While it's nice to see him return, I really thought he'd be an instance boss at the very least, rather than just a quest objective.

Alright, here's the lowdown on the Arugal encounter.
Phase 1: He does normal shadowbolts, not hitting horribly hard. Goes to Phase 2 at 75-70%.
Phase 2: Throws up a shield, and summons 3 non-elite adds. Kill the adds to go back to Phase 1. When he hits 50%, he goes to Phase 3.
Phase 3: Again, throws up a shield, but this time he uses a familiar adds, where he takes control of a party member. This can be used on the tank. The target thus begins to attack your party, and you must dps him/her down to less than 35% health, when the debuff gets knocked off. Then he goes back to Phase 1. Continue to dps him until he hits 25%.
Phase 4: See Phase 2, but with three times as many adds. Not hard if you have good AoE dmg. Also, Shara shows up here to help you out. Once you finish off the adds, you can finally take out Arugal himself.

Would like to say his MC isnt trinketable, and totally sucks cause if it was, a Blood DK could solo this easy. So a heads up you NEED 2 people else your screwed when he MCs cause he resets and his HP fills up all the way.

Easily solo'able by 76-78 Protection warriors in decent gear.
LoS/spell reflect shadowbolts, bandage during immune phases, use enraged regeneration when possible, AoE down adds and you should be fine.

Soloed as a 76 ret pally, used bubble when he summoned the 9 adds other than that fairly easy. Other than that all he does is cast shadow bolt and they only hit around 1.5kish so not hard to heal through.

Soloed it as lvl 78 Protection warrior. Managed to spell reflect almost all his shadowbolts. Was a close one though. Around 1000 health left when he died. Sasha's aura really helped a lot at the end.
The third time he went immune the amount of adds was really immense. I think I had 20 or so hitting on me standing there.

Just solo'd as a 74 Ret Paladin. I just used my Instant FoL when Art of War procced, and used Divine Plea at around 50% mana.
By the time Phase 4 came around, it was looking rough, but Sasha came in and wrecked Arugal from 25% to death.
Was a fun quest.

Barely soloed as an 80 hunter. Was doing fine until phase 3 where the adds simply overwhelmed me and my pet. Had to tank Arugal for a few seconds until I feigned and he switched to sasha. As she was getting killed, I revived my pet and was able to kill him - I somehow died though, but he died before me.

Soloed him as a 80 Feral druid with lvl70 gear (T6, badges and PvP gear). Most of the income damage came from his shadow bolts and the adds were easy to handle with Swipe and they were a breath of fresh air because of the healing received from Imp Leader of the Pack.
Popped Frenzied Regeneration early in the fight and used Barkskin every time it was up to reduce the magic damage. Probably would have been a much easier fight if I had my shadow resist gear with me.

Be aware the adds that surrounded Shade of Arugal before the battle respawn very quickly after he dies. If you're going to have a seat to mana-up after the battle, get back to the stairwell before doing so.

I encountered Arugal's shade as a lvl 78 death knight, feeling confident that the adds wouldn't be a problem at all (they weren't). I rarely have my ghoul running around causing havoc, so that wouldn't be a problem either.
So as a happy bunny I start whacking, not much problem of any sort to be seen. Some adds spawn (mixed in with normal respawn it seemed) but they go down quickly.
After a little while I apperantly get mind controlled (ö.Ö) and I realise my mighty tauren is not whacking Arugal anymore, but rather some worms crawling around his feet. Turns out blood worms is not super cool during this fight (which I could've guessed ofc, but it didn't come to mind really - they're pink and squishy, I don't pay much attention to them).
I figured I would keep on killing him and hope for the best ( = no blood worms proccing during his Mind Controlling phase), but of course that didn't happen at all. After his 12th reset I gave up that idea (I like Death Knight's endurance during long fights =).
I finally took him down by:
1) Stepping out of melee range
2) Icy Touch
3) Death Coil
4) Rush in for Death Strike to keep my health up (praying no silly worms would pop up)
Repeated until all his puppies spawned. The rest of the fight was as smooth as I hoped for initially. =)

You can nova / root him, but not snare. Use it to your advantage :)

You can pull him to stairwell if you feel like it, phases reset him to platform. This way you can skip phase 2, adds despawn after a few seconds.
Soloing him Ele-shaman is bit of luck. If MC in phase 3 hits your elemental, which you pop before he reaches 60%, all is fine. If not... oh well.. retry.
Other than that it's pretty standard, water shield up, heal, do damage. Phase 4 can be bit hard if you're not prepared.

Just solo'd as a lvl 75 Ret paladin, standard quest rewards, De-Raged Waraxe, couple of lvl 74ish blues. It was VERY hard and very challenging, and i propose it to anyone looking for a good challenge. make sure u have all cooldowns ready including: Lay on hands, Divine shield, divine plea, trinkets (Medallion of Heroism is a real help here too). what i did is i cleared those cultist dudes before him until it was just him and 1 add. i then quickly killed the add and took the shadowbolts he casts (they only hit for around 1.2kish). USE ART OF WAR PROCC EVERYTIME IT'S UP UNLESS U ARE AT 95%+ pull him towards the stairs and try to LOS him. he casts his bolts rather quickly, so while u run up and down stairs, he will get 1 or 2 bolts in to u. He is NOT stunnable or cannot be under effect of repentence. When he resets, this is where u want to use ur cooldowns. Divine plea, and make sure u have enough mana. when he summons 3 adds, they shouldnt be a proble, but make sure u get them down quick because Arugal will come out of his shield very quickly. when he casts this a second time, the quest giver will appear and help a bit. this is where u want to use divine shield. consecrate, divine storm, divine shield, DO SOME DAMGE and when u have about 6-7ish seconds on ur bubble, through a holy light, potion and medallion of heroism. then when u get back low, use Lay on Hands, and all the adds should be dead and u are left with Arugal. dps him down and u finish the quest. use Exorcism and holy wrath on arugual for extra damage if mana allows it. Hope this is great help to those who need it. Very fun challenge to solo as a lvl 75.

I'll try to explain how I soloed it as a decent northrend geared 76 feral druid.
(sorry for my approximative english)
The first optionnal trick is to use the talent "Protector of the pack" (only tanking talent I luckily had). I asked a friend to successively log 4 of his alts ; I invite one, he alt+f4 so the alt stays in the party, I invite another, etc. The four party members are offline but you get the protectof of the pack 12% damage reduction in bear form.
(Note : with the incoming patch the talent will be active even while soloing)
Buffing yourself with elixir or pots can, of course, ease the fight.
Clean the first mobs on the platform without aggroing Arugal, then get on the side of the platform and pull Arugal with faerie fire.
Break ligne of sight (LOS) so that he goes down the stairs. Then turn around and go in the staircase from were you got to the platform, to break LOS so that Arugal follows you in.
Melee him to.. Huu... 50%? Don't quite remember, anyway at some point he will teleport back to the top of the platform and call 3 adds and stop fighting. If you stayed in the staircase the adds won't aggro you! Then you can just heal yourself, and when you're ready (you're still in combat), just go back into bear form and faerie fire pull the adds.
Arugal will start bolting you again so you've got to gain time by briefly breaking his LOS (while killing the adds) so that he stops casting but don't move too quickly to you, and repeat until he gets to melee range. DO NOT USE BERSERK NOW, you'll need it later.
If you're already low on health and that the adds are dead, you can move away a little and heal while he's bolting you (btw the bolts do 1k-1k2dmg and he was hitting me 700-900). Better to heal now even if you're not that low thought.
At 25% (I think, again I didn't pay attention), he will teleport back and summon MOAR adds o: But then again, if you're in the staircase you won't aggro and can heal yourself. Then Sasha stupidly come in and one-shot a worgen... Pulling all the others in the process. Way to go, Sasha.
Now THIS is the time to pop up Berserk to quickly kill the adds (and I hope you also have glyph of Maul, and if you don't then... Well, /facepalm I guess), while you try to break LOS with Arugal. With all the adds you'll also get lots of rage so it's a good time to use Frenzied Regeneration (when Berserk is over ofc).
When all the adds are dead you can again get some distance and heal yourself, then finish him.
The only downside to getting out of aggro range for the adds is that Sasha won't really help you and will despawn before you can kill Arugal (and validate) but, hey, just head back to where you got the quest.
Hop that helped you feral druids out there!

Soloed as a lvl 74 Prot Pally:
Only hit me for around 1000 both spell and melee, block can easily drop melee by half and shadow resist aura was knocking about 25% off the spell damage.
Just attacked away, mostly ignored adds and used seal of light + Figurine of the Colossus to heal myself. Didn't even have to bubble or LoH.
Was actually easier though a little longer than Goremaw.

Was easy for me as 78 DK (spec 48/14/7 - I don't have bloodworms which is handy). Did not use a ghoul.
Didn't need to pull him down the stairs or anything, just a straight forward death-strike-fight with a bit of AoE needed.
Just a side note, Sasha didn't help me at all. I dunno if I killed him too fast or something but I finished the fight alone and turned around and she was just standing at the top of the stairs.

From a rogue's perspective this is not easy to solo, have a potion ready.
Kill all adds bar one from a distance. Then engage Arugal, killing the last remaining add first, while pulling arugal towards the stairs. At one point he will teleport to his initial location, spawn 3 adds and go immune till the adds die. Kill those adds while going down the stairs a few steps, and after you killed them, bandage instantly. Run back up to Arugal and burn him down more, drink a pot if necessary (but save evasion).
Again there will be adds spawning (6 or so this time), but Arugal wont go immune this time, use evasion and as soon as Sascha comes to help out, vanish (adds and Arugal will go attack Sascha). Bandage if necessary, but don't let Sascha die, burn down Arugal now!

When you become Mind Controlled you also receive a debuff called
Worgen's Blood
, which, depending on your class, regenerates 2% Health and then some amount of Mana, Rage, Energy or Runic Power. A lot of it.
As a Death Knight, this buff alone kept me near full health for the duration of the fight (after I was Mind Controlled and then the fight reset, that is).

Just soloed as a 79 Doomkin.
Phase one- I Tossed on a regrowth before I engaged him, you don't have to, it just makes it easier. I then just DPSed him down. I popped my treants, but it's really not needed, in fact I would save them for phase three.
When he spawns the adds, use nature's grasp, and burn the other two down. Heal up, and then drop the third.
Continue to DPS him. I could take the Shadowbolts, with IS on and being 79 he was missing a fair amount, not to mention the partial resists through MotW.
Make sure when arugal is at about 40% you're at about 80%HP.
Phase Three- Regrowth, Rejuv, Moonkin Form, Barkskin, Starfall, Hurricane. That should take down most if not all the adds.
If there are a few stragglers pop your treants, and have them attack one of them. They will clear out the rest of the adds and continue to DPS Arugal.
Once you clear the adds of Phase Three it's just a matter of time.
Innervate any time you need it.
Also, when it's just you and Arugal do not be afraid to drop moonkin form and toss on some HoTs.
It wasn't hard, but it was kind of tricky. However, I have no doubt that any doomkin can solo him once they have enough Mana and regen.
Good luck!

Solo'd as a 76 ret paladin with heirloom shoulders/wep/trinkets and random quest blues/greens. I accidentally pulled him with literally 0 mana (couldn't even judge) because I forgot he aggros when you kill the last mob in front of him. I used the stairs and balcony outside to LOS shadowbolts and heal and never had any trouble with evading and no mind controls.
The only hard part was his final teleport when the friendly NPC aggrod the adds and I was forced to kill the whole wave. I just popped AW and spammed DS/consecration while LOSing arugal's bolts until they all died. I ended up having to use LoH, but only because I ran out of mana (from pulling with no mana at the start). Otherwise easy fight.

Just soloed as a lvl 75 DK. Here's a tip. When he summons the army get your mass spells up and let your pet attack arugal. After that fill your pet's hp at max. When he transforms u into a worg u'll attack your pet. After u get out of the form heal your pet with death coil and then continue attacking him. When he summon the second army do the same : let your pet tank arugal while u deal with the mobs. It will take 5 minuts but u'll kill him :) . Also don't forget to be on frost presence during the fight.

When I soloed him I cleared the tower leading up to him rather quickly. And he chased me all the way to the bottom.
That means if you get in over your head. Jump down a few stair sets or LoS and bandage/heal.
In the end i had to drop all the way to the bottom to shake the adds long enough to recover to finish him and the adds.
Also the NPC that comes at the third phase will DPS the entire time you're running away.

I got rid of all the mobs kneeling before him one by one then made sure i was disease free, full healthed, and buffed before I initiated the fight. I spammed IT, PS, DS, while putting up IBF, Bone shield, and used anti-magic shell twice only. Gargoyle saved me when the adds came and me and my ghoul just focused on the adds until they were gone. Had to use deathpact twice. Key to soloing him as a DK is putting up dmg reduction buffs, while self healing with DS and making sure diseases are up. When MC wore off, Arugal was reset to 100% health. After Raise Dead cooleddown, decided to disarm myself just before the MC phase so that I won't kill the ghoul. I used my voidwalker for 10% physical damage reduction and domonic sacrifice shield. The first three phases are no problem. I drained out all his mana so he is only casting shadow bolt every couple seconds and your void walker is tanking melee hits. I'm not sure what happens during the mind control phase because neither my pet nor I did got MCed. Just keep your health and mana topped of while slowly dpsing him to the fourth phase at which point just howl of terror, hit demonic sacrifice, and spam Seed of Corruption into as many adds as possible. You'll probably need your health stone as well. I barely survived but it worked!

Easy to solo with a 78 frost mage, but how?
1. Have Magic Absorbtion talent rank 2.
2. Active mage armor and dampen magic.
3. Be sure cold snap, water elemental and icy veins are not in cd.
I had crappy quest blues and some greens 10k hp and 11k mana. He missed most of the shadowbolts so each returned to me as 240 mana.
Phase 1 : Cleared other guys around him and fulled my mana and health then started spamming frost bolt. He couldnt destroy ice barrier before it cooldown so i havent lose any hp untill 3/4 health.
Phase 2 : Cleared his 2 adds and after coldsnap I have respawned water elemental. Continued to cast Frostbolt.
Phase 3 : He Mind controlled me and gave me a regeneration buff which helped me alot. I fighted my water elemental for a while then started casting frostbolts again.
Phase 4 : Shara(npc) and lots of adds showed up. I gather adds and used frostnova to root them then casted blizzard(improved). After mobs died I killed the old friend.
Btw caster reward shoulder is quite crappy i had Mantle Of Thwarted Evil already which is much better.
I hope it helps.

Blizzard are preapering something pretty big,i think one of the awsomeist raids EVER!Think about it,the Lich King is not a actualboss in a raid and cant be killed, arugal is his SHADE not his ghost or spirit,so he has ressurected and has got a LOT of stronger,So for the raid im talking about pretty sure to happen, and some the bosses will be the Lich King and Arugal for sure,i wonderwhat other bosses will there be?MAybe it will be something like the Worg quarter where the boss is Arugal then the troll quarter where the boss will be Drakuru or some other ultimatelystrong troll that has been killed and ressurected into a zombie,

Just soloed as a 76 Demonol Lock. Took two tries but I found that the first summon guys he fades out so you can use the felguard to help you kill the 3 or 4 summoned mobs. When he gets down to like 40% or so he does his large summon so you need to pop your meta for this. Wait to pop it for his second summon or else you will go down to fast. Immo aura, pop pots and healthstone to stay up. I also had lifebloom to keep this section rolling. Once the summons drop you get help and its an easy win from there.

Solo'ed this as a 77 ele shaman. The trick, as mentioned above, is to stay out of aggro range when he spawns the adds.
Stand in the
right
corner (if you are facing him) of the roof, and clear the mobs on the lower
right
level of the area (i.e. those that are on the floor, not on the stairs or the platform where Arugal is standing). Only clear those
at the right side.
If you don't kill those close to Arugal himself you won't aggro him.
Inch forward from the corner until lightning bolt is in range (~36 yards). This puts you in range of his shadowbolts as well, so when you start the fight, you will both be shooting lightning and shadow at each other for the first phase. Flame shock and lava burst should be in range too. This phase should be easy enough to heal through, and you won't aggro the mobs at the side of him.
When he first goes into phase 2, just stop shooting lightning bolts and heal/regen mana for a while.
STAY WHERE YOU ARE.
Everyone will just chill for a while until his shield drops off, and the adds will not aggro and will despawn after he is attackable again. Then it goes back to phase one.
When he goes into phase 2 the second time, it is when things get a little different. You
Must
be ready to backpedal when he pops his shield. He spawns more adds this time and from where you are standing at the start, you will aggro the adds. Just move back into the corner and wait. You can't attack him anyway. Stay out of range until his shield drops off and the adds de-spawn, and move back to phase one position.
Its important to stay in range of his shadowbolts, because then he will not move from his original spot, and won't pull any adds along with him if he tries to get you in range. Watch his cast bar and get ready to move if he pops his shield. He won't MC as there's only you.
When Sasha comes to "help" sometime during the second phase 2, she will appear from the left corner of the roof. This is why you only clear the mobs at the right side in the beginning. She will rush forward, and immediately aggro one of those wolfmen kneeling before Arugal at the start. If you had killed all of them at the start, she will rush toward Arugal, and most likely aggro all the spawned adds, which will kill you. She has low damage, and there will be time for you to finish off Arugal before she kills her first mob.
I only got killed once (didn't know you had to move back during the second phase 2). Second try was a breeze. Good luck.

Soloed as a 75 bear, although it did take me three tries. On each attempt I built Lacerate up to five stacks on Arugal, then switched to Maul + Mangle and Swipe when on cooldown. When he summoned his adds I switched targets so my glyphed Maul would not "waste" one of its two targets on the immune Arugal.
The attempts:
Made the mistake of not leaving enough mana to shapeshift after healing myself, and having used a health potion.
Didn't clear enough of Arugal's friends first and lost too much health up front.
Finally made it, although it took Lifebloom from herbalism, Frenzied Regeneration, Barkskin+self-healing, and a health pot.
I suggest that bears keep one or two of Arugal's minions alive and pull them along with their master, as their attacks will help build rage at the start.

Soloing this guy as a lvl 75 feral tank is quite a challenge. Some key things to remember is that you can use the stairs as a way to LoS Arugal and heal up undamaged. You could also just stand back and slowly heal up to health, but chances are you'll run OOM.
The first 3 adds are easy. Don't blow Rampage. You'll desperately need it on the second wave of adds. By this time I was sitting down the stairs so I had time to heal up again before they came. Burned 3 down in Rampage during a Frenzied Regeneration, then spammed Swipe like my life depended on it. (Well, it did.)
Eventually I managed to clear all the adds with 1500 health left. I quickly Shadowmelded, healed up just a little bit and taunted Arugal off Sasha again (she dies rather quickly). Doing so allowed me to chug a second potion in the fight which saved my ass, miraculously.
Good luck to any druids up for this challenge.

Soloed this as a level 76 Demo lock. Here's how I did it;
I started by putting my pet on passive and clearing all of the adds around Arugal, manually controlling my felguard to make sure I didn't pull him until the platform was clear. once I had completely pulled all the adds, I tagged Arugal with a corruption and ran down the stairs, pulling my felguard behind me on follow. Once down the stairs and on the small platform just below the top of the tower, I let Arugal come to me and set the felguard on him.
Arugal needs to be DPS'd down 20% at a time - for the initial 20%, let your felguard do it unassisted, keep him alive with health funnel. Once he's down to 83%, pull the felguard off of him and cast corruption and use drain life to get him down to 80 even. He'll teleport up to his platform and summon adds - back up and wait for him to come to you. Once he's done summoning adds, he will run back downstairs and engage your felguard. Put up the standard dots on Arugal and allow your pet to do most of the work, keeping it alive with health funnel throughout. Again, after 20% life - this time at 63% - pull off your felguard. He will again teleport away at 60%. Wait for him to come down and repeat, stopping at 43%.
At 43% sasha is going to show up and make sure that the adds up top don't despawn. Some help, huh? Wait until the worgen adds path into your line of sight and pop metamorphasis and immolation aura. Use howl of terror shortly after and drop a rain of fire over your head. Repeat the rain of fire until the adds are dead, and drain life back up. Make sure you monitor your pet's life at all times because if he dies, it's over - arugal will focus fire on you and kill you quickly. Once the adds have died, provided your pet is still up, the rest of the fight is cake from here - Arugal does nothing special for the last 20% and will not prove a significant challenge.
Loot your adventurer's skull and return to Sasha for your fabulous prize.

Just solo'd as a lvl 78 Feral Druid (cat form).
I first got Savage Roar up, when I killed the last add, then used Feral Charge (jump) to get to Arugal, and started nuking him.
His shadowbolts didn't do much, because there was a 3 lvl difference, and because I also regenerated from Improved Leader of the Pack.
When he went immune for the 1st time, 3 adds with ~10k HP each spawned. Took care of them quickly and used some HoTs on me.
The 2nd time he went immune, about 10 adds spawned, with ~10k HP each, but they didn't really do any dmg, so I popped Tiger's Fury (to get to full energy), and Berserk, and nuked them down with Swipe in less than 6 seconds, leaving me some time to do a couple of HoTs.
He didn't cast any Mind Control, through the fight, and only went immune twice.
Had about 50% HP when he died, because I used Healing Touch, on each Predatory Strikes proc.
Used 1 mana potion.
If you can get a friend to come along, do so, it'll make the fight a lot easier.

Just soloed as a lvl74 Blood DK in tank gear, hadn't even trained after I dinged 74, took me around 5 tries, but I finally got him down alone.. Trick for me was at around 20% when sasha was around, wait for him to be netted, jump down the stairs, bandage and finish him, couldn't have done it without defensive CD's and most of all Death Pact.

it looks like it's easyly soloable (always in phase 1) if you stand at the stairs, no adds, boss will come down to you by himself automatically.

Soloed as 79 BM hunter. The method I used seemed like it could work for a hunter that was many levels lower.
Requires flying.
I have read the trick about landing on the walls around him and fighting from there, but he would always evade around 60-80k health. I tried this about 4 times with no success.
The secret was to use
eyes of the beast to have my pet jump down and attack directly
, while I fought from atop the wall. Simply hit any of the spawns/adds (multi-shot, or volley) so they focus on you.
This worked beautifully, and I didn't require any pots or food (Whereas I needed them in the previous attempts). The pet was easy to keep healed, though it got close near the end (with the large amount of adds). If you have a tank pet you will fare better.

solo'd as a 75 prot pally with decent gear (nothing too special).
i don't see it in his abilities list, but on my first try he hit me with a debuff that silenced me for a full minute. the second time, i pulled him to the stairs that lead to the roof using LoS and i never got the debuff. i assume he uses it when he teleports back to his platform, so you should definitely not fight him up there if you use magic (a silenced pally is a practice dummy).
it got a bit hairy at the end cuz taking the adds down gives him a lot of time to hit you with his bolts, but in the end i beat him.
maybe the silence is used instead of the MC debuff when you are soloing him?

Totally soloable if you get the 'Worgen Blood' buff.
Did it as an 80 affliction lock with PvP gear and a Voidwalker. The adds arent a problem if you fear them and then DoT up. My VW got charmed so I just stood and took the dmg until the buff ran out.
A long fight though, so a group would definately be reccommended.

Solo'd as 76 spriest. Full buffs (esp. shadow prot) and food. Mostly blue quest and dungeon gear. Pulled all the mobs around him, killed them leaving the loot so they take longer to respawn. If he agro's drop off the tower and levitate then fly back up. Attack him from near the stairs. Keep your dots up and your mana replenishing. Use dispersion as soon as viable. When he summons 3 adds, dot them up and fry them, then get back to killing him. The real challenge comes when he summons the 9 adds or so - I failed twice due to this. I realized best tactic is to drop your shadowfiend in the middle of them, dot them up while they are attacking the shadow fiend and then polish them off with the help of the NPC. after that get back to Arugal, pot if necessary or disperse again if its up, finish him off.

Solo'd him as a 76 Arcane Mage.
Stood in the corner near the stairwell just within spell range of Arugal.
Picked off the cultists 1 by 1, leaving the cultist on the lower level opposite side of Arugals platform from me alone. When I attacked Arugal, the last cultist didn't pull, so didn't have to worry about killing him and getting hit by Arugal at the same time.
Phase 1 - Did a rotation of Arcane Blast x2, then Arcane Missile if it was proc'd else Arcane Barrage. Also kept Mana Shield up.
Phase 2 - As long as you don't attack, the adds will despawn. Used the time to cast Evocation to replensh health/mana.
Phase 3 - Repeat of Phase 1, goal was to conserve mana for phase 4.
Phase 4 - Right after Shara does her pull, hit my Arcane Power macro (which casts Arcane Power, uses my trinket and casts Mirror Image) and used my mana gem (for the buff) then burned Arugal down using only Arcane Blasts.
At that point, my mirrors were gone, Shara was dead and the adds were rushing me. So I frost nova'd them in the corner, ran up and looted Arugal's corpse then jumped off the side casting Slow Fall.
Hope this is helpful.

Since no one posted it and I do so love the challenge;
Solo'd on a level 74 Enhancement Shaman.
Since you can't rely on any range, nor have the durability of a prot warrior, here's the 'how to' - easy mode. Also, since using totems/spirit wolves will cause Arugal to use Mind control on you, you will have to be tricky. (Found that out after the 3rd reset ^^)
Attack the mobs around Arugal 1-by-1, Pull em with your Shocks/Lightning Bolts.
Once 2-3 Mobs including Arugal are left, you can start.
Focus on the 2-3 Mobs first, disregard the Shadow bolts.
Phase 1:
> Searing, Healingstream, Strength of Earth, Windfury totems.
Just Flameshock->Earthshock normal rotation him down to 75%, ignore the Shadow bolts, save Maelstrom for Greater Healing Waves. And use them when in need, not to top off 10% of your health.
Phase 2:
> Magma, Healing stream, Stoneclaw, Wind fury totems.
Adds will spawn and Arugal will become immune to damage
Magma/Firenova the adds down while they are focussed,
If Stoneclaw is glyphed use 1-2 Maelstrom Procs for Chain Lightning.
When adds are down or at 60% Health of Arugal
>Searing, Healingstream, Strength of Earth, Windfury totems.
Pop your Ghost wolves. Burn him down as fast as you can.
Phase 3:
> Searing, Healing stream, Strength of Earth, Wind fury totems.
You should be Mind controlled by now and fighting your own wolves.
Once you break free, your wolves should've soaked the damage of you attacking and Arugal should not have been reset. Proceed to beat him down, Bloodlust should be used around here.
Phase 4:
>Magma, Healing stream, Stoneclaw/Earth Elemental, Wind fury totems.
If you trust in your Stoneclaw totem, use it - I personally used to the Earth Elemental totem for the increased health, armor and taunting. Proceed to AoE Burn down the adds.
As with the totem chances are you won't need much healing, so use Maelstrom on Chain Lightning, self heal with Healing Surge.
Once you're past that, it's tank and spank.
Save Maelstroms for Heals and simply kill him.
^ Doesn't sound quite as easy, has a lot of totem/fighting style changing, but if you'd like a challenge, go for it. Feels rewarding anyway. =)

Easily soloed as a lvl76 demolock. Probably easier as affliction:
1. Soul Link with Felguard, or VW if not demo.
2. Land somewhere on the ledge in range of Arugal, as far to the outer edge as possible.
3. Fully ignore the mobs, who will just be standing there, dumbfounded, for the whole encounter.
4. Pop shadow ward and start your spell rotation on him (the one for long encounters, preferably with BoD). Keep shadow ward up.
5. Recover with a healthstone/pot at shield phases if needed. Laugh at the helpless adds while you wait.
6. Finish him and mock Sasha for not showing up.
For added challenge you can try shooting down all his minions by Seeding him, though I'm not sure how well that'll work.

Solo'd at 70 as a discipline priest, in Sunwell Plateau gear. Cataclysm-patches.
Relevant Statistics:
154 Item Level
1005 Stamina
- 13261 HP
1160 Intellect
- 19740 Mana
- 1692 Spell Power
- 18.91% Total Critical Chance
659 Spirit
- 759 / 445 Non-Combat / Combat Mana Regeneration
23.84% Haste
40 Spell Penetration
6413 Armor (37.79% Damage Reduction)
5.79% Dodge Chance
70 Arcane/Shadow Resistance
The above statistics are accurate with my fortitude/shadow protection/inner fire buffs all up, of course. No other buffs affected said statistics. Assume that anything not mentioned or included in above statistics is zero. Also, it might be helpful to know that my gems are all 20+ WotLK gems, and that they total in stats at +170 intellect, +132 Spirit, +60 haste +3% critical healing effect aaaaaaaaand... yeah. This just means I have a lotta gems and it contributes a lot to my statistics. If it's any more relevant to you, I don't really have that many enchantments.
I must say, firstly, that this is an extremely fun fight to do at 70 on a disc priest. It's challenging and forces you to really use all that priestly powah, jah. I come back here and there to keep my skills up inbetween arenas or BG's. Here's how I went about doing it:
First off, you must not deny the fact that having your head somewhere else can jeapordize your survival. So you shouldn't just fly up on your Netherwing drake or Al'ar or whatever and expect to be in the game for SoA in SFT. No, no... start from the docks of Bloodmoon Isle, on foot. Kill both "bosses" on the island before scaling SFT on foot. This'll help to get your head in the game.
One thing to really watch out for is the ability of mobs to silence you for one minute. Keep curing your infected bites, or you're toast. Buttered, crunchy toast. For the worgen you expected to kill.
Now that you're at the top of the tower, place DoTs on Arugal and then jump into the middle of all the mobs in front of Arugal and spam holy nova until they die. Also spam shields, renews, PoH's and cures on yourself. Keep DoTs up on Arugal.
Also, don't mana burn him. It's not very nice... and he hits kinda hard with that staff of his, too!
So anyway, once all the mobs in front of him are dead, keep DoTs up. Mind blast, penance and holy fire when they're up and spam your smite. Archangel whenever it pops up, both for mana conservation and healing buff. Feel free to spend a lot of mana at this phase on expensive offensive spells, but try and keep to bubbles/PoH/renew for healing for sake of efficiency.
During a transition phase, you will have a certain amount of time to kill three mobs. At this time, to relieve yourself of some burden, put out a shadowfiend and bubble it. Follow that with a fade. Place SW:P on each mob and holy fire/penance/smite each one individually until they're all dead, popping archangel as it comes up. Keep in mind that Arugal may stop his immunity at any moment now, usually just before the third one dies.
Blow Arugal to bits now with as much stuff as you can, but use Hymn of Hope before he gets around, say... 45k health. Just like phase one: You don't care about mana efficiency with offensive spells, but you're conservative with healing and whatnot.
During the second transition phase, an add named Sasha will spawn to help you. However, many adds will spawn as Arugal becomes immune. I don't quite recall, but I'd say about eight spawn. While this is going on, pop some things: pain suppression, power infusion, trinkets and bubble should do the trick as you mow them all down with holy nova spamming.
For the record, my trinkets are "Tome of Diabolic Remedy" and "Pendant of the Violet Eye." One gives spell power, the other stacks spirit with each spell cast.
Now that that's over, just finish the sod off like it were phase one.
Although this tutorial is highly specific, I hope it could help some others out of their boredom and whatnot. This is an extremely efficient and specific example and guide, and it's quite possible to down this "boss" of SFT without such rigid guidelines. Best in time to you all.

Solo-ed this as a Lvl 76 Survival Hunter.
With a Bear Pet, and Glyph of Mending.
First, before engaging the boss, i cleared the adds around him using Survival Spec.
Left 2 adds beside the boss, unable to clear it without engaging boss.
Changed back to Survival Spec. Dropped an explosive trap and ice trap at the bottom of the platform stairs.
Send in my pet to engage boss, while keeping Mend Pet up 100% of the time.
Cleared both adds, and used Kill Command for pet to gain aggro.
At 85-90%~, i started attacking the boss, while keeping another Ice Trap and Explosive Trap below the platform stairs.
When P2 starts, 3 adds spawns and targets me. Disengage to move back, letting the 3 adds trigger the Ice Trap. Then use Lock and Load proc to fire 2 Explosive Shot at 2 different adds. Finally using Multi Shot(With Serpent Spread talent) to clear them. Kite the adds around if they don't die.
Continue attacking boss after adds are cleared.
P3 starts, since there are no party members to mind control, continue attacking as usual. Do remember to drop another Ice Trap and Explosive Trap at the middle of the room to prepare for P4.
P4 starts, tons of adds will spawn. Disengage to move behind the staircase leading to the bottom level, continue spamming Multi Shots to clear those adds, while kiting them to ensure they don't reach you. Feign Death if needed to drop aggro. Once the adds are cleared, just continue zerging boss to kill it.
---
Killing Shade of Arugal is easy, as long as you have Mend Pet up 100% of the time on a Tenacity pet, while kiting adds around Ice Trap and clearing them with Multi Shot. If you overaggro your pet, just Feign Death and use Kill Command for your pet to gain aggro.

Soloed as a 75 Demonology warlock.
-Use the felguard to tank
-Demon armor
-Dot up Arugal and use Health funnel to keep your felguard alive.
-Use drain life to keep yourself up
-I used felstorm and rain of fire when he summons the first adds
-I used felstorm and popped meta on the second set of adds to burn them quickly
I ended up using a healthsone and a super healing potion. I didnt pop doomguard but you can throw that in there as well. Got him on the first try.

Managed to solo him as a 75 destruction warlock, after a few failed attempts to come up with a good strategy. First, like others mentioned, stand at the top of the stairs, put your pet on passive (which for me is the Voidlord since you can get
Grimoire of Supremacy
at 75), and pick off all of the enemies one by one to build up your embers. As you are taking down the final enemy, switch your Voidlord (or VW) to assist you, because Arugal will attack you as you kill the final enemy. I also used
Twilight Ward
at the outset to handle his initial Shadow Bolt, as my Voidlord couldn't taunt him in time (was a 5,025 absorption shield for me). I hit Arugal with a couple Chaos Bolts from the embers I built up pulling his followers away, until he did his first worgen summon.
First set of three worgen were easy to take down by using
Havoc
on one, and then Immolate, Rain of Fire, Conflagrate, and Incinerate, and then using Shadowburn to finish off a surviving worgen and quickly take down the one not affected by Havoc.
I quickly hit Arugal with another Immolate and Rain of Fire simply to get my embers back up to max, as well as funneling health to my Voidlord to enable him to survive by the time Arugal's large worgen summon occurs.
When Arugal does his mass summon is when I died on my initial attempts. This time I knew it was coming and I used
Summon Infernal
, as well as
Fire & Brimstone
to get Immolate on all of the worgen before I used Rain of Fire again. Before I could be killed, I hit my
Dark Bargain
talent to survive the onslaught, and used my various heals to offset the DoT that would be put on me by the end of the 8 seconds, mixing in more AoE attacks to melt the worgens away.
If you survive the mass worgen summon, you're in the clear as you'll quickly get to 20% remaining on Arugal's life, enabling you to quickly Shadowburn him down to victory. Cast Twilight Ward again in case your pet doesn't survive the remainder of the fight, as the added absorption of Arugal's Shadow Bolts should give you enough time to finish him off on your own.
A couple important things to note: I also have
Shadowfury
, which would probably be helpful to use right after you summon in the Infernal to handle the initial damage loss. In my mad scrambles, I forgot to use it and still survived. Another very important note which I tested, make sure you have your Soulstone on, as if you die during the worgen summon and quickly resurrect yourself, Arugal will not reset and you can raise your Voidlord/walker and continue on the fight. Again, once you get rid of the worgens, finishing off Arugal will not be a problem.

Solo'd him with a level 75 Ret Paladin, no heirlooms or help.
Tough fight, when he summons a pack of worgen I was like "WHAT?" but I slowly wore them down, had to heal a lot. Pretty cool to actually have to try with a quest, usually they're just "Go here, kill that, come back, pick flowers, escort him, come back, etc" but this was a tough fight. Very nice.
As I was about to kill him, an ally hunter (77) came in and finished him off for me. I could have handled him (He was at 10%, adds were dead I was at full) but I thanked her anyways with /ty as I was Horde.
Later, I decided to help the same hunter during the Arugal fight. Her group showed up with a level 90 monk. Bad idea. Apparently no one knew he could be controlled, he wiped his entire group but I bubble'd... it was hilarious, I stayed alive and helped kill Arugal for them. Lots of fun.

Soloed him with a Level 71 Guardian Druid using Resto Affinity. With 7.3.5 scaling this becomes a really tough fight. Prepare to spend around 5 minutes to kill him.
Just do normal tanking rotations, use Swiftmend if your health is low. Drag Regrowth into an accessible place in your action bar, you will need it quite often. Keep your health at more than 50% all the time. Do not wait until the screen flashes red.
For the add phase, Thrash and Swipe are your friends, make sure you get all adds with 3 Thrashes and Swipe as often as you can. Pop your big defensive CDs at this time, you might need Survival Instincts here. Prepare for at least 3 add phases if you attempt to solo him within level range(60-80)
