I am new to wowhead so I am unsure of the procedure for posting mob item drops. I have been attacking Mangeclaw to find the Mechanical Squirrel Schematic and he dropped an item not currently listed. The Journeyman's Stave is a useful piece of equipment for lower level characters and if anyone is able to add this to Mangeclaw's drop list I am sure the information would be useful.
Good luck

This guy is awesome! I know he may spec the same as other bears but between looks and his tanking ability the Mangeclaw is a lot of fun to keep in the stable. He will be part of the family for a while. The map showed right where he is, east of Ironforge, to the left of the path between two ridges. There was a wolf or two in front of him, pick them off one at a time and then go after the Mangeclaw, it took me two times because I was not careful the first time but he was not much of a problem the second time around. Enjoy this power house.

Actually, you don't have to run away. As soon as Mangeclaw does the interrupting spell - retame it again, without running etc.

Mangeclaw's attack which interrupts taming , he at least only does it once per battle. so first you let him do that to you then you start taming Mangeclaw
EDIT: Make sure you have a Minor Healing Potion or a healing potion of any kind

Just tamed this fellow today, with my lv11 hunter (he's on an RP-PvP server, decided hunter-ez-mode would be a good way to sample the PvP servers). It only took me one try.
He does have an interrupt, but he doesn't always use it, though he did against me. Here was my strategy:
1) Cleaned out the area.
2) Opened with Concussive Shot, started taming.
3) Got interrupted about mid-way through, strafed, Concussive Shot again, tamed.
The
Lunar Fortune
buff available right now helps. I didn't need it, but the 250 extra HP at this level was a nice buffer for what might have been a longer tame.

The important thing to remember when you want to tame Mangeclaw is he does, in fact, only use his swipe once per fight, or that it has a wicked long cooldown on it. The easiest way to tame him, I found, is to use your pet that you tamed at 10. I had a boar and it was perfect for this with its high health and armor. Just send your pet in to attack Mangeclaw alone. Don't attack the bear in any other way. Watch carefully for when the bear uses Swipe, once he does, quickly abandon your pet (yes, you can do it in the middle of a fight) and begin to tame beat. I used this method and got Mangeclaw on the first try.
Oh, and he has a crazy short respawn period, so if you fail and have to kill him or someone kills/tames him before you, don't worry.

For the begginer hunters yout there, lay a frost trap and he won't interrupt anything ^_^

when you say frost trap i think you mean freezing trap... and oh yeah, hunters don't have freezing trap until level 20. most hunters taming him are not 20 yet. but if you did mean frost trap, one would have to wait until level 28 to tame him. Think before you post.

Note that taming a beast will reduce your armor by 100%.
So those Snow Leopards walking around? They'll have to go.

The reason this is such fast spawn is because it is a quest spawn. I have done the kill him quest like 16 times with various alts. At least once someone killed the guy when I was healing up. All I did was abandon and reaccpet the quest. And pop he was there again. Another thing you can do is if you have a higher hunter friend ask them to help you tame him, all they have to do is lay down a ice trap. Doing that will make him unable to attack you and use that swipe. Otherwise cool looking pet, can't wait to get on new hunter.

For my 2 cents i redirect you to a little
Fairy dust
still clear the leopards though :)
Just farm the dust on your main from the mobs in westfall and use it on him :) useable tactic by both factions

Just tamed Mangeclaw as a lv 50 horde hunter killed all the guards then tamed him and hes the best tanking pet yet other than the rare bears GO Mangclaw and GO HORDE!

Well, cool little side feature I just discovered (new to playing a hunter, so, forgive me if I am sounding stupid). Mange is level 11, but, once I tamed him as a 28 hunter he popped up to level 23. Awesome to not have to grind through all those exp levels.
The swipe is only an issue for those who are trying to tame him at the appropriate level; yes, he hit me with the swipe but, hitting tame again got him no problem and of course the health bar was barely scratched.
Beautiful bear, and rather unique at lower levels since he's just about the only white bear until winterspring. I have yet to see another hunter with him on my server... Not hard to get but I don't think a lot of people know about him anymore.
My tank forever I believe... maybe add a gorilla to the stable once I'm at the right level.

Level 11 Dwarf Hunter. Got him on the first try. No tricks, no pots, no help. Just cast Tame and when he swipes, cast it again. I finished taming him with about 8% health left.

So an interesting find:
Mangeclaw is a she. While questing in wetlands with her I was being attacked by the undead sailors on the boats north of Menethil and was getting the curse on me that turns me undead. Amusingly enough, so did my bear. With one difference: my bear showed as a female undead every time she was shifted! I tried being changed with multiple toons, races, and genders, and all of them matched their gender for the undead skin. So apparently the internal gender for Mangeclaw is female.

I just tamed this pet by using Concussive Shot and then a Severed Voodoo Claw (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=5457
) which is an item you get from a quest back in Dolanaar (
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=488
). Level 11 Night Elf Hunter, well over half of my HP left by the time I was finished. :D

i just got this guy today on my lvl 11 dwarf. gave me some trouble tho. i got him once by my self but i messed up and only dismissed my previous pet instead of abandoning/stabling it. after that i kept die-ing so i got a shaman friend to place a stone-skin totem near me to get my armor up (since taming takes %100 armor that kept me nice and healthy) and i got him the second time. she healed me the first time tho and she aggroed him (she was 22) cutting off the taming. but now i have him and i think that this is the start of a beautiful friendship :D
(also because there was no one else around to do the quest to kill him i now have the exact same bear that killed me roughly 5 times XD)

I just helped with a tame on my 80 druid, I'd just gone to show the guy where to find him and initially left him to it, however he got hit with the knock-back so I used Hibernate to cc the bear while he got distance and started again. Taming didn't break hibernate, so this is an excellent way to tame all sorts of awkward beasts if you can find a druid!

I tamed this bear today. It's rly a nice tank and looks cool ;)
On the way to Mangeclaw I cleared the way from snow leaopards, and since my hunter is a skinner, it was a nice lvl up for the profession :D
I used a Concussive Shot and started taming it, but he swiped, so I started all over again and tamed him in time before my hp went down. Heirloom chest with +50hp ench ftw :>
Gl in taming this nice bear -)

I got him as a level 11 dwarf today. The advice given here worked well, and I pulled it off on the third try.
One difference I noticed was that on the first and second attempts he swiped me twice. So perhaps Blizzard put some changes in?

As a nooby tauren, I ran from Mulgore to Orgrimmar, took the zeppelin to the Undercity, and kept running until I reached Dun Morogh. Guards killed me many, many times - I banked all my gear for fear of item damage, so I had literally no protection. Eventually, after many respawns, I made it to Mangeclaw's location, only to realize I was level 10 and not 11 - I could not tame him. Undaunted, I gorily punched my way through rabbits, snow leopards and boars before I reached the level of 11 - and as soon as I did, I punched my way further, defeating Mangeclaw's two guards and taming him successfully.
At level 63, he is still my main pet. Amazing tank, great looks, great stats, great memories. I don't think I'll ever replace him.

hey, im now leveling my second hunter, just for abit of fun, and this pet really bugged me, i just tamed him with alot of hassel though :P, as i am a troll i took the zeplin to undercity and then walked along way, dieing many times and ended up with all my gear red. When i found him i was over the moon, i killed all the snow leopards around him and the two guarding him, abandoned my raptor and clicked tame beast.. and it didnt work, i clicked again and again but nothing, then i realised he was level 11 and i was level 10, i farmed off of the lepoards and boars around dun morgh furiously untill i finally reached level 11 and i got him, he is probably my faveroute pet that isnt a spirit beast and he was really worth the effort, i would suggest taming him :)

Relatively simplified method for horde hunters to get him if Gnomer is on your lfd list. Group for Gnomeregan in lfd, which is a 20's level instance roughly. Die in the instance. You're at the instance graveyard. Leave party. Take a spirit rez. You're in the train station for Gnomer in Dun Morough. Make your way to the lift. It's twisty but stay to your right, make a hard right then a left. Can't go any other way after the hard right. Lot's of npc's but they don't aggro. Find the lift. Go up. Go to the tunnel entrance and you'll get killed instantly by the elites. (All this isn't as hard as it sounds if you just stay to your right. I just stumbled my way through it.)
You rez at the gv in Karanos. Look around before you take another spirit rez. There is a flight master next to the gv and he'll kill you instantly if you go that way. Don't go through town. Directly north of the gv is a little pass through the hills. This is directly behind you and will get you to the road you want. There is only one lowbie guard patrolling, so take your rez when he's away from you. Go north, stick to the hills on your right. You'll soon come to a road. This is the long road east that shows on the Dun Morough map. It takes you straight out to Mangeclaw. He's right past the road junction for Loch Modan. If you do this in your 20's, all the npc's and players are lower than you, unless you're unlucky. So Good Luck!

I didn't tame him because I just tamed a snow leopard, so I just started shooting at him, but before I could fire my third shot, he did this crazy flying leap and knocked me back. Then I saw his health and my arrows had done like nothing to him, but once I got him into close combat with me and my snow leopard, he was pretty easy to beat.

I was playing as a druid, and a hunter asked me to help him tame mangeclaw by using entangling roots. (I was still new to wow at the time) When i asked him why not just tame an ordinary black bear, he told me: "Because this one is white". So I helped him out. Later, when I was playing a hunter, I went looking for mangeclaw. (This was after Cata) I had no luck finding him, so I thought he had been removed. Aperently not. Later I found another white bear nearby! His name was Bjarn, a Rare white bear. Aparently, he does not stun, so if your haveing trouble tameing mangeclaw, look for Bjarn! It will save time (Unless someone else beat you there). Good luck tameing! :D

Going to tame him now on my level 10 (soon to be level 11) night elf hunter; I just have a thing for white pets.
Edit: Got Mangeclaw the first time by using the tactic in the top post (besides AotM, since hunters don't get that anymore at this level). Now onto finding a name.. Anyone got a suggestion?

Let's face it; this mob should be called Mangleclaw.
I didn't even realise it wasn't until I tamed it, named my pet Mang
l
eclaw, waited for Mangeclaw to respawn and pitted the two against each other.

As a new lvl 11 Human hunter, I stabled my wolf in Stormwind, then flew to Dun Morogh. I tamed a snow leopard, then went to tame Mangeclaw. First time I didn't abandon my snow leopard before we killed Mangeclaw. Second time I abandoned pet, Mangeclaw stunned me, so I had to restart tame. Got him easily. However I can't seem to rename him!

If you decide to tame this mob you get a sweet surprise. He comes with a bonus ability,
rest
. This ability causes him to lie down and fall asleep for about 12 seconds.

This pet can be found as indicated on the map. For a little better perspective he is right around where the dead dwarf is found. The dwarf is laying on the ground tummy down arms and legs splayed. There might have been an old cooking fire there but it wasn't lit so it appeared to be more of a smudge on the ground. If you stand on the body you will see your bear.

) is the only white bear left with that model. :(

The coords on map are correct but the placement is low. The bear spawned for me at the little mountain just north of the map marker, he was hiding behind a tree, i used /tar Mangeclaw and found him immediately. The bear is now a quest NPC i assume for alliance and it has the standard "yellow !" in its name. It was no problem to tame at lvl 22, i simply dropped a freeze trap and started taming and it never broke the trap. The bear respawns every 60 seconds, as it is no longer rare, but just a quest NPC, when i tamed it on March 12, 2017. It is patch 7.1.5
The hardest part to tame this pet for a low level horde ( i was lvl 22) was the walk from Undercity> Silverpine> there i used my water strider to get to Arathi Highlands and down to Wetlands and then used the tunnel/cave pathways to Dunmorogh. Sure a low level dwarf guard attacked me but i out ran him, allowed my flag to drop and then went and tamed the bear, then Hearthed out.

For all of you, who want to tame this beauty in Vanilla WoW:
You have to go to the northern Gate Outpost at the Gates to Loch Modan (not to the south one). There is Pilot Hammerfoot waiting for you. He is giving you the quest "the lost Pilot". The Quest is leading you to Mangeclaw. Just go ahead and turn left to find "a Dwarven Corpse". Just a few meters behind the corpse Mangeclaw is waiting for you.
