% (approximately after 8-9 Shock Lances, 4-5 for each Amber drakes), he will summon an arcane explosive orb.
(edited: note, the orb detonates itself after certain time so keep enough distance away from it. DPS and Healer will die instantly. Tank will lose about half it's health)
Flea to the same direction as planned. Return, Ruby use 'Martyr' and repeat from the beginning.
6. During some time Eregos will enrage. Turn up your volume so that you can listen clearly
(edited: or you will see a Warrior's Death Wish looking buff on Eregos)
. He will say,
Such insolence... such arrogance... must be PUNISHED
When you hear this,
Amber2 use 'Time Stop'
(edited: Amber1 use Time Stop, on his 2nd enrage, Amber2 use Time Stop. As i said above, on my last run, he enraged 3-4 times. But if you're playing with 2 Amber drakes, CD will be up everytime he enrages so save Time Stop only for his Enrage)
. Again careful about the 'Temporal Rift' rotation.
7. When Eregos is down to 20% health (another 8-9 Shock Lacens after, 4-5 for each), he will again cast his arcane orb. Flea. Return. Ruby use 'Martyr'.
Repeat.
He will be down by then.
Hope this helps. Once you learn the basic strategy he should be one of the easier bosses as it's totally gear-independent.

There are a lot of good guides here already, but as I just pugged it *without* whiping, for once, I felt this strategy was more than efficient:
Ruby Drake: 1
Amber Drake: 2
Emerald Drake: 2
Ruby drake tanks, and takes care of the adds with the Searing AE damage.
Amber will DPS normally - one of them using the channeling ability to increase DPS (it's better like this then both just Lancing away).
Both the emerald drakes will keep up a stack of 3 poison leach debuffs AT ALL TIME. If the tank should go low without evasion, one should press the 2 Key (Touch of Nightmare?) while the other heals the tank (default 3).
This may seem like it takes longer, and if you want it to go a tad quicker, you should have rotation for the ambers to one stacking 5-10 stacks of channeling, then the other and change lancing aswell.
This tactic is as good as whipefree, as with 2 healers you can avoid so incredibly much damage.
*AT ASTRAL PLANE PHASE* You just run away (or around to the other side of the rings, if you like) DO NOT split up - just go in a "herd".

Note that by only taking a single amber you lose out on rapid shock lances. Each individual amber, when multiple ambers are present, deals much more damage than an amber isolated.
If you're good, you can get a good rift / shoot / rift / shoot rotation going with the other drake, and put out around 50k dps each. Any other way of doing it seems bizarre to say the least.
That said, the encounter is not hard (unless you want to go for a void, and even then it just requires a little cerebral activity). It's doable with one amber, but if you find it's easier with 1 amber than with 2, then that means that the guy who swapped from amber to emerald or ruby simply can't figure out how to play amber.
Here's a few tips for
ambers
, because they seem to get things wrong the most:
After you generate 10 charges, you only shoot ONCE. That first shot you fire, if the other guy has a rift up, will deal 130k. If you decide to shoot a few more, the other shots will do around 3-4k each. I've seen somebody (in a 5-amber Ruby Void run group no less) make this mistake (until he figured out something was up and asked me about it).
Also, after you fire your shot, the first thing you need to do is stick another rift up. This is because the other amber just generated 10 charges after you fired, and needs to shoot so that you can generate charges quickly.
Ignore whelps, the ruby should be handling it
Do not be alarmed that the ruby doesn't have aggro - he has no aggro abilities and you're doing at least 5 times his damage. Stay near him and his Martyr will keep you safe.
Sorry for the condescending tone, but PuGing void achievements taught me that so few people actually grasp the basics of this really rather simple (but brilliant) encounter.

Okay, before fighting, be sure to take off all durability armor and weapons and let the dragons get buffs (Pally should buff last since BoK is amazing on the drakes). Make sure, especially if you don't know if everyone's done this that they know what the fight is going to be like and what their roles are. The way how my group does it is this:
(2 emerald drakes): they will focus mainly on ruby keeping their dots on the boss and letting their drake rest if their health drops too low. Among the other drakes this is the MOST important one and preferably highly experienced players should be piloting them.
(2 bronze drakes): their job is to time stop whenever the boss promises to punish you and goes to berserk. Failure to do this quickly can usually wipe a group, so the players using this should have at least fought the boss once.
(1 ruby drake): the rogue tank of the group, this drake is the highest dps and can direct all damage towards itself. Whenever the player controlling this drake drops below ~50-60%, they must use the evasive skill, this will give the emerald drakes time to heal him. The entire fight, this player should be spamming 1 and executing Martyr whenever it's cooldown becomes available. This drake should be considered the inexperienced drake since it's the easiest to play. IF you choose to give up a bronze drake for another ruby be ABSOLUTELY SURE that the bronze drake rider knows what he's doing or he will wipe your group.
Boss Strat: Throughout the battle the boss cycles through 3 phases, the drakes seem to be optional, but I'm unsure.
Phase1: Enrage
Phase2: Whelps
Phase3: Orbs
When phase 3 comes around, the boss goes into an alternate dimension and a raid message will signify when he does so. You have about 10 seconds to escape and refrain from entering the range of the spark orbs which he emitts. They are fairly slow and easy to avoid, just make sure to move in one direction as a group. When the orbs have exploded, the cycle repeats and everyone needs to be back on the boss immediatley to prevent him from forcing you right up next to the invisible wall.
Spotting problems: Considering this is not a fight won with superior gear, it is up to the group to decide what is hindering them should they wipe. If the Ruby drake falls, and he is using 1 & 3 as specified above, then your problem is the emerald drakes. If no time stop occurs when the boss enrages, then it's a problem with the bronze drakes. If the ruby drake is being overall stupid, then drop him and find another suitable person of any class as quickly as possible since it's almost impossible to mess up the ruby drake. If anyone dies at the orb phase, then go over the boss strat again to ensure that people know to run away and specify the direction that you will be running in.
EDIT: Ever since a few patches ago, the drakes are affected by your iLevel, so just ignore the first step of fighting Eregos in your skivies.

Did this last night with two healer dragons two DPS dragons and a tank dragon. We kept the roles as we did when we started the healers healing, DPS was on the DPS dragons and the Tank was on the tank dragon. The way we did it was to have the tank at melee range and everyone else back a little bit attacking the boss. I was just spamming spell 3 which increases damage done to the boss while everyone else was attacking the boss, and was freezing time when the whelps came out. After around 5 mins the boss was dead. On the 3rd try anyway. Hope this helps

Now I understand why everyone calls this the worst heroic in WoW. Flying dragons is cool and all, but not being able to control your own character during a fight sucks.
The trash in this instance is annoying and can be very difficult... The boss Mage-Lord Urom, is a real pain, and will make you want to scream your heart out.
I did this for the first time last night. I wanted to see what all the complaining was about and now I know.
We ran with a feral druid tank, mutilate rogue (me), holy paladin, ret paladin, and elemental shaman. The shaman and I were the best geared, mostly 10/25 man Naxx gear. The tank and healer were in heroic gear and 10 man Naxx gear.
The two first bosses seemed like a tank and spank to me. Your healers need to be on their game for the aoe though.
Mage-Lord Urom was where our group was getting mad. We wiped twice and the elemental shaman pulled his internet plug. We attempted to 4 man and got the boss to about 195k life. I decided we should pick up another healer and that helped big time. Everyone posting above me seems to have a decent strategy. My advice is just to take the fight slow. Stay out of Frost bombs, moving quick enough so you are near a pillar for his arcane explosion.
The last boss... well he was very annoying and it took us 4 attempts to get him down.
The best dragon group in my opinion (which others posted above) is 1 ruby, 2 amber, and 2 emerald dragons.
When Ley-Guardian Eregos does his first
Planar Shift
fly back as far as you can, do not stop. The second time he does it, fly towards him, but go under him an go straight towards the platforms.
I think this was mentioned above, but we got our priest to do
Power Word: Fortitude
. The extra health was definitely a life saver during the fight.

if you cant do this, you're retarded. 2 bronze, 2 green, 1 red is the only way i've done it. only wiped once because healer lagged supposedly and didnt leach ( he sucked ). just make sure you're tank is doing what he's supposed to be doing, such as martyr kept up the whole time and evading when he has enough stacks to use it. bronze just have to time stop and keep up their dps rotation. healer...just heal. gg

I'm not sure how helpful this will be to anyone, but after wiping 5 or so times I thought I'd mention how my group did it. Many of our group members (this was heroic pug) hadn't done it on normal before so we were taking advice from some of the tank's guildies and experimenting ourselves.
We used the conventional 1 red 2 bronze 2 green. Greens were assigned targets to heal - green1 on dps and green2, and green2 on dps, tank and green1 with green2 helping heal tank when needed.
Greens each kept a 3x stack of poison on Eregos for the fight. One bronze kept up rift and the other dps'd like crazy, and the bronzes took turns freezing him when the enrage hit. Have to make sure the enrage is frozen ASAP.
At 60-50% he does the phase shifting thing where the orbs spawn. To prevent chaos (i.e. having people flying all over the place and out of heals range) we marked the tank and everyone followed him. Worked very well. He enraged instantly after the first shift, but that may have just been our timing/bad luck.
From then on, just keep the enrage frozen and follow the tank when the orbs are out. One of our greens died near 20% but we managed fine.
Good luck, this is an extremely frustrating boss. =|
Edit: Don't forget to use PW:Fort or MotW on your dragons.

Wait for DR before doing time, and always do time stop on enrage

This fight SUCKS! I hate it! it took my group 8 tries to kill him. each and every time was the same thing: he'd enrage for the second time, and I'd die, then he'd wipe the whole group. As soon as the second person using a amber drake realized he had to stun the boss, it worked much better. (Did I mention I was the tank?)
I am never, ever, ever, ever tanking this again.

We did it as 2 red, 2 green, 1 bronze. Had the green stack up poison and 1 of them keep the 25% dmg debuff on him. me and the other red would swap Agro with martyr to build up charges then evasion-martyr swap around 50% hp. When he enrages have your bronze use his time-stop.
RUN when you get the message "Ley-gaurdian shifts into the astral plain" then just go back to the the first strat. An actualy very easy fight when everyone gets their part right

#$%^iest instance to pug.
Either:
- someone's UI will fail against a non traditional interface
- people will fail to follow wth is going on in a 3D environment
- you get aggro from drakes while not mounted - you can't mount back to fight them
- someone will fail to use the drakes abilities properly, either early or at last fight (when the last ability pops in)
Overall the learning curve is very slow compared to other instances, no matter how much Blizzard will nerf it.
As a person who has been doing this instance for more than 30 times on 4 characters, I say 9 of 10 pugs will not make it until the end.
Don't be shocked when you see people leave at start of a random dungeon if this one pops.

The loot in The Oculus has been updated to be more rewarding.
From Blizzard's post
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22418861894&pageNo=1&sid=1#0
To encourage players not to shy away from the many invigorating adventures to be had in The Oculus, we have applied a change to enhance the rewards players are provided when selected for this dungeon via the Random Heroic option in the Dungeon Finder. Once Ley-Guardian Eregos is defeated, one loot bag per character will be provided in his chest in addition to the current rewards. Each loot bag will offer players rare gems, two additional Emblems of Triumph, and a chance of being rewarded the Reins of the Blue Drake. These fine treasures could be yours should you honor your fellow party members by besting the challenges contained within The Oculus! Keep in mind, however, that these extra loot bags will only be awarded to each party member if Oculus is selected by the Dungeon Finder when players choose the Random Heroic option.
In light of this change, the Reins of the Azure Drake will now have a chance of dropping in both 10- and 25-player versions of The Eye of Eternity.

If you accidentily get shot off your drake, and land on a platform without dying, you wont get the sack of gems when he dies, and you will not get credit for riding that perticular drake while taking him down(achievement).
I did however get the achievement for none of the partymembers using some drakes(did it with only dps drakes) ..so.. this might be an "exploit" in the happening. Use all drakes, but demount all except one 5secs before he dies, and you might get achievement for taking him down without using all drakes. Looking forward to seeing people confirm this. :)

As of 3.3.2, make sure you loot the chest personally. Tonight each party member looted an epic Cache of the Ley Guardian, but it was not automatically distributed. I can't speak for the others, but mine contained an
Emblem of Triumph
or 2, and 3
Twilight Opals
. I assume this item is new to 3.3.2, added to counteract the annoyance of this instance as a whole, however it's so new it's not even on Wowhead yet.

All these comments and no-one has mentioned the reference to Conan The Barbarian?
King Osric has the trio brought to his throne room, and tells them that their actions have brought him threats from a high priest named Rexor, to which he says
"What daring! What outrageousness! What insolence! What arrogance!"
I am sad to see hardly anyone has noticed this. For shame!

Over the course of human existence, I find it hard to fathom the unlikelihood that exclamations involving insolence, immediately followed by exclamations denoting arrogance, did not emerge before the Conan the Barbarian movie.
I suppose "Enjoy the fall" is clearly a loose reference to "Have a nice trip! See you next fall!" as well? It must simply be too much for a saying or a variation of said saying to simply enjoy frequent use in various forms of media.
On topic, it seems that everyone's wrapped up in the strategy of this boss or how much they hate Oculus. I'm surprised very few people have mentioned just how completely and utterly
awesome
this dragon's voice is, and even more perplexed at how many people have been downrated for posting some of Eregos's infamous quotes.
Between you and me, personally, I think Ere has a better grasp on the whole "I'm more powerful than you" shtick than ole' Maly in terms of idle banter. One of my favorite voices in the game, and by far one of my favorite dragon voices. Keri, Sarth, and Ere, I applaud you.
"Simpletons! You can not comprehend the forces you have set in motion.... The leyline conduit will not be disrupted! Your defeat shall be
absolute
!"
-Said immediately after Mage-Lord Urom is defeated. Eregos does not appear in the instance until this point.
"You brash interlopers... are out of your element. I will
ground
you!"
-Aggro, and likely his best line (amongst several gems). Really showcases the awesomeness of the changes in his tone, imo.
"Such insolence... such arrogance must be punished!"
-Periodic enrage. Probably his most well-known line.
"It is trivial to extinguish your fire...."
-One of several lines he says during his phase shift. I suspect this is said if the shift is triggered by a ruby drake, who uses fire attacks.
"We command the arcane! It shall not be used against us!"
-One of several lines he says during his phase shift. I suspect this is said if the shift is triggered by a bronze drake, who uses arcane attacks.
"No magic of nature will help you now!"
-One of several lines he says during his phase shift. I suspect this is said if the shift is triggered by an emerald drake, who uses nature attacks.
"Back to the earth with you!"
-One of several lines used should your drake die during the fight.
"It's a long way down!"
-Another of his lines when he kills a drake.
"Enjoy the fall!"
-Yet another drake-killing line, and admittedly the best one. This game needs more villains with tongue-in-cheek lines when they kill someone. Case in point? Ionar's infamous "Shocking, I know!"
"Savor this small victory foolish, little creatures.... You and your dragon allies may have won this battle, but we--
we
will win the Nexus war!
-Said upon his defeat. Not his best line, to be sure, but quite a few of the gems above this more than make up for it.

I attempted this boss today (85 Hunter, wearing 311 ilevel average) and have concluded that this will be impossible to solo for a long time when using just the drake. The simple reason is because of the whelp adds. While they are easy to kite the boss away from, as the other comments will show, the adds were buffed a long time ago to ignore their range after a short time. I tried a number of different options:
Red drake: Die faster than the boss.
Yellow drake: Can't dps fast enough alone.
Green drake: Dps too slow, whelps overwhelm you.
Kite the boss to a platform, hop off drake: Again, adds spawn too fast, and hunter AOE isn't very good.
My recommendation is depending on your class (I'm guessing Paladins would be great for this) use the last option of just jumping off of drake and killing the boss. The orbs do quite paltry damage for an 85; it's the add control and dps that will determine if you can kill the boss.

Soloable at 85 with decent gear with a green drake, strategy:
Stack 3 dots on Eregos at start and then cycle:
2 dots on 1st small drake
2 dots on 2nd small drake
2 dots on 3rd small drake
Refresh dot on Eregos
With good enough gear the drakes should die from the 2 dots. You will have 1 additional drake each wave but it shouldn't be a problem, the healing from all the dots should keep you up no problem (I never went below 95% and I had like 30 drakes when boss died).

Eregos IS possible to solo, for I did it a few nights ago. You need to ride the ruby drake.
After attempting solo kill with all drakes the only possible solution is with the ruby drake. Emerald is great, except when the whelp arrive: you cannot possibly kill them before next batch arrives and they have INFINITE range. Also, Touch of Nightmare is buggy right now and deals a lot more damage than the 30% of max it states, for my 200k health drake it dealt 160k-170k.
Bronze drake is self-explanatory, simply not enough dps for Eregos, not to mention the whelps.
Stay at max range, flying away from him at all times. When he stops to cast you should be able to outrange him.
After the cast you make a turn to the left if you're flying counterclockwise, else you turn right. Try to make a pentagonical flightpath for this. The only time you should make sharper turns is when he enrages and there are whelps up. Otherwise you can more or less ignore the whelps as long as there aren't too many alive as the whelps deal less damage than Eregos himself you get very valuable stacks for evasive maneuvers.
Save evasive maneuvers for enrage. You WILL occasionally get hit by the aoe bolts he throws, which is a blessing and a curse for they grant evasive charges.
It's likely your drake dies before Eregos so when it hits under 20k health, has no evasion stacks left and there are no whelps up, fly to the center ring and attempt to kill him unmounted. As a dk in ilvl350 dps gear and blood spec I managed to take him down from 350kish health.
Why solo him? Mount? The bag that has a chance to contain it doesn't drop outside getting Oculus as a random dungeon with LFG-tool. Money? Definetly not worth the effort. Fun? Very much so! One of the hardest fights I've ever soloed.
As stated above, I'm a Death Knight. At the time I was wearing my dps set (ilvl350) and was specced 33/6/2.
Good luck!

Just solo'd this on my DK (not that class mattered, all the damage was done on my damage was done on my drake) on heroic. I needed a red drake for Experience Drake Rider, and got my emerald and amber void achievements as well to finish off my .
Used a red drake and kited around the outside of Eregos' platform. I pretty much strafed counter-clockwise for 13 or 14 minutes, using the time turning along the edges to allow him to catch up and damage him, then flying directly away as he began casting. Keep up Evasive Maneuvers as much as possible. I finished my kill with between 40%-50% health remaining on my drake. Overall you could probably accomplish this taking much less damage than I took.
It's gonna take some patience, but with a few practice runs anyone should be able to do this.

I just tried to solo this guy on heroic at level 85, on an emerald drake.
Old solo'ing tactic of kiting the boss no longer works. It involved using a green drake and keeping your life leach ability at three stacks. You would kite the main man around the perimeter of the area, keeping out of range of the small spawn's abilities. Unfortunately, the spawn's abilities now have a longer range, so they quickly overcome your healing.
After playing around for a bit, a potential new tactic is a leach rotation on the spawns.
Pull the boss and stack your three debuffs, and hit him with the big ability (2 on the bar). This is unnecessary, you're just passing the time until the spawns start. When they do, you need to cast two leach debuffs on each spawn, as quick as you can. Allow the boss' leach to drop off. Once you have two on each spawn, hit the boss with the other ability (it does about 80k at 85). By this point, the next wave has spawned, so begin doting them to two stacks each - then hit the big guy with the other ability again. Rinse and repeat. The vanish phase is handled as normal.
Two stacks on each add is sufficient to kill them, keep you healed from the big ability's health drain, and give you just enough time to start on the next wave. It is pretty tight though. If you get behind, you can skip the big ability and focus on adds for a time to catch up (slowly).
I kept this up for a little while, got the boss to 80%. It takes more patience than I have, but if anyone wants to try it then go ahead! The tactic above with a red drake does seem easier, so I guess this is only useful for those seeking Ruby Void.

I did it this way just now. Item level 357, 210k drake health. Occasionally your dot will miss, but there are plenty of dots around to keep your health up even when the whelps are swamping you. One tip is to make sure you keep dotting the whelps in the second phase when you can't hit the boss. You can take out about 5 whelps during that downtime, and it makes it a lot easier. Towards the end it will seem like you are being overrun, but if you keep the dots up, your health will stay up.
*since I can't seem to reply to people's answers, I was responding to the Emerald drake strat that SlasherZet said.

Got Experienced drake rider and amber void achievements done with a friend. I was blood dk, she was holy pally, both geared around item level 323.
She took the ruby drake, I took the emerald one. I stacked the healing dots on the boss and kept these up, sometimes dotted an ad who aggrod me, she tanked boss, taunted ads and nuked them, without kiting the boss (just get away before the explosion he casts).
I kept healing her as well as once or twice used button 2 (the damage blast thingie on emerald). Eventually the boss went down after a few minutes.

Never try to do him solo, even if you're a lvl 85 with the highest tier of raiding gear! It just cannot ever be done! And for all you people out there that claims to have done him solo, you're just lying thru your teeth! You're still gonna need a group of 5 players flying the appropriate colored dragons in order to be able to properly defeat him! That's just the way Blizzard designed this one, to never be able to be soloed, no matter what!

Even on normal mode, as a lvl 85 with the highest of tier raiding gear, and maxxed out on all spells and everything, this boss just cannot be soloed on a dragon, no matter what! Don't even attempt to solo this boss on either an emerald, ruby or amber drake as you will loose and the nearly 2000K healthpoint dragon will fire his spells onto you killing your epicly geared lvl 85 raiding toon really fast! So in other words, just form a 5 man party, spam trade chat all day until you can get 4 other players who are at least lvl 80 to join you, and fly in the appropriate colored drake to take him on! But don't reset your instance at all if youy only want to do this boss! Just a tip for ya'll!

I did just solo him on a Ruby drake, so I can attest that it is possible.
All I did was stay at about max range for the Ruby Drakes attack, doing a wide circle strafe, so as soon as he casts Arcane Barrage, I was out of range when it when off, so it flies off in the direction he casts it instead of it being homing. Then just dip into range for a shot or 2 then back out for arcane barrage.
Wasn't too hard, but took a while. It was on Heroic.

Ignore the older posts that say this is impossible to solo, I was really doubtful after reading those comments and almost gave up, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm an ilvl 365 hunter and barely know what I'm doing, but just solo'd Eregos in 5-man heroic. I used a ruby drake (210K health) as others have suggested and kited the boss going counter-clockwise, spamming the #1 key and casting evasion as often as possible. Took me five tries, but I finally got him down. The key is to stay JUST out of range, but not so far that you aren't doing any damage either or he'll eventually grind you down. Also, at 75% and 25% health, Eregos is not attack-able and you need to avoid the orbs that form. Be sure that you're in the right position to resume strafing and attacking once he's returns, it happens quickly and I took a lot of damage before I got to the right position after the pauses in the battle. I found that strafing a tight circle just above the three floating platforms around the main platform at the top gave me the right distance. I finished the fight on my drake with around 10K health left. Good luck!

I just solo'ed with the green drake. I didn't read any of these posts before trying it, so I figured I should go with the drake that heals at least. At first I didn't think it was possible because the little drakes start piling up so much, that even with the healing and my drake scaled with my gear, there were so many drakes it was ridiculous. So, here is the strategy I used:
*Having enemy health bars visible will be essential to this strategy
1 - Start the fighting by Stacking 3 (#1 Leeching Poison) on Eregos and then hit him with (#2 Touch the Nightmare).
2 - Keep spamming #1 until he spawns the first drakes
3 - For me, each drake took 2 stacks of #1 to kill them. Also, one (#2 Touch the Nightmare) will instantly kill a drake, you must have poisons on constantly to heal through the self-inflicted damage. So, target a full health bar, hit #2, click another full health bar, spam #1 twice, another full bar, #1 twice again
4 - Switch quickly back to Eregos and #1, if the original poisons are still ticking, you will only need to hit #1 a single time and it will refresh all 3 stacks of poison.
Basically, by hitting each drake with #1 twice, and insta-killing a drake with #2 whenever it is refreshed, you can keep ALL of the drakes killed. It takes some practice rotating between targets, but just keep your priority killing the drakes, if the poison wears off Eregos it's okay, you can quickly stack 3 when you have two poisons on every drake. If you get efficient enough at killing drakes, you can blow an extra #2 on Eregos for added damage.
By keeping the 3 poisons on Eregos and an extra #2 every once in a while, his HP will consistently drop. It isn't fast at first, but once you get the rotation down, it was much faster.
Happy Solo'ing friends!

I used the Green Drake method described by Taioron to solo this on heroic. I found it much easier than using the red drake.
As a quick recap, here is the method. Stack 3 poisons on the boss. When adds spawn, stack 2 poisons on each add or use your number 2 ability to instant kill one. It's slightly unclear from Taioron's post, but the rotation looks like this:
1. Pull, stack 3 poisons on the boss, and spam 1 until adds spawn.
2. Apply 2 stacks to one add
3. Apply 2 stacks to another add
4. Instant kill a third add by using your second ability (This damages you, but you'll have plenty of heals from the stacks anyway).
5. Refresh the stack on the boss.
6. Repeat 2-5.
Using this, you should be able to maintain 3 stacks on the boss 100% of the time, and keep the adds relatively under control. The fight takes a while, but it's not too tough. Here are some pointers:
1. At my gear lvl (387), it took 2 stacks to kill each add. Note that I said 2 stacks. If you apply 1 stack, let it wear off, and apply a second stack, the add will not die. They deal the same damage at 10% HP as they do at 100%. Time is your only real resource here, so avoid wasting GCDs by inefficiently stacking poisons.
2. If you mess up your rotation and only apply a single stack to an add, leave it alone until you're completely caught up. Remember, even after that first stack wears off, you still need to apply 2 more stacks in order to kill it. If you have fresh adds available, it's better to simply apply 2 stacks on each of them, as they will give you more healing long term.
3. Don't bother running away when the boss is immune. The orbs deal relatively trivial damage at lvl 85. Instead, use this time to clean up any extra adds so you can start fresh when the boss is no longer immune. If you try to run, you will outrun the adds. You can't run and clean up adds at the same time. If you run, you'll be faced with a bunch of adds and incoming damage from the boss with no incoming heals from your poison stacks. This is likely a wipe.
4. Prioritize stacking poisons over instant killing adds. If you mess up the rotation, just stack poisons on adds until you get the rhythm back. It's important to keep the add count low, but 2 stacks on a single add will provide enough healing to outpace that add's damage.
5. Enemy health bars are a must
6. Set the boss as a focus target. You need frequent access to him, and can't always target him normally.
7. Don't panic. As long as you manage to keep stacks on the boss and a few adds, you're going to have plenty of incoming heals. It's alright if the adds start to pile up a little. You'll be surprised how resilient your drake is.

Managed to solo him at level 85 as a Rogue.
Actually, your class doesn't matter since you'll be fighting on a drake. To solo it, i used a Ruby Drake.
I actually first tried with a Bronze Drake, but i was being hit too hard and doing too little damage, so i switched to an Emerald Drake, which was fine for a moment, until i became overwhelmed by the little adds he spawns (Since i had no AoE abilities).
Then i tried the Ruby Drake. If you confront him face to face (Just sitting there hitting your "1" button) he will outdamage you and kill you, since you have no healing abilities, what i did was basically get him in the center of the ring (At the pillar of light) and from there, spend the whole time strafing, he'd follow me, but when he was about to cast Arcane Barrage, he'd have to stop moving to cast it, and i would outrun him (Making his spell casting fail)
Save Evasion for the mini-enrage he has, as he will cast faster, and he will surely hit you with a few Arcane Barrages if you don't use Evasion (Also, hitting MUCH harder, about 8% of my health, if i remember well)
At about 500k health, he killed my dragon and i landed on the ring below us (That's why you should try to stay on that area) Blew up defensive and offensive CD's and finally killed him.
In the end he isn't that hard to solo, but he can be tricky if you don't know what to do, so i hope this helps someone.
Edit: Oh, also, gear doesn't do anything on this fight. I was at 200k health when i'm sitting at 393 ilvl. (Haven't experimented, though)

I am still trying to figure out how some of you solo'd this boss on Heroic. I tried on Normal and it was a "fail". I tried on the emerald and amber drake drake, but to no avail. When the whelps appeared it wasn't that many at first. I followed the tips and guides from everyone and then massive amounts of whelps appeared. When I say a massive amount of whelps...I mean unreal amount. I got about 4 whelps down, and all of the sudden 4-5 whelps started appearing every few seconds. I lasted the longest on the emerald drake, which was about 3 minutes. I didn't even last 1 minute on the amber drake. I solo a lot of dungeons at this level (as SP) and never had this much drama or frustration. I know I am NOT THAT bad, and feel something buggish was going on. All I can say is that I will try again, but if something like this happen to you....stop and move on.....I wish I would have not waisted that much time.

Followed the strategy of earlier poster. Grabbed a Red Drake, and spammed 1 while strafing around him. It was much easier with red than green, since your 1 ability chains to the whelps he spawns. He was able to get me to around 10% of my drakes health before I killed him.
Save the evasion ability for when he enrages, he casts Arcane Barrage about twice as fast.

Eregos may have been a challenging solo encounter during the early-to-middle Cataclysm cycle, but as others have pointed out, it has been possible for some time now. Wearing T13 heroic raid gear, the encounter is trivial. I soloed it easily on the ruby drake tonight, after two failed attempts with the emerald. As others have posted, the simplest strategy is to strafe continuously in a circle bounding the top platform. Target Eregos, then just spam #1 ad infinitum for the duration of the fight. Use #2 anytime he casts Enraged Assault. Repeat until dead.
At ilevel 403, my drake had 244k health. The fight took a little over 9 minutes, my drake survived with 42% health, and I got my Champion of the Frozen Wastes title. If you're still struggling with this fight, just wait a couple weeks. Once Mists is released, it should be virtually failproof. Good luck!

It is possible to kill Eregos while achieving
琥珀虚空
,
翡翠虚空

. You can fly up to the highest ring, pull him with any ranged attack, and run around the ring until he flies down closer to the platform to follow you. Once he's closer to the platform melee classes should be able to hit/tank him. Solo'd as a level 90 Frost Death Knight in mostly Dreadful Gladiator gear without any issues.

I flailed away at him, blowing cooldowns and healing stuff as needed, until he'd phase out. Then I'd back off enough to bring his whelps down and close together, then aoe'd them until Eregos came back to reality. Rinsed, repeated, got all the Void achieves and grief from my guild for cheating at the fight. :)

Are you sick of this guy ? I was. gear doesn't scale up well with the drake.
But I found a loophole - the boss is TAUNTABLE ON FOOT, from one of the top platforms.
That's where having a 556 elem shammy came in handy & I laughed a great deal, after messing around trying to do it the proper way - although killing the boss on foot does not count towards the experienced drake rider achieve. But it does get you all the void achieves all at once.

However if you dismount your drake and melee or ranged attack him this will not count towards your Experienced Drake Rider achievement as you have to be mounted to gain credit for the kill. Potentially you could try and mount up at the end of the fight and finish him while mounted? I dont know I haven't tried but just a note when trying to obtain all achis together it will not work.

Just defeated this solo on heroic, receiving Amber Void, Ruby Void, & Make it Count (Also Experience Drake Rider, but I already had used Ruby and Amber before). To anyone looking to solo their way through for Glory of the Hero:
Getting here should be no problem at 90. On the Emerald Drake:
Start by dropping 3 stacks of skill 1 on Ley-Guardian. Then, use skill 2. Continue this pattern until smaller drakes begin to spawn.
No matter what, if you ignore these drakes they will take you down eventually. So instead, begin rotating through live drakes placing 1 stack of skill 1 on each. Hit 4 drakes this way before returning to Eregos, to use skill 1 followed by skill 2. Continue this rotation:
small drake - skill 1
small drake 2 - skill 1
small drake 3 - skill 1
small drake 4 - skill 1
eregos - skill 1
eregos - skill 2
It sould be just a mater of time. It took about 10 minutes after killing the first boss, making "Mak it Count" very reasonable

I just tried this on 9-1-2014 with my 90 ret paladin in heroic mode. I engage Eregos on an emerald drake then went to the loot chest platform and sat my drake down. I tired the whelp skill 1 rotation but they still overwhelmed me and my drake died. Since I was sitting I took no fall damage. I'd seen old Youtube videos where if this happens you can finish Eregos on foot and still get credit for any attainable achievements. Sadly this is no longer true. Upon my drake dying Eregos and the whelps all despawned with a respawn of Eregos at full health happening shortly thereafter. It may be true still in non-heroic mode. Maybe someone can confirm this with an "Add Reply".

At level 100 on a ruby drake it took me a while to figure out how to keep my drake from dying, below comments didn't help much. It is important to target the adds and hit them with #1 as soon as they spawn and to use #2 evasion while you are waiting for them to spawn. It helped a lot to zoom camera out to max before mounting the drake in order to see the adds.

Just to be clear, in late WOD, defeating this boss on heroic, solo, essentially requires a ranged attack to pull it and kill it. I just landed on the platform, shot the boss, and got five achievements: Heroic Oculus, the three color Void achievements, and Make It Count. That was at ilv 710, but I don't see how doing any sort of tactics is necessary on any lv 100 ilv.

Even at 100, I can't solo this PITA on an amber drake. I don't know how anyone's done it, regardless of what I've read here. Anyone have any advice?

I was able to solo him on ruby taking 0 (zero) damage. It was on normal, but i guess 0 is 0 on heroic as well. The trick is staying near the range limit of your ability while strafing away from him in a big circle. Slow down a bit to let him get in range, use your ability 1 and speed up out of range. Repeat until done.
