This is one of the bosses in the Black Temple, which is currently being tested on the PTR's.
Looks kinda cool for a boss you don't have to do Black Temple to see him. Though you won't get his loot until you do.
There's a quest chain in SMV specially dealing with him and his release.
A Haunted History (Horde)
A Ghost in the machine (Alliance)
Sure hope thats a caster wep that he drops >P
Robe of the Shadow Council
Equip: Spell critical strike rating by 28
Equip: Dmg and healing by 73
officially the coolest weapon ever seen on any boss in my opinion
wat u think?
that sword looks so freaking cool!!, he must drop it at some point in the game
is drop of Soul Cleaver good or he drops it rarely?
yes,that sword is cool ;D
His weapon is not a sword, its a staff, download Model Viewer and look at the item/weapon tab for "Stave_blacktemple". It should be the 3rd or so of about 5 or so. It is a awesome model, great detail and craftmanship went into, too bad its not a in-game item. It would the staff to end all staffs lol.
A little reminder that is actually missing from most strategies, the pet bar will look like this:
1 Spirit Strike (melee attack, use on Teron if you are done with Constructs)
3 Spirit Lance (slowing attack)
4 Spirit Chains (AoE shackle)
5 Spirit Volley (AoE attack)
7 Spirit Shield
With this you can bind easy to access keys to those from game options as having quick access to 3, 4 and 5 is very important. Killing Constructs is fun!
Today we confirmed that hearthing while affected with Shadow of Death will spawn your constructs as soon as you leave the instance.
This is a simulator in which you can practice the part when you get the shadow of death debuff in the Teron Gorefiend fight, after 55 seconds you die and become a ghost which you can control. 4 constructs spawn and try to get to your raid & will slow+damage the raid you must stop that from happening.
Best is to aoe first (Spirit Volley) (has 15 sec CD) then aoe shackle (Spirit Chains) right after it, then tab target all 4 constructs and Spirit Lance each of them. The slowing from Spirit Lance stays on for 9secs and can be stacked up to 3 times (which causes 90% movement reduction and they'll barely move) so make sure you're Spirit Lancing each construct fast. When everything goes fine they should be dead after 2 shackles (and are on half way to the raid).
When you're done killing your pack (the simulator stops here) you should help out others with the debuff and nuke their constructs.

is it just me or do other people wish he dropped that sword hes holding
that looks ausome!
A little lore just for fun:
Teron gorefiend was once one of Gul'dan's warlocks, before Doomhammer destroyed most of Gul'dan's Shadow Council, which consisted of warlocks (and probably also some other of Gul'dan's servants). Before becoming leader of the Horde, Doomhammer also destroyed the former Horde leader, Blackhand, who was under the control of Gul'dan. Doomhammer was also about to finish Gul'dan, who had been "sleeping" during this whole slaughter, but he spared Gul'dan, who convinced Doomhammer that he would need his powers if he were to conquer Azeroth. Gul'dan promised to help the Horde by making some kind of army to add to the Horde, and he did. Teron Gorefiend, who was a former warlock and slain by Doomhammer, was raised again by Gul'dan and his ogre companion Cho'gall and had his soul put into a human corpse (who had been slain during the Horde's siege of Stormwind) with new and enhanced powers. Teron Gorefiend is a so-called Death Knight.
How he ended up in Black Temple, however, I don't know.
Noob question, but is there anything to decipher which constructs are yours versus your neighbors? or is it just that the timer is spaced that there can't really be more than one set of constructs in the same part of the field. (Unless of course they aren't tagged and bolting for the raid. O_O)
Are these abilities linked to a global cooldown?
Here's a little game for everyone to practice against the constructs ;)
Lame it would be cool to have his sword
can the ghost use spirit lance while the construct you selected behind you ?
is it just me or is any one else highly disapointed that he doesn't drop that badass 2h sword hes holding? i mean soul cleavers the %^&* but that looks coler
One thing to note about the Ghost phase. If you're using a bar mod add-on such as Bongos, you will not have your "main" bar get replaced by the Ghost bar. Instead, you will have to use your pet bar.
I countered this by employing 3 macros set up on a different, unused bar that I make visible only during the Teron encounter. The macros read as:
/cast Spirit Chains
/cast Spirit Lance
/cast Spirit Volley
You may also choose to macro Spirit Shield and Strike, however as they are not the most priority spells I feel just as safe click-casting them once my Constructs are dead. Macroing the critical spells and hot-keying them goes a long way towards cutting down your Constructs once you get hit with SoD.
One other suggestion-- start spamming Spirit Chains seconds before you die. You want to make sure that it gets cast IMMEDIATELY when you die and your Constructs spawn. Speed is everything here, the faster the Constructs get the inital lock-down the faster you can start tabbing through them to Lance them. Some people recommend doing a Volley THEN a chains, and this is fine if you're practiced enough with the Ghosts, but if not, opening with Chains is far safer. You will have ample time to drop your ghosts before they get to the raid even if you do not open with Volley.
After that it's just a matter of practice. The game linked in this thread is good, but it is nowhere near as good as practical experience.
This fight is considered the best test of a raid's DPS, as the fight allows your DPS to do nothing but attack the boss unless they get hit with Shadow of Death. Because of the nature of Gorefiend's abilities, the higher your raid's DPS the better. Recommend opening with MDs onto the tank and Bloodlusts all around when able to make sure that both initial threat is high and that damage on Teron is high from the opening, so long as no one is generating more threat than your tank, of course.
to me it seems that on the screenshot of him he is human..but in the 3D he is orc..wtf?
This is a relativley simple battle as long as the entire raid knows whats they are doing. When he casts shadow of death, you are still able to do some damage before you die. When the time is almost up, run to one of the corners. When you spawn back as a ghost, immediatley use the ice blast skill to freeze all of them. Then, just use the skill set on numbe 2 switching between mobs to kill them. It is seriously reccommended that you practice using
Be aware that you will still probably screw up your first time no matter how many times you play the game. As long as the first person to get the debuff gets his/hers down quickly. Everyone can start helping everyone else get down their mobs. Try to use soulstones or ressurections as much as possible to get people up when they die. A bad combonation of who he debuffs can easily cause a failiure. Have fun!
Lore-wise Teron Gorefiend's story can be found here
Here's the brief cap
He was a orc warlock of the shadow council, died by the hands of Doomhammer's followers, but Gul'dans assistants reanimated him into the first Death Knight. As a powerful Death Knight, he was asigned by Ner'Zhul to capture the Eye of Dalaran from the mage-city of Dalaran, his attempt failed and he fled to Shadowmoon Valley, where he committed suicide after slaying his Death Knight followers.
He looks more human-like than orcish because Gul'Dan used a human knight's body to be reanimated into Teron Gorefiend
A rogue in my raid found out that he could avoid Shadow of Death by vanishing as it was cast if he was the target. Could anyone else confirm this? It may also be possible to cancel his cast with feign death or bubble.
A small trick to increase damage on this fight:
Tank him facing the way you came in with all the melee behind him and all the range/healers in front on the stair side. This will cause him to turn and face the melee less often while casting on random raid members, reducing the number of parries, and increasing melee dps.
Also: Snake traps are *very* useful, as the snakes can be chosen as targets for his random shadow bolts instead of a raid member.
First off, a little shadow resist helps so if you have any of the Ashtongue craftable SR items, throw one or two of them on.
Here's what you do when you get Shadow of Death:
1. When the debuff is at ~20 seconds, move to the spot (back corner of the room).
Face the corner
and put your
back to the boss
3. As soon as you see them pop up, do the AoE called
(hotkey 5). You should still be facing the corner with your back to the boss.
4. Immediately after the AoE, do the Frost Nova AoE called
5. Back up a little bit so that you are between the constructs and Teron Gorefiend. Your back should STILL be facing Gorefiend.
6. Now, you first need to
Spirit Lance them at least once each
in a cycle.
This can be done by tab targeting (which should target the closest one first, if you are positioned correctly) or by clicking. I have done both and they both work. I find the best is to click them each one-by-one and press "3".
7. After they are all hit once and slowed, just start Spirit Lancing whichever one is closest to you. If another construct passes it and gets closer, switch to that one.
8. If you are Pro, when the AoE cooldown is up, use it again followed immediately by a Frost Nova (the AoE takes the slowing effects off).
9. If you do this correctly, your constructs will be dead before they even reach halfway to the raid. /flex and brag in raid chat, then use your remaining time to go help the next person with their constructs.
I know that seems like a lot to take in, but it really isn't. Here is a summary:
When you die from the debuff, move to the spot and put your
Stay between the constructs and the raid the whole time.
Do Spirit Volley (AoE) -> Spirit Chains (Frost Nova) -> Spirit Lance in that order (5, 4, 3, switch target, 3, switch target, 3...).
/script SetCVar("targetNearestDistance", 20)
/cast Spirit Lance
/script SetCVar("targetNearestDistance", 41)
Is a great macro for this fight, set with a binding close to the tab button, spamming this and tab while standing in front of the constructs works wonders. With this macro you can spam it and kill your constructs and if done well, you can still have enough time to help others.
Just so you know it. When doing him yesterday, we wiped and I got DI from a pally.
While waiting for the rest to die, he cast Shadow of Death on me although I was bubbled.
Fortunately I also had SS on me.
Is his health listed correctly? From what I've seen he has 5.8 million health not the 5 he has in the Quick Facts box.
/castsequence reset=4 Spirit Volley,Spirit Chains,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance,Spirit Lance
You can use that macro for all the spells you need to use to kill the constructs.
AoE volley (damage)
Frost Nova (freeze)
Ice Lance 2 times on Construct #1
Ice Lance 2 times on Construct #2
Ice Lance 2 times on Construct #3
Ice Lance 2 times on Construct #4
Ice Lance 1 time on Construct #1
Ice Lance 1 time on Construct #2
Ice Lance 1 time on Construct #3
Ice Lance 1 time on Construct #4
Ice Lance what ever Construct you feel should be slowed some more
Ice Lance what ever Construct you feel should be slowed some more
Macro will repeat with AoE then Frost Nova, e.g.
Here's the easiest way to do the constructs...
Basically the buttons you want to push (as stated by others above) are as follows:
5 4 3 3 3 3 3 (keep doing 3 until 5 is off cooldown, then repeat with 5 4 3 3...)
Very fun fight for most dps classes. BURN HIM DOWN!
in 3.0.2 patch this guy only got 3,5 million hp
I kinda miss his Warcraft 2 voice actor.
"STOP THAT INCESSANT
one of my Favorite bosses in BC
This boss has been nerfed like hell. With a decent 73+ raid of about 18 or so, you can burn down this boss before the ghost mobs reach your group more than once.
Turn on shadow protection to be safe and pay attention to your debuffs, but to be honest, this guy is no longer very hard in comparison to other bosses in the Temple, and with enough DPS he'll hit it in a minute or so.
lore-wise blizz screwed up with this guy. For one thing, the first death knights were orcs in human bodies, meaning if he was just another old death knight he should have a human skin, but Teron is special, as in the quest chain you do about him he posseses a draenei body, so he should have a draenei skin, but instead, he still has an orc skin
EDIT : also, he's a death knight, so he should still be serving Arthas (seeing as how he wasn't in the scarlet enclave with the rest of us, he should still be enslaved) and Arthas was almost killed by Illidan, which in my book, makes them mortal enemies! so how is he serving Illidan? a mistake IMO on blizz's part
Just tried this with a group of bored 80s. most of us are in heroic 5 man (blue/purple/emblem) gear. 7 people (tankadin, healadin, shadow priest, shaman, warrior, and rogue) got to him with only trash wipes - primarily down to the fact that we'd never been there before and we weren't careful enough about patrols.
However - at Teron, it all went to pieces. We just couldn't do enough damage to get him down before we lost too many members of the group to be "viable". Got him down to about 1.2 million on first attempt, and 900k on second - and stopped since it's getting a bit late. ;)
I think that with 8 (just 1 more DPS) it wouldn't have been that much of a problem. The issue of taking out the constructs is probably still the only real challenge, other than that it wasn't too bad.
Hope this helps anyone trying to decide what to do on a bored evening ;)
First defeated by Nihilum of Magtheridon on the 26th of May, 2007.
The Burning Legion should have the Shadow Council reclaim Teron's body, resurrect him, and have him along with a group of warlocks, necrolytes, and Nathrezim (dreadlords) assault Lich King Bolvar Fordragon. Teron Gorefiend should then become the new Lich King. Teron would look awesome in the Helm of Domination with maybe some fel-green eyes.
The Burning Legion would then have the Lich King under their grasp. This should be done in the last expansion where we have to attempt to kill Sargeras.
I wanna know... who is his voice actor? He sounds awfully familiar. =P
Just did this with a:
85 Prot Paladin (me ilevel 340)
85 Combat Rogue (avg ilevel: 355)
Not listed here but he has a 10 minute enrage timer. I had to put out a constant 4.8k dps in order to beat the enrage timer, rogue put out 12k before dying to the debuff.
Hope this helps anyone who likes to do old content in small groups!
Solo'd as a protection paladin in a mix of Ret and Prot gear. With just one person it's a stand tank and spank encounter, Death Blossom is the only mechanic still present. Meeting the 10 minute enrage is the most difficult aspect of the fight.
Soloing this fight is pretty easy these days as most abilities do not apply. All that remains is a tank and spank fight with lots of incoming damage. Teron did nearly 2500 dps to me, but if you use your cooldowns properly it is no problem at all, especialyl not after Supremus. Most of the Shadow Damage can be avoided by using Resistance Elixir and Drums of forgotten Kings.
Even the enrage timer of 10 mintues is not a problem at all, the boss died in less than 3 minutes.

One of the coolest looking bosses in Warcraft after my opinion.
"I was the first, you know. For me, the wheel of death has spun many times..."
Teron, you damn Hipster!
He really needs to drop a Polearm that looks like his weapon... God, it looks incredible.
Solo'd as 366 Protdin.
Took a little over 9 minutes, and I was sweating near the end of it. But I got through. =)
Just did it as prot in 360 ret gear.
7.8k DPS (7m40s~)
20s WOG, Holy Radiance were enough to keep me safe the whole time, but I like to play it careful and save HP/LOH/AD/GOAK.
Used Seal of Truth, Blessing of Might, STR Flask from alchemey's "Flask of Enhancement" and Grounded Plasma Shield from engineering twice. (36k~ total absorbed from it.)
He doesn't do much damage, you'll resist the shadowbolt nonsense and the other nasty mechanics don't apply to the "tank."
I wouldn't be surprised if he's perfectly easy as ret with Last Word and Selfless Healer, but I'm used to using prot like this so...
Fury warrior in troll/justice gear, extremely nasty to solo, first attempt I did with dual mending 2 handers (vastly more Mending procs per minute over 1handers, tested out on dummies, with dual 2h mending you get almost 50% more mending hps), that ended with a ~10% wipe, 40s before second enraged regen was ready.
Second attempt in prot gear and some dps pieces to reach 8% hit and 26 expertise, then stayed in def stance and kept debuffs up and stance danced to use colossus smash for extra dps, long story short barely killed him within 9minutes and 50s, 10s short from enrage. Also had 90 strength food buff, and flask of titanic strength, as well as blessing of might from pally alt parked outside for the fight.
My friend and I (hunter and rogue) duo BT every week and this fight was one of the more challenging to get a strategy for. We tried burning him down, not enough dps and one person handling the ghosts didn't work. Tried having me solo it, didn't work (apparently my pet counts as another person so he still casts the debuff). However, what we did figure out is he won't cast the debuff if he is fighting my friend and I stay in Feign Death. So now our strategy is I stay in FD and he soloes it as long as he can manage. When he can't handle the damage anymore I get my pet out and get it some threat and then we both burn CDs. It works surprisingly well and we clear it in one shot every week : ).
Was the lore ever very clear on how he got those wings?
Solo'd this a geared Demo Warlock. Took me a few tries. I had 2 nasty 2% wipes which broke my silly heart into pieces. You have to do 3.5 million damage in about 2 mins because you have a minute after he casts Shadow of Death on you to kill him.
I pre potted, had the standard Warlock macro (Meta + Chalice + Demon soul), opened up with the fel guard then soul burned summoned the Fel Hunter. My Doomguard was doing work critting for 80k with his op Doombolts. Basically your typical Metamorphosis dps rotation in a raid.
Funny thing was when I finally killed him, I had 1 second left on the debuff and it still went off.

How to wipe from lols (the Gorefiend edition):
See your orc Blood DK tank /yelling "HAS-BEEN" after Teron does his intro.
Man He needs to drop that Staff, Pole-arm What ever it is. Im kinda shockd as often Certain Boss's (Usely a big type of 1 like end boss's or 1s with history) drop There weapon For Gameplay prepossess. Like Strormrage Can Drop his Weapons so what Not Him? Any how even as 85 this guy is a tricky fight We had some truble with hm on my Mage As 1 member has to Control the fight as a Ghost an He does Quite a Bit Of fearing, Took some time but we Did get him down. I think there was me an 2-3 others.
We duo this as an item level 371 Blood Death Knight, 390 Elemental Shaman.
With 2 level 85's this fight is pretty simple as long as you have the DPS for it. He will cast "Shadow of Death" on any play EXCEPT whoever is tanking him, which kills them after 55 seconds and turn them into a ghost. When this happens it will spawn several "shadow constructs" that can only be killed by a ghost player. Other than that his damage isn't too bad and you're only real concern will be beating his enrage timer.
Full video of the fight :
Is his weapon availible in-game?
Quite possibly the easiest boss to solo for a feral druid. You literally sit in front of him and hit him for about 2 minutes. My health never dropped below 99%. Not tank spec'd, just dps in bear form.
Mages that are trying to solo this boss: Do not use Mirror Image! This makes you get the debuff that kills you after a minute!
No pet = No wipe, REMEMBER this !
Teron Gorefiend is similar to an earlier boss in the instance,
, in that if you have a pet or minion out, you'll make things very difficult on yourself and possibly (likely) wipe. Ditch your pet or minion and enjoy an easy solo.
I dont know if they have changed this fight at all recently, but i just killed him with a 90 bm hunter. I started with my pet out and burned all cds, once they had all be useup i dimissed my pet and than kited him around for a bit. once he hit 20% i resummoned my pet and burned him down the rest of the way
dont need to dismiss your pet. same as fighting High Warlord Naj'entusas, as long as you turn off your pet taunt and you have the aggro. you wont get wiped.
Note to mages that are soloing him. dont cast mirror images, it will cause you to most likely get the "Shadow of Death"
if you are a monk and call xuen dose that count as a second person?
Well I'm not sure what happened recently, but for some reason I am unable to solo this guy with my WW Monk but could solo him with my Prot Warrior. My dps is about 2 1/2 times better on my Monk, but I die. It's very odd as this was a pretty straight forward fight on my warrior.
Just killed him as an 87 Destruction warlock, really not that hard, had my imp out for added damage, used some healthstones, lolcoil, and ember tap and overall was a very easy fight, the first boss was much harder
Soloed this with my 85 blood DK in 417 ilevel gear including Jade Forest greens and auction house blues.
The fight is just a tank and spank. If you have a pet or summon any temporary pets make sure you maintain aggro or he will cast
Shadow of Death
on you and cause a wipe.
Here's the video:
For any Priest who may be interested to know - This guy is pretty easy. Keep shield up and burn. Easy. 491 Shadowpriest.
So i attempted to solo this on my holy pally killed warlord, supremus, then shade...but for some reason the door the gorefiends room isnt open
His aggro quote is from God in the Bible, "Vengeance is mine!".
People have been talking about how, when solo fighting him and you have a second, targetable, combat pet or minion or whatever out, to make sure you keep aggro or else he will cast "Shadow of Death" on you, starting a 55 second countdown timer until you blow up and die.
In other words, if you're a hunter, from what I've read and now understand is that if your pet keeps aggro the whole time, or if you keep aggro the whole time, the buff won't be cast on you. But if threat is transferred, it is cast on you, being the only actual player in the encounter since you're soloing him. Advice from people is just simply don't have your pet out.
Well, I went back to farm some Ashtongue Deathsworn rep last week and I proceeded to fight Gorefiend without any prior knowledge on how the fight worked, just assuming it was a tank n' spank with me being at level 90 with a 510 gear average. I killed him just fine and only after studying the combat log noticed that in the first few seconds of the fight, I pulled aggro from my bear and the "Shadow of Death" was cast on me. It wasn't an issue because he was dead about 20 seconds before the countdown hit 0.
So unless you're having problems getting him down in under 50 seconds, you'd probably never even know the debuff was cast on you. Don't worry about it if you're 90 and do decent damage.
He was the first you know.
Teron's weapon model is amazing. Anyone know if that's available in the game anywhere? Seems like such a wasted piece of art if it's not...
Huge update to his model (

Why are all the BC raids so horribly unfriendly to mages trying to solo them? I've had no problem doing Tempest Keep, Black Temple, and Sunwell on my Paladin and Shaman but on my mage with similar gear, everything is next to impossible to do without dying several times first. Constantly have to get rid of my pet and not use Mirror Image, which are two of the main reasons I'm normally even able to solo anything in the first place. Kind of ridiculous to keep the instant kill mechanics these days since most people solo them anyway. Why put classes that need pets etc. at such a huge disadvantage? I've never been so frustrated with this game as I have been the last couple days trying to solo Tier 4/5 and other BC raids for transmog. It's bad enough that they screwed over mages with no cool looking transmog to begin with. But to obtain the only decent set, I have to make 20 runbacks and take 10 minutes killing each boss, while on my other characters I can breeze through. Come on man.
Does anyone know if the weapon he carries is obtainable in-game for X-mog?

I think the view 3-d model viewer is wrong, or can somebody tell me what's up with that?
"It's like any kid these days can become a Death Knight! They run around on their deathchargers casting fancy schmancy blood and frost magic. Every time I run this and get to Gorefiend, I can't help but wish I could jump off his terrace when I was done.
Nerf heavily for timewalking, luckily I got the first vehicle phase but even then the next two people didnt even kill one. Something has been heavily nerfed. So GL not as hard as I thought it would be.
